Love this location! Plenty of parking and seating. We always get a pizza, antipasto salad and a large meatball. The meatball is drenched in savory sauce, pizza is mouth watering and salad is to die for. Never had bad service at this location. It's also very easy to find. Our server was great and super friendly. It did get irritating when a bus boy stopped by what felt like every other minute asking us if we needed anything. Now for the food. Do not get the pizza. Unless you want just a bland crust, with a little bit of sauce and toppings and then 5000 pounds of cheese, go for it. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese but this was nothing but. Visited this location instead of the Mission Gorge one and what a mistake. the restaurant is not accommodating to its guest. Wouldn't trade spaghetti noodles for rigatoni for the kids meals. it's easier for little hands to pick up. Also, served the children huge portions on tiny plates. Went to Filippi's pizza grotto in Jamul, ordered 3 large pizza, special salad and it came with 4 large breads. When I ordered via phone I asked if it was garlic bread and she said yes. When picking the order up I checked to make sure everything was correct. I noticed that I had 4 French bread instead of garlic. I walked in and was helped by Wesley. Who told me garlic bread was $3.25 which was fine but I was trying to explain that I was told when I ordered I was getting garlic bread. I was getting a little irritated because I felt like I was trying to explain things and Westlie keep interrupting me. I asked for just the butter so I could later add it to the bread I already had and mid sentence he runs away as if something was on fire, even a few of the staff was like what's going on, I had no idea. Then he comes back with a oily container and throws it down o the table and said " Are you happy now " I said umm what's that? He said the butter are you done b*tching now. I didn't have words. I can't believe this just happened. So I ask to please speak to a manager. He walks a few steps turns around and says " Hi I'm Wesley the manager how can I help you?" I was beside myself that anyone let alone a manager would not only act like that but speak to a paying customer in such a way. But the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when I finally spoke to the owner. I left with one thing of garlic bread and a serious bad taste in my mouth of a restaurant that came highly recommended. I called the owner, no answer so I texted him. Asking for him to call me. He calls he already sounded irritated. I try to explain what happened and he proceeds to tell me nothing is FREE I explained I wasn't looking for it to be free. We hung up so he can speak to his staff. I get a call today from him and when I say I was fully shook by my experience with the owner is saying it lightly. The owner Steve proceeds to tell me "if I wasn't rude and demanding free stuff then maybe this wouldn't have happened to me" I asked so it's my fault your manager acted like that. He said "he shouldn't have acted out but if I wasn't bitching and complaining about the garlic bread it wouldn't have happened. " I'm trying to explain the situation yet again and he is screaming at me and won't let me get a word in. Phenomenal! This place is a hidden gem. Their pizzas absolutely delicious. You can tell by your first bite ( everyone knows the rules) that they are using top quality ingredients and real mozzarella. I've been going to this spot for over 20 years. Same owners and same spectacular customer service. It always takes about 25 minutes to make your pizza and it is always on time for pick up. The restaurant is large and clean and also has a beautiful outdoor patio. I love this place so much. Ordered last night a Italian sausage pizza and a half pepperoni half cheese. I always tell them to put the pepperonis on top as it makes them a little bit more crispy and flavorful. If you are close by and you want a 10 out of 10 pizza stop here. My over cooked spaghetti tastes like mush and I asked for meat sauce and I'm not sure if this is meat sauce or not. This was the worst meal from a Filippi's ever. This place doesn't even fit in with the other ones I've been to. The sign is aged it needs work and there were so many employees not working while serving me a bad meal. Originally it was my goal to visit every Filippi's restaurant as I have a family business by the Napa location. Well. That's done. I am not kidding about wanting my money back. Have some integrity. While I have never eaten in this Filippi's, I have ordered take out many times. It'a a family staple when it's pizza night and I can say it has never disappointed. The pizza itself is delicious but even the garlic cheese bread and the pasta is so good, it's to the point that I know the next day afterwards that I'm going to have to run 4 miles to make up for my indulgence. The toppings under the cheese means it's almost a surprise to find out how much they stuffed under the thick layer of cheese. It's like unwrapping a gift on Christmas that never leaves you sad that you chose to support this local establishment that ranges across San Diego. read more

BEST LOCATION OF THEM ALL - Here's why: We called the Little Italy one for reservations, and they only accepted them for a party of 15+ ... we had 11....and we knew we'd have to wait a while for a table on a Saturday night. I posted a question on Yelp 'Talk' and everyone pointed me to the Jamul spot. I had never ventured that far out and would have never guessed there was a Filippi's out there!! The Yelp users were right....this was THE best location. They are actually building a larger spot for Filippi's a few miles closer to the 94 than where it is now - should be nice. The ambiance was charming...it's out in what seems like a countryside, very cute decor (like the Little Italy location), with chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling, and semi-dim lighting. Private parking lot is huge with ample (free) spaces - unlike the downtown location. Hassle free. Staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating. Food - best of all the Filippi's, seriously. And they OD on the cheese...portions are very hearty....pizza was perfect.... Several of the other (non-Little Italy) locations just feel like "bars" with a restaurant attached...kind of cheap and sleezy? But this location felt authentic, clean, warm, and family centric. This restaurant is always generous with their toppings (lots of cheese and toppings on pizzas). I recommend the super torpedo, the special white pizza, meatball pizza, or famous fit for a king. The antipasto salad is phenomenal and comes with a variety of Italian meats and cheeses and their DELICIOUS homemade Italian dressing. The ambience is a comforting and cute italian feel. Tried this place because it was close to the rv park I was I. And had decent reviews. I found everything on I had to be average at best. I like that the spaghetti has large portions and has a lot of sauce, but the sauce was bland not much flavor. They use the same sauce, and since the sauce makes the pizza, it too was bland. I found a fly hidden in the cheese of my pizza. Thank God I found this fly, God was watching out for me. I thought this place was a 4/5 bc their pizza came out looking amazing. The ravioli and lasagna was a 3/5. How ever this place made me want to throw up after I pulled out a fly from the tip of a slice. (First bite wouldve had a fly) I saw the fly's leg sticking out, it looked odd so I pulled it out. . When I focused my eye on it and saw those wings, I wanted to throw up bc I was seconds away from enjoying the first bite. And thank goodness bc when the pizza first arrived I picked up the fly slice and all the cheese plus toppings slid right off. So I chose another slice to eat. Half way through my meal, I realized that there was a fly in the piece I first picked up. I guess it happens... flies are attracted to food, but it makes me want to throw up imagining if there was more than one fly in my food. Meal was ruined. They took off the pizza from our tab. They shouldve given us the soda for free, but I already got the fly on the house. PS I really hate flys ever since I was little when I drank from an unsupervised cup and one touched my lip. I was gagging then too. Nice try flies maybe next time. I really don't like this place, but my dad loves it, so every once and a while I will make the sacrifice and order from Filippis Jamul. The pizzas are overpriced. The cheese is super rubbery, and they put too much; I LOVE cheese, but theirs has this plastic like consistency to it, sure doesn't taste like cheese. The toppings are of poor quality as well. The salads are just iceberg lettuce, no nutritional value. Each time my dad wants to order, I cringe, it's just terrible. We just ordered from there last night, via Doordash, I ordered a medium Pepperoni Pizza and asked for it to be split (half Pepperoni/half veggie) thinking the price would be the same because meat is typically more expensive. But they sent me an email saying they added $5 to my $19 pizza order. Needless to say, we are on a quest for a new pizza joint, I'm done with Filippis. read more

We were very disappointed with our visit last night. First the large salad is really a medium, then when they brought the large which is called a special it was served on a pizza pan in a drink tray, and they wanted to charge us 1.50 for extra blue cheese dressing. The pizza came out 25 minutes later, 1/4 inch of cheese, way too much, plus a million pepperonis, one piece had 15 stacked, like they just pulled them out of the package and threw them on. Also the fettuccine was very bland. They did comp us the pizza because it was so late. Bright lights, bad decor, slow service and subpar food makes this place black listed for good. Unfortunate that this restaurant has such poor customer service. We came here at 7 pm on a Monday night and there was only one other family eating at the time and we ordered two pizzas to go. They told us that the pizzas would be ready to go in 30 minutes we paid for our pizza and headed back to our car to wait. After about 15 minutes we decided after speaking with our family that we would like to eat in looking for a more traditional dinner experience. We walked in the restaurant and explained to the "hostess" Mallory that we were going to be eating inside. She cut us off mid sentence and wanted to know how many needed to be seated. Ok I understand that this can be a bit confusing for someone with little experience and probably caught the girl off guard so we brushed that off and decided to sit down and wait for our food/ the rest of our family. After waiting another 20 minutes, we began to wondering where our food was (that we had then waited 40 minutes for) and decided to ask for some of the bread for the table that we had seen the other diners enjoying. This lead to Mallory telling us that bread was going to cost us "another 4 dollars". Which seemed strange to me considering that every other time I had eaten here I had no idea that I was paying more for "complementary bread". Twenty more minutes later (a full hour after we ordered our pizza) our "waitress" (who we only had spoken with when asking for and and delivering our drinks) brought us our pizza which was clearly burnt (probably since it had been cooking for an hour). It was at this point that we decided something with this whole experience was seriously wrong. We decided that we should be getting in touch with somebody in a managerial position to give them some insight into the experience we were having with his selected staff. After asking our waitress to speak with a manager, she promptly returned and told us that he had "stepped out" and would be with us shortly. We decided to wait since we felt this feedback was important. Shortly after that the waitress returned with our money and informed us that the pizzas were on the house and slammed our money on the table (no apologies, no asking for our feedback, no opportunity to express our experience). We figured we should double-check that the manager was on the way (he wasn't). After the manager (or the person who was claiming to be) finally appeared, this entire situation ended with the manager telling us that our feedback didn't mean anything to him or his business practices. He ended the conversation with "frankly I won't ever see you people again" and he was right, me and my family will never return to this pizza shop. By and away the worst treatment I have ever gotten at a restaurant in my life. I didn't want my food for free, I just wanted to be heard. Mom and pop pizza place. No frills but good food. Not a lover of all their menu items, but the marinara is killer and the reason I keep returning. Pizzas are a bit pricey, but huge and a large can feed a family of 4 making the value much better. The salads are also fresh and I like their Italian dressing, made in house.
