We had such a great time on our Rail Bike tour with Finger Lakes Rail Riders! Staff were super friendly and educated about the area, and were able to help with any needs. They also provided tons of recommendations for other great businesses in the area! Our tour was 45 mins one way with a short break, and 45 min ride back. Bikes are very well maintained and have all kinds of accommodations, including a water bottle, umbrella, phone leash, adjustable seats and a basket to hold all of your belongings. They are early to drive and the views along the way are very pretty. I particularly enjoyed all of the wild flowers. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area! Really enjoyed our 2 hour trip on Finger Lakes Rail Riders today. The bikes were comfortable and well equipped (basket and saddle bag for your items - included a nice cell phone leash, a bottle of water provided too) It's 5 miles in total on an out and back railroad stretch. (restrooms available at both ends of your trip) The scenery is lovely farmland. The guide on the way out shares information on the region so the pace is slower. On the return trip you are able to bike a bit faster. We really had a fun time - thank you Finger Lakes Rail Riders. read more

Our Guide even recommended a few breweries for us to visit (and to rehydrate!) after the ride. Today we had gorgeous weather for our Rail Riders ride. The ride was very pleasant, comfortable and not too difficult. It is an enjoyable and low key activity. The old and young can participate if they have a strong partner. The ride is slightly downhill on the way out and you have to put some effort into the ride back, more uphill. The rolling farmland is lovely! Cathy was a great guide. She was funny and provided lots of interesting history about the area. read more

My wife and I are avid bikers and we saw this advertised so we called and booked a slot. We live in Las Vegas so we had to pick a date that the sun would be shining in Pen Yan...lol. Luckily we had perfect weather. Partly cloudy. Our ride started at 10:00 am sharp. We pedaled 2.5 miles south and then back. Pedaled through the beautiful countryside of NY State. Enjoyed seeing trees and green grass and water... Living in Las Vegas we don't always have this. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny too. Very enjoyable. If you want to pedal fast, I would recommend sitting on the last bike when heading out, this way you will be first on the way back. My wife and I did this and were able to pedal as fast as we could. Didn't get over 11 miles an hour. read more

What a neat way to see upstate NY! The owner gives a great tour sprinkled with humor. Bikes are super easy to pedal (anyone can do it). Kids would be most welcome, in fact, it's a perfect inter-generational activity. Mostly sunny, but some tree canopy shade as well. Bring sunscreen! Did you know there's a place in the Finger Lakes to view incredible vistas, catch sitings of nature's animals, birds, etc.? ...And you can do this all with very little effort and a lot of passion from the team at FLRR! From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with friendliness and organization of the entire process. Very easy! Relax in the shade or sun, take a restroom break, then prepare to RIDE! All the essentials are thought of: water, phone holder, basket for your items... even 2-way radios to communicate with your tour guide! This is a very organized and safe ride you'll want to repeat! Everyone will take away something different from the trip- I appreciated the educational aspect of the outbound trip as much as I appreciated the mostly silent trip back. Prepare to be immersed in nature - the grasshoppers and birds and trees surround you and perform a symphony of sight and sound unlike anything you've ever experienced! I loved everything about this experience! The tandem rail car biking was easy and comfortable! Everything was so carefully provided -- from water bottles, to a basket to store belongings, and even a special strap to secure a cell phone. The ride was beautiful and peaceful! The narrative alone is worth the price of the trip! An upstate native now living out of state, but a regular visitor to the Finger Lakes, I was so enchanted with all I learned about an area I thought I was already familiar with! This is long overdue and I apologize Kathy and the great folks who made this so fun! Turns out we were the inaugural ride much to our pleasant surprise! We really had no idea what this was going to be until we got there. I saw something online and thought it looked like something fun and different to do and it was! Four of us took advantage of a perfect mild day on Labor Day weekend and enjoyed a sweet ride with just the right amount of "tour guiding". It can be a little bit of exercise or a little bit more exercise depending on who does the peddling. Plenty of things to look at on the journey and just enough of a break before turning around and heading back. Thanks so much Kathy and the gang for a fun and memorable time! While staying in Ithaca for the week, we were searching for unique things to do in the area. We booked a 1PM rail bike and loved our ride! It's on the old Pennsylvania Railroad Elmira Branch, now owned by Finger Lakes Railway and leased to FLRR. You start out at Havens Corners (the railroad crossed the road here and was once the site of Benton station). From there you head south approximately 2.5 miles to Flat Street where the bikes are turned and you are afforded a break to use the bathroom or stretch your legs. Kathy is the owner and guide and she went above and beyond to share the history of the area and the rail lineage itself. You don't need to be athletic to do this. There is a slight downgrade going south, so it's easier going south as opposed to north. We were coasting south most of the way and pedaling north. Bikes are comfortable and roomy. They will adjust the seat based on your needs. Hopefully Kathy can open up more venues like this in the future. Hope to be back soon! read more

This was just something different to do on a pretty cloudy day here in the Finger Lakes. Turned out to be the best decision! This was an enjoyable hour, being outside, enjoying the countryside. Cade was a great guide, lots of info and history but also let us enjoy the quiet of the countryside. The ride itself was not strenuous but felt like you were getting a little exercise.
