Ray, Pete and I…read morewalked in shortly before 9 PM for some caffeine after our dinner event at Rise Pizzeria, just down the street. Maison Alyzée is a French fine pastry bakery café located on downtown Burlingame's main strip. Dedicated to providing customers with a Parisian escape through handcrafted elegant pastries and artisanal breads, the bake shoppe doubles as pâtisserie and boulangerie, priding itself on meticulous attention to detail. Upon entry, we were welcomed by a brightly lit and very clean venue. Ray and I were immediately drawn to the beautiful marble-topped white counter that encased a gorgeous variety of exquisite treats. The commitment to the elegance of French culture and modern creativity were evident in every luxurious pastry and cake on display. Maison Alyzée is an order-at-the-counter establishment, so we made our purchase with a friendly staff member at the register. Unfortunately, we were told that espresso drinks were no longer available that night since the staff had already begun cleaning the machines. Ok....I never understand businesses that start shutting down things before closing time. This just shows customers that team convenience of closing shop quickly takes precedence over customer experience, essentially omitting availability of items from the menu while they are still open. For this reason, I am docking a star. Luckily, they still had some cold brew available, so I ordered a Lavender Cold Brew with oat milk. Heads-up: Plant-based milks like almond and oat milk incur a $0.75 surcharge. I wish that the lavender was more like a simple syrup, so that the flavour was sweeter and less sharp. Maison Alyzée also offers a selection of breakfast, lunch, and brunch options. I definitely need to return to try one or two or a few of their ostentatious delights.

I visited Maison Alyzee in Burlingame on a Saturday morning, and while the pastries were good, the service felt cold and dismissive. There was no rush, yet the staff was not warm or welcoming. I asked for my raisin au pain to be warmed up, and after waiting outside for about 10 minutes with no update, I went back in to ask. The response was "It's in the oven" was delivered rudely, as though my simple question was an inconvenience. Even when a café is busy, basic courtesy and communication should not be optional. Good food deserves to be matched by good hospitality.

Last time I came it was a bit sour and I swore it off but decided to try it again and was glad I did! It was still delicious and came with a nice little piece of bread. Scarfed the whole thing down. What would have put the salad over the top would have been if they added a little bit of chopped cilantro. Yum! Hubs had a sweet cream filled bun which he enjoyed. Nice spot to chill with the hubs. The wait staff is polite although sitting outside they never checked on us or brought us more refilled water. Not sure if this is an outside thing or not. When I sat inside they constantly refilled our waters. Copenhagen is a classic place to grab a bite or a bit of coffee and pastry or dessert. It's a great place to sit and people watch. I always enjoy eating here.

"Do you want it or not!" Is all the manager would say to me…read more I ordered a pink cake with gold lettering, And definitely no roses for my wife's birthday. Instead I got this monstrosity. When I expressed this to the manager. The manager refused to even give me a decent discount on this gigantic mistake. Her options were you get a 10% discount ($ 4.00) Don't take the cake at all. (Ridiculous option considering I ordered it the night before for a morning pick up for an afternoon party.) Or come back at 3 for a replacement. Make it make sense, cake cutting is at 1pm. Hence the early pick up time. So understandably i'm angry. Mostly because the actual manager could care less and only offered up a nonsense discount or go home with nothing. Customer care clearly doesn't matter here. I only wanted a reasonable discount for this huge mistake and she absolutely refused. I hope the owners are reading this. This is my go to location for all special occasions and this manager is doing a great job of not taking care your loyal customers. Safeway is up the street with 20 dollar cakes and they get the order right. Her employee who could not follow directions is also at fault here but she seemed well insulated by the manager. I was treated like I was the problem even though the mistake was theirs. My advice to you the customer. Any custom cake you order there make sure to take the slip where the order is being jotted down and double and triple check it yourself that it is correct. Because when your special occasion cake says happy birthday instead of happy anniversary pucker up. Because the manager will just tell you tough S**t.

Service: always friendly from my experience Coffee: i've only gotten their cappuccino, but it was decent. has sufficient milk for me as someone who usually gets a latte Food: chocolate croissant was mediocre, it did my pet peeve wear. The chocolate was not really aligned well so you don't get chocolate in the majority of the bites, only a few. However, all the other pastries we got were delicious, including the speck and egg croissant bowl, passionfruit meringue, pastry, morning, bun, almond croissant, in that order.

The staff here was super friendly, efficient, and helpful from start to finish. For our to-go haul, we managed to snag one of our absolute favorites, the Everything Croissant Bowl, which always hits the spot. We also grabbed a couple of new items to try later, including the Sauerkraut Pretzel and the Passionfruit Danish cuz I'm a sucker for anything passionfruit. We opted to eat a couple of things there. The breakfast sandwich was super indulgent and enjoyable, featuring a perfectly runny egg. To drink, the Fig Leaf Latte was really nice with a subtle, distinct coco-nutty flavor profile, slightly sweetened and well balanced . Definitely want to return soon to sit down and enjoy the bright space again.

Had a nice chat with Sales Associate Rosa at the Cakery who enlightened me to this interesting tidbit. ... If you've been Following my reviews you will know... I am absolutely in love with Schubert's princess cake. This may explain why the princess cake at the Cakery has often been hailed as very similar to the one from Schubert's. Even though the Cakery has changed hands. They still offer memorably delicious cakes. I couldn't resist a slice of strawberry cream cake for lunch which was moist and light and ohh sooo good. Picked up a princess cake to enjoy with family and friends tonight. The verdict, while similar, I still prefer the Schubert's princess cake for its lightness and less sweet finish. Schubert's princess cake also has a more predominant almond flavor. Both memorably delicious. In fact, the consensus over the dinner table amongst friends and family was deeeelicious! And my cousin, who's the most important critique says I can bring the princess cake from either place over anytime! Would definitely return for either cake or to try the double chocolate cake which is Rosa's recommendation or coffee crunch cake that Mike C. recommended for next time. Suspect there will be many more times visiting the Cakery on Burlingame Avenue!

He liked it but my salmon croissant was superior. Also the CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CAKE (not the official name aha) this was so good! Dense and nutty with rich hazelnut and chocolate flavor. The food looked yummy! Ordered: Egg-tine 7/10 The black sesame seeds were good but then the sunflower seeds adding with the cheese in the center, uhh, it was ok. I took off the center - see pic of actual product with the center in tact. That made it taste better. The croissant was my fave part - crispy yet flaky and oh so soft in the middle. Jamon fromage 10/10 Basically, a ham n cheese croissant. This was delish. Unsure if you've eaten at Croissante; but, their jamon fromage isn't that great compared to this. Theirs has mayo, which completely throws off the taste for me. In any case, this was a success. Latte 3/10 Way too milky and not enough flavor.
