I looked for an actual doctor, not a Physicians Assistant, a doctor who's scope of practice and expertise really studied skin. I was relieved to find Dr. Tony. His personality is very simple, quick, treat the issue and you're out of the office. He will listen to you, however he is direct and frank, no beating around the bush. If he doesn't have the answers he's not arrogant, he doesn't have the facade to present as if he should know, he'll see, "we really don't know what causes it". I laugh because he is honest and I appreciate that. He says, "let's try this med and see if it works" as I took my teenager in for rashes that looked so severe and the Dermatologist said, "it's exczema, but he's been scratching it so it must have been there awhile about 3 months"? And he was right! It's been about a month now and my son's exczema has improved greatly but it will take a little longer. Thanks doctor! He saw me same day, right away, I spoke with an actual receptionist and they took care of everything. And it did not take 3 months to schedule an appointment, "thank goodness"! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hsu on and off for years and just realized I had never written him a review. The reason I have been on and off has to do with my insurance choices over the years, as opposed to anything wrong with my health care practitioners. I finally got a very good PPO and I immediately came back to Dr. Hsu, who does not take HMO any longer. Since dropping HMOs, the wait time for an appointment here went from months to just a couple of days. He also has an exceptional staff and Physician Assistants who offer superior care. Dr. Hsu takes a lot of time with his patients and truly cares to find the right solution and not just give a quick glance and prescription. Nice guy, too. read more

I saw the physician assistant and she was very nice. The first two times I had to wait 5-10 minutes... no big deal. I'm fact, the appointment card I was given the second time had the wrong time so that is why I had to wait. But the 3rd time I got to my 4:00 appointment 9 minutes late due to traffic and the rude receptionist basically said I couldn't be seen and refused to listen to me she was so rude too, I was surprised she refused to let me talk to Desiree "Desiree said isn't talking to anyone, she is running behind". Wow, I was just going to wait to see if I could get in,,but receptionist was not nice. Funny thing too, I did make another appointment and again my card is wrong , receptionist circled Wednesday 8/10, but 8/10 is a Monday so now I have no idea when I'm scheduled for! And she rudely wrote "promptly" on my appointment card .. yeah I won't be back. I haven't decided if I'll come back jbecause I do like the physician assistant Desiree, but customer service is huge and now I've had this bad experience and I don't feel good about going back. He has many more 5 star reviews but Yelp is not recommending them. You can find more reviews by clicking the 'not recommended reviews' at the bottom of the page. I've seen many doctors before Dr. Hsu about a cut on my right hand that lead to dermatitis that spread all over my body. With the help of Dr. Hsu, I was able to determine I had a rare deep cutaneous infection by a certain yeast. I've seen many doctors before that have brushed me off since 2013 but Dr. Hsu trusted me to know that there was an underlying cause. Every day before I had my appointment I received a call to remind me I had an appointment. Patty and Ann at the front desk were always there to schedule my appointments. I can rely on one of them to answer my calls during business hours. Their office is clean and easy to find. Parking is plentiful. I highly recommend Dr. Hsu and his team. read more

I suffered from the usual puberty acne when I was a teenager but the acne subsided when I entered my 20s. 6 months ago, my acne made a roaring comeback probably due to stress at home. I was desperate and tried different over the counter medications to no avail. My primary care doctor referred me to Dr Hsu's office. Best advice ever! I came to see his physician assistant, Desirae. I was very impressed with her personable bedside manner and her confidence in getting my acne under control. She prescribed 4 different products at different intervals and now the acne is pretty much gone and she is trying to help smooth out any remaining acne scars. Desirae is really diligent in taking care of prior authorizations for my insurance so that I get the best pricing for my acne medications! read more

The rudest person is the old Asian woman who tells you, don't worry about coming back in and you always change your appt when I call to say I'm having a change in my work schedule. Or when once I had an emergency with our large fish tank breaking! Seriously, she was very INSULTING AND HOSTILE. I'm an RN, people have things happen. Wow, Dr Hsu, she just lost you another client. I highly suggest you read this review to determine who you choose as your dermatologist. When I moved to Huntington Beach 5 years ago it was tough to find a derm that I approved of. I worked in surgery for many years and I am very picky about who I see. Also because I have had previous skin cancers several times in my hometown and trusted my previous Derm. Just over a year after living here I had a small pimple like bump appear on my upper lip, I knew what it was and knew I needed to act fast. I have had a similar squamous cell carcinoma that presented itself in this way before. Knowing what it was, I knew how fast and aggressive it can be in my body. After calling my insurance and checking who was in my network. I made the appointment with Dr. Hsu's office. I chose Hsu because I called and asked about the credentials, how many PA's, how easy/hard is it to get in as a patient on a regular basis and the staff was patient, knowledgeable and kind with answering all of my questions. The soonest apt was a little over a month out. I took it. The cancer grew and grew day by day. I called and asked if there were any cancellations many times. I finally walked into the office and showed the office staff my lip. I explained I had a history of SCC and I REALLY needed to get in. Because the office staff has great knowledge of skin cancer they knew as well what it was and squeezed me in the next day!!!!! The PA biopsied, sent it away stat to pathology and I was in a plastic surgeons office with in 2 weeks. Surgery in 2 more weeks. I had half of my lip and cheek taken from me because of this stupid cancer. I could not imagine how much worse it could have been had they not gotten me in as soon as they did. Since then, I have had multiple biopsies (like I lost count), freezes and skin checks with Hsu and his PA's. I KNOW they have their patients constantly on their minds. They care. They want to make sure you are aware of skin cancer and how to prevent it. They want you to be healthy and they care about how you feel. I suggest giving them a try. I was referred to Dr. Hsu by my parents, who have both been patients of his for many years and have had only good experiences. The office staff was very friendly and helpful in setting my appointment and relaying all of the necessary information. As expected, Covid guidelines and procedures were in place. My appointment was with his associate Desirae; she was also very friendly and thoroughly explained my treatment options and what I could expect from each. The procedure was quick and the results were just as she had explained. She also evaluated a mole (not the reason for my visit) just to be safe. While I have always been pleased with the PA, Desiree, the complete lack of professionalism by the front office staff has me reconsidering whether or not I will return to the office. Full details I arrived 6 min late and when a man walked in behind me he was taken straight back to a room. I asked why this had happened and she said you took time to process with a rude tone. I come to this place because them was so nice to me on the phone. I pay 70$ just for regular checking I don't was need anything after 2 week I get bill for 51.72$ so I call to ask what's going on. Them call me after a week and the answer was if you don't want to pay don't pay and don't come back here anymore so I told them I don't care to pay I just want to know what is the reason so the lady (Anne Hsu) hung up the phone on me. GO TO A DIFFERENT DERMATOLOGIST I was 8 minutes late to my appointment that I scheduled nearly two months ahead and they said they couldn't see me wanted to reschedule me next month. Left me a voicemail to remind me of my appointment on a different number that I tried to call back but no answer. Couldn't find directions while I was driving from work. Tried to call for directions. No answer. Glad I'm checking on yelp now cause they have 3 stars means they probably suck along with their crap customer service who don't care about patients. Echoing what others have said here, the care I received from the Dr.'s assistant (whose name I think was Shaun) was lovely. He was caring, understanding, and didn't make getting checked for moles awkward (quite a feat!) The office staff, however, are massively rude, short, and callous. Scheduling a simple appointment seems to always be an enormous headache, with ample helpings of condescension. My recommendation to Dr. Hsu is to fire his secretaries. My recommendation to everyone else is be prepared to face unpleasantness, or just find somewhere else to go. read more

Had an appointment last Tuesday with young Dermatologist (I assume handles the less severe cases). She saw me for adult acne. I asked for retin-a micro (which I've safely used before). She proceeded to prescribe an oral antibiotic and told me to use for 2-3 months. Which is insanity! She also provided samples of what I thought was a form of tretinoin. It wasn't. It was some gel called, "Aczone (Dapsone). Come to find out it's caused anemia, shortness of breath, lack of oxygen. The FDA has even put out a warning on this medication. Oral and in gel form. Why would a reputable dermatologist provide samples of this drug, when it can have harmful side effects?! And then prescribe antibiotics, AND Retin- A?! Steer clear from this place. read more

Had an appointment today at 2:45 PM with Dr Hsu Was reminded yesterday via voice mail by his office staff about my appointment which i really appreciated! i was 5 minutes early,was promptly called into the examination room on time,and saw the doctor just about 5 minutes later!Everything went like clock work! We had a nice little chat together about our private lives before the skin cancer examination and he burned off some of the unsightly so called Barnicles on my skin! Happily he did not find anything cancerous! My reason for seeing Dr Hsu is that i love the California sun,but the California sun does not like me! Had already 2 mohs surgeries and are being monitored for any skin cancer problems! i am an outdoors guy,love to jog in mile square park in the morning! This was my first visit and I was recommended by my esthetician. The woman who works the front desk (I think her name is Patty) was so kind and very professional with keeping everything sanitized considering it is during the covid pandemic. I saw Desirae and she was so nice and very knowledgeable of what my next step would be in my adult/cystic acne. This review is for one of their PA's Desirae. I have seen her a couple times and she's been great both times. She has excellent bedside manor. Unfortunately as of June this office will no longer be taking HMO's only PPO's. So I'm super bummed about this. Hopefully I will find another provider as nice as her. Contrary to what a lot of people are saying on here, I have always had a good experience here. I've never had to wait more than a month for an appointment, as I come in every month. Fact of the matter is - DON'T BE LATE FOR AN APPOINTMENT YOU MADE. That's just common sense. Wake up 10 minutes earlier. Haven't got time for people blaming their mistakes on other people. I feel the people here are flexible and accommodating to appointment changes within reasonable time ahead of your appointment. I see on Yelp out of 11 Review, 10 are bad. Make it 11 out of 12. I let Edinger Medical Group know that substandard referrals to seed offices with rude staff is unacceptable. What a rude front office! Dr. Hsu might be good, but you can't get past the reception. They drive patients away. My story: I had an 8:15 a.m. appointment today 01/30/14. I admit I went to the wrong address, realizing it at 8:00 and calling immediately to let them know I would be right there. The person on the phone said, "If you are not here in 10 minutes, we will have to reschedule". I repeated that I was right down the street. Parking at 8:08, I enter the office by 8:10 where the person sitting there did not acknowledge me. Soon we were joined by another staff member that asks me my name. I sign in as she proceeded to tell me we will have to reschedule. I state my conversation with my 8:10 arrival, and she says, "It's 8:15 and you will have to reschedule!" I pull out my iPhone and it now say 8:11 and show it to her. She repeats it's 8:15 and I will have to reschedule! So I had to be there by 8:10 their time. She did not care. She said they have to keep their appointments on schedule. Who doesn't appreciate that from a doctor's office? Great policy that I wish other doctors could keep. Let me remind you that my appointment was at 8:15. The issue that I had new patient documents that needed to be filled out could be processed timely. This quiet, empty office remained so as I left. And no, I did NOT reschedule. I let Edinger Medical Group know that substandard referrals to seed offices with rude staff is unacceptable. I see on Yelp out of 11 Review, 10 are bad. I can't even give one star. I had my first appointment and drove 1 hour to get there and was about 10 minutes late because of morning traffic. I even called her to let her know I was 5 minutes away. The girl who answered the phone said they had to cancel my appointment and reschedule. I explained I would be there in 10 minutes. When I arrived there was only 2 people in the waiting room. She was so mean and nasty. Seriously the doctors are always late or behind and keep us waiting in the room in tissue paper at least 15 minutes. Really terrible customer service. I recommend go somewhere else. I agree with the others who reviewed this office. I should of listened to them. But I thought I would at least try. The office staff are rude and totally unprofessional. You can never get an appointment. It literally takes 2-3 months for an appointment. I think the staff must be inefficient in scheduling and needs help with customer service skills. I didn't even get to see the Doctor so I can't review the doctor one way or the other. Needless to say. I did not reschedule with this office. I called my primary care and got a different referral. Good luck to anyone who uses this doctors office. I was referred to Dr. Hsu by a friend, so I had high expectations walking into his office. Surprisingly, the office visit not only met but exceeded my expectations. Unlike most other doctors who only give you 10min (5min asking questions/5min writing prescription and getting samples), he spent time thoroughly understanding the problem before diagnosing. And most importantly he did an awesome job treating my skin.
