We were excitedly waiting for the opening of the new sub shop in the Van Dorn Plaza, but were a little worried that it wasn't going to be awesome as the menu promised. Well, we were worrying for nothing! It was great! We walked in to a rousing chorus of "Hello, and welcome to Firehouse Subs!" and made our selections: the NY Steamer and the Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar Brisket. The subs were so fantastic--hot, melty cheese with good deli meats. The staff members were all very nice and helpful and I can't wait to go back. First time at this location, wasn't greeted when I came in with the famous "welcome to firehouse" greeting. Went up to the register, manager seemed like he really hated his job, almost like it was robot talking to me to the point when I came back to tell him if he could check on my sandwich's he said "hey can I take your order" (he didn't recognize me) also one of the employees was wiping there face with there gloves on and if it wasn't for the lady manager (who was delivering) he probably would've continued working with the same gloves. After 18mins of waiting for 2 medium sandwiches #10 and #3 which I know should only take about 6mins per SW. Also there was a lot of awkward conversation between the manager and employees like it was some kind of power play, I understand you have to let them know when they do something wrong but you don't have to do it in front of customers, (it wasn't anything serious either just something about coke machine) as I'm sitting here typing this, I notice that the manager really looks like he's frustrated with either his job or maybe personal problems which is okay it happens to all of us, just try to act like you care. I love firehouse subs! No matter what location I always get a great sandwich and good service. I went around 12:30 on a weekday to this location and it was pretty busy. I ordered the number 6 which is their club and it was really good! The sandwich was lacking a little on the mustard but what can you do. They brought out my sandwich relatively fast. They also have a great selection of chips to choose from. Plenty of seating as well. I highly suggest the club or Italian, those are my two favorite sandwiches by far. They have a whole hot sauce bar if you want to spice up your sandwich which is pretty cool too. I always know I'm getting some good quality sandwiches whenever I stop at this place thinly cut meats, great toppings, and good customer service! read more

My friend and I came on a normal Tuesday afternoon around 1pm and the service was beyond slow. It took nearly an hourfor them to make our subs and there were no seats to even eat our subs once we waited. I excepted better from a place I like to eat so much at. Very disappointed. read more

Don't try to redeem the free cookie with check in, they have no clue what you are talking about and make no effort to understand. The cashier had zero customer service skills, this coming from someone who has only ever worked customer service related fields. No "hello" or "thank you". The manager on duty on 8-15-17 is not only a phenomenal manager, but the definition of what hospitality means. Today was my first time using Bite Squad, I've had problems one other popular delivery service before so I figured I'd give them a try. The driver was quick and nice, food was still warm, however the order I had placed using their app either came up entirely wrong on Firehouses' end or an employee didn't know their products very well. I am highly allergic to tomatoes, and my "usual" sub does not contain any tomatoes. Today, my steamer had tomatoes. I have been a long time fan of firehouse subs with no complaints in the past. I called in to let them know I was dissatisfied with my order for the first time in 5 years. The manager was quick to call me back to assure complete satisfaction, he took the proper order, and had their personal delivery service/catering personnel bring it right to my doorstep. I'm not one to complain or out a business from poor service, I myself work in the industry also. I simply wanted to express gratitude and praise to the way the manager solved the problem and surpassed my expectations. I will be back to enjoy my "usual" in the future. read more

The slowest service ever. We were the only two people in the place and it took about 15 minutes to get the sandwiches...which tasted strange. If you want some ptomaine poisoning be sure and order up the meatball sub. God only know how old those meatballs were. And we did get food poisoning. Never ever eating here again!!! read more

I just moved to Alexandria from Maryland and didn't know what I was missing. I don't have a favorite yet but their menu looks so good I order a different sub each time I visit. The staff is friendly and gives me their favorite specialty sandwich, so I usually just order that. Will continue to come back. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Normally do a quick run by Subway but decided that this would be closer on my way to work. The service, staff, cleanliness and FOOD, was awesome! I was shocked at how good their sandwiches really were; felt as though I was in a NY deli. Excellent meat, sliced very thin and lots of it (well worth the additional small amount I paid over subway) Cashier and staff were very pleasant. Of course it isn't as fast as subway but to me...it was well worth it...you could tell your meal was personally prepared and not just slapped together. I am going to make this a go to place on a more frequent basis and order for functions as well. Good job to the management for giving us a clean, hospitable place to eat in Annandale! read more

While I have had Firehouse Subs many many times in the past, this is the first time coming to this store. The food was amazing but the customer service was beyond what I could explain, especially for a sandwich place. You can tell everyone genuinely cared and seemed happy to be there. I would be happy to work there too because the owner Pamela is probs the best owner I have met at any restaurant. She is genuinely interested in the experience of her guests and goes around to chat with her customers. Never had this type of experience at any Firehouse Subs before or any sandwich shop for that matter. Overall, I will be back very soon. It was an unexpected amazing experience. read more

I like Firehouse Sub, but will have to fine a new location. Went there yesterday to pick-up dinner on my way home. The manager was rude, so I ask if he was having a bad day. I guess he took it personal, because I ordered, no onion or tomatoes on my sub, but when I got home, he had put both items on my sub. He said he was over worked, give him time off, because he is chasing your customers away. It use to be such a fun place to visit. read more

This is a hot subs place similar to Quizno's or Jerry's (but probably not as over-the-top calorie-wise as Jerry's). I had the Cheddar & Brisket sandwich and it was delicious. The service was also fantastic as well. Plus they are a socially responsible company - they were founded by firefighters and do some work with them. My only criticisms were minor - the interior decor makes this place seem cheap. If they could polish this up it would be a lot more inviting. Also, their menu on the board is a little hard to read. For example, there are like 5-6 standard hot subs that cost the same as the specialty subs but it's hard to see on the board. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

I ordered using Uber Eats. The meat was smashed together, I could not tell which meats were on the sandwich. The manager said the bread was toasted, it was not. The ingredients were not fresh, a thin layer of shredded lettuce, one tomato, and a dinky ring of onion, smear of mayo and no mustard though the manager said it comes with mustard. It was the worst sandwich I've ever tried to eat. Disgusting. Never again! I contacted the store to give them an opportunity to make it right, he apologized and that was it. Well, I spoke to soon. I just returned from lunch at this location. I ordered my sub from Living Social. I wrote I wanted a sub with only steak, cheese, and mushroom. What I received was a fully loaded sub. They remade it, but exactly the same. I had to have them remake this sub for a second time and it was still wrong. I ate it anyway since I probably couldn't get a refund anyway. Sorry guys, probably never having a Firehouse Sub again. read more

Bad Service. Dirty Food. There was nobody else in line and nobody else waiting, yet it took them 20 minutes to make my sub yet there were like 5 people behind the counter doing who knows what. Then when I got the sub, it had three pieces of black colored hair in it on the tomato and on the lettuce. A horrible first time experience I will never go there again. read more

If I could give a negative star I would. Called in an order for takeout to the office for a few people and when I got sandwiches to the office, one had nothing but a few pieces of lettuce. Order was a Turkey sandwich - they forgot the Turkey on the Turkey sandwich! Called and they offered a refund or a free sandwich in the future. I took the refund. Unfortunately this is not the first time something like this has happened and when you go for your free sandwich because of a previously mistake there is no record of it. I am not a Firehouse Subs fan to begin with but my husband is. So when we decided to go to the nearest Potbelly (my favorite) and it was closed, I gave in and we headed to this location which was close to our house. It was not busy and we placed our order at 5:51. Apparently it was shift change and we waited about 15 minutes for my sandwich followed shortly by my husband's. My husband said he overheard the incoming staff ask the outgoing staff if they were going to make our order or wait until shift change and she said, "No, I'll wait." This was about 6 minutes after we placed our order. Also, both my husband and I asked for no mayo but assumed that it would come with mustard especially since the menu clearly states that it does! So I had to ask for mustard packets. I also asked for wheat bread and got white. The sandwiches were mediocre but we ate them because we were hungry. Another thing that really made this experience bad was that the owner or manager was reprimanding a staff member for not shaving in front of the customers. Do that in private for Pete's sake! It just made me feel uncomfortable. All around poor experience and will not be returning to this or any Firehouse subs. Sorry, honey. read more

I'm curious if this location has changed managers or ownership or something recently? This location was my go to for years. Service was always great, everything was clean and neat and never a problem with the food. It's been a couple of months since my visit today and things have changed. When I went in, there were two other customers there, one eating and one waiting for their order. The counter where you place your order had books and paperwork piled up all over the place, plus a few flys fighting for counter space. The guy taking my order was OK but, not as nice as the previous crew. The drink machine was dirty and had trash all over the space where the lids and straws were. Food was ready in the normal time, but the counter where you pick it up had scraps on it and needed to be wiped down badly. When I got home the sub looked like it was thrown into the container. I had a tough time eating it as a sub and basically just scoped it out with my fingers. Oh and the pickle was old and tough and I had a hard time biting through it, I just threw it away. This is sad, I really liked this location, its close to home. Hopefully it's was just an off night. read more

I have been to Firehouse Subs for lunch for a several times. I usually have the Firehouse Steak and Cheese combo meal with the chips and soda. I like the combo meal because of the taste and the price. During the lunch time, however, the place is quite crowded and you have to stand in line for your turn to order. But unlike other fast food restaurants the employees will bring the subs to your table when they are ready. read more

We were on our way to Five Guys and saw Firehouse Subs at Pinecrest and thought we we try it out, there was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived. I had the Pastrami Sub, it was mostly fat and gristle and mostly inedible. Getting a good Pastrami sandwich is a bit of a challenge, so I knew I was taking a chance, but I have never had Pastrami as bad as this was. I don't think you can even buy Pastrami as bad as the Pastrami on this sandwich. You can't expect a Deli sandwich from a fast food place, but for the price you pay you expect to get something you can at least eat, and you expect the staff, if they had any training at all, to set aside the large globs of fat and gristle rather than piling them on a sandwich even the staff would not have been willing to eat. My companion was unhappy with their sandwich too. We won't be going back, ever. read more

The sub was decent; however, it took so long to receive my order after it was placed. I was the only one ordering (other patrons in the restaurant had already received their food and were eating). It took 11 minutes to get my medium Italian sub. Some employees were loud and used foul language during their conversations behind the counter. you can't get a sandwich made correctly or the meat doesn't last till the end of the sandwich bread. I called in my order fifteen minutes prior to stopping by and when I should up the order was not ready and they said that they did not get the order. I asked for the steak and cheese sub and they did not put enough meet, the meat tasted old and was not worm enough. This place is as good as it gets as far as a sub shop is concerned. All subs made to order, always fresh, tasty meats and cheeses, never had my order messed up, and people working working are professional and attentive. They also have a wide assortment of sauces , BBQ and hot sauces. read more
