The best part was the Mac n cheese which was really creamy. I was a bit on the fence on if I like the flavor of the sauce they used though. Portillo's is definitely the experience many Chicagoans have heaped about. The burgers taste like actual burgers--fresh, juicy, and made to order. The fries are cut right in front of you (which still feels like a little flex), and everything comes out hot and fast even when the place is packed. And of course, if you know about the not-so-secret menu, ordering "Animal Style" is basically a rite of passage. What really stands out though is the service. The staff is always friendly, the place is spotless, and the line somehow moves way faster than it looks like it should. It's one of the few fast food spots where you can tell the employees actually take pride in what they're doing. Great burgers, great service, and prices that somehow still feel reasonable in 2026.
