Though the treatment path was the same (tooth had to be extracted on my 19 m/o), the office visit and overall atmosphere was completely reassuring and washed away all of the stress. The staff, from the dental assistants to the dentists themselves to the front desk, truly made what had been a source of stress and anxiety completely manageable. They were kind, reassuring, patient, and extremely thorough. I am absolutely ecstatic that we found them and am truly just so grateful for the care they provided. Looking forward to saying hi to them again in a few months and establishing a regular check in--something that is so hard to achieve in dentistry.

However, I have given this practice several days now to follow up and attempt to respond to my concerns and they have not. I went in for an initial appt and was not clearly informed that I would not have a cleaning. They told me it would be $320 out of pocket for the first appt including full xrays (they never asked if I had xrays done in the last year or if I wanted them done - looking back I would have gotten some sent from my last dentist). They gave me a tour of their many exam rooms and only one dentist - which made me question the quality of their care. The hygienist was struggling with equipment that was not working properly and after explaining that I have a phobia of vomitting and don't like feeling like I may gag, it took a solid 45 minutes of xrays to get it done. She was doing the best she could but it was a really awful circumstance and she was struggling to keep her cool. There was no problem solving or attempt to move me to a different room. The dentist was informed of the issue and seemed only minimally interested in noticing it or fixing it. Next the dentist came in and roughly pushed his fingers into my mouth attempting to put his finger down my throat despite my saying I did not like or want him to do that. He didn't explain why he needed to do so (I have never had a dentist do this before) and stated he would do it when I wasn't paying attention. He then proceeded to quiz me about anxiety and seemed to be making some judgments about what was wrong with me and handed me some information about a tedx talk but didn't share what it was about or how he felt it related to me. Later I went home and watched it and it referred to people with tongue issues, breastfeeding, posture, swallowing and snoring, which I do not relate to AT ALL. I am not sure what he felt my problem was - I asked but he seemed to have his own agenda hidden in his mind which he did not communicate to me. I also didn't ask for support with anxiety (I am a psychotherapist and am clear and comfortable with the symptoms I experience). It was clear he needed to feel intelligent but failed to get to know me before diagnosing me with issues that were out of his scope of practice. It was super judgey and condescending. The lack of clarity was confusing as well. Then they ushered me to the front and said I would come back for a cleaning. When I explained to them that I didn't have clarity that I wouldn't get a cleaning, I got some defensiveness and some apologies. I explained that I felt swindled into their "membership plan" bc I had just paid $320 and didn't even get my teeth cleaned, just a horrid experience. Financially, it would have made sense to sign up for that deal, now that I had already sunk $320 into my care there, but I didn't want to return and felt I had just wasted a bunch of time and money. I feel like you should be able to consult with a dentist first before feeling like you are committed. This dentist and system made me feel I had no choice - no voice or say. I asked to speak to the dentist or someone and by the time they finished loudly sharing my concerns in the back office and finally returned to touch base with me 10 minutes later, I was crying. I explained that I didn't have the emotional bandwidth to discuss it in the office right then and there. The dentist said he wanted to resolve it and I said I just needed to leave at that point. They didn't offer to reduce or waive my fee, just let me go ahead and pay in full and leave crying. I would have expected that if they really cared to resolve the issues, they could understand that I was too overwhelmed to talk in that moment and that they should follow up by phone or email later that day or the next day. I feel like this dentist is focused more on making money and feeling valid as an expert than he is in his integrity and care of patients as a dentist. Oh - and they use business sales tactics to gain 5 star reviews.

The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Burns and her assistant was great when I went in for my initial exam and when I went for my cleaning my dental hygienist (sorry, I forgot her name) was also wonderful. The place was very clean and they had up to date technology. I'm so happy I found my new dental place! Thank you everyone and I'll see you guys in 6 months for my next cleaning.

My new dentist even told me that the fillings I had were low-quality and poorly done, which caused deeper internal cavities and more long-term damage. It honestly felt like they cared more about making money than giving patients proper, lasting treatment. I will say the front desk lady, the hygienist, and the other staff were always nice to me -- but the actual dental work was cheap, rushed, and nothing I'd ever trust again. Their kindness doesn't change the fact that the quality of care was terrible and ended up hurting me in the long run.

They really LOOK FORWARD to going to the dentist especially because of the PRIZES and everyone is super friendly and gentle. My kids have been going here since it was Little Britches and it has only become better since Dr. Jennifer Rubin took over the practice. She has a very calm manner and I love the way she talks directly to my kids to explain to them what she is doing during an exam. It is fun (there are clouds hanging from the ceiling) and the space has big windows all around, so a sunny beautiful light filters into the rooms. The chairs are pink, there are games in the lobby, and there are tons of kid-friendly toothpaste and fluoride flavors. They even have a kid-size panoramic x-ray machine. I learned today at Dr. Rubin even does expanders for kids with Invisalign (early ortho work). They take Delta Dental Insurance and they have laughing gas available for the kids who need it.

Dr Mertz' office in Longmont is very modern and the staff professional. He listens well and has empathy for his dental patients like myself who may have extreme anxiety before & during treatment . There is never a rushed feeling during treatment -he lets the novocaine do its job before drilling . He uses nitrous oxide to help me relax . He explains what he is doing & he & his assistant praise me too during the procedure which gives me confidence . During long procedures he makes sure that I get a bathroom break . I don't dread getting dental work like I used to !

I went in for an exam, for an implant and after which, was given a referral to an oral surgeon. I questioned why that they made the initial appointment, a week out and charged for an emergent exam, as well as didn't suggest to go to an oral surgeon. 500.00 for the appointment, that did little for the problem, outside of profiting the dental practice. I have called my insurance carrier to make a formal complaint, also I called Molly Perra at the Colorado Dental Association, and will file a written complaint. I would have written BBB, however Mertz is not a member, understandable so. There should be no excuse for fraudulent, unethical practices, especially when dentistry is a needed service.
