Still desperate, I started filling out credit applications to try to get approved. Meanwhile, my partner was looking up parts online. One of the main parts they claimed I needed? We found it for $287...yet they were quoting me nearly the cost of a whole new engine. Ridiculous. Thankfully, I got a second opinion. Another shop is doing the same work for a little over $1,500...a HUGE difference. And here's the kicker: they didn't charge me a dime for the diagnostic. I went in for an alternator replacement came out with car over heating. And tellijg me I needed a diagnosti for them to find the probldm to send it into warranty to see if they cover it. I picked up The car, he told me after they went for a test drive they seen it was over heating (which I didnt have before taking the car into them) he said they checked and there was no leak so they don't know what it is. when I got my car back I checked my coolant and it was empty (which it was not before i took it into them if not I wouldn't been over heating when I drove the car). only thing that makes sense is they drained my coolant so my car over heats so they can send it into my warranty to tell Them I need something I didn't need and all theyll do is put coolant back in. Previously I wrote a review on FINE Tune Auto, I received a call today from Ms. Danielle, the issue was with a reset on an oil change, she inform me that that was human error apologized for the inconvenience and will provide me with my next oil change, that's what I call dedication to a review with an unsatisfied customer, never had a problem with this company. $900 for an oil change and a new battery for my sprinter van is absurd. I was taken advantage of by these people. I understand Sprinter vans will cost a bit more but $900??? I still had more work that is needed and I did not want to give them anymore of my money. I talked to a mechanic about about how much I paid and he agreed that I indeed paid wayy too much. Everyone from Fine Tune has been knowledgeable and helpful. They have worked with my warranty company and been more successful than the dealership from which I bought my car (and warranty). They even set up the rental from my warranty which the dealership flatly would not do. The work they do is quality. Whenever there have been alternatives, they've called and given me the choices with rationales, pros, cons, and price. They are not always fast, but they are always good. I can't believe how my service turned out. I called and was very excited to have my son's car worked on. I looked around and called to see who can help me with my electrical problem for my 2004 Chevy impala. I paid to have a diagnostic done to tell me what the problem was with the taillights not working. The diagnostic showed the BCM module which was over 1000.00. I paid to have it replace and still the problem wasn't fixed. Actually, caused more problems because we had a very nice alarm and remote start installed when he got the car. After the BCM repair the alarm and remote start didn't work. It was working fine before I left the car with this company. I was devastated to have wasted so much money and trust to this company. I was told I can 569.00 for another diagnostic to look further into the problem. I was very upset because that is what I thought the first diagnostic I paid for. Instead of trying to help me fix the problem after spending so much money I just cried because I felt like I trusted them and my son's car was worse off before they serviced it. I am very upset. I hate that I had to pay my hard earned money to have my problem not solved. This has been a major setback for me. I really liked the staff but I feel like they just talked me into getting it done. I truly wouldn't recommend this company. I asked for my money to be returned or the work to be done to fix the problem but they told me they couldn't. i question the integrity of this place!! they are very friendly, while they are being shady all at the same time. I went to them for an engine light... they went thru my warranty company.. I arrived at 2: 00 pm. maybe 5 minutes earlier. the problem was a $55 part replacement... I LEFT THEM AT 3:15... and some how they managed to charge me 2 hrs labor @ $195.00 an hour????? in addition to the part. I took my car in for a routine oil change. My car began leaking oil after the oil change. I was given a sheet that said I needed a new valve cover. A guy that worked there wanted to take me out and said he could do the valve cover to avoid shop costs. He said he had 30 years experience with cars. My car began leaking oil from the filter area because they replaced the filter but left a worn gasket, then the guy didn't place the valve cover gasket on correctly so it leaked oil all under the car. IMPORTANT READ!!!! I GIVE THIS BUSINESS 0 STARS!!!! I brought my 2010 Buick Lacrosse to this p.o.b on Dec 18, 2018 because my check engine light is on and my remote starter isn't working and I wanted to fix it so I could pass the vehicle emisions test to get my vehicle sticker. When i brought my vehicle to this p.o.b I spoke with a woman named Danielle who told me that they would have to do a diagnostic and a smoke test to determine "EVERYTHING" that was wrong with my vehicle before they could give me an accurate quote. After the tests, she told me that I needed a new catalytic converter and assured me that I would be able to pass the emissions test after the work was done on my vehicle. She then priced me at $1500.00 worth of repairs. I don't have that kind of money so i applied for a credit card through their company and i was denied. I then applied for a credit increase on my credit card and I was approved so I told them to go ahead and do the work but ONLY if this is the ONLY work required because i couldn't afford anything more and I may have to sell my vehicle if it became more expensive. She assured me that this was the only work required because they did the diagnostic and the smoke test so after thinking about it I told her to go ahead and start the paperwork. On the 21st they contacted me and said my car was finished and IT WOULD NOW PASS EMISSIONS WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON I WANTED WORK DONE, TO GET AN ACCURATE INSPECTION AND QUOTE TO MAKE SURE I CAN AFFORD IT AND THEN GET THE JOB DONE! Once i picked up my vehicle they told me to drive it around for a few days before i go to emissions. This was on a Friday so that means i wouldn't be able to take it Saturday morning because that was too soon for the computer system to register and then the holidays were at the start of the week so i would have to wait until after Christmas to get my vehicle sticker. Which ultimately meant i would have to wait until my next day off of work which was that upcoming Friday the 28th. That next Friday On December 28th i noticed I was due for a oil change so i took my vehicle back to Fine tune auto and got an oil change. I informed Danielle that i was going to take my vehicle to emissions after my oil change, SO SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD HAVE THE MECHANIC CHECK TO MAKE SURE MY COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE READY TO GO!! When i returned to pick up my vehicle she gave me my keys and said I was good to go so I and drove to the emissions testing facility in Markham only to find out MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON! I then called Danielle from the emissions testing facility and informed her of the bad news. She told me to bring my vehicle back to their p.o.b and she would find out what happened. When i returned i told Danielle that i was very frustrated with this situation because i planned on driving out of town for the new year and now i will be without a vehicle which made it a very bad inconvenience for me so i asked if they had a loaner that i could borrow and they gave me a rusty little dodge neon that also shut down on me while i was using it. They then called me on new year's eve and told me that they did "ANOTHER" diagnostic and determined i needed "ANOTHER" catalytic converter!! I then asked them why they didn't tell me that in the first place when they did the initial diagnostic and test and they told me that there's no way they could of known!! But isn't that what i paid for? For them to know and to tell me whats wrong with my vehicle and to give me an accurate diagnostic and quote so I can determine if I want to get the work done or not? They could of at least told me that this could be a possibility cause had I known I WOULD OF NEVER GOTTEN THE WORK DONE!!!! And if they can't give people accurate descriptions of what's wrong with their vehicle before they work on it then THEY SHOULDN'T BE IN BUSINESS!! Then adding insult to injury by telling me they would have to give me "ANOTHER" quote. I told her no thank you and that this was unacceptable and I would not allow it and told her i would be leaving work early to pick up my vehicle before they closed for the holiday. I highly recommend TO NOT LET THIS BUSINESS WORK ON YOUR VEHICLE!!!! Good thing i paid with my credit card because i canceled the payment and is currently disputing these charges. We took our 2014 BMW in to get serviced 12/28/18 and didn't not get it back until 12 days later for a thermostat and control arms. Granted the New Year holiday was in between those days but it shouldn't have taken 12 days AT ALL! Outside of the long wait time, lack of communication and the amount of pressure they applied to get new tires and "other" work (they wanted to pad the warranty claim), they left the bolts loose on our axle which could have been tragic with my wife driving to work and dropping off our children on the opposite side of the city daily!! SUMMARY: The owner of this place is a really intelligent young guy who worked as a Volkswagen mechanic for around 8 years. The shop is certified by Volkswagen and you will be able to see the certification as soon as you walk in the office. The owner is very personable and easy to talk with. Additionally, he seems pretty tech and marketing savvy. He has also hired some of the best young mechanics in the area. The shop is clean, up to date, and organized. PROS: If you own a foreign car (Mercedes, Subaru, Volkswagen, etc) and live in the south suburbs, you may run into problems finding someone to work on your car; or some mechanics will use your foreign car as a way to learn how to work on foreign cars.This shop will not shy away from working on foreign cars, even older foreign cars and diesel engines. This shop will not turn you away. CONS: HOLD ONTO YOUR WALLET!!!!!!! This shop is really expensive. The markup on parts is roughly 3X what the part costs. I had a spring replaced, the spring cost $55 online... they quoted me something like $250. This shop upsells; radiator flushes, oil additives, steering flushes, etc. You may feel like you signed up for a timeshare champagne brunch. read more

This place is a scam DO NOT GO HERE!!!. I had my 2010 dodge caliber towed to this shop. The alternator went out completely. They quoted me.$1305 for the repairs. This cost included the alternator, pulleys, belt tensioner and AC recharge. Danyelle the service manager said that the mechanic would have to disconnect the AC lines in order to install the alternator. She also said that the pulleys were hard to move so they needed to be replaced. There was not way I was paying for $1305. My husband, who does minor mechanic work had already watched a you tube video on how to replace a alternator on my car knew that is was BS when they said that the AC line had to be disturbed. I decided to have my car towed to another shop. We informed the other mechanic shop of what I was quoted. He said that the AC condenser only have to be moved to the side without disturbing the line. In conclusion, the new shop charged me $616 for a new alternator, serpentine belt, and new battery. So, the pulleys and belt tensioner according to the mechanic was fine and the battery needed to be replaced because it would not hold a charge. I paid less than half of the cost. This shop should be ashamed of themselves. I will not recommend doing any business with unless you want to get scammed. read more

FTA recommended to me. I took my car their because my convertible top wasn't opening or closing. I was charged $95 for the diagnosis and given an estimate of $480 for a complete repair. I then went to another dealer who read their repair service recommendation and estimated repair costs, asking me why all these charges? He checked motor unit and found the problem to be a low fluid level in the convertible top motor which cost me $50 instead of their estimate of $480! They charged me $60 to visually inspect my vehicle (which I have had done already for free at a reputable repair shop prior to coming to Fine Tune), although I was expecting a front wheel alignment! There is NO way that the positive GOOGLE reviews were not written by the shop. IF you want to be scammed and conned, then this is your place to go. This place is not BBB Accredited, and they have a "D+" rating on BBB. They wanted 2x what everyone else wanted for an alternator repair, and when I asked them about it at the front desk, they brought me back away from the other customers I guess so they would not be influenced by what I was saying. On another car, they charged me almost $200 to "fix" a trans hose fitting that fell off. They didn't use fittings, they used (4) 10 cent hose clamps and added a couple quarts of fluid. I guess using actual fittings was beyond their level of "expertise". Well, that repair, which was supposed to be warrantied, flew apart on the highway. Trans fluid all over the engine and the outside of the car. They did tow it back to the shop at their expense, but then the scamming started again in earnest. They "claimed" that there must be too much pressure in the hoses, and that is why their hose clamp repair failed. I was charged almost $200 more for "better" hoses, and almost $500 in labor...to take off the front end. (For reference, I had that front end taken off, AND painted for $300 at another shop) I was also charged $40 for "shop supplies". I guess that means "rags". Since their initial repair failed, I insisted that they detail the car and get the trans fluid off. Their idea of a "detail" is someone wiping the car down with a rag. Needless to say, trans fluid is still everywhere. They took no precaution getting in and out of my car also...there were some really heavy duty scuff/dirt/scratch marks on the door threshold trim. If they messed up on something or dropped the ball, Jason (owner) has always been good to correct his wrong...but this LAST time I took my truck in would be the LAST TIME! I will never give them my business! I went in because my truck had no power (either dead battery OR alternator OR electrical problems) I'm not a mechanic, but assuming they are, I was confident they would figure it out. BOY WAS I WRONG! Nez, called me after the truck was towed and told me it was my battery and they found a battery to fix the issue (he also told me the wrong battery came, (it was $100 cheaper) - but good news, the one that came in would fit my truck and I could STILL use it). I had my doubts considering, you just can't put ANY battery in an BMW...but I trusted their expertise and told them, "okay, go ahead and replace...only if their sure my truck is going to work!" Rez assured me it would work, as long as it's programed to fit the battery...Long story short...I got my truck back and I only had it 1 hr...and it stopped on me YET AGAIN...however this time it looked as if the dashboard short circuited!!!. Mind you I spent $672 and my car still doesn't work...it's sitting in front of my house...waiting for them to fix it on Tuesday 6/26/16....I was told Jason was out of town...I'll write a better review AFTER this problem is resolved...until then I'm sticking with my opinion based on experience....and so far it sucks! read more

I went to Fine tune for a wheel alignment. They told me that they could not do the wheel alignment because my lower ball joints were bad, they had to be replaced before they could do the alignment. Come To find out that they had purposely loosen the Ball joints. I took it to a another repair shop that I trusted and they told me that the Ball joints were purposely loosened and they tighten them up and gave me and wheel alignment . Today, I learned to not trust an auto repair company that offers coupons for really cheap oil changes. We took our car to Fine Tune Auto in Lansing for an oil change. They called us and told us that someone (not them) stripped the oil pan and it needed to be replaced. They could do it for $500. They also told us the car wasn't driveable because it wouldn't hold oil because they couldn't get the plug to stay in. We wanted our "usual" place to look at it. So, we paid $58 and had it towed there. They looked at it and NOTHING was wrong! The plug was in the oil pan and no oil was leaking! In fact, there was oil in the pan! I am SO GLAD we didn't pay the $500. It looks like the coupon for this place was just the bait to reel in people they could try to scam. read more

I called this repair shop about 6 months ago to ask about repairing a tune up issue where I could only install 5 spark plugs. I had already been told I needed an engine. I took my truck in and had them review it. They told me they could repair my truck without putting an engine in. Needless to say when they were done, my truck was worst than before. More interested in upselling X, Y and Z instead of fixing your initial problem. Place basically runs a con, and I think may be a little too used to scaremongering women and old people into handing over a blank check. I called the place a few days ahead of time and talked to Caleb, who seemed like a nice enough guy. Told the guy my problem which was a check engine light having to do with the EVAP canister system/region. Made it very clear that was my problem, and what I needed looked at. So I bring the car in, Caleb says it's gonna take an hour, that hour costed a little over $50. That's fine, I understand mechanic "work" isn't cheap, and I emphasize that because little to no actual work was done to my car in that hour and a half. Instead of checking my EVAP system like we had talked about, these inept hucksters decided to do a check-up on my car. They come back to me suggesting over $2000 in additional repairs, and still didn't have any more answers to my initial problem. So I had paid them $50 to look at my car for an hour, but instead of looking at the EVAP system for an hour, they were busy checking the oil and kicking the tires, and dedicated who knows how little time to actually looking at my problem. Then, (and this is where the hustle really picks up speed) Caleb breaks the "good news" to me that the $50 I wasted will go towards the repairs. It's like saying "hey we just took $50 from you, but we'll give it back if you let us take more from you". Then Caleb starts telling me stories about how X, Y and Z that are wrong with my car can go catastrophically wrong in an attempt to scare me into spending more money with them. I took my car here to put a new bracket on my loose muffler. The only part needed was a small bracket. I was told my bill would be $150. When I said I would take my car somewhere else, I was asked to pay at least $53 for the "free inspection" my car had been given. When I contested that, the owner was willing to charge me around $70. The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Charged me $3800 dollars to help my car past emissions. A week after I got it back, my EPC light came on and my car was shaking. They charged me $165 for another repair. A week later, the entire engine stops. They offered to take it apart to see if it was their fault. They told me they were 95% sure that was the water pump. I get it towed from their shop to a Volkswagen because I did not trust them anymore with my car. They had the nerve to send my car to volkswagen with the engine completely torn apart, without telling me. Volkwagen informed me that they could not repair the car in this condition and that Fine Tune needed to put the engine back together. Towed the car back to Fine Tune who offered to put the engine back together, than they tell me that its not the water pump, but the balance shaft of the engine and that it would cost $6,000 to fix. Now I'm looking for another car a month after the initial repairs. I do not recommend ANYONE to this shop! read more
