I usually love Fireworks. I ordered tonight for takeout. Now I know the food quality can change a little going into to go boxes. But this was incredibly disappointing. The crab dip was way too fishy tasting. The pretzels were hard and looked like they had just been microwaved. My stir fry had no flavor and my husbands meal was lacking flavor as well. Just overall very disappointing and makes me not want to go back at all. read more

I have not been here in awhile, and perhaps that is why I feel my last visit this evening was such a shame. I use to come here regularly because I had such a wonderful first experience, and while every visit after could not capture the lightning in a bottle experience of that first time, I never left disappointed until today. To begin with, the food as a whole is not bad. The flatbread we had was fantastic, and my partner was more than pleased with their burger and mac and cheese they ordered. The issue was with my own food and high expectations. I was very disappointed with the New York strip steak with peppercorn brandy sauce I ordered. The sautéed broccoli was cold and limp by the time it hit the table, the steak was mostly flavorless and over cooked, and the sauce lukewarm, thick and generally without flavor. I want to stress again it was not bad, but it was the first time I paid for a meal from here I thought I could perform better myself for far less a price. The worst part of the experience was unfortunately the service. I hate saying this because as a server myself in the past I understand the difficulty of the job and generally give servers a generous leeway. But because of this experience perhaps I could not help but feel very spited in the hour we were there. Except for taking our order and dropping off our food, the three separate times I found myself in need of refills, the check, or other, I myself had to reach out and all but beg to get a servers attention (not even the server who I believe was in charge of our table mind you, but the girl in the section over!). I had to watch the servers pass us by, talking with each other, chatting with other tables near us, or generally walking around with a lack of things to do because of it being later in the day and a Thursday. The interactions when they occurred were not unpleasant I do want to say, but the lack of attention very quickly became increasingly aggravating. I understand even the best people and places will have their off moments, and I do not have the ability to come to fireworks enough to determine if this one poor experience is indicative of a general loss of quality. But the experience was such a disappointment after going out of my way to come here for a special occasion, that I would be remiss if I did not post my experience here. Perhaps this is simply the curse of excellence, the higher the expectation has been set, the more bitter the failure tastes. read more

It will be some time before I ever go back here. Went here with friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. Service was super slow. We ordered and it took quite some time for our food to come. When our food finally came, four people's food was incorrect. When two women both had the crab cake salad and noticed one salad had one crab cake and the other salad had three, they inquired. The waitress said "oh I think one fell off". And then looked at the one lady and asked her to take one of her crab cakes OFF of her plate and give to the other lady! Really?? The other two ladies wedge salads were wrong and she again said can u just swap the chicken to the other plate even though the salad had been eaten off of. It was their mistake the dressing was incorrect but wanted the ladies to make the changes. Long story short, I would b hard pressed to recommend this place or go back any time soon. We dined with a party of 10 at 6pm the day after a very busy holiday and had no problem getting a table. Everyone's order was accurate and delicious from the burgers, salmon, ribs to the coke a cola cake dessert. Our waitress Jillian was excellent, checking on us frequently and keeping our glasses full. It's been a while since we've been to Fireworks. We visited on a weeknight and were surprised to see it so busy (that's a good sign!). We had a larger group expected and were seated at the round table in the middle of the restaurant. We weren't an easy group as we arrived at different times but our server took it all in stride and checked in each time a new guest sat down so no one was without a drink. Despite being a large group, our meals were delivered in a timely manner and none of us had to wait as the servers all pitch in to help deliver food. Our food was plated well, served at the perfect temperature, and was delicious! The menu has been trimmed down making it easier to view and make a selection. The offerings are quite nice and the prices are competitive. The restaurant is clean and inviting and the staff are welcoming. We can't wait to return! read more

Sarah...with an H...you are the best server. Outstanding food. Starters: Asiago Crab Dip with awesome wonton crisps, Wood-fired Pretzel Sticks with beer cheese and mustard. Early dinner: 17 yo had Margarita Pizza; 77 yo had Crabcakes App with Carrot Jalapeño bisque; 48 yo hubs had Ribeye (as suggested by Sarah) with Smashed Potatoes and the delicate "on special" green beans; 45 yo me had Backdraft Brisket (also recommended by Sarah) with spicy BBQ, Cheese and Mac and those green beans. All the food was FANTASTIC. Topped it off with shared cheesecake with raspberry coulee. The best part for me was Sarah bringing over some tasters of the winter haze seasonal craft beer with citra hop. Awesome! I started with the brown, hubs mango IPA. Great. MIL said the Pinot was on point. Other than the fireplaces all over the place...so nice for February in NE...the most surprising thing was the music GenX rock and roll...we couldn't help but throw up some goat horns when GNR came on. Recommended by the Kat and Nate at Fairfield Inn and Suites Lincoln SE. And a little before you go eat, hit up Kevin's Prehistoric Car Wash (especially on the weekend) you just might see a dancing Abominable Snow Man armed with a water gun. EPIC all around. We stopped in Fireworks on a Thursday for happy hour. It was nice to get $2 off pints and appetizers, so we ordered a couple of each. Our server was prompt and I cannot fault the service provided. The beers were tasty as well -- if you like Empyrean Ales brews, you know what to expect in this regard. However, I cannot recommend the food that we were served. The Firecracker egg rolls had very little flavor; additional salt was needed just to get anything going. The flatbread was a little better, but not much. Again, it felt like someone in the kitchen wasn't tasting correctly when the dishes were prepared. When brought to the attention of our server, she took care of the issue, which was much appreciated. So wanted to enjoy this date night restaurant but nearly everything was a miss. The mushrooms on the steak tasted canned and barely seasoned and frankly just kinda gross, the red potatoes weren't cooked enough, they were crunchy not soft but at least they were seasoned well. The Prime rib was solid and the star of the meal, really the only thing that was good. Oh and the spice of life drink was yummy a fun mix but a very light pour on whiskey. The waitress clearly saw we had both scrapped the mushrooms off of the steaks but didn't ask about it or the untouched chowder - it was pretty much mashed up potatoes in a cup, I know chowder should be thick but this had crossed over into sludge. I ordered a steak and it came out extremely small only 6 oz or so and it was way to chewy. The crust was overcooked and the inside was undercooked, a truly impressive feat. This should be a 3.5 star review if it was allowed. Bourbon chicken came highly recommended by the GM (who is super friendly) but wasn't really our cup of tea. Kids meals come with entree, side, drink and dessert -- they loved the "mud" (ice cream, cookie crumbles and gummy worms). Kids 4 oz sirloin was extremely small. GM was great serving my husband a beer flight. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He's the reason we would come back again and try something else. You should go, too. It's a nice place. read more

Stopped in here for a business dinner on a Tuesday evening. We had a decent size room that accommodated about 30 people. Overall the room was great and the staff was friendly though they were a bit slow and many of us went without drink refills. The food was good. We tried several appetizers, sampled all the desserts and I had the brisket entree with broccoli and red potatoes. Overall I doubt I'll come back on my own but for what the place is, it was decent. We have been regulars here since it was in the Haymarket. 2-3 visits/month. It has good American food with a nicer ambience than most steak places but very reasonable prices. Not much by way of shellfish, but the salmon is good. For a while, the beef was not being cooked correctly (overcooked rare or undercooked medium well), but that problem was solved in 2022, and now it is consistently correct. Everything we have ever eaten there is good-to-great, and the prices are very reasonable. They have excellent seasonal soups, and the French onion (year-round) is to die for. I also highly recommend the black and blue burger, the prime rib, and the brisket in particular. Good cole slaw and wedge salad. I wish they had more keto-friendly sides (only cole slaw and the inevitable broccoli). It is pretty loud at the tables or on the indoor patio, but most of the place consists of high-backed booths, which are great. They also seem to keep servers for years, which is a good sign that they are treating their employees well. They have a rewards program. read more

Oh man this place is sooo good!! I had the chicken panang with steamed broccoli and coleslaw. Lemme tell ya, that coleslaw is AMAZING!!!!! The chicken was wonderful as well as the broccoli. That said, we had the crab cakes for an appetizer and was not disappointed but the quality doesn't properly reflect the price. My gf had the chicken salad sandwich with the smashed potatoes and again a high five for the sides!!! Those smashes potatoes were excellent. Fireworks is from the same folks that brought Lazlo's to Lincoln, which means you can order a delicious Empyrean Ale to go with your wood-fired meal. It was formerly located in the Historic Haymarket, until Lazlo's expanded into that part of the building. Instead of Lazlo's beer bread, Fireworks serves a cake-like cornbread. I have been there a handful of times and have always enjoyed my experience. The building was built to be eco-friendly, and it's beautiful. To accommodate smokers in Lincoln (which has a city-wide smoking ban), there is a huge enclosed patio with stone fireplaces to keep you warm in the winter. I was there for their soft opening a couple years ago & got to try a little of everything. The creme brulee' was yummy. It's a good place for a dinner date or a group, & I believe they do call-ahead seating. read more

Stopped here on our way through town and the food was really good! But the service was even better! I ordered a prime rib and decided i wanted it cooked a little longer, they had to make a whole new one due to COVID which made me feel awful! But they were MORE than willing to do so. They rushed it and it was perfect. The manager came out and asked if everything was ok and even took the prime rib off our ticket, which she absolutely did not have to. I ordered it medium rare and it was just a little too squiggly for me, but not their fault at all! The crab dip was one of the best things I've ever tasted and prime rib and potatoes were perfect. We have been eating at Fireworks twice/month for the past year - along with another couple. The food/service has deteriorated to the point of no return for us. Last night my husband ordered a filet, med. well - it came out pink, barely warm, the baked potato was cold (the server did bring out another one), our friend ordered a rib eye steak which was lukewarm and not cooked as ordered. I ordered the club sandwich which came out with bacon, lettuce and I believe a slice of tomato (it was paper thin...), our other friend just boxed up her meal to take home and try to salvage it. I ordered a drink which came out with possibly two slight sips of alcohol. I asked the server to please take it back, he brought it out with no more alcohol but the glass was topped off with ice - it was absolutely insulting!! Each of our bills were over $60, which is acceptable if the meal is edible and none of ours were. The best part of the meal was my coleslaw. Our server never came over and asked how our meal was, we saw him again when he brought over our bills. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, it has degraded to a minus 1 star! read more

Bland as bland can be. We shared a 16 oz. prime rib, totally lacking in flavor, and served lukewarm with equally chilled jus. The disaster was a peach crème brulée, a soggy mess of custard under a coarse and grainy sugar coating. This was totally unacceptable, and we told management. They were mildly apologetic, blaming it on Covid - what else?? Let's not blame it on incompetence! In their defense, they didn't charge us for the dessert nor for our second round of drinks (beer and wine). But still...a sorry excuse for "cuisine." I ordered the 12 ounce ribeye medium with roasted red potatoes and sauteed veggies. i chose the Cauliflower/Gorgonzola soup over a salad and was not disappointed at all. I have been going to Fireworks since it first opened downtown and it was "fine" but never my favorite. Then it moved into my neighborhood on the east side of town. Still not my favorite, but it has a kid's menu that my youngest enjoys so I still go on occasion. Or I did, but honestly never again. At most restaurants I can find a "go to" meal that is good enough. I have yet to find that at Fireworks and I've had 90% of the menu over the last 5 years in my quest to find SOMETHING palatable. Here are my last 3 experiences: 1) cheeseburger cooked medium well...they served a charcoal briquette that was raw and cold on the inside 2) barbecue chicken pizza...easily 1/2 bottle of sauce (the cheese kept sliding off it) and chicken that had obviously sat in the cooler a few days and 3) the Italian beef...I'm not sure if it was meant to be hot beef or cold beef because it was both. Also, I had to trim about an ounce of fat off the meat. The server saw the fat and did not inquire about it. The service is good enough, it's a great building, and it's clean. The problem is in the kitchen and existed before Covid hit. I don't know if it's simply not to my taste or poor menu development or poor quality control. I'd love to see them serve food of the same quality as their sister restaurant. I know if I said something they would comp my meal. But I don't want free food. I want to enjoy my meal without having an experience the necessitates speaking to someone about the food quality... and in truth it's my fault because I keep going back. read more

Fireworks has a great program to assist people to earn free meals over time. All a person needs to do is get one of their membership cards. The atmosphere allows for good discussion as it is a low light restaurant and quiet. It is also.an atmosphere that allows for private discussions. The food has always been excellent and the staff knows their menu items well. They are always helpful with their food. They can tell you what's on each dish. The food comes out quickly and prepared as ordered. The only drawback is at times they do not have what a person wants to eat so a person should have a second option in mind. read more

My Salad was great, my rotisserie 16 oz prime rib was the worst steak or prime rib I've ever had. It had absolutely no flavor. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out just a little rarer than that, but I'm ok with that. Probably won't be a next time for me. read more
