Came here for the first time for coffee and ordered a dinosaur cookie; did not disappoint. Cookie was a short bread with Christmas colored sprinkles. It was so crumbly and buttery with perfect sweetness. Went great with my cappuccino which they have their own blend of beans! They have syrups that arent made in house but that's fine. Their Mexican spice to sprinkly on your coffee though, was fire. Great flavor but spicy. Hot coffee plus hot sprinkle wasn't expected but it was very good. Great location. Nice little shop in a fairly new complex, I ordered two of the breakfast biscuits which had cheese, eggs and tomato in them it hey were alright and one wrap which was pretty good and tasty. The help was friendly although when I got my order it was a bit wrong others coffees I ordered one was an Americano but they put cream in it where I specified just black otherwise it was pretty good parking looks like it can be a bit of a issue as street parking seems to get pretty full I had to park about a block away. The menu was cut down from what was shown on Yelp so that was a bit different other than that I wouldn't mind going again for the wraps read more

Great location and PLENTY of seating. Very clean inside and a handful of options. -1 star because myself and my partner both got different coffee options and it was zero flavor in the coffee. Just tasted like warm milk -1 star (this is just me) this again is a fun spot to relax and if you have time. If you are trying to get your coffee and get going do not come here. To get our two coffees, with no line or crowd it took about 10 minutes. I'm sad bc this place is so freaking cute and I love supporting small businesses. But dang they did me dirty. I ordered here and iced Matcha with whole milk and vanilla a small one. It was eight dollars when I tasted it there's absolutely no vanilla in it. When I asked her. She said there was just a little bit left in the box in the bottle that they had. :/ I'm sorry ma'am, but be honest let me know and maybe offer something else I could've did mocha and I expect my Matcha to be more matcha especially if I'm paying over five dollars for it. Signs posted in front of Zocalo: "Future Resident Parking" with hours posted. "Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at owner's expense" barrista doesn't know when they towed. There's a small lot across with no signage and limited space. Barrista is uber friendly. Got covfefe & pastry within minutes. Place was empty. Thought it looked closed. Offerings: quick bites, breakfast, sweet & savory, sides, sandwiches, salads, covfefe, brunch, lattes, drips. Eats: croissant pastry (5.75) by Firebrand -big & fluffy, not very buttery, tasted ok. Drip covfefe(3.50) dark roast -house brand made from Columbian beans, tasted lite, had lots of body, smooth, interesting taste Drips: -lots of seating, inside and out. -R & B music slightly loud for people trying to study. -room is flooded from natural rays from the sun. Ya know what? I'm a fan. I was debating between 4 and 5 stars, but decided between ambiance and food it deserves to be considered a 5 star cafe. Location: Hidden in the large luxury building development in Brooklyn Basin, this modern coffee shop looks at open space on the water front. If you don't want to sit window-side, you can take your fare to go and find yourself a bench. Parking is limited as there are about 6-7 luxury apartment buildings and they're doing construction on more. The coffee is solid, and the breakfast sandwich was fantastic. Available on a croissant or sourdough, it was bacon or avo, egg, cheese topped with fresh greens. The $15ish price tag was shocking at first, but this was fresh, large and sadly, that's the going rate now for a sandwich. They include a side which was the option of potatoes or fruit, which was a substantial side, adding more value to the price tag. Bright, modern, a great menu if you're looking to eat in a location off the beaten path but seems a world away. I'm into it! read more

I want to love Zocalo - it has a great location, it's super cute, and the staff is friendly. I love the food as well! The avo toast is always great. However, I had to take off 2 stars because the coffee always misses the mark for me - more specifically, it's a milk steaming issue. Every time I've come here, my drink is always boiling hot and the milk is way over-steamed. You should not hear a loud screeching of milk steaming in a cafe, as you do in this one. This past time I visited, I literally burnt my palate! I had to wait at least 5 minutes for the drink to cool down to a reasonable temperature. If Zocalo can resolve this issue, I'd be a much bigger fan! read more

Love this coffee shop! It's literally right around the corner from my house so I love the convenience. The coffee is pretty good, but the food is better. I would say it's a bit pricey but worth it honestly. The owner is very nice, I see her there from time to time. I like that they have a loyalty rewards system, that's pretty cool. Location is great! Ample space for doing work and wanted to love...unfortunately their matcha is probably the worst I've ever had. The barista was kind and let me know that it's very bitter and recommended sweetener. I added vanilla which I thought worst case would just taste like vanilla milk, however the powder is so incredibly powdery tasting that the entire drink just tasted inedible. Zocalo Coffee is finally in Oakland! It's located in the Brooklyn Basin neighborhood across from Township Commons. Today (02/13/23) is their soft opening but they're already looking great. The space has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was kind and welcoming. They had a limited food menu for now but they offered pastries and avocado toast. Checked out this new spot in a newly developed housing area in Oakland and was definitely left conflicted. I would give the service here 2/5 as the cashier seemed very confused while we tried to order which was fine but she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I would give the food and coffee a 5/5. I had gotten the breakfast sandwich with white cheddar and a side of fruit. The bread was sourdough and very fresh. The flavors in the sandwich itself were great and the fruit was so sweet and fresh. I also got an oatmilk latte and it was on the better side of the lattes I've had. The meals beee are definitely a bit on the pricer side for the quantity of food you get. The space itself is massive with plenty of seating. You are able to order at the counter before picking your own seating. If you're looking for the perfect "work from cafe" cafe - let me save you some trouble. It's Zocalo Coffee & Kitchen. I've often worked from their San Leandro cafe so I was very excited to check out their new Oakland location. And if you like their San Leandro cafe, you'll love the Oakland one. The cafe is on the first floor corner of Orion Apartments. There's lots of street parking all around. Once inside, the space is pretty large. They've got plenty of tables inside for people to sit and stay awhile. I ordered the Mexican mocha and a croissant breakfast sandwich with bacon. The Mexican mocha was delicious with the right amount of sweetness and just a hint of spice. The breakfast sandwich was really filling AND it came with a side (I went with potatoes). I had to take half of it to-go. They've also got some weekend specials (with alcohol!) which makes it a pretty great stop for a morning meet up with friends and family. They put mayo on the chilaquiles When i asked why (because it doesn't say that in the menu) they said they probably ran out of sour cream . But did nothing to fix their mistake she just made it seem like it was normal I'm so sad bc i didn't have the guts to return the plate we just scraped the mayo off and try to eat it. 1 year in, and I'm confident this is the greatest daytime work/study spot in all of the East Bay. You want to be here on a rainy day. Just a 15min walk or 7min scooter ride from Laney College, Zocalo in Brooklyn Basin is aesthetic, spacious, and delicious. My wife and I wanted to get some work done one afternoon, and we popped in to get creme brulee lattes (iced is the way to go) and a BLT. Weekend brunch here is absolutely underrated - chefs do a fantastic job. I've tried a couple different things (including weekday lunch) and while food costs a more on par with a restaurant than a cafe - the generous slices of bread, and the perfectly fried potatoes put this place over the top of many other go-to spots in Oakland. Paired with weekend mimosas and board games to rent - this place is an absolute vibe. Check their hours! If they were open later - I think this spot could become an excellent evening study cafe/bar (like Mother Tongue on broadway, or Social Study / The Interval in SF). I live in this area and I have been to this place a couple times, I will say the food is not worth how much it costs, it is very pricey for no reason. the second problem i have come across is the staff and service, they have been snobby eveytime I have and bad attitudes and get even more mad if they see you did not tip, and i'm not going to tip when you are not serving me but simply just taking my order down and they don't like that so they get really bitchy and rude. if you want to save your money and go somewhere that is actually good i would look up the oakland grill. it's close and it has fast service and good prices and really good food. don't waste your money on zocalo! read more

Zocalo was a much needed addition to the Brooklyn Basin ...the food ,coffee did not dissapoint...we had the breakfast sandwich with ba on on a croissant...light croissant with bacon,fried egg,red onion and arugula I believe with a garlic sauce spread ...good sandwich for sure..would order again...had it with the fried potatoes...crispy on the outside and still soft inside tossed with what tasted like old bay seasoning... very good. The service is also good...appreciate that. The space is large and can accommodate a good sized crowd..the decor is modern and the space is well lighted..overall a very nice spot for breakfast and a coffee ...they also do lunch.Will try that out next. read more

One word... BRAVO ! We went to the happy hour last night at the Zocalo Coffee and Kitchen at Brooklyn Basin and were delighted with our choice! We had a large group and so we were fortunate to be able to sample many dishes. First, the location. Beautiful sunny spot right on the water. Second, the space. Clean, contemporary, airy, great artwork, lots of light. Third... THE FOOD !! Hats off to the chef behind this new Happy Hour menu. I can't resist mussels on a menu and these were the absolute best I have ever eaten... big and delicious, accompanied by an OUTSTANDING broth dotted with little strands of spinach and onion. The crunchy bread that it came with was perfect for soaking up the incredible broth. The salads not only looked gorgeous but tasted so good. The produce is incredibly fresh and tasty. (I especially like how they use whole baby Romain leaves in the Cesar instead of chopping them up.) The sliders were a huge fan favorite as were the Brussel Sprouts. And yes we left room for dessert! The desserts are perfection. Ooooh lah lah ! The crème brûlée had a perfectly caramelized topping that was so satisfying to crack with a spoon. The Chocolate Pot de crème was creamy and delicious. The wait staff was friendly and did a great job. This restaurant certainly deserves your attention. The vibes are solid and the people are hard working and doing a great job. My family and I came on opening night for their happy hour service! All new menu and a full cocktail menu. All the staff is so sweet and super friendly! For drinks, we got Florence and the bird of paradise. Both were so good, but if you must choose, try the Birds of Paradise! For food, we tried a bit of everything! Starting we got the roasted Brussels sprouts (my personal favorite! The best Brussels sprouts I've had!), Fries ( definitely get the cajun seasonings added), mussels for 2 (was enough for 3), Tartine of Oxtail (not enough! I could have ate the whole pot!), the sliders are also a must try! ( they come in sets of two So definitely the pork belly and the fried chicken)! For dessert, we also got one of everything!
