Once I got over the confusion about two shops two doors from each other having Fiorello as their business name, I was curious about what this place was about because I've been to the other Fiorello handful of times already. Firstly they get a bonus point from me for being a small business, and they seem to bake everything in-house. They had some deli staples like subs, mac salad and pasta salad, then loaves, tin-baked breads, and small baked goods. The Florentine was meh (no crunch) and the peanut butter biscuit was good but not great, but it's their banana choc chip bread that impressed me and probably will bring me back. If you haven't stopped in for a breakfast sandwich, you are really missing out! Most days I tend to be prepared and bring breakfast to work or eat before coming in...or just skip breakfast altogether and wait it out until lunch time. Sometimes though, I get hangry in the mornings and take a few steps from my office building next door to Uncommon Grounds. I had basically given up on their breakfast sandwiches as their pre-made, frozen egg patty is just repulsive, and their prices are a bit steep. Paired with lackluster service, I am not always thrilled to order from there. But, I tend to keep it safe and get a bagel with cream cheese, since that usually hits the spot. Today, I wanted something more savory and filling...so I walked a bit further and across the street to Fiorello Bakery and Deli. I don't know why I hadn't thought to stop in sooner, as typically Italian Deli's such as theirs do have some amazing breakfast sandwiches. But, I'm so glad I finally did! Seems like they are a well kept secret in that regard, as there were a handful of people in ordering the same thing I was...sausage egg and cheese on a hard roll. There was a bit of a wait, maybe 10 minutes...which is to be expected when you're making something fresh to order. The woman at the counter was extremely pleasant and friendly, asked if I wanted salt/pepper and ketchup on the sandwich...I opted for the ketchup on the side so that I could dip each bite as I saw fit. With tax, the sandwich was $4, which i think is really reasonable considering a similar offering from across the street is about $1 more and Fiorello's puts 2 FRESH eggs on their sandwiches. I ordered from here a week ago, and enjoyed the Meatball parm sub and some side salads. I also tried one of their signature wraps, it was a turkey and american on white wrap. I was a little disappointed with the wrap, I found out that they use a lower quality mayonnaise for their sandwiches. "There is NO substitute for Hellmann's". Now the side salads I will say were the best I've had in a while, especially the macaroni salad. The macaroni salad stood out, it was one of the best I've had, and I would recommend the macaroni salad to anyone it is definitely a must have. read more

A very solid deli with good prices. Usually I pack my lunch, but on days that I've been too busy to make food, you'll find me picking up a sub at Fiorello. It's a small place with a few tables, so you can sit down. Mainly I opt to takeout and bring back to work. They have a selection of deli sandwiches, cold side dishes (potato salad, bean salad, etc) rotating hot side dishes (macaroni and cheese, lasagna, etc), and rotating soups (stuffed pepper soup, etc). I usually get the chicken salad on a 6" sub. Sometimes I add a side of their pasta salad, cup of soup, or dessert (linzer cookies, italian cookies, cannoli, brownies that are huge!). They also sell some Italian grocery items and their bread. The service is pretty quick and the people at the counter are friendly. The only downside is that there are only a few parking spots (maybe 4-5) in front of the place, so you may or may not be able to snag a spot. But usually it hasn't been an issue for me. I would eat here every day if I could. They have awesome bread and subs. But the thing you absolutely must try is the breakfast sandwiches. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they put hash browns on the sandwich if you'd like. I never thought I needed such a thing. Their cookies and desserts are also fantastic and they always keep a great selection. I've never been disappointed! I only wish they were open later than five during the week because I personally can't get there before then. The customer service is always speedy and friendly and even more so if you call in or get delivery. Just love this place! read more

We were in Albany just for a quick time, and looked on the GPS for a deli for a sandwich. We checked Yelp to find a good one and decided on Fiorello's. The place was empty (about 2pm on a Saturday) and we were helped by a younger lady. There was a man in the back area of the store. Seating is extremely limited, and the store is dated but the sandwiches were good. The sub roll wasn't as soft as the previous reviews claimed them to be, but it wasn't so hard that it wasn't good. The ends of the roll were definitely tough though. The young lady wasn't able to break a $100 bill, and offered to go try to break it but we chose to pay with a $20 instead. She wasn't able to make the change from the $20 as the register was telling her what the change was from the $100 bill. I had to ask for our $100 bill back. She seemed extremely confused by the situation. She then re-rang the whole order to get the correct change amount for the $20 bill. Working in retail, that made me cringe. The register is now off, and making change is an essential part of working on a register. We won't be back in Albany soon, but we will likely try a different deli the next time we are. read more

This was our first time trying this place and everything was excellent. My sandwich was really good. The bread was soft and light, just the right amount of Mayo. I hate how some places it's oozing out the side. My fiancé got a cannoli with his sandwich and said it was the best he has ever had. The shell was nice and crispy, not stale at all and the filling was perfect, not too sweet. We are excited to come back and some other stuff out. read more

Ordered cupcakes for my daughter's baby shower and they were terrific! So many creative flavors with different frostings! They were so incredibly tasty. Probably the best cupcakes i have ever had. The connolis here are made to order and very delicious. We tried a few other items as well and they were pretty good also. They have a small selection of various baked goods, deli meats and food. They also sell bread and I saw an advertisement for cakes though none were on display. The interior of the store looked a bit old and dated but the staff was very friendly and helpful. Fiorello has the best bacon egg and cheese sandwiches in the area. They use real ingredients and the food is fresh. I also really enjoy their baked goods, the brownies in particular. Please don't confuse this with the other Fiorellos, a few doors down (on the right when looking at the buildings. If you drive down Western Ave you will notice there are two places with almost the same name two doors down from one another. I've asked the obvious question at the counter and was told they are separate businesses. There has to be more to the story, as they offer very similar items, the layout is the same, and the taste difference can be hard to distinguish. This place makes great homemade meatball subs. The problem is they run out a lot, so you have to time your visit right.Their subs with sauce have a lot of sauce and can get quite messy, so grab extra napkins. My friend had a buffalo chicken sub and said it was also delicious - but huge. Actually, all of their large subs are huge so order accordingly. They have high quality fresh baked bread. They also offer catering. If the quality of their subs and sides is any indication then I think it is safe to assume they would be a great catering option. They also have Italian imports at decent prices. They accept credit cards with a low minimum, so it is a good place to pick up that last minute lasagna ingredient without being pressured into buying things you don't need. The staff at this location is really friendly (the other "separate business" one, not so much). The prices are good. The service is fast considering your sub is made to order. This is solely based on the one item I have tried here... The rainbow cookies! These have to be the best rainbow cookies I've ever had! Seriously! They are perfectly cakey and moist. There's that delicious almond flavor, you can actually taste the raspberry jam between the layers, perfectly enrobed in chocolate ganache. They are a tiny bit smaller than typical rainbow cookies, but they are absolutely perfect. They're cheaper than most Italian bakeries I'm used to at $11.99/lb. I get 6 cookies for around $2.50. Both times I have stopped in they are out of the tiramisu cups ($2.50). I hope someday I get to taste it. Don't be confused, they are not in any way related to the next door fiorellos imports and deli. They do however have their own deli and bakery. read more

Jenn will customize or create anything you need. I have ordered deli trays, hot food, cakes, and sandwiches numerous times. When my kid had a concussion and couldn't stand up to cook. Jenn ran food, drinks and cookies to her and took my order over the phone. They deliver to UA for the softball tailgates, dinners and meetings for the athletes & families.
