The Roy Rogers restaurant chain was a staple for me and my family as a child of the 80s. We frequently visited the Springfield Mall location or the one on Commerce if we were out that way. I ate at the Mall location a bit more when one of my friends got a job there. The bacon cheeseburger was my absolute favorite. The taste was everything. I preferred Roy's food over McDonald's ANY DAY. I may have been extra influenced by my dad, who grew up on Roy Rogers comics and movies, so I grew a love for westerns. Even if the restaurant chain is relative to The King of Cowboys in name only, I love it just by the association. Time goes by, Hardee's buys Roy's and gradually my beloved chain began to disappear. I left for college and during my visits home would look for a Roy's but knew it would just be a memory. About 20 years later, I came home for another friend's wedding and nearly crashed into the car in front of me. I thought my eyes were playing tricks. I turned the car around, much to my wife's confusion, and told her we needed to stop. This review is more so a rave about the Roy Rogers restaurant than it is of this particular location, but I am ETERNALLY GRATEFUL that it's here. With each visit home (I live in Florida now), I make it a point to grab a bite here. The food is just as tasty as I remember, but the experience of it all is what keeps me coming back. The roast beef was a little dry and undersized. The sandwich actually fell apart and was had to be eaten with a fork. The fries were also underwhelming. And for the price at 1213 $ for a sandwich combo is a little overpriced. I think a definite plus is the fixing bar that is awesome and hope they keep that the restaurant is clean and well kept and I think the staff were hard to get orders out on time. read more

Definitely had a 5* fast food dining experience here! Not going to blow your socks off but it was a decent fast food meal. We ordered an 8pc chicken meal and the new wild dill chicken sandwich, which totaled about $30. The cashier told us it would be a 15 and 5 minute wait respectively, which turned out to be pretty accurate. One might be annoyed at having to wait at a fast food restaurant, but I was happy to know that the food was being cooked fresh for us. The new sandwich has cheese, pickles, and a spicy aioli; it appears to be a competitor to Popeye's chicken sandwich, and it tasted practically identical. I think Popeye's chicken has just a bit more flavor, because this one was almost bland on bites where I only had chicken and bread. The chicken was still VERY fresh and juicy, such to the point that juices were falling out the back of the sandwich. Definitely a solid sandwich for only $7! We don't have many Roy Rogers in the area, but if they all had food and service like this, I'm sure they would be very successful! read more

I hadn't been here in a minute, and I was with a friend so we thought to come here. Apparently it's the last day of school and the other restaurant that we were considering had a twenty minute wait at 12pm. That's why we came across the street to this fast food restaurant. Strangely, there were hardly any customers in here. We both got the same regular roast beef sandwich combos. The barbeque sauce made all the difference and we had no problems at all consuming everything in short order. This fast food restaurant is tried and tried and I've been coming to their various stores for all of my life, and will definitely continue to do so. There used to be more locations back in the day. I love Roy Rogers, it's the only fast food I'll still eat and crave. It's nostalgic, they still serve real roast beef unlike Arby's which is processed and disgusting. Their fried chicken also rivals Popeyes, and tastes more home style. Their fixins' bar is also the best, they've never gotten rid of it and I love to load on the veggies. I'm surprised they closed all around but at least this location still exists, and is a slice of my childhood. In an era where you are charged for every little thing, extra sauces. RR stays ole school by allowing you to load up as many veggies, pickles, and sauces are you want. I hope they never change. I must also note that I tried their new dill fried chicken sandwich, and it came out fresh out of the frier. It did take some time so it wasn't "fast food", I notice another review said the same thing, but if you aren't in a rush I prefer this since it tastes much better. Service was the worst I ever had dealing with the staff here. Gentleman who took our order was nice. After $45 of food ordered including 3 orders of chicken tender meals I was given 1 sauce per order. I asked for 1 additional sauce and was told it would cost .35 . It's not the cost its just being petty as well as the girl behind the counters attitude. I was also shorted 1 holster of fries which the manager came to the table and searched through our food for the fries. After not finding the fries and no apology I followed the manager to the counter for the fries with no communication. I reported feedback to Roy Rogers and they asked what they could do I responded and they never followed up. Life long Roys fan but this was very bad experience. read more

Friday evening. Woodlawn Roy Rogers. Young man at the counter was so rude to a black customer that she said she would go to Belleview for kinder service. I had fish and asked for another tartar sauce. The employee literally threw it at me. My son and I sat down, and the young man began to make fun of the customer who had left. He joked about her with an customer with ugly comments. I took my unopened food back and asked the manager for a refund. I couldn't eat with such an atmosphere. She tried, but refunded another customer's order. The young employee actually threatened me with violence for returning my dinner. My son came to my side to prevent any violence and we left for Belleview where we also found the lady who had left. I'm a 72 year old man and to have to endure disrespect and physical threats upset my son and me enormously. I have patronized this store for 42 years, was a friend of the Todds, and also took my large family here for enjoyment. Frankly, I am afraid to ever go back. I witnessed store manager Roy Rogers being rude when she asked an employee working behind the counter to remind a customer in front of others not to use the "Fix Bar" because he was buying chicken fried chickens instead of hamburgers. Roy Rogers has been a favorite of mine since my mother introduced me to Roy Rogers and the Double R Bar burger about 40 years ago. Marriott made a tragic mistake when they sold Roy Rogers to Hardee's who only bought it for location expansion and the roast beef sandwiches went they converted all Roy's to Hardee's. They never expected the RR fan royals and Tried to change but the damage was done and sold all locations. Most to McDonalds. Thankfully the Plamondon family was smart in their franchise and thanks to them Roy's still exists and exactly the same as it alway was. If you had been a Roy's fan. You won't be disappointed. I have a few friends who never has it before and not a fan of their burgers. Their recipe in prep if somehow different and when you bite into one it's the same burger taste it's always been. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing. You will not find a better roast beef sandwich at any other fast food chain Including Arbys. It rivals a lot is restaurant roast beef. It's real. Its always real and Roy's doesn't mess with what's right. This location is great. It's always busy. The people who work here are great. I highly recommend the breakfast biscuit. I have loved and eaten their roast beef sandwiches and fried chicken since the 1980's when they used to air commercials on TV with the actual namesake. I loved and still love their fixins bar!! I like to put extra tomatoes and lettuce. That's one of the main reasons why I keep coming back. Plus they have great customer service, everybody is friendly and accommodating. And their horseradish sauce and BBQ sauce is perfect on their roast beef! I like the fact that I can order my beef medium, no dipping in the au jus. The fried chicken can be hit or miss though depending on what time you go. But the flavor is good. I also get their baked beans, which I like because they're sweet and salty. I went here yesterday on a trip and it was not a good experience. Now I understand that my group was a large group and so I took the experience with a grain of salt, but they messed up 62.5 percent of our orders. Another thing that was quite misleading is that on their menu, it says "something for everyone" but when we saw the menu, they had one vegetarian option. It was to pick two sides as a meal and have a drink. Their soda was also incredibly watered down, and the fries were dull and flavorless. There was also an issue with the women's restroom. The doors didn't close and there were spiders. The staff was also quite rude and laughed at one of my friends for the small size of her lunch, which I'd like to add was their vegetarian option. She had fruit and fries. I've seen many reviews on how amazing this place was but I had such an aweful experience and just couldn't stand to see people be mislead on this horrendous restaurant. My daughter's doctors office is next door to Roy's so we've made it our breakfast treat after every visit. The staff is friendly, restaurant is clean, fried chicken is awesome, breakfast has a lot of variety. I have no complaints. The staff is always super helpful and friendly, which is so rare in a fast food establishment. I notice that a lot of the guests who come always seem to be reliving some sort of childhood memory which makes coming here especially fun but I do love that I am making my own little one's childhood memories after each doctor's visit. :) read more
