Following my review, Alex R did reach out to me twice to explain why he had a last minute emergency. I understand things do happen, but not letting me know until 5 minutes before he was to arrive without any explanation or apology at that time or in the coming days after was unprofessional and he did not reach out until I posted a negative review. Also, it would have been more appreciated to kindly ask that I update my review based on our follow up rather than ask me to delete it. They did a phenomenal job on our first-floor renovation project, which included lots of detailed work: extensive trim, hidden cabinet doors, different colors in different rooms, and even a very tall, narrow room painted entirely in lime wash. We used Smart & Beyond Painting to do the interior of our 2 floor SF home... and they did not disappoint. They were punctual, comprehensive and did a very nice job. There were many details that needed to be done, especially the trim around the doorways. The workers made sure to prep the surface properly (which had layers of old, oil based paint) and did a nice job of applying the new paint. We had a few additional things that needed to be added after signing the contract (fixing the cracking paint on the exterior and patching/painting another area). They were able to do this without issue (albeit at a little more cost). Overall, they did an excellent job for a reasonable amount... would definitely use them again! read more

We hired Alex to paint entire house interior and were extremely pleased! I stopped by mid-job and they were doing it right - floors, windows, light fixtures all taped off and protected. I couldn't find a single flaw during the inspection. We ended up having Alex paint the patio deck and fence as well. Equally well done. Oh and he finished one day before the target complete date. We made the mistake of hiring a handyman to paint our house. Do NOT do that. He took 3X longer and didn't patch any holes. Only left with 12 days before our moving day, I interviewed 5 painters. I got quote from him in December last year, but due to the on and off rain, our schedule was delayed a few times. Alex pointed out to me that some of my window trims did not have flashings on the top and therefore those wood rotted. As his crews power washed and sanded down the exterior, he would also notify me what area are damaged and should be replaced. Everything I could hope for and more! Alex and his team of smiling pros did everything right... first of all his quote was super competitive and totally reasonable for the demands I had. His team did an incredible job. They removed wood hammered into the ceiling of one room that had held up foam tiles, then patched multiple holes and serious dents in walls from having a wheelchair banging into it over the years. When they painted everything I was shocked at how perfect it all looked. Then they tackled the exterior and made my old house look like a brand new place. Alex was super accommodating and reasonable. I changed my mind a few times (before it was too late) and he was able to advise and encourage me. "We can do that", "Sounds good", "No problem" is the response I got and man that is music to my ears! I didn't know what they were capable of and I can tell you there isn't much they can't handle. My duplex badly needed painting. The previous job was not well done, and much of the old paint had peeled off, and parts of the underlying wood had started to degrade. The job was not going to be easy. The building is three levels high, and one side formed the border with three different neighbors requiring access to their yards to paint that wall. That side of the building also had an external staircase that needed painting. Scaffolding would be needed. I contacted several painting companies, and a lot of them did not even bid. Fortunately, Smart and Beyond responded. Alex came to inspect the job, showed up right on time, and provided an estimate quickly. The job started on the date promised and was completed within the time frame that was quoted. Alex made all the arrangements to access my neighbors' properties. The job was very well done and included patching, priming, and multiple finish coats. A lot of patching and replacement of the wood siding and trim was needed, but all were done without any issue. Clean-up was complete on my property, and my neighbors had no complaints at all. I'm very happy that I found these folks. read more

Our house had a popcorn ceiling, and the paint in the living room started peeling off. We needed to remove the popcorn ceiling and repaint it with a smooth surface. Alex came the next day to inspect the ceiling and provided a quote. We decided to hire him, and they did a fantastic job.
