Would not accept my $100 bill. Not the employees fault, everything to do with the owner. Will change my rating if & when I get an apology. Not taking legal currency is completely illegal. Sad that the employees were afraid to take my money. They claim owner doesn't accept because of fakes. They were kind enough to direct me to another business to get change, yeah I'm not doing that. This place is a little on the pricey side for a big sub. Ordered a large Italian sub without sauce and there was something off with the flavor. Tasted like it had sugar in it. Needless to say I won't order that style sub again. It took a while to have the sub made as the employee was more interested in the cowboys football game on tv than finishing my order. But I can't be mad at him, as they have a big screen tv in there which is kinda hard to ignore. read more

The sandwich was excellent! I ask to scan my phone for a free sandwich and for my points. I spent $38. The guy said something was wrong with my phone and it wasn't. So I had to pay for one of my sandwiches and I didn't get points on my app. There also was only one bag of chips on the wire shelf. The customers had to go over to the chip boxes and get their chips. I came here with my husband June 26th I believe it was a Monday night, I ordered a hook and ladder. I believe he got an Italian. The food was great, The employees were friendly, The place was spotless. My only complaint is that it was pretty hot in there. Me and my husband were literally sweating while we ate our food. I could only imagine how the employees felt. The young woman who took my order was sweating herself. Whoever is in charge/ owns this establishment should be ashamed of themselves. We ordered 4 subs and 3 kids meals. They were alright but not worth the price. I could have made better at home. My granddaughter's grilled cheese had processed cheese that was hard. For the price you would think they would use Velveeta cheese slices.And the bell peppers on the steak sub were basically raw. I'm very disappointed. We spent $60.00. I will not go back. when it comes to subs, firehouse is my favorite place to go to. You end up paying about ten bucks for a large sub meal that has chips and a drink but in my opinion it's worth it. Every sub has a name that is associated with firefighting and the environment is okay. It gets really crowded here at lunch time so it gets hard to find a place to sit where it feels like somebody isn't breathing down your neck. So I get mine to go most of the time. My favorite sub is the hook and ladder (fully involved) with those jalepenio chips. At the counter they also have an array of different sauces that you can add to your sub. I personally like the firehouse sauce. I can eat at this place every day and not get sick of it... So enjoy. read more

This place has gone downhill fast. The food has gotten to be terrible, and the staff is about as discourteous as they can be. This is, unfortunately, my last visit. *it got even worse. I am terribly allergic to onions, so I told them it was very important that my sandwich be free of onions. Guess what... It had lots of onions, even though the receipt clearly stated "no onions". Update - Derek did in fact keep his word and made me a BOMB a** lunch. However I am going to keep the stars rating until proven they can keep up the good work on every order from here on out! Thank you Derek for keeping your word and making it a much better experience. Extremely disappointed...the fact that I've had the same issue every time I order here is annoying!! I wish I would have taken a picture because it even states on the receipt my order and the specific items I asked NOT to be added to my food. After I spent time removing all the items that I asked to be left out and ate my food, I called them to notify them of their error. The general manager "Derek" told me "sorry, I've been trying to fix that issue and have been "cleaning house"." It was only then that I had to ask for something to be done and suggested a coupon or gift certificate/ card. I was then told that he as a "general manager" does not have access to those and could just write my name down for a day of my choice to have an item on the menu on firehouse subs! I said that was fine and hope that this is to be true. It is awful that the customer has to suggest something like that in hopes for next time THEY the business can fix THEIR mistakes. They should want to give great customer service and make all customers happy. I am very fortunate to not have a food allergy and check my food to be sure it is correct instead of chowing down! To anyone reading those low rated reviews, let me help clear the air with this wonderful establishment. First, Firehouse is THE BEST place in Jacksonville to Dine-in. @Albee R. you say you had to wait 40 mins for a sandwich? Well you came in on 8/10 that was a Sunday and you came in around 1:08 PM, this is called a 'lunch rush' you may not be familiar with the concept, but as good as this place is, its not surprising that a lot of people cram inside all at once to enjoy it. Do you expect to get home faster in rush hour traffic? No you do not. Second, Firehouse has some of THE MOST friendly staff of any fast casual restaurant in the market today, @Matt G. alright, fair enough you cannot be around onion, did you state to the cashier person that you absolutely and positively cannot have any onion touching your food? or did you simply state no onion? "very important my sandwich be free on onion" doesn't sound the same as "I can die if onion touches my food". Perhaps they would have been more careful to not cross contaminate knowing how serious it was and your 'incompetence in workplace' statement, last I checked we are all human and none perfect. Third, Firehouse Subs is growing, which means business is good, I hate to think that a couple misguided reviews could potentially damage a well reputable business such as this. Try it for yourself, I walked in and received a friendly warm "Welcome to Firehouse" greeting, followed by a "Hello, how can I help you today" I was largely blown away from that alone, I was told if I had any questions to please ask, which I did. Everything that came on my sandwich was explained to me and I enjoyed being able to watch and chat with the staff as I did so. They are super friendly and profession, a low stress and inviting environment is what Firehouse seems to strive so hard to cultivate. Finally, To all the naysayers out there who say the price is to high compared to Subway. Sure, Subway has fresh baked bread, but that is about where the freshness ends, nearly everything else is prepackaged. Firehouse clearly displays their meats in a window fridge right in the front of the store, when I asked about it the reply was, "Yes, we slice our meats everyday". So if you want fresh baked bread, go to Subway. Firehouse Sub IS NOT a bread shop, they are a sub shop and the best one out there for the money. read more
