Great little pub with well above average food, the nachos are there specialty! The staff is great, the beer selection is excellent and there are no VLTs or TVs which adds to the atmosphere. There's a good selection of Irish beer on tap and if you're into lamb burgers and hand cut fries this is the place to go. Consider it's in Sunnyside Mall where I got at least 3 x week, it's a shame I rarely get to Finbars. The daily boxty special has never been my favorite, but my husband orders it almost every time. There's an almost healthy option! Try the Grilled Maple Salmon Salad, dressing on the side. But steal some of your friends nachos. They're bad for you, but delicious goodness. Plus there's a secret kids menu. It's never written down, but the servers can rhyme it off. KD Easy Mac, 1 pc fish and chips, chicken fingers and fries, ... might be a couple other options. Second time being to Finbar's. Had the stew the first time. Thought it was meh. This trip, however, I went with two work colleagues. We called to order so we didn't have to wait once we got there. We arrived and are immediately greeted by the nice person at the door. We didn't have to reserve seating, but we got seated immediately. Food was already piping hot and ready as soon as we got there. 2 of us had the French onion soup. It was super good. One of us has been bugging the group to go there for weeks to get the soup, just because it LOOKED good. Well, not only did it look good, but it was stupidly good. Staff is always super friendly and helpful/prompt. Definitely a good little spot. As for our food, it was superb. Definitely going to go back! Big thanks from the IBM Crew. read more

I visited this today to give them a second chance. The service was very slow, my wife's salmon was very over cooked, took the staff 20 minutes to figure out how to process a gift card. Only thing good was the waitress (lovely young lady) and my haddock. Won't be going back. read more

I went here for dinner last night with my family. The service was prompt and cheerful and they were even aware of gluten intolerance and knew the menu items that would be "safe". I got the Yorkshire Pudding which came with mashed potatoes, gravy and shaved striploin. The potatoes were good but the pudding itself tasted pretty odd. I only ate two bites. The striploin had a lot of bits with slimy fat which I found gross. It also tasted reheated. My dining companions enjoyed what they had (sweet potato fries with curry mayo were awesome!) and I would go back to try the huge and yummy looking cesar salad that I saw another table enjoying. read more

Treated differently. We had a poor experience at the Bedford location today. We have been to the Portland Hills Pub many times. We were passed over many times today while waiting for a table even though there was a so called list. When seated we were ignored for almost half an hour for even a drink order. As Finbars is a pub I found this troubling. When we ordered our food arrived much later than other tables that were seated after us. Maybe just a conspiracy theory but when we were the only coloured people in the joint and we sure seemed to get treated very differently. We won't be returning to either location. Had a boo at their facebook page it would seem that there are very few coloured patrons that visit or at least that are pictured.....ever. read more

Not a bad place to go when you want to try something a little different from the usual pub food. Supposedly have had the best nachos in town for a few years now as rated by the coast. I don't have anything against this place but unless someone wants to go here to eat, it wouldn't be on my list of places to come back to again. read more

Visited Finbar's on a Sunday for brunch. Ordered the eggs benny with ham, with a side caesar. I didn't expect much, as that last time I ate there (6 years ago) the food was terrible. Sad to say, the food was no better this time. My salad was awful. No croutons, and the lettuce was turning brown. It did, however, have real bacon bits and parmesan. My eggs benny were a disappointment as well. Eggs were completely hard in the center (the server didn't ask how I wanted them, and it never occurred to me to tell her as I've never eaten them with a hard yolk, they've always been at least slightly runny). There was hardly any hollondaise, but to be fair, what there was of it was tasty. As was the ham. However, the real kicker came when my dining partner found a short brown hair under his pile of home fries (which he'd mostly eaten by then). As I have long black hair and he's a blond, it wasn't ours. Our server was mortified and took his meal off the bill. She was very apologetic, and her reaction is the only reason I'm not leaving one star. Will never eat at Finbar's again. But I might drink a beer there. read more

Just had the best spinach and artichoke dip. We have yet to find a better one. For the main I had the Lamb burger. It has to be the best burger I have ever had. The hand cut fries were crispy and soft on the inside. Just the best. My Wife had the pan fried haddock and she really enjoyed it. We both love this place and the staff is always great. Love this restaurant! As a gluten free vegan, I am super impressed with the willingness to accommodate specific dietary restrictions. There are very few pubs I can/have been able to eat at. The Bedford location has been creative in coming up with meals for me and the staff always has a 'can do' attitude. No challenge seems to big for them. Added touch...the owner responding to comment cards, talk about a community feel. Highly recommend for anyone, esp those with dietary restrictions. Love this place. read more

Review are current about the wait time. Last night around 20h00 it took 20 minutes for one appetizer and 45 minutes for the entres. But the taste was worth the wait. The bacon mac'n cheese bites and home made ketchup was really good. Not a big fan of the poutine since were from Qc but the potato crêpe with the haddock and the pepper sauce was delicious. Will go back for sure for the food!!! If I may suggest, maybe they can do something about the wait or give bread or home made chips and at least tell the servers to come back and reassured us that the order is on the way. read more

Food is excellent, service is diligent, but every beer I had was a short pour. At least an inch short...... over the course of the day that adds up to a lot of beer. Just sayin' if you advertise a 20 oz beer (for example) isn't it 'false advertising' to only pour 18oz?? When the NSLC controls the market & beer is expensive - every drop counts ! read more

First off I had the fish and chip and it was horrible on many levels (fish was not fresh, oil was dirty, fries were gross etc etc). I live in NS and and for them to get away with F&C like that is unbelievable. It was way over priced...$100 for a bad F&C two beer two glasses of wine and a club sandwich...which was mediocre at best...however the service was excellent and the beer was fresh...over priced but fresh...with that said I will not go back there for food...obviously or casual drinking as it's always 8-9 dollar beer night...tip included... read more

Went here for lunch with a large group on a Friday. Things started out ok as it looked like we had beat the lunch rush because we got there at 11:30. The menu looked really good and many of the people I went with had been there several times and said everything was really good. I opted for the mac n' cheese, which was listed as "new" and was told by the server that it was delicious. After our order was placed things went a little downhill because it took a really long time for our food to come. About an hour. Once the food arrived, I had one of those experiences where everyone else's meal looked better than mine. The mac n' cheese was pretty bland and although I ate it all, I wasn't overly impressed. It was the hunger that made me polish it off. Other people really liked their meals and the service was friendly, but slow. I liked the decor and would go back to try something else on the menu, but I won't be in any rush to do so. It seems like it's a really popular spot for lunch as on this Friday, the place was jammed. read more

I love this place. I went with friends because they take part in the weekly trivia night and the food is great - I've sampled a few different things by now and it's almost always delicious. Their customer service is a stand-out: always friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Their regular wait staff have always been outstanding (Kim stands alone as an above-and-beyond employee). I usually like the food in this place a lot but I have not been back in over a year. Today I broke down and had fish and chips..the battered deep fried kind. Frankly it was awful. The batter was mushy and the fish kind of undercooked like the whole thing had been frozen and wasn't quite thawed. Very disappointing for a place that in the past has been very good. read more
