Bad experience with First Floors and their Vice President, who may also be the owner's son, Damon Dobson. We were looking to have over 1,000sf of hardwood installed in 3 rooms and a hallway, finished and hand scraped to match existing flooring. The company came to our house, measured, and Damon sent us a quote. I responded to Damon, asking when the company could get started. Additionally, because I view this as a fairly sizable investment in our home, I had questions about the installer who would be doing the work. Specifically, I wanted to know whether the installer had experience hand scraping, as I know that process can be difficult and time consuming. I also asked if Damon had any references for the installer, or even any pictures of recent work--perhaps a bit high maintenance, but I though it was a reasonable request. Damon simply responded that they could start in 3-4 days. He did not address the questions I had re his installer. I knew that 3-4 days wasn't possible, because wood has to acclimate in the house for longer than that, so I asked him about this, and also repeated the questions re his installer. He condescendingly replied, "but you only asked when we can start the job, and we can start in 3-4 days." Once again, no response re his installer. So I asked about the installer and his experience again. Damon's response was "We do 1,000 hand scraped floors a year, sir." I explained that I was less concerned with the number of floors the company installed, and more concerned with the specific installer First Floors would hire to do the work. So I asked him again. His response was that the company had done a "banker's house" and also a former president's house. At this point, I told him I'd love to use his company, but that I needed more details on who the installer would be, specifically his experience hand scraping. I again asked for recent references. Damon responded "I have come to the realization we are not the company for you." I found the contact info for the owner, Richard, and emailed him, explaining that I thought the resistance to my questions was bizarre, especially considering the fact that we're in uncertain financial times. No response. I've owned a few houses, done lots of work on all of them, and have never been in a situation where a company is not willing to provide info on the people who will actually be doing the work in our home. I think that's highly suspicious. Also, the fact that he was ready to install in 3-4 days, in a humid climate like the Dallas area, is problematic in my experience. I can't speak to the quality of their work, but their customer service is garbage. read more

We met these folks through our Farmers Insurance adjuster. We had experienced a plumbing failure caused flood. It destroyed our hardwood floors throughout much of the house. Rick was the lead person from First Floors and he was extremely diligent in making sure all of the work was completed right and on time. We were out of our house for 5 weeks while they did their repair magic. If you came to our house now, you would never know there was ever a flood. Exceptional people to work with! read more

UPDATE: So we received a call from upper management today apologizing for all of the miscommunication up to this point. As of today the work has begun on our floors and First Floors seems to be trying to rectify this extremely unfortunate situation. I am appreciative that the company is now reviewing the issues in our case and their processes to ensure our job is finished on schedule. I also changed my mind about the star rating, but only due to the personal call from management. We'll see what happens once the job is completed. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS. Our insurance company forced us to allow these people to replace our floors after our house was destroyed by a tornado in Oct. 2019. The same night the tornado knocked off our roof, it rained for hours and soaked through the floors in three different rooms. Our house sat with smashed windows and missing roof for months. We told our insurance, and First Floors about the extreme likelihood of water damage to our wood subfloors. THEY DID NOTHING FOR MONTHS. Now that the house is mostly repaired, it's time for the floors, and every single time they show up, there's another excuse as to why they can't do their job. They tried to pass blame on our contractor, when it was all their job to begin with Now they are saying our subfloors are totally damaged (DUH) and we have to wait the entire 4th of July weekend to get anything done. THIS IS WEEK THREE of us waiting for these people to get off their hunches and do the job they are paid for. Not to mention being lied to by their "sales person" who is supposed to contract out to people to lay the floors down. These people are shysters, full stop. My family could have been preparing to move back into our home by now, but at this point it may be who knows how much longer this will all take, especially since the careless workers they hired have knocked and gotten dirty finger prints all over our newly painted walls. Between waiting to finally have our floors finished, and done so correctly, we now have to wait for our contractor to repaint and fix WHAT FIRST FLOORS MESSED UP. I despise people like First Floors who take advantage of people and only care about their almighty dollar. I will update my review (the star rating WILL NOT go up) if they actually begin working on our floors, whether or not we will continue our business with this unscrupulous company. read more

This was a great experience from start to finish. Melanie was absolutely fantastic and her experience is notable. She came to the house to take measurements once and, out of all the floors we looked at, we ended up picking the ones she recommended because they looked fantastic with the colors at the house. Alfonzo installed the floors and he did a great job. We are nothing but pleased and will definitely recommend them. A key thing that made us decide for them, is that they are the one of the only ones that actually have a store with actual big samples that you can take home if you need to picture it on the floor. read more

they removed the old floor, but did but didn't level it before laying down the laminate vinyl . My entire floor is lumpy. I have contacted them on several occasions. They sent someone out to look at it and asked"well what parts do you want redone?" i said every part that is lumpy! Never heard back from them again! They did a horrible job! Hard lessons learned! Who knew the insurance companies advised "preferred vendors" were considered the worst by those in the know? Turns out to be truer than true in the case of First Floors Carpet One (FFCO). Ordering the flooring was the easiest part but having FFCO abide by manufacturer guidelines for proper installment was another story...failure after failure after failure; six months later of failures and no floors, it was time to call it quits and stop the ineptness! Lessons learned= Owner and Management failed to accept accountability or responsibility & failed to properly educate their own workers, which set them up for all the failures or lack of product knowledge that perpetuated. If the job / service cannot be done; it's one of three reasons: they're unwilling; they're uneducated or they're unable. In FFCO, they got the Hat Trick! (all three) Management was unwilling to accept accountability of repeated failures. Employees were uneducated in product requirements (another management fail); and lastly the company was unable to perform successfully. read more

We were so excited to work with Carpet One and the salesperson Melanie, after seeing the selection and her willingness to help. We weren't in a hurry and scheduled our install date for 8-10 weeks out. I called the day before to confirm the installers would be there and we chose the afternoon slot. The day of install comes, and no one shows up. I had a feeling this would happen. Instantly I started to regret going with this company. Called Melanie and she was helpful - and assured us we would get a nice discount and she was working with the manager to get us scheduled the following day. The next day comes and the carpet arrives, but the roll is too short for them to complete the job. The manager, Landon, stops by and truly made me feel like he would take care of us after profusely apologizing for the now two instances setting us back. He said he was going to leave us the extra roll of carpet and would make sure to give us a nice discount after everything we had been through. He said he would be in touch. Fast forward a week, the installers are back to finish the job with the new roll of carpet, and I have yet to hear from the manager, Landon. Unfortunately, I had called the day prior once again to schedule us for the afternoon slot and was assured they would be there 1-5pm. I can't say I'm surprised that they showed up at 10 am knocking at the door. For the third time now, we are having an issue with this company. Landon never called me to discuss any sort of compensation, and the roll of extra carpet was never left behind. All talk - and completely unprofessional is what I have to say about Landon and this company. We were sent a bill for the full amount a week later, and I called Melanie to remind her that she said she would fight for us and her manager promised us a nice discount. I was called back a day later and told they would offer us $100 off our order. Im absolutely disgusted and appalled that $100 is the "nice" discount they had in mind for us. But even more so, Im appealed that Landon never had the decency to be in touch like he promised or to leave the extra carpet. I was more than nice and accommodating for their 3 mishaps, and I'm pretty proud of myself considering I'm 9 months pregnant. The carpet looks nice, but I have such a nasty taste in my mouth after working with them and I would never recommend them to anyone. We moved to Dallas TX about a year ago. We purchased an older home that was in need of renovation. Based on the recommendations of neighbors, we visited First Floors Carpet One. They made it very simple to choose new hardwood for the house and carpet for the bedrooms. The staff was professional and very knowledgable. They helped us select styles that were on sale and organized the measuring and installation for the weekend. The flooring was installed as promised and they cleaned up and took away the old flooring as promised also. This company was referred to us by a friend. The only reason I gave them a 1 star is due to the wonderful experience with Jamie on the front end. They have extremely poor communication w/their subs. The tile guy finally showed up at 2pm in the afternoon, after several calls to CS. Had no idea he was supposed to demo; and completed his job into the wee hours of the night, the next day. (This was supposed to be a one day job) Carpet guys showed up after 5pm the following day, again, after multiple calls to CS; did not start their job bc of tile; promised they would be back the following day, 8am. Unfortunately, as can happen, the flooring company put a hole through my pipe. They went back and forth on whether they would accept responsibility and finally they said we would have to go through our insurance companies, which created a lot of delay and frustration. However, the owner himself was very easy to deal with and fair one on one. Their insurance company is a typical company, trying to deny and shift blame. However, in the end while I may not be made whole, I think we'll reach an amicable settlement. On a positive note, the vinyl tile they helped us pick out is gorgeous. read more

Getting floors through this company was a TERRIBLE experience. They constantly lied to us, had no regard for our time, and generally provided the worst customer service experience imaginable. They left us without flooring in our house for weeks, and acted like it was no big deal. Installation was okay at best, and will not likely last very long, seeing that pieces of flooring are already coming loose. Their lifetime warranty is undoubtedly useless - if they didn't care when there was money to be made, I can't imagine how little they would care now that they've been paid. While researching ffc1, I thought that previous bad reviews were just "difficult" customers with unrealistic expectations; I was wrong. Don't make the same mistake that we did in thinking that going with Farmer's preferred installer will make replacing your damaged flooring a less painful experience. I feel that giving the necessary one star is still a gift, considering our experience. read more
