Great vibe for large groups which they accommodate well! Fair priced drinks that are tasty but could use a revamp on food menu.

Overall we liked the experience, best waitress I had in a long time, prices are a bit high. I'm currently doing a low carb diet and it's not easy eating out. As soon a mentioned that none of that items in the menu would work for me, the waitress just asked me to tell her what I'd like in a salad and they made it as I asked which was great and it tasted good. Came here for dinner tonight. I really liked the ambience with the red lighting. Prices are reasonable and portions are decent. We came at 5pm so there wasn't a lot of people. I also liked how they had a nice selection of vegetarian options. Arancini (4.5/5) This was my favourite dish of the night. The reason why I knocked off half a star is because there was a lot of shaved cheese on top which was too overpowering, especially since I dislike cheese. The tomato dipping sauce it came with was the perfect complement ! If it came without the cheese it would be a 5/5. I highly recommend this dish. Lamb poutine (4/5) I didn't have this but my brother said that it was one of the better poutines that he's had - and he's had many poutines in his life. My parents enjoyed this as well. Fried cauliflower (3.5/5) This was decent, but I thought it lacked flavour. the cauliflower wasn't too oily, and the batter wasn't overly thick. Not bad, but I don't think I would get this again. Vegetarian moussaka (4/5) This was amazing - until you run out of the sauce on top. After that the whole thing tasted super bland and boring. If there was a lot more sauce, this dish would be a 5/5. I would recommend this dish, but maybe ask for more sauce ? This was a nice experience, but I won't be making any special trips just to go to this place because it lacked a wow factor and it's too far from where I live. However, if you live nearby I would say that this is a pretty nice place to dine out. If I'm ever in the area I would probably drop by again. read more

Great cozy Mediterranean fusion restaurant. The lamb burger, flat breads and veg. Moussaka are some of my favourites.

Went in with friends after tubing during happy hour around 5pm. The interior inside is lovely, lots of cool/funky art on the wall and big plants which I love. We ordered their Baba Ganoush, Lamb Gravy Poutine, Crispy Cauliflower and Pear Brie Flatbread which was recommended by our server. Everything was delicious and it hit the spot in all the right way. I would definitely bring my partner here, this would be a nice romantic place for dinner even with friends or family. read more

This is the best brunch spot in North Van by far. The food is amazing, the mango mimosas are heaven and the staff are the most hard working beautiful people ever. I have never felt more comfortable in any place that I have ever been. You always feel welcome and taken care of. The vibe in this cute little place makes it all that much more appealing. We went to the Finch and Barley last fall and loved it. Went again last night and we were so disappointed. We had a reservation but they couldn't find it, This happened the first time as well. Both times we got a table. Last night it seemed they just wanted to get us in and get us out. Food definitely wasn't as good as the last time. The Baba Ganoush was tasteless, last time it was spectacular. The cauliflower was so so, last time we couldn't get enough. The music was so loud you had to yell to be heard across the table. Service was not great. I was really looking forward to our night out last night but we were all very disappointed. I'm hoping it was jus an off night because I think this the Finch has so much to offer. read more

The Finch and Barley is great. Intimate and cozy, serving delicious middle eastern inspired food. The lamb koftas are outrageously good, as is the cauliflower. Really, you can't go wrong with any of the food on the menu. The only suggestion I would have is to revamp the cocktail menu. There are 8-10 signature cocktails and I think it could do with some changing up from time to time, maybe add a few seasonally inspired drink specials for variety. A true 'hidden' gem on the North Shore with a Gastown vibe. read more

My visit to this restaurant was a massive let down. My partner and I live close by and had been meaning to try this place out for a while. It looked super cute and cozy, and the food and drink menu was impressive. We were not greeted when we arrived the host/server had her back turned to us and it looked like she was playing on her phone. My partner was making some friendly banter with her as she escorted us to our table and she made a comment about how she hoped no one else came in so they could close early. After we placed our orders another server brought out our appetizer, I saw her hesitate for a moment and look at our table, and the she yelled across the restaurant asking if we needed side plates. I found both servers to be very unprofessional and unwelcoming. The food was just ok. It was lacking a lot of the big bold flavours that the menu suggested. I don't think we'll be back. read more

I have a friend that lives in North Van and I can never figure out where to meet for drinks and appies......untill NOW!!! Great little hidden gem tucked away in the industrial area! Food: Peppered Popcorn = Awesome! Mixed Olives and bread to start - good portion Gluten free, fig, goat cheese flatbread = was awesome!!!!!!!! And tacos were good! Service: Was alright. North Vancouver has terrible restaurants! It's frustrating for those of us who live here as we have less than a handful of options to visit. Finch & Barley seems like it belongs in Gastown in atmosphere (9/10) and the food is great too. We were there for dinner just as it opened at 6pm and by the time we left it was almost full. Music selection was FANTASTIC Food was very good! Lights were wayyyyy too low. It felt like my eyes relaxed when I used the bathroom and had real lights on for a minute (and no, I'm not 75). All in all a great experience; we will definitely be back on a regular basis. read more

After hearing some good things about Finch & Barley, I went there for the first time last night for my anniversary dinner. It was fantastic! The menu is a bit limited (basically burgers & flatbread for main courses), but everything was made perfectly & each dish was more delicious than the last. The special (wings & beer for $10) came right away, which was good because our main meals took quite a long time. Not to worry - they were so worth the wait! The lamb burger was spiced with something fantastic, & the fig & fennel flatbread came with a zingy aioli that I almost wanted to eat with a spoon. The place had a "no-kids" vibe, which was great for a date. & impressively, even on a Wednesday night after traditional "dinner time" when other restaurants in North Van are spending most of their time wiping tables & filling salt shakers, Finch & Barley only had one empty table. Its a hidden gem. Joined a few friends and had never heard of the place. It's in an industrial location and from the street you'd barely know its there but once the door opens, the buzz of voices and music and great energy hits you. Service was great; friendly, knowledgable and fast. Food was good and the crowd was a little upper scale and just what i was in the mood for. My friends recently got engaged, and I wanted to take them out for a sweet Saturday night celebration...except that they live in North Vancouver, which tends to lean more toward either quiet, fancy restaurants or grungy old-timer pubs. Damn it, we're in our twenties! We can't afford foie gras, and it wasn't quite a "whisky shots and sad crusty beards" kind of night. Enter Finch & Barley: Young, fresh vibe. Cool crowd of chill, laughing patrons. Food that blew our tastebuds' tiny little minds. Awesome music that gave it a very Gastown-esque feel...and that was even before veteran Vancouver DJ and co-owner Prince Sho stepped up to the turntables. Right in the middle of the restaurant. We used to watch this guy spin at Shine years ago, so it was crazy to be able to get a taste of that again! The front of house staff were friendly, professional, awesome people, one of whom was the other owner of the joint. When the owners are so engaged in the operation of their establishment, you know things are going to be done right. At our table, we had the caprese salad, the lamb gravy poutine (with pulled lamb added), the grilled saffron chicken sandwich and what I think was the lamb sandwich. It was too hard to tell, because my girl wolfed it down so fast I barely got a chance to look at it. There was a bowl of complimentary lime and black pepper popcorn to tide us over until our food arrived, which didn't take long. Everybody was impressed with their dishes, and the conversation in the car on the way home revolved around the flavors that still lingered on our tongues. Hidden gem in LoLo. Had brunch on their patio and it was amazing. In comparison to other restaurants in the area the prices are far better, food quality was exceptional and the service from Alyse was oooooutstanding. read more

What a gem! Tucked away in pseudo-industrial area, this is a pleasant surprise indeed. Located inside an heritage-style building, the brunch menu on the weekend is concise and easy with comfort foods. The giant buffalo head hanging on the wall along with a few large eclectic paintings keep you interested but comforted. Service is attentive and friendly and food arrives promptly. My chicken & waffles plate was neatly presented with waffles on the side with butter and syrup. I quite enjoyed the chicken and its crispy, slightly spicy batter is tasty with a slight twist. They also serve refillable coffee as well, the coffee was ok. They also play live music during Fridays and Saturdays! I would definitely come back for more here. read more

so this place is super cute in that fancy hipster type way. i personally l love the art and the music. again "fancy hipster" in the best possible way. the only complaint is that my boyfriend and I ordered the cab. sav. and we got the sav blac. then again we werent paying attention and we were too embarassed to say anything. still a good wine though. anyways i had the tenderloin (with the mushroom red wine reduction )he had the lamb shank and both of us didnt have for how good the food was. holy crap it was so good. definitely recommend. read more

I was searching North Van for brunch spots and I could find very little. I thought I would actually need to start my own restaurant after the lack I saw on Yelp. My brother recommended this place which didn't come up in searches for brunch. It was soooo yummy. Check out their menu. Cool interiors, great service. The french toast will give you a good cardiac arrest or post hangover cure. They also have comedy on Sunday nights. I have to go back soon! read more

I adore this place! I've come for dinner and brunch and the food is always amazing. However, what makes this gem stand out is the music. I gather the owner is also a DJ and the playlists are phenomenal. I would love to hang out there for hours... Which brings me to the only negative about Finch and Barley: the coffee!! It is undrinkable. Please please please if you could put as much love into your coffee as you do with the food and music, this place would be PERFECT. read more

This place was a little hard to find and we were a bit worried about the exterior (looked like a french bistro and was in a warehouse district), however, once we walked through the doors, we knew we would love it! It had alternative music playing, kind of a hippy / bohemian type atmosphere. We chose this place because we wanted to share some plates rather than each get one meal. We were pretty hungry so we ordered the following - yam fries, gulf tacos, mini lamb kabobs, and the braised short rib flatbread. Every single thing we had was amazing! It is hard to choose a favourite because they are all so good! We will definitely be going back there if we get the chance. read more

Tried this place fir the first time tonight. We had the: * Cauliflower - off the charts good * Lamb Meatball flatbread - wowie good * Lamb Lollipops - yummers * Baba Ganush - really good but paled in comparison with the other amazing food. The food was amazing but if I need one reason to go back it would be the cauliflower. It was the best deep fried cauliflower I have ever had. Overall it was a bit loud, however the waitress apologized as they had a very large group. The service was very good and the food came out fast especially given the place was packed. There was a huge lineup when we left. Recommend you check it out! read more

This place has a lot to offer. Their saffron chicken burger and fries are really good. They have a good spread of drinks available and sometimes have live music! However, their service is fairly unpleasant. It sometimes feels like you are imposing on the servers. We recently left the restaurant before ordering because the woman did not seem interested in serving us. Too bad because I used to recommend this place to a lot of people. read more

Great restaurant- we went on a Saturday night that wasn't very busy but definitely picked up later in the evening. We had the mixed olives appetizer which were great, a gin cocktail and bourbon cocktail to start which were also wonderful. For mains we had a burger and their slow roasted lamb shank which was the bet lamb I have ever had at a restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. We went on a whim and will be back. Four of us shared the hummus, gulf tacos, saffron chicken salad, fig fennel flatbread and grilled halloumi sandwich. They were all pretty solidly done. Tacos were a bit bland and the salad greens a little unimaginative but the chicken was well cooked and super-juicy. There are only a few desserts and the feature bread pudding that we shared, was lacking in detail (if we'd known about the cream cheese icing, we might not have ordered it) and not as good as we hoped. Drinks and cocktails are well-priced and pretty creative. I really liked my virgin pear and ginger mojito. Service was a bit of a disappointment - apparently there are no service trays so our server could only carry two glasses of water (or whatever) at a time. it looked like she was in over her head. But the food and drink were good enough for us to give it another try. read more
