I worked for this company for 6 months and finally quit! Take it from someone on the inside, take your vehicle anywhere else! These people would screw up a 3 car funeral! They tell you that you need repairs that are not needed. They leave your drain plug loose. I warned the current manager charge a customer for a fuel system service that he knew hadn't been done. Nearly had to pull a customer off of him for quoting a customer $695 for repairs and when the man came in the manager told him his bill was almost $1,200. This was an everyday occurrence! The regional manager told me he didn't care what we sold customers but to just sell anything! He said selling something kept the Boogie Man away! The new regional manager told me to put my Big Boy Pants on and go sell something! I almost curb stomped him! They pad their reviews to cover up the truth! I documented over 15 instances of wrong doing and misrepresenting repairs. The icing on the cake was the Quote, Lead Technician was regularly found asleep in a car or underneath a vehicle. I even have several pictures of him snoozing! They left the oil drain plug loose on the son of a UT Quarterbacks truck and it lost 2 quarts of oil and put Dawn dishwashing liquid in the wiper reservoir and caused it to clog up and quit Before he made it home! I usually have a great experience at Northshore. I even sent my children there for oil changes when they were in town. This will be a long post, but only for providing the full story to explain my rating: Previously, I went to the Solway or Farragut locations; but, after having a horrible experience at the Farragut location, I decided to try Northshore. Every experience I had until last week was great. I went in for my last oil change on the 5 pack deal. Once the oil change was complete, I left and in less than 1 mile the check engine light appeared (it was not on previously). I figured I could take my vehicle back for a quick check. The technician came back and said they cleared the code since they could not figure out the issue. I drove off and this time at approximately the same distance (less than 1 mile), not only did the check engine light appear but the oil pressure light, as well. I drove my car a little further thinking that the lights might turn off. They did not. I went back to the Northshore location and told them that I now have 2 lights that appeared. I was then told that the last location that performed the oil change "manipulated" an oil filter to fit my vehicle and I also had the wrong oil filter housing. I immediately told them that their location was the only one to change the oil in my vehicle since the oil filter housing was replaced in Jan 2023 and I had experienced no issues until NOW. They told me to take my vehicle back to the shop that originally replaced the oil filter housing; however, I did not feel safe driving the vehicle with both the check engine and oil pressure lights illuminated. Brandy (location manager) called a tow truck for me as transportation to the other shop (located in Corryton, TN). When the other shop looked at the housing they immediately found out it was CRACKED!!! I called the Northshore location back to reveal the issue. Brandy was not there so I spoke with another associate. He told me that if I brought the vehicle back they would fix it for "free". I told this associate that I no longer trust their shop and that I also believe they cracked the housing (which is why I believe the lights appeared after driving away from their shop) and that they should have checked more closely before I left. He told me the regional manager (I believe his name is Kevin) would call me later to discuss. I can not confirm that he ever called because, if he did, I did not answer nor did he leave a voice mail asking me to call him back. I hope this information helps someone from experiencing the same issues I had at this shop last week. Problems like this can be made at any mechanic. I should have figured if I was allowed to drive away without without being told about the "manipulated" filter then other serious issues existed since the check engine and oil pressure lights were illuminated. I wish I had taken photos of the "manipulated" oil filter as evidence. I also wish I had looked closer at the filter housing before I left this location. I probably would have noticed the cracked housing and not had to spend almost $1000 to fix a problem that NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!! read more

I had problems with my brakes and I normally wouldn't get my car fixed here but I couldn't drive very far. They told me I needed a bunch of things that i didn't, (rotors, a new roof) and even when I told them specifically that I only wanted the bare minimum, there were still things I didn't NEED. It was a little confusing to me because I didn't know if I could trust what I was told that I needed. It was helpful when I was actually shown the things that should be fixed though. Only go here if you have an idea of exactly what you need. This review was made when this shop now has the name Service Street. TL;DR good for quick, essential labor, but I would recommend going somewhere else. I don't know if this place is trustworthy or not. read more

At, I thought they were pretty stellar. The first time I took my car in, I knew I needed new struts, and they did a fine job replacing them. However, about six months or so later I took my car in again. I needed them to look at the AC, clutch and a weird vibration. The guy I talked to (Jim or Tim or something like that) said whoever had put the struts on did a bad job at tightening them. I let him know they had put them on, and I was looking at the paperwork. He informed me that it wasn't in the system, so they didn't do it. I stopped with the conversation at that point. Then, he said the clutch and AC were great. I thought that was good news and maybe any issues were my imagination. Turns out they gave an improper diagnosis on both the clutch and the AC. Unless you want to know how badly they screwed up their diagnosis, you don't really need to read any further. Eventually, the clutch started slipping badly and never felt like it was in gear and the AC "that was fine" was acting up, still. It would sometimes work, sometimes not work and sometimes work eventually. I didn't take it back to First Choice, because of the strut argument and an issue with another car they had worked on. The new place I took the car told me this was the worst clutch they'd ever seen and they were afraid to drive it. They showed me the parts they had taken out and they were in really bad condition. The flywheel was badly, scratched and looked gouged. The other part with the tensor springs looked like a rotor on a car that had been driven without brake pads for a tear or two, the grooves were so bad, it looked like a metal vinyl EP, and the springs jiggled and were loose and just not good. Now, with the new clutch, it drives like a new car! As far as the AC, a mechanic who had "fixed" it in the past, put the wrong size condenser on it and there is an electrical switch that wasn't functioning properly. read more

If i could give First Choice Automotive on South Northshore in Knox. TN a zero outta 5 i would. This place is terrible. We took our daughters Nissan Maxima there for an estimate. They happily gave us an appt. Then we get a call with the inflated repair and labor cost. They were going to charge double the cost of the repair shop at Rocky Hill we chose. But, thats not the worst of it. The worst of it was they charged us $200 for the estimate. Had we known that when we made the appt we would not have taken her car there at all!!!!!!! $200 folks jus to look at it. DO NOT take your vehicles to this automotive shop. They shld tell people up front how much for an estimate!!!!!!!!! read more

Went to get my oil changed and the guy (forgot his name) comes back and tells me that my oil is leaking almost half of what my car holds and that the severity of it was an 8/10. I got really worried, as most people would, and asked how much it would be to get fixed and they told me it was going to be $2000. I then called my boyfriend and he searched online to see how much the part and labor for the leak is roughly around. They were charging me almost triple what it actually costs. On top of that, the guy that greeted me in the parking took a picture of my license plate. The staff was kind but definitely not trustworthy. I would not recommend. read more

Bought their Platinum Package because I had several vehicles that needed the oil changed. First two no issues, although the time was longer than informed. Just brought my 3rd vehicle in and dropped the key off in the overnight drop box for an 8:00am change. Walked (in the rain) to pick it up at 1:00pm and they can't find the paperwork because they never serviced it. 5 hour oversight is a bit much. The owner does not live up to his word.. this place is in a neighborhood area which should never be.. owner told us the are only open till 7pm and here I sit at almost 9pm and they are still working. The owner told us they would not have a parking lot full of cars at night and weekends and it is always full of cars.., obviously if the owner cannot keep his word to local homeowners I cannot imagine what they do to the cars they fix.. not trust worthy at all! read more

Please, please, buyer beware and do your homework. We used to bring our cars here for service because of the convenient location. One night, my car broke down the way home from work. I had it towed to First Choice because it was close. The part that required replacing had an unusually high price. My husband checked the cost of the part online with several sources and discovered First Choice marked the same part up nearly 450%. I can certainly understand making a profit, but when we asked them to look into their pricing and sourcing, we got guilty looks and blank stares. As a regular customer, I expect honesty and straightforward pricing. If you not in a bind like we were, check pricing of replacement parts online before they do any work for you. read more

My SUV was clicking when I pushed the start button. It would do that 3 or 4 times then it would start. I was told I had a bad neutral safety switch by First Choice Auto and as my battery was older it should also be replaced...all at a cost of around $1000. I told them I'd have to think it over, went home and researched on the Toyota forum. It was pretty obvious to me that a bad neutral safety switch wasn't likely. I looked the part up at NAPA and it was 1/2 what First Choice was going to charge me. I took the car to Auto Zone the next day. The amperage was too low on the battery. They put in a new battery and the problem was solved. I tested to make sure the neutral safety switch is operational and it is. Why would they not test the battery first? I was told the mechanic used a "decision tree" to identify the problem. I asked about the double price for the part and then was told they could match the price I found. The person was really evasive when I asked why I wasn't given the lower price to begin with. My research and Auto Zone ended up fixing the SUV for $151. I will never trust another mechanic without researching the car's issue and cost of parts again. read more

Great customer service, friendly staff, quality work, and fair, honest prices and explanations for all things needed on my vehicle. Chris, John and the team spent nearly two days diagnosing an electrical issue on my vehicle, and after determining it was a loose battery terminal, did not charge me for the diagnosis. This was after paying the Hyundai dealership $100 to tell me that I needed a new ECU, at a cost of over $1800. Turns out it was just a loose battery terminal. Will go back again for any and all future car repair and maintenance needs due to the honesty, communication, and care when it comes to my vehicles! read more

My brakes were making a weird noise while driving and coming to a stop. Like a grinding noise. So I took it in and within a few hours they had figured out the issue. I needed some new brake drums and bushings and a couple other things. They explained to me how they had been rusting and could cause major problems if not fixed. I blame numerous Chicago winters for the rust and damaged. They were able to get the parts the next morning and I had my car by end of day. Car has drove great since the repair and the noise is gone. Very professional and nice to deal with. Would recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Over-priced. Their "free" coupons (for example "Free" air conditioning system check) is just to get you in the shop for the paid work. Although its location is convinient for folks who live near Northshore drive, a recent brake job cost 20%+ more than comparable shops in Knoxville. Buries hidden charges (shop supplies account for ~10%) to add to the overall cost. The vendor response - "we use OEM parts" doesn't justify the additional costs. (Dealerships are quite competitive too). Recommend checking prices with local auto shops before signing up for work. read more

I have been completely taken advantage of at the Northshore location! I took my 2010 Volvo s40 in for a headlight repair on Aug 31st. $300 dollars later, I had a new "pig tail" and this was supposed to fix the issue. Two weeks later, headlight was out again. I took it back, and was told I needed an entirely new headlight, and it would be $300 more dollars. They told me they tried to put a new bulb in, but darn, didn't work. It didn't feel right, so I left and didn't repair it. So a month later, and still a bum headlight I went back in yesterday, 11/7/18. There was an entirely new staff, which has happened every single time I have gone in. (I've been in 4x, earlier for an air conditioning fix, which was good, still works) Yesterday I was greeted by a grumpy guy, that first wanted to argue with me over which dates I have been in. So once that was established, he said he would order an entire headlight and call me back. Never looked at my car, not even from the window. Really? Without even looking at it? At this time, I have not received a call back from him. This was the worst experience I've ever had with someone that is in the customer service business. He was rude, condescending and overall nasty for no reason. This is NOT the worst part. I took my car to Firestone in Farragut today, and they put a new bulb in it and guess what- IT WORKS! They found nothing wrong with my light. I almost shelled out hundreds more to this place, so actually I want to thank the grouchy man behind the computer for ultimately saving me a lot of money. This place promised to be a good neighbor, keep the place up, put door on dumpster. Maintain landscape that we would be proud to have then as a neighbor, no cars parked outside overnight. ALL LIES! Car's, equipment, trailers all parked outside, landscape partly mud & dirt, rocks piled up in parking lot, tree's & bush branches that we cut 2 months ago still just lying there. NO door on dumpster.
