Even though the market is small compared to large chain grocery stores, I always call them first when I am looking for an unusual ingredient. Several times they have been the only store in town that carries the item. The person looking for the item may have to look carefully for what I want, but they do and often find it. This market is iconic. Growing up in Sebastopol, we came here at least weekly. The deli sandwiches are super yummy, the produce is always fresh, the staff is friendly and helpful, tons of local items, and the meat/seafood are delicious. Mediocre and overpriced. Sebastopol is a small town, and has a Safeway, Whole Foods, community market, Fircrest market, pacific market (formerly fiesta) and if I am being honest, whole Foods and Safeway are on top, and the rest is the rest. There's certainly nothing exceptional about these places. At least Safeway and Whole Foods have higher standards, so maybe corporate is not a bad thing? read more

Have shopped here just twice when passing thru Sebastopol ( I live on the other side of Sonoma county). Store looks and feels like the love child of Community market and Oliver's. Sincere homegrown, pride of ownership place. If I lived close by this would be my market rather than Whole Paycheck or Safeway. read more

As of late this has become my new favorite grocery store in the area. I can just pop in here if I need a few things and not feel like I have to prepare myself to wage the battle that has become the Whole Foods parking lot, let alone the store itself. This store has the small town feel and its family owned, so I feel glad to support them! Inside the store is small but they pack a lot in. The aisles are narrow so you have to communicate with your fellow shoppers, and the employees but hey, that's part of the cool small town feel. When I've been in there I've heard a young employee asking an older woman about her vacation, and the guy behind me was asking about the beer I was buying- this is a place to make a connection! As far as selection you're going to find a mix of the standard American brands like Wheat Thins and Nestle and Lays but you're also going to find the alternative brands that Whole Foods carries and usually for less. For example, while looking for ingredients to make pie I didn't find an organic brown sugar and had to go with the usual C&H, but I did find an organic flour in a small package which is all I needed anyway. They had three choices of frozen pie crusts. I spent a good amount of time in the chocolate section. Just for comparison they only have two flavors of the Green & Black line and not the full line of the Endangered Species brand, but most of it. They have the Newman's Own peanut butter cups, but only dark chocolate. Interestingly, some of the things that I'm sure fly off the shelves in Whole Foods are dusty and way at the bottom here. They always put one of their specials on the sign that you can see from the highway like 99 cent avocados or 69 cent cantelopes. They have a large parking lot that has some tight corners but is never full. Great store! read more

This is an outstanding supermarket! The personal service and quality of merchandise can't be beat. It is a small family run establishment and has maintained integrity and outstanding service for many years. For a small grocery store they have a large variety of choices and a diversified climate for their customers. Their fresh produce section is one of the best in town. During this Covid time their handling of maintaining safety for their employees as well as their customers has been extremely thoughtful. Fircrest is the "Little Grocery that Could" - it has a small footprint but manages to have everything you need, at decent prices. They know their clientele and select items and brands in each category that folks want. Produce section is fresh, has an acceptable organic section and is reasonably priced (take that, Whole Foods!) My daughter ran in to get us a couple sandwiches. She always get a salami sandwich. I asked her to grab me a veggie one. I unwrapped this beast at home and it was on their own sourdough which we love! Call in to get a fresh n hot sour baguette, or just look for a warm one. Great deli, great meat dept, great produce dept. Great old-school market. Dont come in expecting a flawless establishment. No need to cry over the old bathrooms or old vibe in the store, cause thats just what it is, and thats perfect! read more

I am a frequent customer of Fircrest. I order all my holiday meats there. The butchers have gone out of their way for me a couple of times over the years. Seafood selection is very good and they usually have best prices on salmon and crab. Deli is great. Nice sandwiches and good salads. Produce section has improved over the years. It's their weakest link but I still manage to find what I need usually. Terrific beer section and cheese, too. They actually cut some of the more expensive cheeses in small pieces in case you don't want a $17 piece of brie. The cashiers and baggers are friendly. I would always rather spend my money at a local business. Safeway and Whole Foods don't need my business and they prove that time and time again. Fircrest is a small market so sometimes their selection is limited. I've been shopping here for years and will continue to do so. read more

I like Fircrest. It has pretty much everything I might need for a quick jolt to the grocery store. It's nice to have a local market so close to the house. The quality of everything is on point and they keep everything very clean. I feel sometimes local markets are lacking in that department but not here. My one complaint is that they don't always have as big a selection but that's actually to be expected since it's such a small place compared to a chain grocery store. read more

Two days ago while paying for my groceries at Fircrest Market I didn't notice that I accidently dropped a $100 bill on the floor. The next day, looking in my purse I didn't have it. I went back to Fircrest yesterday to again purchase groceries and as I was walking out the door I decided to just ask if by any chance they found it while sweeping. They had found it and returned it to me!!! (They knew it was mine because I had the receipt saying which register I had paid at and they found it on the floor by that register. I was really impressed. I usually shop gourmet grocers that I will leave unnamed. A friend said to me once as we drove by, that Firecrest was the 'economy' store in town. So I didn't stop for about 3 more months. Then, I had an appointment where I parked in Firecrests lot, so I decided to go in on a whim, without a shopping list, prepared to probably buy nothing. But low and behold, there was my favorite cheese in the world, incredible wine selection and a meat section I could buy from on par with my standards. I didn't have even 10 minutes but walked out with almost $100 worth of gourmet stuff and a new store in my Appitet black book! Moral of the story ~ Don't listen to drive by critics read more

This is my nearby neighborhood market. They have a good selection of products for the limited space. Over the last few months they have been offering fewer and fewer products for those of us who do not use meat/dairy/eggs. The vegan/vegetarian sections shrinks each week. Seems strange in such a progressive community that they would not carry more products and even less than they did 6 months ago. I'm now driving past Fircrest to find a store that carries my products. A truly wonderful mix of small-town charm, big city selection and Sebastopol flavor. Great inventory, especially the interesting and diverse wine department, and an atmosphere that just oozes pre-megachainstore nostalgia. But all this would be moot without a friendly and helpful staff, as anyone who has ever had to shop at Fiesta (down the road a piece) can tell you, and Fircrest has it to spare. I love Ann and Cynthia, who cashier with the ease and warmth of your mom's best friend. Of course, EVERYONE here is great, and you really get a sense that this isn't a "company" as much as a big extended family, where everyone has a vital stake in the success of the store. That is a BIG difference from the "employees" you encounter at other area grocery stores. I love this place, and have since I moved here three years ago. The world needs more Fircrests. read more

Pit Stop Store Without WF Prices Since we were off to a little BBQ going empty handed is out of the question, not to mention I was craving some serious sausage action. Okay, the kind that comes in a starchy bun, thank you very much. Fircrest is a small take on a smaller Whole Foods but without the costs associated with that establishment. The produce and fruit are good quality as are the meats (try the habanero sausages. hubba hubba) as well as marinated steaks and chicken ready for the grill. The shelving here reminds me of Andronico's (steel) and everything is laid out to make the most of space yet not look cluttered. To support local stores, I'd definitely stop by this place again, not to mention the awesome prices. read more

I rarely find myself in this quaint little market because its on the opposite side of town from my house. But, this market is awesome. It's locally owned so prices are higher than say Safeway. They do have tons of delicious beers, cheeses and deli food. Also the checkers here are unbelievably nice! I've never gotten a snappy or grumpy one. read more

Sebastopol has quite a few grocery stores for such a small town, but Fircrest is definitely my favorite. It has a nice small town feel, and I love seeing the owner walking around every time I go shopping. It's so much better than shopping at Whole Foods, Safeway or any other chain store (Go Local!) but it's not overpriced like the other independent markets in town. They always have a great selection of organic veggies and healthy options, the meat and cheese departments are impressive, and their selection of local wines and food is awesome. read more

My favorite grocery store in Sebastopol. When we moved here 15 years ago, from San Francisco, we worried that we would not find all the foods we had grown use to in SF. We were delighted to find that Fircrest is a small, community based store of excellent quality. I feel like I'm shopping in a small town store, but with most of the selection of a big city. The produce is almost always very fresh and they try to buy locally. The meat department is great with locally grown selections. But the thing that I like the most is the staff. I'm spoiled by the genuinely friendly and helpful staff. I can't go anywhere anymore without compairing the staff with Fircrest. No one comes close. This is small town grocery at its very best. read more

It's between a supermarket and market in size, but they make great use of the space and show really good taste in the foods and products that they stock. Fircrest reminds me of grocery stores of my childhood, a bit cramped and customers and employees greeting each other by name. All of that is good and fine but what's important is the Texas smoker that's fired up in the parking lot Friday-Sunday every week. Place your order with the smoker attendant, go inside and pay, come out and retrieve your smokey meat goodness. Only tried the tri-tip sandwich. Big, moist hunks of meat on a soft sweet french roll with garlic butter, bbq sauce on the side. This thing is a steal for under $6. A lot of places in Sebastopol had smokers out front, but this is the only one I've tried as of yet. read more

Very cool market. I visited for the first time today. Everyone was nice that worked there. I got a few items from the meat counter and journeyed around looking for picnic shwag for out hideout in a local hotel. For a small market they had a good section of everything. They carried handmade chocolates and some local desserts too. I will be going back again whenever I need somethign in the area again. read more

I live right down the street within walking distance, and I come here often. I love the warm, fuzzy neighborhood feeling that I get from the place and the people that work there. I feel like I've come to know all of the employees, and that makes each experience unique and special. They carry a nice selection of produce, dry goods, beer and wine. They also have a nice variety of asian food products. I highly recommend getting your next sandwich from their deli as they have a beautiful selection of meats and cheeses, and they offer vegetarian options as well. It's hard to find a grocery store that carries unique and delicious products, that is also reasonably priced. It's a rare gem like Fircrest that does this and takes it a step further by hiring such a warm group of people who remember you when you return. read more

We come here every so often for certain things, but do most of our grocery shopping out of town. They have some good sales here in the meat section, which we get at the spur of the moment. Unfortunately, many times they only mark the items down $1, so it's no real big deal. They used to have great beer sales here too, but not anymore. In fact, there's a beer they sell here for $14 a 6 pack that's always $9 at Trader Joe's, regular price. Their high prices are just about the same as everywhere else in town. We get some bread, tea & wine here, but that's just about it. It's a small, independent store, so it's convenient when we just need a few items, but we would never be able to afford to do all of our grocery shopping here. read more
