DO NOT USE FIRST US FLOORS--THEY CUT CORNERS AND DON'T STAND BY THEIR WORK! We hired First US Floors about 3 years ago to replace old tile and carpet throughout most of our home with high-quality vinyl laminate flooring. At first, everything looked great and the installation was completed quickly. However, what seemed like a smooth process has turned into a nightmare down the line. BEWARE: While this company is quick, they do NOT stand by their work. Their installation warranty is only 2 years, and they know exactly what they're doing--they intentionally cut corners, ensuring issues don't show up until you're out of the warranty period. After 3 years, our floors started chipping and bubbling. When I consulted an expert, they confirmed that this happened because First US Floors didn't level the floor properly before installation. I contacted the company, and they offered to "fix" their mistakes--for a staggering $1,200 claiming it was a discount. Absolutely laughable! Matt, the owner, told me if I'd brought it to their attention earlier, they'd have fixed it for free. But here's the thing--they deliberately take shortcuts (things you can't see underneath your floor), knowing the problems will surface after their warranty expires. It gets worse. The flooring connects to carpeted bedrooms and the carpet started to rip. A carpet specialist told me First US Floors glued the carpet instead of properly securing it--a lazy shortcut. The carpet lasted two years before falling apart leaving me to deal with their lazy work. Matt will likely respond to this review to defend the company, but I'm sharing the truth so others don't fall into the same trap. We have used First US Floors for two flooring jobs now and both times were very pleased with the results. The first time (2016) we just wanted to extend the existing hardwood floors into additional rooms, which they were able to do with seamless transitions. The second time (2020) we had water damage which required all the floors to be torn out and replaced. Not only did they do the floor demo and install but they also fixed the holes the plumber cut into the drywall, retextured, and painted. In addition, they were able to do the job in two stages, so as not to completely displace us during the job that stretched across the entirety of the house. I'm one very happy and satisfied customer of First US Floors for TWO reasons. 1) We added new hardwood flooring to our office and master bedroom last year. I was terribly concerned they would not be able to color match the stains so that there was a seamless transition to the new areas from the existing floors. As you can see from my photos, they absolutely nailed it! Their workers were always professional and tidy. 2)We had a small area that water penetrated cracks in boards in my kitchen and caused slight warping. My home was sold and I wanted next owners to have our home perfect so I contacted First US Floors. Finally, my father was ready to replace his 40 year old chocolate brown shag carpet. I guess he was just waiting for the right flooring. ;) He wanted a low maintenance flooring that looked like wood yet he wouldn't have to worry about his dog getting wet or scratching. I called Matt on Monday morning to get pricing and to discuss options. Asked if they could come out to Allen, Texas to visit my father with some samples. 2 hours later, his colleague Carlos was at my father's place with a variety of samples. We were originally thinking vinyl planks which Carlos proposed along with a new luxury type of flooring made with PVC. It looks like wood, 100% waterproof with a lifetime warranty - PERFECTLY meeting my father's needs. So that's the one he went with, a brand new product just released by the manufacturer. :) Tuesday Matt came to Allen to meet my father and pick up the deposit check. Thursday their crew arrived ready to work at 8am, by end of the day, only a closet and the floor transitions were left to do. (per my request, Matt sent me pics of the process). Friday morning they were in and out within 2 hours having finished everything by 11am!! Now that's efficiency!! So they did the entire house and it looks amazing! They handled the removal of the old flooring and moved my father's furniture. My father is 71 years old, so the idea of changing his flooring, and moving furniture could have been a stressful situation. But Matt, Carlos, and their crew did an amazing job. These guys are the best. Called on Monday to ask about getting flooring installed in four bedrooms and closets - with some flooring we already had, as well as getting new flooring from them that matched close enough. They drove out to our house within an hour to take measurements and had us quoted by the end of the day with a reasonable price for a lot of work. I get a call from my office staff notifying me that one of our cleaning crews (I own a cleaning company) had accidentally gotten oven cleaner on the wooden kitchen floor, ruining the finish. I send out for quotes on Yelp. First US Floors is one of the first to reply. They set up a time for Carlos to stop by my customer's home first thing in the morning. Important because I needed this done asap before the customer moved in. Carlos, the gentleman they sent, was there on time. He said they could repair the area without needing to refinish the entire floor! Great news because that is saving me tons of $$$. The only reason I did not use them was because another contractor showed up who was ready to fix it immediately. Since time was vital, I went with them. Otherwise I would of used First US Floors because Carlos was professional and their Yelp reviews are outstanding. After much deliberation I chose First US Floors to install almost 1300 sq ft of 6.5 mm luxury vinyl plank on a Sunday. Matt and Carlos took the time to discuss the pros and cons of the different types of flooring. They also have an extensive selection in store. My current flooring was mostly laminate but there was also a glue down hardwood in my living room. The hardwood alone took a day and a half to remove. Several other company quotes included extensive charges per square foot to remove it but First US Floors charged me one flat demo fee. They gave me the option to install shoe moulding over the install and against the baseboards or remove and replace the baseboards. They explained that they would be careful but baseboards could be damaged and would need repainting after reinstall. I chose to have the baseboards removed since I need to have the house painted anyway. Matt estimated the job would take four days but I'm happy to say the crew started Monday morning and by Wednesday afternoon my entire house was done! Carlos worked late to ensure my bedroom was installed as promised so I could put my bed back together. The entire experience was quick and pleasant and I could not be happier with my product and the install! read more
