I have not been to firehouse in a while. I went because I received a free sub for my b-day. Free sub, oh yeah!! I ordered a hook & ladder (no tomatoes or mustard). And asked the gentleman to please change their gloves to make it. They were so kind about doing that for me! I took it to go and it was still warm when I got home. And my sandwiches was not mushy! I did not catch the gentleman's name who served us but this review will tell it all! We drove here hoping that they would be open on Monday 7/8 knowing how the neighborhood had been hit. To our surprise, they were!! Not only were they open, but the man working was the ONLY man working at the time. I am sure this was because of a combo of his dedication, the staff members unable to come in, and the need for food in the community. As busy as he was, he was kind, humble, clear on his game plan and chatty while also very clearly busy! It was IMPRESSIVE! I had extra water in my car and tried to offer it to him because I saw the hustle in him! The game plan was awesome, take some orders, pause orders, make the orders, start again. Ordered two sandwiches: New York Steamer and Italian. They were awful. The lettuce, tomato, and onion had been heated. There was so much wet stuff on the sandwich--sauce or mayo or whatever they use--the bread was soggy and slippery, and falling apart. The service was bad as well. There is a rack where pick up orders should be placed. My order was put on a counter out of my sight line as I was watching the rack where pickups should be placed, and where the website directs you to go for pickups. Also, the chips were not in the bag as a sign on the pickup rack stated they would be. There were three employees in sight, chatting away, and they were aware I was waiting for my order. read more

I got the Italian- the only thing on it Italian was a single layer of pepperoni and a whitewash of provolone cheese. There was a little bundle of ham on each side that didnt cover the whole side. Disgusting amount of mayo. Ended up having to take the bread off one side because all you could taste was the mayo. I wish this review was a joke but unfortunately it really happened. So we ordered this from DoorDash. We ordered a meatball and an Italian with no tomatoes. When we received the sandwiches we noticed the Italian felt super light. Opened it to find they literally forgot to put ANY meat on it. Had to have DoorDash send for a replacement. Was extremely inconvenient. How does a SANDWICH shop forget the MEAT?! My family ordered online and my husband went to pick up. Having a clear, uncomplicated online order leaves no real room for error on the order, but my Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket sandwich was entirely devoid of cheese, a primary feature, and my husband's order was missing one of the requested condiments. The kid's meal ordered for my son was supposed to come with a Rice Krispies Treat, which was missing, and we received no pickles at all despite requesting extra. We didn't get chips, either, though that much is partly my husband's fault. However, when ordering online, you're prompted to choose what chips you'd like, but reminded to get a cup to serve your own drink. This led us both to assume the chips would be in the bags with the rest of our food. He should have checked, but the ordering process here is misleading. Had this been the first time we'd had a messed up order at this location, I wouldn't be leaving a negative review, but unfortunately, this is at least the fourth time in a row we've received an incorrect order, so I can't just chalk it up to an off night. I pulled up and parked my car. I pulled out my phone to order. While going through the various redirections to the order page, I noticed what appeared to be the only working employee who was sitting out, not more than 15 feet from me, with her side to me, which means I could see her right eye. She Sat on the stoop, industriously chewing on her fingers, working them vigorously through her lips and teeth. I could see this very clearly. Perhaps there was another worker inside, but no one ever came out, and she sat there for a good 10 minutes doing that and nothing else. I kept looking over to see if she had noticed that I had pulled up (she either was ignoring this or was unaware) or if she had stopped eating her fingers. She continued to eat her fingers and was very single minded about it, never once looking up to acknowledge a likely customer parked in the closest spot to the door, observing, that, unless she has damaged peripheral vision, or tunnel vision, she would have noticed. After I put my phone away, I continued to observe. The behavior continued as before, for at least 10 minutes. This was not inspiring confidence in the notion of proper hygiene or COVID considerations. Based on this observation, I gently eased my car out and left. I did restart the motor, which makes a noise, yet she never once looked up. I even checked in the rearview mirror and she was still working on her fingers. I drove away thinking maybe I shouldn't even try to get a sandwich anywhere but inside my own home. After some reflection, I decided I had better share this. read more

I stood at the cash register, with no one in front of me, for 2 minutes and not one of the young ladies standing at or near the cash register greeted me or asked to take my order so I left. Instead they stood there engaging in their own personal conversation. This is the second time I've gone to this location and had a poor experience. The last time I went to this location it took forever to get my food, and it wasn't crowded. So we are going to Firehouse Subs? Yes, sign me up! But really, how can their sauce be sooooo addictive?!! I really like Firehouse because they give you many types of subs to choose from. I usually get their specialty sub "Club on a Sub". It comes with smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, pepper bacon, and melted Monterey Jack. I also usually get "Fully Involved" which means it comes complete with mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a kosher dill pickle on the side. I tend to like hot subs but you can get cold subs here as well. Did I already mention how great their "signature" sauce is? It's a little sweet, a little spicy and has the right kick to accompany their subs. They also offer a nice assortment of other hot sauces that aren't signature, but good options as well. If you sign up for their rewards program you can get your choice of any medium sub for FREE on your B-Day! Hey....I'll take FREE all day! Firehouse Subs is delicious. I have had, on different occasions, the sweet and spicy meatball, smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket, tuna salad, and the jerk turkey. I would personally say the jerk turkey is my favorite. I have not physically visited the store since all of the Covid stuff, but they used to have a HUGE selection of hot sauce that you could add at your discretion and I loved that idea. We are not talking about just Tobasco, Texas Pete, Cholula (which are all good in their own rights and available), we are talking some ass kickin' hot sauces that I enjoyed trying. Been waiting 20 minutes for a sandwich. I picked this place as a normal go-to for quick service for my lunch break. I won't speculate on what the issue is in the kitchen, but something must not ring going right today. They aren't very busy and it is still seeming to take forever. I've heard them apologize to several other customers for the delay. I had other plans during my lunch, but I guess I'll have to take care of those another day. Customers that ordered after me have already eaten . It now appears that they have given my order to someone else . I keep taking another star off for every 10 minutes of waiting while I type this. The staff has yelled questions at me from across the counter asking about my sandwich twice now. I don't ask for much and I'm definitely not rude, but at this point I think a free lunch is in order. Go back and look at your records . Order for Andy- Medium Italian no onion on white. Sounds like they are confused and arguing a bit behind the counter . However, I've been to this location several times, and unfortunately have been dissatisfied each time. The last visit will probably be my last. Although I waited about 15 minutes in an otherwise empty restaurant, my sub looked unappealing, sloppily thrown together and missing several requested toppings. The guy who took my order was very inattentive and didn't seem to care. I didn't make a fuss, but definitely left feeling ripped off. I've been to another Firehouse location and found the food to be good but not great. I was surprised to find this location to be so much better. It seemed very fresh and tasted great. The service was also friendly and quick. The place was clean and well kept. I ordered a New York Steamer and it was the first time I've been completely satisfied with pastrami in Houston. There are some places with pretty good pastrami - Kenny & Ziggy's comes to mind - but even the best of those have a different style than I've been looking for. We got "hooked" on Firehouse a few years ago, largely due to the fact our daughter, who has Chron's and is a very picky eater, just LOVES their subs. The quality of the food is great, but for us, and probably more importantly, is the service we get here. Since we know our daughter will eat well here, we bring her once a month or so, and there is a young man named Ben at this location that makes her feel so special....
