12/19/23 - Fire-Safe Chimney Sweeps G.T. Clift Inc. MHIC #65416 - DO NOT TRUST OR USE THIS COMPANY. Do Not Trust Fire-Safe Chimney Sweeps G.T. Clift Inc. MHIC# 65416 nor its owner Gary Clift. Fire-Safe Chimney Sweeps, G.T. Clift Inc. is wholly dishonest, does not complete the work, will not return to correct their incomplete work, and blocks your phone number(s) when you attempt to work with the owner (Gary Clift) to receive a full refund or complete the service. First Warning Sign - Will not accept Credit Cards for services. With a Credit Card, you can dispute the Charges. Fire-Safe is then required to either complete the services or have the Credit Card Company refund your payment. In my case, I am out $475 (Check). I contracted with Fire-Safe to clean my chimney on 12/7/23, only to have the smoke back up into the house an hour after they left the home. I called Fire-Safe (Gary) immediately (12/7/23), Gary stated he would call back that afternoon, but there was no call Back as of 12/18/23. I attempted to call Fire-Safe on 12/18/23, to find my phone number Blocked by Fire-Safe. Second Warning Sign - When you call the Owner 'Gary' they Block your phone number on all their lines. Blocking the call is evidenced by the call going directly to voice Mail on the first ring. Clearly, there is no expectation of a 'Return Client'. When you call from a phone number Fire-Safe has not blocked, they answer immediately or quickly return the call. Yes, this is real and occurred on 12/18/23. Gary returned a call from my work phone within one minute of calling. Gary said he would call me back the following day (12/19/23) however, Fire-Safe has now blocked my work phone and will not return the call. Third Warning Sign - I spoke to Gary on 12/18/2023, he lied to me claiming Maryland Law prohibits Chimney Sweeps from going on a roof to clean the Chimney Cap. To verify Gary's assertion of a Law or Regulation against servicing the Chimney Cap at the roof end of a Chimney, I contacted the Maryland Department of Labor (MD-DOL) that regulates Maryland Chimney Sweep Contractors to ask if this was a Maryland law or regulation? The MD-DOL Employee stated that the Chimney Sweep was not being honest, that there is no such law or regulation, and to stay away. Sadly, this advice is too late for me. If you are reading this, it is not too late for you and your wallet. As of 12/19/23, there has been no response or contact from Gary Clift or Fire-Safe, and my 2-phone numbers remain Blocked. I will call from a new phone number to inform Gary and Fire-Safe of the Maryland Home Improvement Commission Complaint, the BBB Complaint, and Social Media Reviews we are posting in hopes others will not experience our loss of $475, an incomplete job, and how Fire-Safe has rendered our wood stove unusable until I pay a reputable Chimney Sweep to properly complete the work. read more

I am in the process of buying a house with a short inspection deadline. Of the local companies I called, they were the only ones who were able to fit me in the day after calling them. I later found out that they had to move their schedule around to fit in my request. The day after the inspection, I had some follow-up questions. Fantastic and honest with the condition of my chimney. Prior to arrival they called to let me know they were heading my way. Arrived set and cleaned up after completing the inspection and cleaning. Asked questions on the repairs and was told I would need some minor work done. Great and will bring them back to complete the work. read more

Had a leaking chimney. They charged me $300 to do an inspection that was just essentially a quick visual estimate for needing a $1300 repair to be scheduled at a later date. I thought I was getting a thorough inspection that would cover all potential problems. Two guys showed up for 10 minutes of work (not kidding). They said they didn't guarantee the work and what it really needed was an extra $920 for a water repellent. When I asked why it was $300 for ten minutes they said it was because of insurance (for non guaranteed work?). Another company did the repair for $175 and I ended up "eating" the $300. They did arrive on time and were courteous to highlight the positives. read more

Do not call this company! I used the Pasadena branch. They came promptly enough and then asked for a check before they even did anything. After I paid them, they told me that I had incurred a vast amount of damage in a chimney fire and they had to rebuild the entire chimney from the inside. They are quoting thousands of dollars. I called another company to inspect it and they found no issues at all and the crack in the brick was just the house settling a bit. Absolutely criminal!!! Finally, they didn't even sweep it out. Needed information on all the options available for an unused chimney and wood burning fireplace in need of repair. Was particularly interested in the gas fireplace replacement. Determined that it would be a major repair if the terra cotta flue was damaged further into the chimney. Explored all the options and the gentleman I spoke with explained the options and that a gas fireplace and insert would be a different company but if I needed major repairs and didn't find a wood burning fireplace useful that it would be a good long term option. Didn't impress me at all, asked them to come out and inspect the chimney and wanted $260 (discounted!) for a Level 2 inspection (just comments, no pictures). That is fine, they are running a business after all. When they got here older Gary initially seemed more preoccupied in making sure he got paid correctly. They spent about 1/2 hour inspecting the chimney before coming inside and declaring they were finished. I asked them to explain to me what needed to be done to bring the chimney up to a safe level and I don't think I heard much more than about 5 words come out of his mouth. I read his report instead which did list a number of issues with the chimney before he pushed me to sign said report in about 6 places, absolving him of any responsibility. At this point I wasn't impressed at all, I then asked him if can he quote on the cost to bring the chimney up to a safe level and could immediately tell he wasn't at all interested in doing so, telling me he has too much work on his books at the moment. I can't comment on their work, maybe it is very good but the initial impression got me thinking I didn't want to find out. read more
