Prior owners never had chimney cleaned or inspected. Met with Vince and upon inspection of chimney and the thimble connection access that was blocked off by cinder block wall recommend a demo of the wall and a stainless steel liner, and was given a quote. Got a couple more quotes in the spring and went with ChimneyTEK because of the inspection QUALITY and pricing of the quote. The demo work needed on the thimble connection threw off all quotes and given estimates from others that were pricey (sub out demo work) or poorly estimated (unnecessary add ins not needed). I called Vince SEVERAL times to discuss and go over the quote/work (not familiar with work involved and wanted to understand the what and why) each time Vince answered my questions and definitely had a better handle on the job (no subs) had experience on my thimble issue. Crew did a GREAT job, the demo work went better than I imagined. The stainless steel liner was really needed based upon seeing how blocked the thimble was 60-65% and all the soot removed from the chimney prior to installing the liner. This job was a learning experience for me and the job went a lot smoother than I anticipated (did not know what to expect). Proof of insurance also provided before job started. GREAT JOB! The office is only 45 min from my house, so don't know what's up with that. Next the 2 techs showed up and cleaned 1 chimney and we're here about 1.5 hours. Then they told me they were deeming my chimney unfit for use and gave me an estimate for a new liner at 7k. the sighted several issues. The first the there was to much creosote, and looking at the pictures i remember thinking , if they had worked a little longer they could have done a better job. Then they said my fire box needed to be re-shaped or it would cause smoke to come into my house. All the years i've lived here, i've had raging fires all winter long and not once had smoke coming into my house. The tech also noticed where i repaired some of the mortar in the fireplace and said 'whoever did that used the wrong mortar and it would have to be re-done'. Little did he know I did and used fireplace morter that i purchased at a fireplace/chimney store (still have the can it came in) In conclusion it felt like I was at a car dealership and these guys work on commission. I only used them because the regular chimney service I use every year to clean my chimney was unavailable this week and I needed it done because i'm going out of state for awile. On the day of, after taking off from work I was called and told it doesn't look like they will be able to the appointment. I asked to have the supervisor call and talk about why this is happening after the second time I've been asked to reschedule. Shocker, zero interaction from the management staff, nothing. This company appears to have too much work and doesn't care about the customers. The only way to correct this behavior is to hire other another company that cares about its customers. Stay away, trust me.

It could have been done on Wednesday, but it rained all day. The pricing was so fair that I didn't even need to negotiate. I had not looked into chimney repair before, but a bird entering your house like it's Santa will make you consider installing a chimney cap. Joe explained chimney caps to me like I was five years old, in the most respectful way. He explained how the chimney would need two caps because usually the furnace vents through the chimney. He explained how to check for myself in the basement. He was right. He also explained the chimney crown and that it needed to be replaced. I wondered how he could know that since no one climbed to the chimney during the estimate. I asked for pictures before the work started. The crown had cracks but served the house well for 80 years. He was right again. His team showed up, explained the scope of work, gently moved our plants out of the way, and got to work. We also had several bricks that needed to be replaced. That required the team to remove the broken brick, spread mortar, and install new bricks. They match the house well. I napped in front of the fireplace while they worked. I could only hear light tapping from the brick removal process. They sent photos while the work was in progress. Great photos that I will share with you below. Joe and his team exceeded my expectations. Ok so now we are 10 days out and no response and I called Josh and explained that if we are charged for the doors during our walk thru I will be taking this to small claims court. It wasn't then that I was told the doors were available for replacement. Really so you had the doors but didn't intend on replacing something your tech broke until I called again. If you break something it's your job to replace it. Simple as that. If this company had been straight up with me. I probably would have used them for our new house we bought that also has a fireplace. Now I can't trust their services. Quite a coincidence that when I left my voicemail, his tech just so happened to call him, to let him know that he was having issues with the vehicle.(All in a 30 second time frame from when I hung up) I asked if they could come out tomorrow and he told me they are closed on Sundays. Well, it's a good business practice while you are still growing to accommodate the CLIENT being that YOUR COMPANY messed up! I have a Groupon which shows they are still trying to gather up business. Well this is not how you do it! Super shady and unreliable. Again, I had this planned for weeks and had to make maneuvers in my schedule. This is a mom and Pop amateur show. Don't waste your time. Clift Inc. is wholly dishonest, does not complete the work, will not return to correct their incomplete work, and blocks your phone number(s) when you attempt to work with the owner (Gary Clift) to receive a full refund or complete the service. First Warning Sign - Will not accept Credit Cards for services. With a Credit Card, you can dispute the Charges. Fire-Safe is then required to either complete the services or have the Credit Card Company refund your payment. In my case, I am out $475 (Check). I contracted with Fire-Safe to clean my chimney on 12/7/23, only to have the smoke back up into the house an hour after they left the home. I called Fire-Safe (Gary) immediately (12/7/23), Gary stated he would call back that afternoon, but there was no call Back as of 12/18/23. I attempted to call Fire-Safe on 12/18/23, to find my phone number Blocked by Fire-Safe. Second Warning Sign - When you call the Owner 'Gary' they Block your phone number on all their lines. Blocking the call is evidenced by the call going directly to voice Mail on the first ring. Clearly, there is no expectation of a 'Return Client'. When you call from a phone number Fire-Safe has not blocked, they answer immediately or quickly return the call. Yes, this is real and occurred on 12/18/23. Gary returned a call from my work phone within one minute of calling. Gary said he would call me back the following day (12/19/23) however, Fire-Safe has now blocked my work phone and will not return the call. Third Warning Sign - I spoke to Gary on 12/18/2023, he lied to me claiming Maryland Law prohibits Chimney Sweeps from going on a roof to clean the Chimney Cap. To verify Gary's assertion of a Law or Regulation against servicing the Chimney Cap at the roof end of a Chimney, I contacted the Maryland Department of Labor (MD-DOL) that regulates Maryland Chimney Sweep Contractors to ask if this was a Maryland law or regulation? The MD-DOL Employee stated that the Chimney Sweep was not being honest, that there is no such law or regulation, and to stay away. Sadly, this advice is too late for me. If you are reading this, it is not too late for you and your wallet. As of 12/19/23, there has been no response or contact from Gary Clift or Fire-Safe, and my 2-phone numbers remain Blocked. I will call from a new phone number to inform Gary and Fire-Safe of the Maryland Home Improvement Commission Complaint, the BBB Complaint, and Social Media Reviews we are posting in hopes others will not experience our loss of $475, an incomplete job, and how Fire-Safe has rendered our wood stove unusable until I pay a reputable Chimney Sweep to properly complete the work.
