Stopped in today for another pastry: their apricot cronut. Also decided to try their espresso macchiato, which unfortunately I did not enjoy at all. Either they underextracted it (brewed incorrectly) or used light-roasted beans, because it tasted highly sour/acidic. Not classic Italian style at all. Not getting this again and it makes me hesitate to want to try their other coffees. Their smoothies and tea lattes are much better here, e.g. greens smoothie or the matcha latte is my go-to drink here. Their pastries overall are on point - especially their various croissants, it's what they seem to do well with. And I've tried almost all of their pastry goods - as I get a different one each visit. Apricot cronut was really good. Also, I've noticed prices have crept up for various items within the last 5 months. Plain croissant used to be $3.50 and is now $5.

Stopped by for a pastry and a latte. The matcha croissant did not disappoint! I enjoyed the green tea crunch on the outside and was pleasantly surprised by the matcha filling. It was just the right sweetness. I also ordered a vanilla oat milk latte, which was tasty. I would say there probably wasn't much caffeine in it lol I was still yawning after finishing it, but that's ok as I wasn't expecting a big caffeine kick from a latte. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is that I think it's on the rather pricey side. I'll be back to try more pastries but pass on the latte.

I stopped at this place for a lunch and it was the perfect place to be! We ordered quite a bit and all of the food was delicious. Tuna melt: They had a good portion of tuna to bread and it was perfectly balanced. The salad turned out good too with their vinaigrette. Chicken Club Sandwich: This sandwich felt clean and light where it wouldn't make me feel groggy after eating it. I liked how all the veggies and avocado paired well with the crispy chicken. The bread was slightly dry but it was fine since it came with a sauce and avocado in it. Ube latte: This drink was good but I feel like it wasn't creamy enough. It could've been because I got it with oat milk and iced. I had to add more sweetener to it and it was nice since there were sweeteners on the counter for me to add. I'd probably pass this one since the ube flavor wasn't strong. Matcha latte: This matcha was really good and creamy. We got it warm and it was a good choice. It was sweetened very well and I loved the cute heart design on it. This place had outdoor and indoor seating. I liked how open this place was and clean too! I was so come back to this place!

We LOVE this place! We only wish there was one closer to us in South Bay! Whenever we are up in the area to sail, we stop in. The open, spacious indoor and outdoor seating is perfect for loud kids, and enjoying fresh baked goods and lunch. The line looked long on a Sunday, but it moved at a swift pace with all of the staff playing their different roles effectively. The kids and my husband loved their burgers. He said it was cooked just right and had bacon on his. The fries were so fresh and tasty; we couldn't stop stealing from our daughter. ;) I had the quinoa bowl and it was so fresh and reminded me of a summer bowl I make, but even better with the addition of cut tomatoes and goat cheese. It was the perfect, healthy salad, (without all of the hard work making). ;) We decided to indulge in the cake pop this trip. It was huge and covered in sprinkles. Perfect size to split 4 ways, and the best surprise was that it was more like a thick, indulgent dark chocolate fudge pop. Couldn't even snap a pic it went so fast! ;) Thank you Firebrand! Please open a location in South SJ in Almaden. It's just what we need down here!

Stopped by to try their fresh baked pizza but unfortunately it was sold out for the day at 3pm. They have a nice assortment of baked goods and also ice cream. Convenient location and parking. Indoor and outdoor tables under shaded awnings.

Hadn't been to the new location in Alameda and was open to give them a try. The new space is quite expansive and is located on the old air force base. There is ample seating available inside and outside/covered picnic style benches. The menu options cover breakfast/lunch options, baked goods and breads. We decided to try the Reuben sandwich and the cobb salad. I tend to like my reuben toasted with sauerkraut and plenty of thousand island dressing. I wasn't thrilled with the sandwich overall as it missed the mark for me. The cobb salad was pretty good and I would definitely try it again. We also grabbed a few pastries which were also really good. Open to visit again and try other things !

Stopped by Firebrand on a Monday morning for some breakfast, and it was delicious! Service was friendly. Everything is made to order so even though there was almost no one there, it took some time for my order to come out. I ordered the ube latte with almond milk - not sweet at all, which I appreciated, but not very strong. I also ordered the kids' sausage. I was pleasantly surprised that it came not only with some delicious crispy potatoes but also a nicely fried egg. Delicious and filling - perfect for a quick breakfast. I sat outside to soak in some vitamin D and had an overall great experience!

I stopped by here earlier before an event close by in Alameda to kill some time and I loved the aesthetic. It was so charming and rustic and has everything you want in a cafe/bakery. The location has ample seating, open space, clean, and plenty of options for a customer. I ordered a savory danish and drank water- I did not want anything too heavy as I had something active to do. The danish was vegetarian which I loved and mimicked a pizza- it had tomato paste with mozzarella cheese in it and other tasty ingredients. I would love to come and have lunch here soon. The coffee options were great as well!

I love the lofty ceiling and cool, airy interior. It's a great place to do work out of and they have free Wifi, as well as cool drinks (ube latte? Yes please! And they also have other variations of ube drinks and more, as well as soups, pastries, and sandwiches. They are, of course, known for their breads. I've had their challah bread and also their pull-apart pain au lait and sweet potato pull-apart. Everything is delicious and fresh. They have lots of outdoor seating as well. Great for groups and families (and dogs can be outside.) Service is fine, it gets busy here depending when you go.

Very welcoming server. Very helpful. A big menu to choose from with weekend brunch. We came during the week, not crowded and had a lovely green machine drink (spinach, Fuji apple, lemon, pineapple, banana). We ow this is super tasty! The California salad has spirited beets. So pretty and it was lovely to look at and tasty. Big seating area outside and ready parking.

My friend lives in Alameda and we met at the Ferry parking lot (free) to walk the trail. We worked up our appetite and landed here for a late lunch. They have a full service coffee menu with fun things like strawberry matcha lattes and house made pastries like matcha croissants. They also have cupcakes and you can order cakes and cupcakes for special events. Their lunch menu had salads and sandwiches along with pizza. I ordered their pulled pork sliders which were so delicious I ate all 3 of them. The bread is spectacular and the pork was crispy on the outside and not greasy. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it is very kid friendly. The staff are friendly and there is one gender neutral bathroom. Outdoor seating are picnic tables and it is next to other cool spots like Almanac Adventureland.

We made a pit stop here on our way to visit some friends nearby based upon their recommendation. When the GPS routed us into the former naval base at Alameda Point, we thought it was routing us incorrectly. Turns out Firebrand is indeed at Alameda Point, occupying a former warehouse. They have a private parking lot out front, but spots are limited so you'll most likely find yourself parking on the streets during busy times. We arrived right around the afternoon during the weekend and found the line out the door. With every table inside and outside occupied. This apparently is due to bad timing on our part according to our local friends. As we noticed there are sport teams nearby for kids. And parents flock here afterwards for some lunch to feed all of the hungry mouths. Although we did not partake of any of the brunch/lunch menu, we did purchase a large assortment of delicious baked goods. Everything we purchased was delicious. With really flakey outer shells, and buttery soft bread on the inside. We look forward to coming here again in the near future. But will definitely time it better to avoid the lunchtime rush. Credit/debit card only here, as they do not accept cash.

    London Fog

Tried Firebrand in Alameda for the first time on a Sunday afternoon, and it was definitely bustling -- but in a lively, neighborhood kind of way. It's set in what looks like a repurposed aviation warehouse, which gives it a cool industrial vibe with high ceilings and lots of natural light. There's plenty of seating both inside and out. You order at the counter and get a number for your table, which kept things moving smoothly. I was with my sister and brother-in-law and we shared the California Salad and Wagyu Roast Beef sandwich. The salad was super fresh and colorful -- packed with avocado, spiraled beets, shredded carrots, watermelon radish, cherry tomatoes, and crunchy tortilla strips on a mix of greens, all tied together with a tangy balsamic dressing. 8/10. The sandwich was hearty and delicious -- tender wagyu beef, melty provolone, and just the right kick from the horseradish sauce. 8.5/10. I also got a London Fog, which is my new favorite cafe drink order. They also had a variety of breads that looked amazing, plus breakfast items, soup, pizza, and even a kids menu -- so something for everyone. Would definitely come back to try more (and maybe grab a loaf to go). A solid spot for a casual but quality meal with a great atmosphere!

They market their teas through their website shop and at Dolores Outpost in San Francisco. Through the years they have taken part in pop-ups at various locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area serving their Matcha, Hojicha and Sencha teas along with other Japanese specialties. Although I had previously had a sampling of their teas at one of their San Francisco pop-ups and have followed them on Facebook and Instagram it wasn't until recently that I became more interested in their product. Back in late April 2020 (actually May 1st) during the height of sheltering in place and bored out of my mind I came upon a ZOOM program hosted by the Japan Society of Northern California introducing participants to make-at-home tea concoctions using Roots & Craft artisanal teas and various forms of alcoholic beverages taught by Roots & Craft founders Maya Kono and her partner Teru. I learned of so many unique tea based beverages during that hour long presentation that suddenly I wanted to try them all. Then came the announcement about a week ago that following a series of successful pop-up events at Oakland's O2 Artisans Aggregate (now also known as Magnolia Mini Mart during the COVID-19 era) located at 2311 Magnolia Street in a mostly industrial area in West Oakland that Roots & Craft will set up shop every Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM until further notice. A week later on a beautifully sunny July 4th Saturday I found myself at Magnolia Mini Mart minutes after they had opened their gate to pay a visit with Maya and Teru and their Roots & Craft shared stall located next door to June's Pizza. The featured beverage for their July 4th pop up was their Hojicha Frappe which I ordered to be made with oat milk (whole milk and almond milk were the other options). Hojicha is a Japanese green tea where the tea leaves are roasted instead of steamed which gives it a smoky, almost nutty flavor. Their Hojicha Frappe combines their brewed Hojicha tea with your choice of milk, white chocolate chips and ice cubes. It can be topped with a whipped dairy cream which I opted out of and a dusting of Hojicha tea powder. In addition to the Frappe I ordered one of two featured Japanese sandwiches that being a dessert-like fresh fruit sandwich. For the month of July Roots & Craft in collaboration with Shades of Sugar Bakeshop of Oakland are featuring a set of tea inspired macarons. I couldn't pass on that so I ordered some of those as well. After conversing with the super nice couple I took a seat at the outdoor garden located in front of the neighboring Soba Ichi Restaurant to enjoy my treats. The Hojicha Frappe was amazing and the roasted, nutty flavor really shone so much in fact that I mistakenly thought the little ground up bits of white chocolate chips were crushed hazelnuts. The fruit sandwich was a hit as well. Sandwiched in between two slices of light and airy bread were huge pieces of fresh mango, pineapple, banana, peach and orange in a lightly sweetened whip cream. I had another commitment in the East Bay that limited my time here, but I've got a couple of off days next weekend and I'll be sure to return to try out some more tea-inspired concoctions from Roots & Craft. In the meantime, I can't wait to dig into those tea-inspired macarons. For COVID-19 contactless payments via credit card is used and hand sanitizer is available on the counter. Maya and Teru wear face masks and to be respectful you should too. There is plenty of open space on site for social distancing.
