This is one of the best lunch spots in Alameda. There's plenty of free parking so it's not a struggle like when you go to places on Park or Webster. There is a nice outdoor area dining area with picnic tables and umbrellas when you want some fresh air and sunshine and a bright indoor dining area for the days it is too cold or wet to be outside. Sometimes the baked goods are a little on the dry side for my liking but I love their hot dishes. Everything is made to order and just tastes clean and healthy. The tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich are my favorite. They are a perfect combo for Alameda because the weather is usually cool enough so you can have this any day of the year. The BLT is also amazing. The bread is toasted just right. The salads are on the expensive side but they are very hearty and big enough to share. Don't skip the soft serve. That's always a fun treat. The aesthetics of this bakery reminded me of Amsterdam; it was so cute and the interior was beautiful. If you go in the morning the sun shines in and it is just the best place to hangout with friends to grab a pastry in the morning! They have ritual coffee which I really like and I ordered a capp. We also ordered their breakfast pizza which has egg! We also ordered their French toast, a kouign aman, and a couple other pastries. What a cool place this is tucked amongst the relics of the former Naval base in Alameda. As soon as you open the door, the smell of baked goods hits you. As you approach the counter you are dazzled with the variety of foods ranging from loaves of bread, to cookies, pretzels, croissants, danishes, bombolonis, and kouign amanns. And of course their artisan coffees and meals. Having seen the reviews in the SF Chronicle and being down the street today, how could I pass the opportunity up? I was hungry so the order included a ham and cheese croissant for me, a passion fruit bomboloni for my friend and the chocolate swirl and almond croissant for the hubby. Ham and cheese croissant had baked on cheese and three slices of spiral ham along with a nice slice of cheese. Winner!! I stopped by Firebrand Artisan on Saturday for brunch and was really looking forward to trying their Sausage Breakfast Sandwich and it did not disappoint! I had my eye on their Matcha Croissant too, but Pedro, the barista at the register, let me know that most of their specialty croissants sell out early in the morning since they're bestsellers. Definitely gives me a reason to come back and try them! The breakfast sandwich was solid, and it came with breakfast potatoes and a side sauce that had a nice little kick to it, but not spicy, just flavorful. I also ordered their affogato with the swirl soft serve, which was tasty, but I couldn't finish it since it was a much bigger portion than I'm used to when ordering affogato elsewhere. The service really stood out, Pedro was super welcoming, and the staff who brought out my order even asked if I was happy with how the coffee turned out, which I thought was such a nice touch. You can tell they care about customer experience. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. Messaged him and we arranged a meet-up for lunch at Firebrand since he hasn't been out in Alameda Pt since all the redevelopment that has occurred there. We arrived at 11:15 on a Wednesday and found a space in the lot in front. If it is full, they have a second lot across the street. Checking out the menu posted at the entrance, we decided on what we were going to order. Their toast items are served until 11am, breakfast items until 1:30pm and starters, sandwiches, pizzas, soups and salads starts at 11am. After placing our orders, we found an empty table on the kitchen end of the dining area and placed the order number on the table. There are about ten tables inside and there are tables in the patio outside. The utensils, condiments and a self-serve water dispenser are at the counter. Orders were brought out within ten minutes. Crispy Pork and Jam sandwich - with choice of croissant or honey biscuit. I opted for croissant and the sandwich had a generous portion of sliced pieces of pork, which was moist and flavorful. It was topped with a fried over medium egg and some blackberry jam. The pork edges were brown, but not crispy per the name. But it was not important to me as the sandwich was delish. Order came with a generous portion of slightly crispy country potatoes with a slightly spicy aioli. My friend had the daily soup, butternut squash and the house salad and they were happy with their food. We came here on a nice day with the sun out and were pleasantly surprised with the picnic benches outside where many patrons decided to dine. With umbrellas for shade, a giant connect four game to entertain, and plentiful parking spots, Firebrand is conveniently situated for a stress-free outing with the family, friends, or coworkers (assuming you're already in Alameda or planning to come into the island), and due to its proximity to the bay, you'll enjoy nice open areas to enjoy your day afterwards. They open early and tend to sell out of the popular pastries early so get in when you can! We unfortunately did not get to try the matcha croissant but will definitely keep in mind next time we come around. The other pastries and baked goods were delicious! And if you're a fan of their bread, they distribute them through other stores like Whole Foods. When you enter the building (it looks huge from the outside but the actual bakery/dining area isn't too big), hang a left and get in line. It tends to move quick but it's good to take the time to decide what you'll be ordering. You can grab a menu for the prepared food or just use your eyes for the pastries. As we were dining here for lunch, we ordered a number of goodies to share. The prepared food comes out piping hot and they'll bring it to your table (you get a number upon placing your order). You're expected to bus your own table but everything comes out in mini stackable sheet trays so cleanup is easy. The pizza is the thin crust variation but has a good crisp down the edges. The ingredients they use are exceptional - fresh arugula and hearty mushroom slices on the mushroom pizza. The pizzas are decent sized and can certainly feed a 2-3 people depending on their hunger level. We also ordered the roast beef sandwich and it was very meaty with a good helping of fresh arugula as well. It comes with fries or salad but we opted for the fries which came out hot, crispy, and lightly seasoned. Of the baked goods, their butter croissant is on point, Gruyère pretzel bomb is a unique bite, the goat cheese pretzel is yummy (if you like goat cheese), and the chocolate chip cookie is loaded! There are still so many more to try - I cannot wait to come back! Overall, Firebrand definitely has that artisan feel with their breads and pastries but also serves up some hearty meals that are indeed shareable. The description sounds amazing but there was nothing crispy about the pork and more of a pulled pork. I opted for a Tumeric Oatmilk Latte and paired it with a Vegan Apple Spice Muffin! Pastries are given at the counter, and names will be called when your drink(s) is ready. My Tumeric Oatmilk Latte was quite delicious! The tumeric is quite evident. Almost a little overwhelming, but a very comforting and warming spice for a chilly day like today. As for my Apple Spice Muffin, I thought it was a little too dense for a muffin, but I'm guessing it's because of the apples or applesauce mixed in there. It's moist, and just subtly sweet. I still enjoyed it! I had a few bites of my partner's Matcha Croissant, and it was not bad. I can see the appeal of it with all the Matcha cream oozing out when you eat it. I love coming here to purchase bread (their pull apart bread and loafs are really good). They also have great iced coffees, iced matcha lattes and other seasonal beverages that are all good. I've recently discovered Firebrand and heard they opened a new location. There may be a wait during the weekends in the mornings, but the line does move fast. I've been here both times on a weekend afternoon, and they still had a good selection of pastries and breads left. They also have plenty of parking outside, which is a plus. My partner and I decided to try out a bunch of their pastries, drinks, and food. We got the sausage egg and cheese, and to our surprise, it was really delicious since we both don't really gravitate towards breakfast foods. The portion size was filling, and the sausage patty was huge. Their biscuit bread was also really delicious and different from the traditional biscuits. We tried to use the lavender latte, and both were really good. The coffee flavor was prominent while still keeping the flavor profile. My iced ube latte also did not taste watered down. As for pastries, we ordered quite a lot, but our favorites were the matcha croissant, rhubarb danish, savory kougin amann, bombolini, and ham and cheese croissant. Their croissants are packed, and they don't cheap out. The matcha croissants were flaky, filled with cream, and were not overly sweet. The ham and cheese had tons of thick ham slices. The savory kougin amann was really unique since I mainly had sweet ones before, but I found this savory one to be really delicious and actually prefer this over the sweet ones. They used this savory cream cheese filling that tasted like everything bagel and a mix of chives/green onion. The rhubarb danish was a good mix of sweet and savory, which I really liked. We also had the passion fruit bombolini, which is similar to malasadas. They were filled with the cream and are a soft, pillowy donut that was also not too sweet.
