Craved some dessert, as well as some air conditioning so I stopped in. Luckily, there weren't any customers and I was able to order right away. They had a variety of dessert pies, pot pies, and empanadas. I ordered the last slice of coconut custard pie with a plain ice coffee and sat in the air conditioned cafe to enjoy my dessert. The coffee was pretty good...strong, which I like. The dessert was just ok, I didn't think it was spectacular or anything, just average. The Nutella Cheesecake and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. It's what my wife and I get every. Single. Time. Service is great, staff is very helpful and quick on their feet. If you've got a craving for something in particular, describe it to them, they'll steer you towards some great selections. I have always loved Fireman Derek's experience, but tonight I was beyond disappointed. Both the pie slices we ordered were frozen solid. The grove location was not full of customers and the display case was almost empty. Which is why I'm guessing they had to pull the pies out of the freezer. I've been trying out Fireman Derek's alot, just because there are so many good things! Customer service is always pretty quick, but you can also pay on Postmates and do a pickup. Here are my thoughts on a couple of items I've tried: -Carrot Cake: 10/10, my all time favorite from here. I didn't even like carrot cake until I tried the one from here. It's very moist and a large portion size to split into 2-3 servings. - Salted Caramel Pie: 10/10. Also one of my favorites. It's very gooey on the inside, and not overly rich in sweetness. - Coconut Guava Rum Cake: 8/10. I liked the coconut flavor of the cake, and the cake itself was pretty moist and tasty. But it still doesn't beat the carrot cake. - Red Velvet: 6/10. It's not bad, but just your basic red velvet cake. - Cookies & Cream Cake: 5/10. Not Bad, but also not my favorite. It's a little bit dry and really just tastes only like the cookie part of an oreo. - Cookie Pie Monster: 5/10. It's really overly rich for me, I couldn't handle it. That might be someone's preference, but not mine. - Peacan Pie: 5/10. I love peacan pies, usually they are my favorite. But I think this peacan pie is too gooey for me, I like it a little bit of a stiffer consistency. - Turtle Brownie: 5/10. I like my brownies a little bit fluffier that just falls apart, this one has more of a thicker/harder consistency. I think it being a "turtle" makes it super rich. Not my favorite but my boyfriend orders it every time. - Apple Pie: 5/10. But this one is a personal preference, I usually don't eat apple pie so it's basic to me. read more

You guys... I have been driving by this location for a year patiently waiting for it open. Today was the day. Right off the bat, the location is great. It looks fantastic inside and is a bit bigger than the one in wynwood. The staff is super friendly and they know the pies. The Pies are so delicious and well worth the wait. We went with a few people and got a bunch of different things to share. The Birthday Sundae Pie is absolutely amazing. Tastes just like an ice-cream sundae. The Key Lime pies are great. The Salty Monkey Pie is really good, but the chocolate part is really dense, so make sure you really like chocolate if you get it. The Cookies and Cream pie is heavenly. Light and delicious. Both the Guava coconut rum cake snd the Birthday Cake are worth the slices. Delicious and packed full of flavor. There are also a few salty items such as empanadas and Chicken Pot Pies. All perfect. I have been to fireman Derek's in Wynwood and it was good, but this spot was even better! This place is way more accommodating. They have tables and benches for seating and it is much more spacious. If you're in the mood for some tasty, heavy sweets, this is the place to be! Funny enough, I have yet to actually try their famous pies (on my to-do list) but I've tried their brownies and cookies. Both are equally delicious. The s'mores brownies are probably my favorite followed by the blonde brownies. Even just their regular brownies are delicious! As for cookies, I was pleasantly surprised. I just stuck with an OG chocolate chip cookie and I was blown away by how nice and moist it was, loved that it was the size of my face too! Dare I say, their cookies may actually just beat Night Owl cookies! But that's not all! This place also has savory items like their pot pies! I tried their chicken and veggie pot pies on a separate visit and my oh my....pure deliciousness. I almost feel sorry for not taking photos of anything but it was just too good to delay. I honestly don't have a favorite between the pot pies because they were both equally delicious. Veggie pot pie (in my opinion) usually lack seasoning and flavor, not these though! The slice of birthday cake with chocolate frosting was stale, very dry, and not nearly as tasty as it usually is. If you're ever in Coconut Grove, go to Fireman Derek's! Their bakery items were a feast for the eyes, and if you have a sweet tooth, you'll have a hard one choosing which dessert to order. While their sweet offerings were tempting, I came to check out their empanadas and I wasn't disappointed. They have the freshest and most deliciously and generously stuffed empanadas. When I got there around noon on Thursday, their empanadas were almost gone. Lucky for me, they had a couple pieces left and they had fired up another batch in the oven. Obviously, they make their empanadas fresh. They had three types of fillings, spinach & feta, chicken & beef. I ordered all three of them, but didn't eat all of them at the same time because their servings were bigger than your usual empanada. I ate the whole chicken one and half of the spinach & feta. As I mentioned earlier, they were filled with flavorful generosity, not too salty and the chicken meat was juicy, not dry. The feta & spinach proportion was just right, just enough feta to tickle your tastebuds and spinach to enjoy without the fear of it getting stuck between your teeth! The best part was the flaky pastry that was golden brown and not greasy. I ordered four of the beef to take back home to Tallahassee so that I can share one of the best empanadas I've ever had. I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth in the world so when my friends and I walked pass this Bake Shop it absolutely caught my eye. When I walked in I was greeted with a glass case full of a variety of cakes and immediately around the corner to it was another glass case filled with an assortment of pies and cheesecakes. On the counter are a number of other baked goods too. I absolutely loooooved that they had SO many options of SO many different baked goods! Truly something for everyone. We just moved to the area and Fireman Derek's Bake Shop was recommended to us. We went by yesterday and paid for two pies to be picked up today around 12:30 PM. My wife went in to pick them up and they were ready with the exception that the one coconut cream pie look like someone just sprayed the cream on top and threw some coconut on it. The lemon cream pie had some dollops of cream dropped on top nothing by either one of the pies looked like the pies displayed yesterday when we ordered them. My wife asked why these pies look so bad, and the person told her they ran out of whip cream and haven't mixed up another batch yet. Unbelievable since they had since yesterday to have these pies ready. And why would you go ahead and make a pie like that to begin with when you know its wrong. They said it would be awhile to mix up some more so my wife just took them as they were. Another mistake.
