Dan came by to our home in Laurel Heights to do a walk through and give us an estimate for a whole house interior paint refresh, as we are preparing to sell our home. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and his expertise came through as he walked through each room ( he was able to notice small details that would need work on the doors and trim and I appreciated his attention to detail). He understood our need for a budget and gave us an extremely competitive quote in a timely manner. My husband found Dan via Yelp to paint our nursery after I had gone into full on nesting-freak out mode (currently 8 months pregnant so you can imagine how fun that is for everyone around me ;) Dan was super responsive and provided a quote via email and said that he and his crew could tackle our project right away. Of course during the initial request, I changed my mind 400x and went from a straight forward job of just painting the walls, to one that would also include painting stripes on the ceiling (which is NOT an easy job). Dan took that and the fact that I changed my mind on paint colors 4x in stride. He adjusted his quote and was even able to complete work on a holiday. He and his crew showed up on time ready to get started. They were super professional, friendly and got straight down to work -- checking in a few times to make sure everything was how I wanted it before painting. I can't even describe how happy I am with their work. They finished same-day; there was no paint odor; they cleaned up everything including vacuuming and the room itself is just stunning. They were meticulous with every detail and I beyond love it. They were also really friendly and fun to chat with -- absolutely people you feel safe having in your home. Dan just finished painting the exterior of my small house and he and his crew showed up when they said they would and stayed on the job cheerfully all the way through to an end result way better than i ever expected. Now this may sound like what one might expect, but it turned out I had the job from hell. Dan's initial estimate was that my job would take 2 weeks (just what the other bidders said), but as soon as he started the prep work, he saw there were major problems the way all the paint began peeling back. The house is a 1920's vintage, all wood structure, and it seems someone had applied latex over oil paint at some point and the whole substrate was failing, necessitating removal of almost all the old paint for the new paint to adhere properly. When Dan first told me that the job, done properly, was going to cost almost twice as much as he thought originally (we had not yet signed the contract), i was pretty upset, but when I got home and saw what he had to do , I knew he was right. Now someone else might have done minimal preparation and slapped on a new coat of paint, which would have been a total waste of money since it would still look very rough and the new paint would begin to fail before long. I do a lot of painting myself and could see that Dan and his crew were taking the time to do a thorough and professional job, so thorough that it took him much longer to finish than even his revised estimate. That's when the want-to-please attitude and professionalism of Dan and his crew really shone. Another plus - Dan showed up promptly to do the final touch-ups too. All in all, a great experience and I'm getting lots of compliments from passers-by who have watched the progress (except from the neighbors who called the City inspector on me...which Dan handled smoothly with no bad outcomes). read more

Recently, my husband and I decided to have our apartment painted. We used Service Magic which came up with the names of four local painters. Dan, of Fine Line Painting, was one of them. Out of the four, one never called us, one never showed up at the appointment, and the other gave an offer which was lower than Dan's. There was one difference in the two offers, and that was quality. The other painter, when asked about moving furniture, basically told us that he would "paint around it". Dan was willing to move our furniture, and went "the extra mile" in determining our needs and what could be done. Dan offered to bleach and take care of any mold that was currently on the apartment. He took care of some problems where cracks had developed by our windows. He checked the type of paint previously used, and made sure the paint being used wouldn't cause any problems. In other words, before coming up with his offer Dan took the time to look over our apartment in depth, assess what the job would be, and what additional needs we would want. Dan was at our place for about 45 minutes to survey, ask questions, and come up with his estimate. The other painter, with the lower offer, made some small talk, walked through our apartment, and after 10 minutes was finished. He really didn't give us a good feeling about going with him. Maybe you would save money - but if the job is not good - is it really worth it? Dan worked on our place while we were on vacation, and we came back and it was great. He took care of moving the furniture and any extra paint was left with us for touchups etc. We were very pleased in the work that Dan did, and we would hire him again to paint our apartment. We found Dan to be very professional, and even gave him a bonus for doing such a good, quality job after it was said and finished. read more

As this is my first review on yelp, I would just like to share about my experience with Dan and Fine Line Painting. My project was not a big one, it involved taking off some old wallpaper, patching up some drywall and repainting a room. I called 4 different painters before deciding to call Fine Line who I found on Yelp. Not everyone who i called seemed to excited to take on a small project and the one's who did come to give a bid spent about 5 minutes looking at the walls and giving an outrageously high bid or one that seemed suspiciously low. Dan came to check out my project promptly and on time. He spent an ample time checking out all aspects of the room and gave breakdown of what had to be done and how long it would take. He also gave great advice on the color that would flow well with the limited lighting in my room. The price also seemed very reasonable. The room was well covered during the process. The project was completed quickly and without any unexpected delays. Throughout the pprocess i was able to talk to Dan and discuss the small things that needed adjusting. After the project was done Dan and Jeffrey cleaned up the mess and even took away the old wallpaper, which was pleasantly surprising to see them go the extra mile. After everything was done I was impressed with the quality of the work. All the small kinks of the project were fixed as discussed. I was extremly happy with the work done by Fine Line. I would like to write a short review on a wonderful job and the whole job experience we had with Dan - Fine Line Painting Co.. I had a fairly small project , the hideous job of sanding, staining and varnishing windows and front door. Dan came to do his bid, was very professional, exactly knew what he was talking about, gave us his best, very reasonable price.. Dan came every day as promised on time, did all work according to planned schedule, and out contract, carefully checked all work when it was done. Dan seems to really take pride in what he is doing, this is an admirable quality. We had this faded front door that needed staining and varnishing, the color was very hard to match, Dan called for his "color consultant" (very expensive consult for him, we were not charged any extra money) to make sure that used product choice would be optimal. After we had product suggestion, it was exactly what was needed. The whole job turned out to be done very well. The quality of work was great, very pleasant experience of dealing with Dan. Dan was recommended by my interior designer to paint my brand new, 2200 sq ft condo. The builders in their wisdom had painted the entire thing, walls and ceilings, bright yellow. Dan's estimate was very fair, so I went with the recommendation and could not have been more pleased with the work. They definitely lived up to their name. The paint job was excellent. There were no sloppy lines next to the mouldings - my pet peeve. Almost no spatters or drips, and the couple i spotted at the end of the job were quickly dispatched. There were no bare spots that needed another coat. A high quality paint job. It took quite a while, but I chalk that up to being very meticulous, as they worked very diligently the entire time. Dan was flexible as we figured out paint colors for different rooms during the job, and gave good opinions.
