BE VERY CAREFUL if Dr. Andrea Nguyen refers you to another doctor, and don't trust her words. I am sharing my experience so other patients can be cautious, and understand their legal rights before waiting too long. In 2022, Dr. Nguyen referred me to Dr. Tuan Tran for plastic surgery on my shoulder to remove a small mole. So expensive surgery. Unfortunately, I had a very poor surgical outcome on my shoulder and was left with a visible scar. What concerns me even more is that Dr. Nguyen and Tran continued to reassure me that the scar would improve or disappear after one year, even though the result was visibly bad. I was repeatedly encouraged to wait, and I later learned that California has a strict time limit one year for filing certain medical malpractice claims. That delay caused me serious concern and made me feel misled. I still have no idea why Andrea didn't let me to sue Tuan Tran and did her best to support and protect him! They will lose your referral, find it, lose it again, find it but misinterpret it, give you wrong information and then hang up on you. I think it took playing phone tag for a two week period just to figure out this is not the place for me or my family. The Irvine location is a different story. read more

She's always attention and helped reduce keloids that my previous dermatologist could not and also answers other questions I had about my skin. This review is mainly directed at Vivian Lacquer and partly to the clinical trials staff. I have prurigo nodularis, a chronic skin condition that causes itchy bumps on my skin. The treatment was testing the efficacy of Ruxolitinib cream which I would put topically on the affected areas. At first it worked decently. Every visit, I get new creams, but have to return the previous ones, When I asked, " What about when I am done with the trial?" The staff basically said I can't keep it and I asked what other options do I have since my skin condition is chronic and seriously affects my quality of life? They kinda fought me without answering and saying "it's just protocol from our policy" , and they go seek out Vivian Lacquer and she said I can just squeeze the cream out from its tube and put it in a container of my own, so I did that. Later on the cream stopped becoming effective with my itching. I seriously needed another solution. The only times I met with the dermatologist Vivian Lacquer was intially a brief screening that I qualify for the trial, brief screening for updates, two skin biopsys, and the ending when she sat down with me. None of those times did we even have a minute of conversation. She basically only did what the protocol was required for her to do without patient care. Just Instructions for me and rapidly numbed me to take pieces of my skin away, which LEFT ME WITH SCARS still visible after 6 months. During the final visit, she just sat in front of me and started taking the final assessments for the protocol of the clinical trial without talking. Just silence. I tried to talk to her and make an effort to express my worries and a solution for my skin problem but the only sympathy I got was "That's terrible" as she just hurriedly wanted to finish her job assessment and leave. What bothers me is that they did not recommend Dupixent or any medication to actually help me In the end, I got worse over time but I sought help from my PCP and got an approved dermatology visit and have been on Dupixent for prurigo nodularis for over 3 months. I am now healing again thanks to another dermatologist who actually cares about their patient. Since the staff clearly don't care about yelp reviews about this place to even respond, I will say that I lied and kept a tube of the cream for myself and even though you said it would make paperwork harder to explain to the sponsors of trial, I sincerely say this that IDGAF. read more

0 Stars. Place is in incompetent. Was referred by Dr. 1stOC said they couldn't help. Fine. Said they would refer me to Hand Ortho at UCI. Called UCI...nothing. Called 1stOC back. They said something on their end. They'll process it again. Said it was good to go. Called UCI again. Nothing. No referral found. At this point I'm angry. I'm confused. I just want to get better. How hard is it to process a fn referral? Call again. 3rd time. Everytime I called I have to go through the run around with their South African call center. Great people nice people. But idk if they're responding my messages because nothing is happening. 3rd and 4th time I called they said they would have the office manager call me back. Never happened. Idk how many times I ended up calling to no avail. My insurance ended. I never got the referral. And my hand is still effed up. Thank you First OC Dermatology for absolutely nothing. I wish I could write my review about the quality of care I received or any information about their office but they made it too difficult to even schedule an appointment. 2/10: I call the dermatologist after getting a referral from my PCP but they have not received it yet and tell me to call back in a few days. 2/12: I call back and they say they don't have any referral at all 2/16: I call my PCP and they tell me they have already sent a referral out but they resend it anyways 2/17: I call the dermatologist and they say they see my request processing through the system but they will mark me high priority and give me a call back ASAP 2/19: I call the dermatologist after they do not call me back and they FINALLY get my referral and schedule my appointment for 2 weeks ahead on 3/5 3/3: The dermatologist calls me back and tells me the referral is missing important information and they need to cancel my appointment At this point, I've had enough issues just scheduling an appointment. They make it so difficult to even get in the door. I should have just gone to a different dermatologist from the beginning instead of wasting my time trying to schedule and work with this office just for them to cancel on me last minute. I can't speak on the service given but if they can't even keep appointments and referrals straight, I wouldn't trust them to keep any other information. read more

We have been going to this office for over two years. My daughter sees them, and so do I. We fired them yesterday. There has been a weird condition on my daughter's neck since APRIL and they have not been able to figure out what it is. We have been there three times during this time period and they have never once taken a culture or done any labs. The condition is getting worse and worse. I have a history of skin cancer and went there for a new patient exam and they did not do a thorough exam. Every time we go there, the waiting room is packed and they are focusing on quantity over quality. In two years, my daughter has been switched to three different providers within the practice. The last straw was when they had to cancel her November appointment (remember she has an active skin issue) because the prodiver was going to be out of the office that day. Instead of trying to fit her in quickly, they told us they could see her in January. When I made some noise about it, they reluctantly made her an appointment in the Irvine office. In the meantime, the skin issue turned into a staph infection. There is no way to be seen quickly, providers are in and out through a revolving door, and they don't care to correct mistakes. Yesterday, I cancelled her appointment and they asked why - I told them we were unhappy with the care my teen is receiving. Their response? "Thanks for letting us know, Merry Christmas!" After nearly three years of care. They do not care about their patients and cannot fit you in for emergencies. If they need to cancel an appointment, they do not make an effort to fit you in quickly. I'm writing this review on behalf of my husband because I am sort of his caregiver, I dealt directly with this office and I feel they are making fun of me, they need to be called out as I do not want this to happen to anyone else. I really don't know what they are thinking, it should be obvious that talking to me should tell them I have a medical background but that is beside the point, they should treat every customer with respect. My husband has skin cancer but it's not the killer form melanoma, he has BCC and SCC, his dermatologist is very competent, very nice doctor but he is firmly against any suggestion of any cosmetic procedure. Because of my husband misguided concept of sunbathing and never using sunscreen skiing from the age of 5, he pays for it dearly, at least his skin cancer never reached melanoma but as a result of so many SCC Mohs surgery and moles coming from the sun, his skin looks like the moonscape!. It looks rough and bothers him as he compares himself to me who is literally allergic to the sun n use sunscreen all my life so I have good skin but I told him I'm a woman and as a man, as told by his dermatologist, he should not be concerned. My skin starts looking bad this year but I feel bad he cannot stop thinking about this, it was not out of vanity but if a procedure can uplift his spirit, why should I not help him attain it. I called and talked to a lady w such heavy accent, she said she was from South Africa, whoa! Since when call centers went to Africa. I made it clear I want some procedure to get rid of "moon rocks" maybe laser to smooth out the rough surface, or whatever a cosmetic surgeon need to do to make his skin look normal, I told her I'M POSITIVE my health insurance won't pay for it but I'm willing to pay for it, she told me not to worry, they will figure out how to bill the insurance pay for it. I specifically said I wanted Dr Tien Nguyen who's a well known cosmetic surgeon. I went in with my husband for the initial consultation w a NP, I forgot her name, she was a blonde, she was very nice but she immediately zeroed in on his potential BCC and SCC (never mind I had told everybody I was there for some simple cosmetic procedures, she assured us that after the biopsy was done and any BCC treated w nitrogen, SCC treated by Dr Martin, he will be allowed to see Dr Nguyen. It sounded fair but they made him wait for so long to see Dr Martin, my husband saw another physician assistant who told him firmly they didn't do cosmetic at 1st OC, unfortunately I did not go w my husband that time OR THIS DISRESPECTFUL PA would get an earful from me, I say like it is THIS IS GROSS BAIT AND SWITCH PRACTICE and they did that to the wrong person, this was a joke, the big sign in front of the building said they were a big cosmetic surgery center. I'll cancel his next week appointment for some dubious case of BCC/scc, I take a good look and it sure looks pretty normal to me, my husband forgot to tell them off that I made it clear, we had a Harvard graduate Dr doing his SCC for the past 8 years, we were here for the cosmetic procedure, we were strung along long enough and I'm not going to take it any longer. The office has a big operation, I have never seen such an office teaming w office help and the waiting room was packed, I bet most were there for plastic surgery, neither my husband nor I are into changing anything, we are happy w what our parents gave us! My husband is stressed out and now accept his skin the way it is, I'm OK w his moonscapes and grateful he's alive, I told him I would marry him again! This was the first and only dermatologist office that I have been to so far. They actually used to be open on weekends, but now they have standard doctors hours Monday - Friday. Probably a change caused by COVID. This practice can take care of everything skin related, from serious derma conditions and diagnoses, to all the aesthetic options like Botox & fillers. On my first visit I had met with the physicians assistant who made me feel very comfortable. She was very experienced and was able to diagnose my mild skin concern and suggested a prescription for a hyperpigmentation cream, but I didn't end up getting it since Melasma is not a life threatening condition. I will for sure come back for any future skin problems though. read more

Not only is this office, particularly efficient, but also I feel treated with care. My most recent experience has been with Jenny and Jason, the physicians assistant. I had laser treatments on my face because I've had multiple cancers, have had many MOHS treatments and even had plastic surgery. Doctor Tien Nguyen ordered a series of laser treatments because of the multiple pre-cancerous growths on my face. I have now had three treatments with outstanding results as a side benefit. Jennie has taken meticulous care of me as has Jason, the physicians assistant. I am thrilled with the results. I have no more pre-cancerous growths on my face at this time. I am grateful to both of them for their kindness and care. I would highly recommend them. read more

What a big scam! I went there several times for my scalp allergy due to hair color. I was seen by different PAs and requested for a change 2 times because Jason was disrespectful & David is short & arrogant. The last time I was seen by a Chinese who is much better. Then, after coming back from Vietnam, I was demanded to see Dr. Tien Nguyen because he wanted to do a biopsy on my scalp. He also ordered a blood test to see if I have lupus. The 1st time he only look at my scalp (for less than 5 minutes) and told me what to do (another 5 minutes maximally). The 2nd time was 10 minutes maximum). Yet, I got charged for 30 MINUTES EACH TIME. He billed me totally SIX TIMES for $257. What a crook! I still pay him because I don't want to argue or get bad credit. But Karma will get him. The pic is the bill I got. Last year I donated $30k to charities in Vietnam. This year I planned to donate more than that. As a doctor of Clinical Psychology, I pledge to donate to the charities in Vietnam $1k for each patient who becomes a US Citizen due to my help. I changed dermatology offices from west dermatology to here. I have frequent visits as I have rosacea and alopecia plus a few more things. I'm always treated so amazing by the staff here and I'm seen quick. If there's ever a wait or delay, the staff always makes sure to express sincere apologies and truly care about making it known. My Dermatologist is usually Vince. He is so incredible and I hope to continue I get him every single time. He makes me feel so comfortable and you can tell he truly cares about his patients. He makes visits easy and he's so knowledgeable you can tell by his approach and confidence in treatments. I trust him and I will always be back because of so. Today I met Trina for the first time she got me started. Such a sweet woman and fun to talk to while you prepare for the Doctor. also very beautiful!! He was rude and short and quite frankly talked to me like I had a low IQ. I wanted an appointment with a specific dr because they got great reviews but after a few minutes on the phone with him I hung up and made an appointment elsewhere. Terrible practice because staff cannot answer a simple question that she or can ask a nurse to answer about medication instructions. They kept saying "in my opinion" and giving me different times and answers on when I should take my antibiotics before an outpatient surgical procedure. How ridiculous! I initially called my pharmacy to ask the question but they recommended I call my doctor's office so I did and that is what I got. Basically, no definite answer and I had to Google it myself. I have been a patient of First OC Dermatology for several years but I won't be going back. The care has been subpar at best. I am scheduled with a different PA each time because they don't seem to stay with the office long. But the main reason is because they charged my credit card for a small outstanding balance without my authorization. I wasn't even in their office that day when I noticed a credit card charge notification go through on my phone. I never gave them my credit card to keep on file, I always pay as soon as I arrive and hand them my card which they run at the time. Somehow, they kept my card information and charged it without my authorization or notifying me. I have made 3 calls to them to discuss and they always say they will investigate and call me back which they never do. If this is their standard business practice, I would not advise becoming a patron. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Tien Nguyen for the past 5 years. The care and overall experience has continued to get worse. First, it is almost impossible to be seen by a doctor, all non-surgical appointments are facilitated by physician assistants. The last three PAs I've seen did not review my records and had horrible patient etiquete. Second, they have outsourced their phone calls to a call center making it hard to connect with the actual office. It took four phone calls this last time to finally reschedule my appointment. Lastly, the practice is run like a money-marketing scheme where unnecessary services are provided and skin care products are sold. I have been to four different dermatologists in my life and this by far has been the worst experience. I would not recommend First OC Dermatology to anyone. read more

Ever since this call center (outsourced to India) started answering calls, it's made it very difficult to book appointments & ask about my health history, & insurance. One time, I had to stop in to the office to avoid talking to the call center to make an appointment because it's been a hassle. Recently, I called to ask a question about an appointment. I asked to speak to the front desk. Instead of transferring me to the front desk, the call center asked me why. I felt like I needed to plead my case in order to speak to the office. Please OC Dermatology, we need YOU to answer the phones and not to have some out-of-country (and out-of-touch) call center answering your phone calls. read more

I have HMO insurance, 2 year old son referred with Molluscum Skin issue. Very common problem. Facility declined to provide treatment on first visit because they wanted a "biopsy". Total money grab. Unnecessary testing for the obvious. Then wait another 2 months. They say they can only freeze off the molluscum bumps. Child is 2 years old. Any other option? I walk into the facility since you can't call direct and get any help. They say will call you with what the doctor says could be options. Never called us, never provided options. 4 months of referrals and a worthless initial appointment. Cancelled and went cash pay with a higher regarded facility. $200 later and we have a molluscum specific treatment cream that is painless. Why do I pay $2200 a month for insurance if these "specialists" can't figure out the basics. Don't waste your time. This facility is overloaded, inefficient and ineffective. Total waste. read more

I usually never leave reviews but had to keep this facility accountable. Got a referral from my doctor. Reached out through email at the end of October to make an appointment (after calling 3 times and no one picked up). Tien Q Nguyen was the one who responded to my email asking if a specific date in November of 2023 worked for my schedule. I responded within 24 hours to confirm, and heard nothing back from this facility. I reached out again after 2 days with no response from anyone. The day of the "appointment" then went by, and I heard nothing from the office, no one reached out at all. To this day, I have not heard back from this facility. I wanted to try this location because my doctor who I trust referred me but the communication at First OC Dermatology, whether it be those answering the phones, the front desk secretaries, or the doctors themselves (Tien Q Nguyen has an MD license apparently) is absolutely awful and I wanted to deter those who are trying to work on their skin from this facility as they are useless and will probably waste your time. I also wanted to hold this facility accountable, because don't ask customers if they are available if you have no intention of following through with your words; it's unprofessional and immature. Again, I never leave reviews but I had to for this facility due to their poor customer service, inadequate business capabilities, and absolutely terrible communication. Been here 3 times for my 90 year old mother and the waiting room is always like a Petrie dish. No less than 20 ppl waiting at one time. Our appt was at 2:15 and we were finally put in a room at 2:45. They need to space out there appointments better so there isn't so many people waiting in a cramped tight area at one time. Nothing bad to say about the staff tho. Sadly often customer service is confused with sales tactic. This is one of those place. I come here for laser treatment if I cannot get a spot in their sister location in Irvine. I had an appt here at 310 today (Friday) then I was sent a text message yesterday that the laser person will be leaving early at 2. And if I could reschedule. I responded to the text and no one replied for 4 hours. So I called. This place is quite busy. There are at least 5 staff in the front office but most of them are quite aloof. Not terribly rude or utterly imcompetent, just aloof, cluless and not interested. I called 6 times to arrange 120 pm appt. I got here 10 min late at 130 because odlf the traffic. Well it is 2PM now and they are the ones with attitude saying I was late, we are busy and that my appt was at 1 etc. Just making excuses and no one checking to see if the laser person is actually doing anything bc the door is closed and I dont hear laser beep. The thing is, i think ive been here 5 times or so and this had happened 3 times. They just give u excuses instead of fixing. Not coming back here. The irvine location is better. And not too far away. 9 After the session I came up to the counter to ask to see the manager. Aa I had already expressed my disappointment with laser technitian, I was calm. But she seeing me walk up she buried her face down to the phone to pretend oh im so busy at work so i cannot even see you there. Some custover service training they get here. I said excuse me then she buried her face down more, as if she was an ostritch. And yes there were at least 7 more in the office looking away. The manager said "oh shes on the phone she cant help you" just belittling people like that here. Upon talking with manager she almost right away started asking inane questions such as oh when did u call? What time? This is usually a tactic people use to distract them. So as that didnt work,then started talking over me and telling me that I am not letting her talk. This is a tactic peopke use to overpower them as if im talking more i am in charge so u should listen. When those two didnt work she gave a laugh and said this is frustrating. Then she said defensively "well i cant hurry up a procedure before you", "no one else has a problem with her" "no one else complained out vm doesnt work" that is again making it that it is your problem to control people. These tactics are often used by sales people doing agressive sales. Soon she realised Im nit budging so she proceeded by snapping at me asking "fine what do u want me to do then?" At this point i let out a laugh. Because she was saying "what empty promise can I make so u can be off my back" I strongly suggest the managers at this location go to the Irvine one to learn custmor svc is at least "pretending" to be in their shoes, not saying whatever excuses they can think of in their heads, often coming up with contradictory excuses compared to the previous ones they said. Customer service means to try to see the series of events that led to the situation, instead of some ego power thing where they are just going "oh shes complaing. This is ticking me off" again, Irvine location is a bit better in customer service. I apoligise if this is too long and a bit incoherent but I hate it when people in wrong jobs act like im their problem. I will not be coming back here. Wish I can remember his name, My contact was with Tiffany. Hard to forget her or her name. She immediately recognized what my needs were and proceeded with care and professionalism. I really used to like this clinic and would have given it 5 stars in the past. Now, I struggle to even assign 1 star. Appointment setting and all telephone communication is outsourced to India and is frustrating and time consuming. The waiting room is overflowing with patients with a dozen scheduled for the same time. Expect to wait up to an hour! I would suggest you ask your insurance provider to redirect your referral for dermatology because this practice has clearly become nothing more than a money grabbing patient mill. On a positive note, I have to give Jason Huling 5 Stars for patient-centered care. I would recommend he find a more reputable clinic to practice his skills. read more

My daughter had a procedure here and I walked back to the room with her because she was nervous. While in the surgery room as they called it there equipment was nasty looking and rusty. I was told I could not be in the surgery room so I waited in the lobby that was packed with mostly elderly people. Heard one lady complain that she had been here at 1:30 for her 1:45 appointment and was still waiting almost an hour later. The receptionist apologized and said don't know what happened but you will be next. So if the lady would have just sat there she would have been waiting for a long time.
