If you haven't stopped in for a breakfast sandwich, you are really missing out! Most days I tend to be prepared and bring breakfast to work or eat before coming in...or just skip breakfast altogether and wait it out until lunch time. Sometimes though, I get hangry in the mornings and take a few steps from my office building next door to Uncommon Grounds. I had basically given up on their breakfast sandwiches as their pre-made, frozen egg patty is just repulsive, and their prices are a bit steep. Paired with lackluster service, I am not always thrilled to order from there. But, I tend to keep it safe and get a bagel with cream cheese, since that usually hits the spot. Today, I wanted something more savory and filling...so I walked a bit further and across the street to Fiorello Bakery and Deli. I don't know why I hadn't thought to stop in sooner, as typically Italian Deli's such as theirs do have some amazing breakfast sandwiches. But, I'm so glad I finally did! Seems like they are a well kept secret in that regard, as there were a handful of people in ordering the same thing I was...sausage egg and cheese on a hard roll. There was a bit of a wait, maybe 10 minutes...which is to be expected when you're making something fresh to order. The woman at the counter was extremely pleasant and friendly, asked if I wanted salt/pepper and ketchup on the sandwich...I opted for the ketchup on the side so that I could dip each bite as I saw fit. With tax, the sandwich was $4, which i think is really reasonable considering a similar offering from across the street is about $1 more and Fiorello's puts 2 FRESH eggs on their sandwiches. Paired with the savory sausage, and melted cheese, this sandwich was a literal party in my mouth that I didn't want to end! I can't wait to go back...although my waistline probably can...

A very solid deli with good prices. Usually I pack my lunch, but on days that I've been too busy to make food, you'll find me picking up a sub at Fiorello. It's a small place with a few tables, so you can sit down. Mainly I opt to takeout and bring back to work. They have a selection of deli sandwiches, cold side dishes (potato salad, bean salad, etc) rotating hot side dishes (macaroni and cheese, lasagna, etc), and rotating soups (stuffed pepper soup, etc). I usually get the chicken salad on a 6" sub. Sometimes I add a side of their pasta salad, cup of soup, or dessert (linzer cookies, italian cookies, cannoli, brownies that are huge!). They also sell some Italian grocery items and their bread. The service is pretty quick and the people at the counter are friendly. The only downside is that there are only a few parking spots (maybe 4-5) in front of the place, so you may or may not be able to snag a spot. But usually it hasn't been an issue for me. I'll have to try their breakfast sandwich sometime!

I called, place the order, and I can tell it was taken by an Italian gentleman. He called back about 25 minutes later and said he was leaving. About two minutes later I see a FIAT entering the Hotel entrance and an Italian gentleman steps out, hands me my food, while wearing his cooking apron, with flower on him. Holy WOW is all I can say! Hands-down the best tomato sauce I've ever had. I order the egg plant and that was off the chain. If you live in Albany, I'm jealous, I would be here every day. If you're traveling through, I highly recommend it. Love you guys, and I'll be back.

First off I'm not sure what food people in these reviews are eating, because in my experience the Italian mix sub was very bland, the bread was dry, and the meat looked pale and weird. That ambience of the place was nostalgic which is the reason why I gave it 3 stars and not 2. The woman helping me was friendly enough but made it a point to tell me how gas prices were fine at $4.10 per gallon as long as Trump was the president, which annoyed me because it gives an indication that details don't matter here. Given the taste of the $15 small sub I paid for it definitely tracks. Be your own critic, but for me it's the history of this place and not the food has people coming back. I won't be one of them.

R Gershon's Deli (Facebook) Dear Friends of Gershon's, It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with our loyal customers, friends, staff, and extended family. I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Geshon's Deli & Caterers. Friday, January 30th, 2026, was our final day. This decision was not made lightly as Gershon's has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. After my father's untimely passing, I took over with one clear mission, to honor his legacy, keep his dream alive, and continue providing quality service and "good food for good people." For more than 60 years, Gershon's has been shaped by the people who walked through our doors. Every employee, customer, client, and friend has played a role in our story and our success. Unfortunately, rising food costs, ongoing economic challenges, the lasting effects of COVID, and the loss of my final opportunity this week have left me with no other choice. To everyone who has supported me over the past nine years, thank you. Thank you for the memories, for trusting us with your celebrations, holidays, milestones, and everyday moments. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives, in both the joyful times and the hard ones. I will miss seeing you all more than I can put into words. I am deeply grateful for the love and support you've shown me and my family over the years. I wish vou all nothina but the best. Please take care

On good days, they can serve one of the best sandwiches. Otherwise, I've had several occasions where I was left wondering why my pastrami sandwich was literally two pieces of bread with a small bit of pastrami - no dressing or anything else, and no questions asked. I like the attentiveness of the staff whenever we come here in person whether for diner in or takeaway, and their fresh pickles are wonderfully crunchy and worth looking forward to. They have some delicious pies, too, and the chocolate cream pie is our fave. I would go back, but the inconsistency over time certainly has dampened my enthusiasm that I may have once had.

No one makes it better! And the quality is consistent. A week ahead, we order either a half tray or a full tray depending on the number of guests. In either case, leftovers are welcome because it reheats beautifully. I am an Italian-American who cooks, and I say making excellent Eggplant Parm is not easy. Even if you cut the eggplant with a Slicer, it is an art to fry it without it becoming greasy because eggplant is like a sponge. Plus it is takes skill to prepare it with the right amount of cheese. Capri Eggplant Parm is perfection. It slices into well defined pieces. It pairs well with Italian Rolls or Italian bread. The Sementelli family has owned and operated Capri since 1973. It carries quality imported food products as well as deli meats, olives, bread, roll, and prepared meals in the freezer area. It is a gem tucked away on upper Broadway in Schenectady, NY.

Italian sandwiches and subs are still pretty new to me. Sure, the area is filled with delis that…read morewill make you all kinds of cold cut sandwiches to order. Perhaps I was paralyzed by all the possibilities. To make a long story short, I'm triangulating my way towards a favorite cold cut sub. At this point I know that it's not the standard "Italian Mix". I've learned to ask for the "fatty cappy" which gets you actual capicola instead of the weird spicy ham that Boar's Head makes. It's a tragedy that so many of our best delis rely on this national supplier of processed meats and cheeses. Also specifying sharp provolone is the only way to make sure you'll get a cheese on your sandwich that can stand up to the flavor of the cured meats. Nino's had both of these, and sliced them to order. Sandwiches also need to have shredded iceberg lettuce, onion, oil, and vinegar in order to cut through some of that fat. Nino's delivered on these too. And that's important because some delis have moved over to fancier leaf lettuce that just gets lost in all of that meat and cheese. I think my sandwich may also need something else, but I'm still trying to figure that out. Maybe some other meat to round out the cappy, like perhaps a prosciutto. I'm not sure. But I can't blame Nino's while I figure that out. Soon, I will learn to stop asking for those sad round reddish slices that pass for tomatoes. And thanks to Nino's for reminding me. It's a hard lesson, but an important one. The bread was good for coalescing around the sandwich and letting the fillings be the star of the show. I got mine on a roll. But I think these Italian sandwiches really require commitment. My goal was to be moderate, however this breed of sandwich seems to be a go big or go home kind of experience. Overall, Nino's feels more like a 3.5* Capital Region deli, but I'm bumping it up for being an old school holdout on this deeply commercialized strip of Central Avenue. It's a deli attached to a bread bakery. They have great old sausage making equipment, and a counter where you can stand and eat your sandwich overlooking the gridlock of cars trying to navigate an especially congested part of the local thoroughfare. Although I can imagine that not everyone would be as thoroughly charmed by the joint.
