I don't even know how to rate this review. I gave it a generous 3, but you make your own opinion! I had a 2 year, 24k mile warranty for a complete transmission rebuild completed 3 years ago. Current day, 10k miles later & 3 years on the transmission, it went again. Even though the 2 year warranty expired, the low miles traveled we were able to work out a fair agreement were I pay for the cost of parts and they pay for all other cost such as labor, disposal or special fees. It took 2.5 weeks to get to the agreement. Then another 5.5 weeks of repairs only for them to tell us that the rebuilt transmission was doing the exact same thing that it was brought back in for 8 weeks ago. Another couple days and they determined what it was. And the saga continues; They sent that part out to be rebuilt. It was returned, delivered and stolen off their doorstep. They had to order & pay for another and get it installed. Here we are after 10 weeks without my truck. Truck in hand now and seems to be fine. How many stars would you have gave? read more

My 2010 Dodge Ram truck rear axle was giving up and making sounds as I drive down the street. I took it to my local Dodge dealership but they couldn't rebuilt the rear axle, because they didn't have the parts for it. Don't go here unless you want to get ripped off. I went in for a simple transmission fluid change for my 100,000 mi service on a Ford. When I came back they tried to scare me into spending $7,500 to have an exploratory removal of my transmission and we're trying to freak me out about my torque converter. They didn't even do what I asked them to do which was change the transmission fluid. Charged me $170 to do nothing. I took it to get a second opinion at the Ford dealership, they said it just needed to have its transmission fluid changed. Once they changed the transmission fluid everything was fine, no scare tactics, no trying to talk down to me like the treatment I received at Xpress. Complete and total rip-off artists, do not let them scare you get a professional opinion. read more

We had a possible major leaking issue, and after some research, the potential cost to fix was very very expensive, almost to a point where we would consider getting a new vehicle. Montana was super patient and documented our concerns, was very transparent in what he and his staff was going to do, and was incredibly prompt in keeping me up to date on the status of the vehicle. Because of his due diligence, he confirmed that there was no major major issue, but there were some things that needed to be addressed. This happened a couple years ago so hopefully their services have improved. My 2008 Dodge Ram broke down by his shop so that's why I let him service it. It took them 4 weeks to repair and 4500.00 with no loaner car. Then my son and I picked my truck with a rebuilt transmission up and drove it about 20 minutes on the freeway when my engine shut down including brakes. It was so frightening to be going about 60 and truck shuts down with NO brakes. I panicked and my son told me to take the next exit. Luckily it was a slight incline so I was able to get the truck stopped on a side street. I jump out and my truck was on fire in the engine!!!!! I started screaming help and my son ran to a house across the street. He gave my son two fire extinguishers and my son was able to put the fire out before it burnt my whole truck!!! I called the owner and told him to come get my truck. He towed it back. I called Geico my insurance guy to go talk to the owner about damages. He went and investigated it and the so called mechanic did not put the wiring back right. So the battery was replaced. And the wiring fixed. It was definitely negligence. When I picked my truck back up he had me sign a paper for the repairs. When I called his insurance adjuster she said I signed a piece of paper they said it was my fault!!!! I almost think the transmission shop is a front for something else. Because they did not know what they were doing... I never received any of my money back after being overcharged and my life and my son's life was put in serious danger!!! read more

My truck was getting harder and harder to shift, until it became miserable to drive. I did a search and found this shop and its great reviews. I took my truck in and got a diagnosis the same day. It was a cracked clutch pedal bracket. And it was much cheaper to fix than I was fearing at the outset. The fix was fast and now my truck shifts perfectly. BEWARE!!! Had a complete overhaul - torque converter, transmission rebuild in 2014 on a collector car. 3,200 miles later the torque converter blows on me two days ago. This came with a 36month 50K warranty. Being a collector vehicle - I dont drive it often - but it was less than 10% into the warranty mileage wise!! A transmission overhaul should last more than 3,000 miles!!! Tried to call them and get a voicemail box that is full. SHADY SHADY SHADY This outfit is a sham - STAY AWAY AND FIND A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP! They are not it!!!! Very disgusted. I was on my way to a car show this morning and lost all gears. Stranded on I-5 till a flatbed could come and get me. Now I get to replace the whole thing AGAIN. read more

This shop is fabulous. I was told by a very reputable Volvo repair shop that their sophisticated diagnostic equipment determined that my Volvo XC90 needed a new transmission for the shuddering of the vehicle when going uphill. That shop sent all their customers needing transmission repair to Xpress Auto Repair. After doing repeated diagnostic tests, Montana at Xpress determined that the transmission was not the problem, but instead it was a combination of the suspension, tie rods, tires and alignment. Xpress fixed the suspension and tie rods. Together with new tires and an alignment the problem was solved. From here on out, I will bring all my business to them. read more

These guys were amazing I was having trouble shifting in second and third gear in my 2007 Dodge Dakota. I took it in they did a transmission service. What was good about then is they did not flush it. These guys know what they are doing. They just drained the fluid. You don't want to flush these older model transmissions you just want to change the fluid. Because if you flush it that's when problems can arise. But they did a fantastic job and I highly recommend transmission XXXPRESS all day long. Five stars read more

The first time I went to Transmission Xpress was for help fixing the transmission. It was total serendipity how I found them. When they found out my husband had terminal cancer they delivered the car to my house when it was fixed which was way above and beyond. I forget how many days in the shop, I had rented a car. I was so pleased with them that anything they can do I have taken my car back there. Of course you may have to take your car to the dealer for certain things. I rated their service as average. Do they do good work? Yes. It's in their interest to not have you come back to fix their mistakes. Are they completely honest with you? I don't get that impression. I ordered a remanufactured transmission and didn't drop my truck off to them until confirmation the new one was delivered. The work took 2 weeks after saying this was a 2 or three day job. Here comes the added work. They wanted nearly 500 dollars for a mass air sensor. The part cost between 30 and 80 bucks has one electrical connector and two hose clamps. This located in the top of the engune bay, right next to the coolant reservoir. Easy access. Be fair. Then comes the shifter module. A bit more work as it's under the vehicle, but it needs to be programmed. Here is where I became very suspicious. They said they had to have a guy come in from out side the shop to program the module, and it had to be done a second time, buying them yet more time. Seriously, a shop that works exclusively on transmissions doesn't have a laptop with this software? Very unlikely. Now they replaced my air filter, and saved the old one to show me. They did not offer me the shifter module, so I don't know if I got a new one, or did they just reprogram the old one. There is also accounting for the core charge from my old transmission. Would I take any of my vehicles back to them? Absolutely not. Would I recommend them to any of my friends? Absolutely not. read more

Transmission Xpress was Fantastic! We we're getting told that we need to sell our car or be prepared to spend $10k on a new transmission. We spoke to Montana and told him what our issue was. Over the phone he diagnosed the problem and gave a quote for $6.5k! He did the work in two weeks and in fact found a couple other things that needed to be fixed. BUT when it came time to pay, it was only $6.1k including the additional items. 18 month/18,000 mile warranty and follow up appointment to see how everything is faring a month later and I was out the door. Wow. Go here. You can trust these guys. I live in Ballard, but they will get all my automotive work even though they are in Burien. They are worth the traveling. I had a 13 year old BMW X5 4.4i. It had a few developing issues I was afraid were beyond the worth of the car. They do diagnostic work, the price of which goes towards the repair. They did an extensive job assessing my car...and advised me against the repair. I was charged their flat $136 diagnostic fee....far less than the time I know they put into all they learned. Their review was comprehensive. Then it took me forever to figure out how to dispose of the car. All the while, it sat in their lot without them ever complaining. I cannot believe the service they provided me. I really want to callout Montana (like everyone else here on Yelp already has). The guy is fair, honest and completely service oriented. They rebuilt my transmission on my F150 a little while ago and it works better than I can remember -no fooling! Shifts a lot smoother. I work on my vehicles mostly so finding a reputable mechanic was super important. I would originally have given this a four-star review until today. I was in the week before Thanksgiving, and my transmission had to be rebuilt. It was a very long process, a lot of check-in phone calls, lasting almost three weeks (with, admittedly, Thanksgiving slowing things down). I wasn't happy about the time, but that would've been a four-star because even though circumstances weren't great, they weren't entirely in the shop's control. I noticed, after, that my car rode a little differently. Or I thought it was riding differently, my suspension just felt off. As time went on, tight turns started causing a groan from the front suspension. It began to feel like it was riding a lot differently. I finally went to my regular mechanic. When the transmission work was complete, the lower control arms were not fully bolted (about half out), which was causing the groaning sound, causing the car to ride differently (in a rather bad way), and made going over any bump feel like I hit a pothole (and speedbumps feel like I hit a swimming pool). The cost to fix this was minor, and being that I was worried I needed new shocks instead, it was somewhat welcome news. But I do find this worrisome after three weeks of work, I assume by multiple mechanics, my car was not completely checked out. It's not a small thing, I expect. My bigger concern is for other customers. I'd hate for someone to think they're crazy to think their car is riding differently just because some bolts weren't fully tightened. Montana was great, the quality of work for the "big stuff" is good, but the little stuff is important too. Edit (11 Jan 2019): I took my car in for a 30-day check-up to activate my transmission warranty, and spoke with Montana at some length. He felt very badly about my control arm issue, and compensated me for the repair I'd had done at my normal mechanic. He apologized, and the QA technician who checked my car out also apologized. I complained about a safety thing, I was heard, compensated, got an honest apology. You can't ask for better customer service. Four stars back. read more

I had my BMW X5 serviced here when it broke down and they took great care of me. They towed it, diagnosed the issue, and fixed it with a very reasonable turnaround. So I brought my Acura MDX in for a tuneup, timing belt, water pump, oil change, spark plugs, and tire rotation. I couldn't be happier. Montana was very transparent and showed me that I also needed to replace my ignition coil and so I'll be back next week. I will definitely be coming back to these guys for all of my mechanic needs. My Jeep differential spider gears went out. I contacted Transmission Xpress after reading reviews on Yelp and Google. Talked to the owner, told him the spider gears were out and he estimated $1600-2400. I told him I was supplying the parts (OEM, new Dana gears/bearings/seals for a Dana axle). The owner said to have it towed in (he didn't offer free towing, so I used my AAA). After they'd had my vehicle two days, a mechanic called and confirmed the spider gears needed replacement. He said they wouldn't warrant their work because I supplied the parts. He said he would call me Monday with a price using parts they wanted to use. Monday, a mechanic name Montana, called me and it was as talking to a petulant child. He insisted that if they don't sell the parts then no warranty - their policy. I reminded him that the owner knew that I was supplying the parts before he asked for the work and the car towed to them. Now, the mechanic with an attitude, said 'Do you want your car fixed or not?'. I said no - this is a major expense and no warranty is unacceptable. I called him back and provided a competitor and told him he must tow my car at their expense. He agreed, my car was towed and we parted ways. Silver lining ending: The axle was completely rebuilt, with my parts and with a full warranty, from Kings Transmission on 4th Ave South, in Seattle for $935 - between $665 and $1465 LESS than Transmission Xpress' estimate. King's Transmission: Rocks! Transmission Xpress: Whines. Response to owner's response: The owner is not being truthful. Fact: I spoke to him on the phone and told him that I was providing Dana/Spicer parts BEFORE he asked me to have my car towed to his shop. My cost for new Dana/Spider spider gears, carrier bearing, axle bearings and seals cost under $200, including expedited shipping. Including the actual cost of the needed part, your estimate exceeded between $400 and $1200 for the actual repair I paid. Transmission Xpress is sulking because they didn't get to make markup on parts - probably Chinese. 1 read more

I brought in a somewhat rare import transmission that, due to shipping, the gear engagement was in twilight zone. It wouldn't go into gear at all. They pulled it apart, checked the synchros, and determined that the transmission was stuck in reverse likely due to it being bumped during shipping. I briefly mentioned it was shipped. Montana is very attentive when I brought the transmission in, and he's super friendly. I had suspected the shifter forks were stuck in gear, and they confirmed it with a very reasonable rate. I've found my transmission shop; for any transmission related repairs I'm taking it here. They did a great job, and putting it back together they seemed to have resealed it well enough that I doubt it would ever leak. The shifter clicks into gear perfectly now. I've had my fair share of sketchy auto shops (I've built engines and work on cars in my free time so I can tell if something's off) and Transmission Xpress isn't one of them.
