Truth is I wanted to go to The White Stag but friends felt this was more convenient. Had not been here for five years. Wow. Just a perfect dinner. Totally classic Wisco supper club. Cold night, so nice to warm hands by the fireplace. Integrated bar, so it can be noisey, but Just go with the fun and friendly vibe. Outstanding old fashioneds. Soup AND salad with your meal, and great bread. No relish tray but that is a small criticism and everything was so good you won't even notice. Awesome meats and seafood and specials. You really can't go wrong here. Service was friendly, appropriately paced, and efficient. Prices were excellent considering the quality and experience. Looked forward to first visit, left disappointed, would not return. Wife and I each had 2 old fashions, good, but not much different from other restaurants. Duck won-ton appetizer and French Onion soup very good. Rolls delivered, but no butter. I had ribeye steak which was thin and excessively fatty, disappointing for a supper club. Wife had stuffed shrimp, just ok. Wine prices and selection were good. Many customers were getting lobster or prime rib, so perhaps we just ordered the wrong things. It's hard to do anything well with a menu of this size. I had the steak and scallops. Both were over cooked. The steak was pretty thin and the scallops dry. My gf had the walleye. It all just tasted like it had been frozen before getting cooked. It's was a busy place but pretty average I thought. I wouldn't make the trip from ER again. read more

Had reservations, and seated right away. Great start. Sat for 25 minutes, with no one coming to take our drink or food order. But we had our water glasses refilled twice during this period. It's a small place, and it appeared to be staffed appropriately. We actually stood up to leave when the waitress came over to apologize, she did not know we were there. Strange considering how small this place is. Our drink order was messed up, which was corrected. Steak was grossly over cooked, but we were told it was fine, as it was a lighting issue. So I guess the cook does not know how to or owns a meat thermometer. Plus the prime rib was over cooked. You don't pay that much money for prime rib and steak to have it over cooked. Twice baked potato was a dry waste of money! Flavor less! Oh and their cheese curds you can get out of the freezer section at Mullens Cheese factory. The staff is very nice. But save your time and money, and go else where. read more

There are several can't miss places for the authentic "supper club" experience in Rhinelander and the Fireside Supper Club is one of them. Great horseshoe bar that overlooks the lake and sometimes has a piano/organ player as entertainment...classic. Their entertainers are not highbrow, and I don't want them that way in the NorthWoods...I want classic songs done in a schmaltzy way on a Hammond Organ or electric piano. But that's just the start...but it's a great start. If it's winter, you should try to sit near the eponymous fireplace which makes it super cozy. I love sitting at the bar, having a drink or two, ordering between drinks, and then being shown to your table with the starters already there. Speaking of starters, the french onion soup is fab...get the melted cheese. The fish fry (broiled especially) is always good and we've been very happy with the filet mignon and the roast duck. If you get seated downstairs (especially with kids) on a super busy summer eve. don't feel left out...it's quieter down there and so your kids won't bug anyone and you'll be able to relax and get served quickly. So sad to report. We have visited Fireside a few times and enjoyed the traditional supperclub vibe, but our recent visit was probably the last. We made a reservation because we figured that Veteran's Day would be busy. We checked in and went to the bar to wait for a table. And wait and wait. We watched a few other tables get seated and had patience as it was busy. 45 minutes after we checked in and the hostess didn't acknowledge us and the bartender didn't seem concerned. Two business men walked in, sat at the bar for less than a minute and they were seated at a table. We decided to leave. My husbsnd tipped the bartender and then went to the hostess to point out we had been waiting for 45 minutes. She made the excuse she was waiting for a table. He tipped her $10 and pointed out the recent table that she seated and we left. The point to all this is, you never know who your customers are. Business suits or jeans, all of your guests should be treated with care and respect. I may have been a food critic, or a veteran, or celebrating a special day.... read more

How about the tasty, homemade sides that are preset for your dining pleasure once you are escorted to your table? The perfectly prepared Canadian bluegill and perch, perhaps? We had a group of 13 for dinner. They were fantastic. They combined two tables into one and two wait staff took care of us. The broiled haddock was seasoned well and not overdone. Others had the fried fish. Service was great and they tracked each couples bill accurately. read more

We vacation up here occasionally, and we ALWAYS make it a point to make The Fireside a part of our vacay plans. Always. Swiss, Bacon and Potato soup is STELLAR! Had it with the Shrimps and Lobster Ravioli dinner special tonight with Alfredo sauce... sauce way too thick and processed, wish I would have had the ravs in the soup instead of the sauce, sounds crazy but it would have been mindblowingly amazing! Washing it down with Spotted Cow on tap was absolutely perfect! Five dollars for twenty ounces of the best.beer.EVERRRR. YES! My sister-in-law always gets the prime rib, must be pretty good if she makes it her repeat meal, time after time! Same with the French Onion Soup, my brother-in-law's favorite. Some dishes are quite pricey for the quality, in my opinion... Like the "special" that night, the Shrimp and Lobster Ravioli, tasted and looked like it just came out of the freezer, like what I could buy at the store, and heated up with some canned thick, bland, nauseating "alfraedo" sauce. I was sad to waste my Fireside meal on this, because usually the food it pretty good, and we love coming here, this was just sadly disappointing. Good thing the basket of buns and apple cinnamon mini muffins were there with my delish Spotted Cow on tap, those were the highlights of my meal... But don't expect it to get too fancy up in here, it's just an up north supper club, but it has it's perks, since the Rhinelander area dining is limited. I do like the scenery of it being right on the lake. Quaint, up north atmosphere. I love this supper club. The atmosphere is very warm and comfortable, with wood paneled walls, a fireplace and beautiful views of Town Lake. The service is always prompt and friendly. They have some good beer on tap, including Spotted Cow and the mixed drinks are very generous. Dinner comes with fresh rolls and mini muffins, your choice of soup, followed by a salad and your entree. The steaks and pork chops I have eaten are great and what you get for your money makes it an exceptional value. read more

The fireside supper club is my new favorite place!!! Where to start? It's truly a beautiful establishment. Definitely one of Wisconsin wonderful supper clubs!!! We were treated so well we felt like family. The hostess was incredibly warm and inviting. The server was so accommodating!!! I told her I had a few food allergies and she was nothing but helpful and made wonderful suggestions. Checked on us several times, truly wanted nothing but to give us the best experience possible. First came the wonderful bread which was warm. My husband and I both ordered steak which came perfect, potatoes which were baked just right, and a nice sized salad. Each course was paced perfectly. It was a warm environment in which the owners thanked the employees as they left for the night. The owners came and chatted with us for a bit as our dinner ended, what very kind warm people. You will not be disappointed, you will enjoying a lovely evening here. Can't wait to go back. read more

We've been eating here on and off for the last 20 years and always found it lacking which is a shame because we live nearby. Stayed away for the last couple years but stopped by recently to try again once we learned it was under new ownership. Service was good, but food was still average. Love this place! Every time we're up north, we stop at the Fireside for their Friday Night Fish Fry. Usually a pretty large group 12 people or so. Everything is served family style, coleslaw, potato salad and pasta salad. Fish is always delicious. Drinks are awesome, Old Fashioneds, Golden Cadillac being our favorites. We always get great service. The place gets very busy, so try to get there right at 5pm when they open or you're looking at a one hour+ wait time. read more

Our first experience here. Friday Night, got there at 5:30 a half hour after they open and the place was "slammed". The owner took our name and we were lucky enough to find a spot at the bar. The bartender lady has been there for 8 years and very personable. The drinks were fine, nothing exceptional but certainly passable. We came for the fish fry and after being seated my wife got the regular Friday night fish fry (type of fish unknown) and I had the Canadian perch. This was preceded by potato salad, cold slaw, a pickled pasta salad, warm rolls. The potato salad which is supposed to be homemade was just okay, very much like "store bought", cold slaw was fine but not exceptional and the pickled pasta was a new experience....too much vinegar for my taste but some may enjoy. The perch was heavily breaded...more than necessary and the fish dinner my wife had was okay but not exceptional. Our French fries were just normal restaurant fare except they were unsalted. Fireside offers a broad selection of items and it was interesting to me to see that more folks were ordering steaks and chicken versus the Friday night fish. We'll probably come back but not for Friday night. read more

The bartenders are the worst ever. You have to leave a tip every time you ask for a little service as you wait to sit down to eat. But as we were paying with credit card, we were going to tip as we went to the table. If they think you tipped too little, they ignore your entire party as if you don't exist. And then they try to double dip, by then putting your bar tab on the diner tab and collecting a portion of the tip intended for the food service, (which was great). And then they make you order your dinner while sitting (and standing for some in our party) at the bar. Standing elbow to elbow at the bar with a 5 page menu and ordering your meal from a waitress is not our idea of a nice night out. Food was fine, but we live only 5 miles from the place and will never return to visit those rude and greedy bartenders. read more

After 1 hour and 45 mins of waiting we where still not served ! It took 25 mins to get us our soup after they brought out salads, then they get us ONE drink in the hour and 45 mins !! Waitress kept telling us we where next ,then I asked next after who ? She responded that they have 56 people in the basement to get served first !! Thats fine but maybe relay that info to my family before we wait for an HOUR AND 45 MINS !! We where told the wait would be 10 mins for a table. Soup was good didn't get to try the food but we will never go back and will tell everyone we know to stear clear !! Horrible sevice to say the least. read more

The food was delicious from the salad to the soup (French onion you have to get it with cheese on top it's the best ) to the entrees. We had the prime rib and the filet mignon and the flavor was great !! The restaurant is small and we visited during slow season ....I can only imagine how busy the fireside is during busy season !! Dined there Monday evening. Typical supper club atmosphere. Old fashioneds were good. I ordered the tenderloin, medium. It came well done and dry. I did not send it back as I was someone else's guest and did not want to appear ungrateful. Soup and salad were fine but the fries were typical, pale from the bag variety. Service- meh. Food - meh. I get the ambiance of a supper club but you can't skate by on a folksy basis anymore. Food needs to be good and service as well or I might as well drive to wausau and go to a chain with a predictable yet above meh outcome. read more

food was okay,,service was slow but the busser did an awesome job,i had the prime rib is was about 1 inch think down to paper thin on the bottom ,the ribs had no flavor other then the BQ sauce,,they don't tell you when they offer you the french onion soup there was an upcharge,another problem i have is that they place the tray jack at the end of table that is NOT your table so you have people breathing all over your food sorry but that's gross,, we won't be back for these reason's, cut your prime rib evenly and season your food and move your tray jacks around read more

1st time here and it wasn't bad...this was one of the only places we could find that wasn't closed on a monday/columbus day. We were sat right away....You get a ton of food for the amount you pay. We ordered the veggie app to start and it was good. I was expecting it to be bigger but it actually ended up being perfect with what was to come. There were 5 people with our party...4 adults and a child. Our waitress was suuuuper nice...like the best service I have ever recieved. The food was okay... We did wait quite a while but we did have a bigger order. My sister and I ordered the pasta primavera and I wasn't a huge fan. I am a big chicken eater and there really wasn't many options besides the 1/2 chicken and the pasta. ALOT of steak options. The pasta primavera tasted like one of those freezer lunches just a larger portion...wasn't bad...but wasn't good. Veggies we just like steamed veggies you buy in the freezer section...same with the chicken...I actually ended up picking out all the chicken because I didn't like it... Before your meal you do receive dinner rolls and i think the were little carrot muffins...we got soup (cheddar broccoli) which was pretty good and their salad was pretty good. I could have stopped there and been good. The waitress was really sweet to my daughter who ordered the pizza and it seemed like it was just two pieces of frozen pizza tossed on a plate...If i was the owner i would rethink the cooks and revamp the menu...wait staff is incredible. I've read some reviews with problems with the bus staff...seemed like the waitresses were bussing their own tables. Decor is a bit dated but was very comfortable. We only ordered 2 bar drinks first on was really good...then we ordered an old fashion and she asked a ton of questions how we wanted it...i thought there was only one way... Not 100% sure i would go there again...if i did it would be because of the location and servers only would only get soup and salad. read more
