We came here because of their amazing reviews. I have to say that the reviews lived up to the hype. I am so happy when that happens. First and foremost is halal!! Thankfully, the food scene in Houston is so great, that we don't have to settle for mediocre halal food, but this is not that. The customer service was great. I didn't get the name of the girl who took my order, but she was very sweet and helpful. She let me know that getting a combo was a $3 upcharge, and it got us a drink and a fries. I chose a Mexican type orange soda and it was delicious. The fries we got came out cold, but they got us new fries that were nice and hot so and the counter girl apologized for the fries that we got before which seemed hard, old and cold. So no harm no foul. I got the original burger, and it was really good. I like that it had caramelized onions and it just tasted very fresh and like the other of you said a hundred percent grass fed halal meat. We also got the hot chicken sandwich, which my husband preferred, because he liked the coleslaw addition to the sandwich. We also got garlic parmesan wings because of a picture I saw online, and I have to say the picture looked better than the actual wings.They were quite salty. I would not get those again. The establishment looks clean.The customer service was great, and besides the fries mishap, our food came out in a nice orderly time and was fresh and hot. We stopped by Urban Skillet on a Friday evening after our student's basketball game. Overall, it was just okay. The lady at the register was attentive and helpful, offering a few suggestions that we actually went with. We both ordered the spicy burger with jalapeños. My husband got the regular fries, while I ordered the truffle fries with garlic Parmesan. Unfortunately, the meal itself was pretty meh--not bad, just nothing that stood out or wowed us. The ambiance was nice and modern, which I appreciated, and I do like that they're open until midnight on weekends--definitely a plus if you're out late. Would we go back? Maybe not. It wasn't terrible, but there was nothing memorable enough about the food to make it a repeat visit. read more

We were a party of six, 4 adults and 2 kids so we had a variety of food. Service was good, very friendly young woman at the front. The youngest got a kid meal which was a grilled cheese sandwich with French fries. My daughter got the very special burger with macaroni and cheese and an onion ring. It does require a fork to eat. My son got a spicy chicken sandwich which was excellent and I got onion rings. They were very good. My oldest grandson got a burger and the middle grandson got cheese fries. read more

The impossible burger was good but a bit greasy. It had a vegan sauce and the typical burger toppings but the vegan cheese was not available. I've had a lot of burgers in my lifetime. This one was just a regular burger for me personally it was lacking a bit of flavor even with the sauce they add on. I did like the fact that they were halal grass fed burgers --and they were huge. I also tried the Parmesan truffle fries, which were OK a little smaller than I would've liked. The service was good. While I was really tempted by the truffle burger, I'm a sucker for BBQ burgers, so that's what I opted for, and I really enjoyed it. It did not cause me to be overwhelmed with convulsions because it was so amazing, but it was a hit-the-spot burger. I actually really enjoyed the brisket fries too. I almost just opted for regular fries, but I got those for my son so I could at least try some in their OG form. It turns out: fries are much better with brisket and all the fixins. Who knew? We visited at 1pm on a Sunday, and for the first 15 minutes or so, we were the only people in the restaurant. That bummed me out and I intended to include in my review that people need to support this local business! But as it turns out, a massive party of people walked in around the same time, so I feel a lot better about Urban Skillets' prospects. My rating is what it is because there's room to grow, but I'm happy to support more halal restaurants in Houston! They have a few locations established in California, but since this is the first Houston location, it still seems to be getting its feet on the ground. The brand owner was friendly, but service felt a bit mixed. The signage is also hard to see from the street, but I heard they might try to have it fixed so it will be more visible. They have plenty of options on the menu, and their burgers are generously filled and super messy to eat. I opted to try their Original Skillet Burger. It was filled with tasty ingredients like burger sauce and caramelized onions, but I felt that most of the flavor came from the toppings rather than the meat itself, which was almost tough. The burger bun also felt too cool to the touch when I picked it up, which was surprising. They have great marketing, so since their food photos were so beautiful my expectations might have been a bit too high. The sides are pricy, but the portions were generous. My friend really enjoyed the Truffle Banger and the Buffalo Chicken Fries. Interior is spacious and clean, but overly warm on a summer night; music was so loud it was hard to have a conversation. Had dinner here for the first time. Man we have been missing out. This was amazing. We both had the eggcellent burger. 2 good size smash patties, over easy egg, urban sauce, pickles and lettuce on a Brioche Bun. Best burger I've had in a long time. The food was good, we ordered the urban skillet, the wings were good they just really needed sauce they had almost none, the sweet potato fries were good. 1 burger, 6 piece wings, 1 sweet potato fry, 2 waters and 1 soda it came out to be $38. They only have bottled drinks in a mini fridge, no fountain drinks or ice machine which is okay but if you're paying $14 for a burger the least you could expect is some ice to be available. Theres no napkins on the tables or shakers or condiments. It just feels really empty inside. The employee who took our order was nice. Overall the food was good but not enough to come back especially for the price. $1 extra for jalapeños is crazy in a restaurant who doesn't have an ice machine. read more

The guy that took my order was very helpful and they have a variety of burgers made with different types of cheese, toppings, and condiments. The establishment had a nice atmosphere with a menu that includes classic cheeseburgers as well as unique and other gourmet options. It was like $50 for 2-double cheeseburgers, 1 kids single burger, and 1 order of fries ( one double cheeseburger was incorrectly made after we repeated the order 3 times) $9.50 for a kids single meat burger only w/o fries n drink. I was still hungry eating the burger too, which wasn't cool after spending $50 for 3 burgers and an order of fries. The burger was decent but not spectacular. Food was 3/5 in terms of taste, but I will say I want to come back and try them out again now that they've been running for a while. Ambiance is nice. My burger was extremely good. I got a kids burger because every burger is served as a double patty. I don't need that much meat on my burger. It's quite pricey, but the quality was good, and the flavors were on point. The young lady who served me had a great smile, and was extremely polite and nice. So why did I give it three stars? Overpriced, ketchup comes in a small packet, they should at least put bottles on the table or have access to an easier distribution of ketchup if you're going to be a hamburger fries place, no drink machine, no ice, no cups. I decided to order the Brisket sandwich /w brisket fries and my wife ordered the patty melt. The Brisket was extremely dry and bland!! No flavor at all so I spoke with the manager or owner and asked to replaced it with the Eggcellent Morning Burger. Now this burger was much better than the brisket sandwich but still bland/ no flavor and the egg was overcooked. The manager/owner was extremely nice and for that reason alone I would give this place another try! I'm not sure if the cook was having an off day or he just didn't care to make my order correctly. They'll also make disco fries/tots for you with sauce and grilled onions and cheese on them. The sauce was a lot, though, so be ready for that when you order. It's a #ForkSituation. All the food was obviously made fresh and brought out hot as soon as it was ready. So much so that the burgers beat the fries out of the kitchen by a couple minutes. But it all came out quick. No soda fountain or iced tea. Just a cooler with some juices, a couple kinds of canned soda, some flavored bubbly waters, some bubbly waters, and bottled water. The bathroom could have been cleaner but it wasn't gross. And it did have a lota. The people who work here are EXCEEDINGLY nice and friendly. They've also messed up EVERY order I've gotten from here with no discount or compensation. When we arrived, I was told that they didn't have the brisket fries we ordered and they would make something else. He tried to call us but was calling the order number and not an actual phone number. We ended up with a truffle burger, original skillet, and urban fries. My husband and I both agreed that the burgers were a little salty. The fries were nothing special in my opinion. I wish we would've been able to try this brisket fires because it was just everything from the burger on top of fries. Overall the food was ok.
