The real test of a company's integrity is when they get things wrong and won't have the payday they expect. How do they then treat the job and their customer? First Onsite failed that test spectacularly. They tore a big piece out of our wall, did tests that determined there actually was no mold or water damage issues after all, and then promptly disappeared. Over a month later, we still have a hole in our bathroom wall, all our toiletries in a wagon and everything formerly on the wall still cluttering up our bedroom. First Onsite has not only disappeared, they've refused to give us a copy of the test results saying there is no damage or to even give us an estimate to fix the wall. It's been over a month of ghosting us, not returning calls, repeatedly not giving us anything we've asked for and never giving us a straight answer once we do manage to get someone on the phone. Read some of the highlights of an email I finally sent after both my wife and I got fed up. Then decide if this is who you want for your next job. EMAIL HIGHLIGHTS: Dealing with First Onsite has been easily one of the most unprofessional experiences we've ever had. You are also the most unresponsive company we've dealt with as well. - JUNE 8th Carlton has told me a few days before that the team will be coming in, but presented this to me as a visit for them to figure out what they would do and where. That's it. The men show up and tell me, No, we're tearing out the wall today. News to me. - A few days later the testing team comes in and gives me good news. There's no mold issues or water damage. All that's needed now is to put drywall back up. I tell them that I would like a copy of the test results saying that it's all good. I'm assuming, wrongly, that I will be hearing from First Onsite soon about doing restoring the wall and getting us the test results. That was a month ago and neither has happened and both my wife & I have experienced nothing but evasion and outright ghosting. - I left Carlton a VM asking him for an estimate and a copy of the test results at least 3 weeks ago, after not getting anything I requested the week before. He never called me back. I had to follow up with Carlton again after a week of waiting for him to get back to me. When I did get Carlton on the phone, he wouldn't give me a straight answer on the results or the estimate and said he would get back to me. That never happened. - WEEK OF JUNE 30th Carlton went on vacation, leaving no instructions to his team about our bathroom. My wife made repeated calls to him, only finding out by accident that he was 'out of the country'. She couldn't get response from the First Onsite office so she finally called the Mainland corporate number and was given several names to try. She then was told to text to Bryan photos and measurements of the wall opening. An estimate was promised to be delivered to her Friday. Nothing ever came. - WEEK OF JULY 6th Finally, I got an email from 'Scott' on Monday, July 6th saying he could do the drywall possibly on Tuesday. I called Scott and told him, again, no work until I got the estimate and the test results and that I wanted both today. Scott said he would tell Carlton. Carlton finally sent an email around 2PM, but not because of my request. He replied to our building manager who contacted him. He never acknowledged anything in his email that I told Scott, just saying he was 'working on the estimate'. After a month has gone by. And not a word about the test results. When someone refuses to give you an estimate on some drywall work or let you have a copy of test results, that raises a lot of red flags. - Your initial $12,000+ estimate raised our insurance by $100/Month, despite the fact that there is nothing to clean up. Even with that cost of living raise you created, we've had to notify our insurance company that we're returning the check due to the initial tests being wrong. So all we've gotten out of dealing with First Onsite was a bigger bill every month from now on. read more

Quoted me two weeks to complete the job. Those two weeks turned into months and eventually they abandoned the job without notice. Now, 1 year later they are trying to get me to pay the invoice in full. I paid half up front and had to hire someone else to complete the work. The containment work they have done for us at our Straub Benioff Medical Center facilities - 888 S King Street and Straub Benioff KMA Kapolei Satellite Clinic - have been wonderful. First-Onsite team (Jenna, Carlton, Ben, Anu, Lama and Baba) are amazing!!! Great communication, response time and follow up via text, phone call and email. Carlton provided very detailed Field Reports with photos of the before/after containment setup along with equipment used and timeline of work from start to finish. Her guidance and knowledge was exactly what I needed to deal with the confusion from property management company, insurance from unit above, and plumbers. She got us all on the same page! These guys are awesome! The apartment above us flooded and the water came through our ceiling, walls, and floors. Interstate took care of the water mitigation, demo, clean up, and repair. All in one company that ensured the floors and walls were dried and free of mold. Daryl, Dennis and guys came every day to check on the drying progress and moved the the fans and dehumidifiers as needed. They kept us informed and explained exactly what they were doing through the process. Welton came out as soon as possible and provided our insurance with a decent estimate of damage to our insurance company. He was very professional and very helpful throughout the entire process. Cory and the guys who repaired the floors, baseboards, walls, and paint did a truly amazing job as well. While we're we're out of town on a pre-planned trip, Cory and his team made sure we came home to a completely finished apartment! Better than what it was before! Kudos to the team at Interstate Restoration that renovated our home after my refrigerator's water/ice maker system failed, causing water damage to our upstairs living room, kitchen areas and adjoining basement ceiling. Led by project manager Cory, Interstate's crew consisted of Tony and Glenn who replaced sections of the basement ceiling, painted it, and added an orange peel texture. This job was done in a day and a half and in a very efficient manner. The bigger job occurred upstairs in which new tile was installed in the kitchen, and living, dining room and hallway areas. Cory was patient with us as we took some time to select the tile and grout for the living/dining/hallway areas, along with laminate for two sets of stairs. This tile installation was handled by Jeremiah, Chris S. and a few other employees over a nearly two-week period (minus one holiday). They would arrive to work on time and even occasionally stayed late to accommodate our schedule. They also kept us in the loop as questions and issues came about, allowing us to choose a direction without being rushed or pushed into a decision. It was great to see daily progress, including backer board being nailed to the subfloor, the actual rows of tile on top, and the final baseboards. In the end, we are very happy with our renovated basement ceiling, and upstairs tile floors. Hats off again to the Interstate Restoration team for their professionalism, craftsmanship and efficiency in handle this large project. Yelp says need to write on and on, as yelp themselves are just liars as they can be paid to have reviews taken off and that's from personal experiences. I am sorry to the team at Interstate Restoration, but why was untreated lumber for roof's sheathing and tongue and groove lumbers to replace what definitely was high quality lumbers, built in 1973, and never had a single problem with home destroyers, pests I never knew even was any threat, but the work done using what I think is of a cheap pinewood and definitely termites food being attracted to those shiplap or tongue and groove lumbers brought in to my home and left in the weather for a long time, as that's really not the primary problem, but if using lumber I'm sure you folks know the differences of, why was not I asked if it's not required to use treated lumber in this dampened state, especially on the Windward side, you guys supposed to be professionals, but without any suggestions or warnings, I had no idea my newly built extension room was actually being demolished by termites and just where that whole roof except some beams or rafters were left, and now I seem like at fault. All I knew was that during the 35 years before Belfor, then Interstate stepped in,we never had not one cavity from a termite until after your lumber as my neighbor told me, was like a light, blonde colored shiplap as that's what he calls it, as he knows quite a lot, although he was a cop all his life he did practically everything himself, but knows that of all what was said. He should have said something at the time. But it's INTERSTATE RESTORATION and what seemed to be of not really considering the facts of that devastating menace not using treated lumber. I know the previous ceiling was not anything like ones that were brought here, way out of bounds! And some of the no care work only so damn obvious, a 10 year old could def paint better than that, and I will post that photo as even the roof tech agreed and he wrote me a pdf letter saying what was supposed to be done but evidently was not. That big IF, I had any choice of who would be doing the roof, but would anyone think, including Interstate that this would happen, I really have no clue. I just tell the truth but really don't want to criticize anyone. I am sorry but I think you should be as well, as I was told I needed to stay there like a babysitter and that's only so true. Just yesterday this guy up the street said, and the city inspector was like bribing him, he told him using profanity to get out of his face or .....you know the rest. read more

My friend is an old geezer, and cant get around well. I wanted to rave about how wonderful Jimmy was. He was polite, clean, and quite frankly, a complete riot! We had a leak from an upstairs tenant and an 18" square had been cut out of the ceiling by a different company to fix the repair. The other company left my kitchen a complete mess after they 'did their work'. The other company's guy even asked to borrow a step ladder to cut the hole because he didn't have one. My experience with Jimmy and Interstate was the polar opposite. Jimmy left my kitchen in better condition than he came into and my husband and I couldn't be more satisfied. Jimmy, buddy, you the man! Chris, his supervisor, was just as polite and couldn't even tell where the repair had been done. An excellent nod to Jimmy's skills. He's a master at his craft. We found water damage in one of the bedrooms Sunday (the last Sunday in 2013, 2 days before new year). The following day (Monday 12/30/2013) the plumber came found out it was the refrigerator (that's a different review). The appliance guy came and fixed the problem the same day (yet another review). We've been in communication with our insurance agent (USAA) all day and they arranged for Hawaii DKI to come to do water extraction. They have 3 guys arrived at around 5pm. They moved everything around, pulled the base trim, checked everything, tested everything for water damage and determine the extraction plan. They then drilled holes along the bottom of the walls, setup the fans, the dehumidifier, water drainage, etc. By 6:30pm, they were all done and told us they'll return the next day (new year's eve) to check. The next day (new year's eve), they came, checked everything and determined that only the carpet and padding needs additional drying. They replaced the noisy fan with a quieter one so we can sleep better. One of the guys said it'll be done the day after (new year) and he'll come and clear things out. We were some what shocked that he was going to work on new year day. He said he isn't far and can just swing by. New year day, he showed up, clear everything out. We were very appreciative of this crew's speed and professionalism. They took good care of us and made an otherwise miserable new year tolerable. Not that I want to have water damage again but these guys are the ones I want to fix our problem if it ever happens again. read more

On January 11 & 12, Randal Ragba and his crew Jeremy Maloney, Johnny Portillo and others, came by my apartment in Gateway Plaza, Chinatown Honolulu, to replace a dry wall and kitchen-counter front. They met all the requirements of excellent service: they were punctual, considerate, efficient & professional. They did such an excellent job, I still look at it in amazement to this day. An awesome friendly crew that went out of their way to make things as comfortable as possible for me while they worked. They wore masks all the time and kept their distance as much as possible. Found water dripping behind the washing machine, apparently for a long time. Mold investigator said the wall needed to come out and area required professional remediation and restoration. Called Interstate Hawaii and explained that I needed it done quickly due to upcoming function at my home in a few weeks, but I also said I did not want any evidence of a patched wall. They got right on it, scheduled everything to occur over a ten day period. It was quite a bit more complicated than I had imagined but they sent out two crews: one to deal with opening the wall and dealing with the mold and the other one to put it all back together and install a new wall to match the existing structure. Both sets of workers were great. The remediation team was quite professional carefully following established protocols in dealing with the issue. The restoration team rebuilt the cabinet, then installed, textured and painted the new drywall. There is not the slightest hint that the wall was ever opened. The room is beautifully back to its original state. All the people I dealt with were knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Never again. A bunch of unethical folks. Had issues for several months and went back and forth between them and my insurance company. They lied to my insurance company and now my insurance company agent told me today that they now refuse to work with them again so I will have to start all over. Be leery. read more

My home had a flooding and went through the list of restoration companies and seeing that this company had high ratings I gave them a call. I explained the situation and then the male customer service representative who sounded articulate explained that they would me a call back later. Well, hours later no call. So I called back and reached a female customer service representative who told me that the proper personnel were unavailable and that they would call me back. Again, I explained the emergency situation. Guess what? They did not give me a call back. It is the next day after nine in the morning and I still hadn't gotten a call so I called MD Restoration. Hawaii DKI just lost a lot of money due to their customer service. Who knows how much they lose over time due to their lackadaisical attitude. When I called MD Restoration the customer representative right off the bat asked for all the pertinent information. She even asked for my address. That was a far cry from the other company. I received a return call in a matter of minutes and already got a time frame of when they were coming. The person that called me asked about the situation and assured me that they would take care of it. I will do a follow up with a review of MD Restoration after they have completed the job. I suspect that they will do a good job. I was kind of weary about calling them due to the negative review that I had seen here. But with the way that my call to Hawaii DKI went, the one with the rave reviews, anything can happen. Update: Two days later still no call from Hawaii DKI. If you have an emergency such as a flooding in your home and need immediate help, this is definitely not the restoration company to go to unless you want to risk further damage to your home. Something to think about: the longer you take to get your home fixed the worse the damage. read more

From late 2016, Interstate had worked on our home in Kahaluu and under Jozef Pikula, who has moved up to a higher position but had been managing our damaged home that was caused by a serious fire and they had taken over, and with asbestos positive tastings it delayed this Restoration significantly, but in spite of delays and funds being deficient, they did a great job and not easy being a major operation. Jozef had a very difficult task esp dealing with lack.of funds and my tardiness as I always had difficulty with schedules and despite all the negatives, the other Restoration company was incapable of doing what Jozef and his team, at the time had done. And with their project comes a warranty, and my only regret is that I didn't invest much more money into our project and life goes on! read more

We had a clogged drain that affected a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen of our home. We receive a call back and response very quickly Hawaii DKI came right away. I was very impressed with their work. The bottom of multiple walls had to be taken out along with a bathroom vanity and laminate flooring in multiple rooms. They took out the walls really nicely, dried the walls, cleaned everything to ensure there was no molding and had an inspector make sure it was safe to start rebuilding. When they were done, they cleaned the area really nicely making it easy for our reconstruction crew to do their work. Highly recommended! read more

The lady upstairs left the faucet running and flooded our hallway and part of the living room in April. The walls had to be dried out with big humidifiers and the carpet needed to be replaced. Hapaki at First Insurance, our building association's insurance company introduced us to Doug at Interstate Hawaii. Doug came out to measure the apartment right away to create a layout plan of our apartment and created an estimate based on what needed to be fixed. Without Doug to explain everything to us, we would not have been able to get money for the damages and fix the flooring in our apartment. Once we signed our contract with Doug and picked out our flooring materials with Vinda at Prosource Hawaii, Raven came out to take measurements for carpeting and vinyl planks. He was good at communicating and checking in on the progress of the repairs. Edgar came the first week and worked hard on painting the walls, putting in the vinyl planks, and fixing the dry wall by himself. The second week, Chris and another worker came in to put in the side boards and seal the planks. Our job was a little delayed because many of the workers had to attend to the Marco Polo apartments after the big fire. The only downfall was the carpeting. Maybe it was due to the lack of time or the lack of thickness of our carpet, but we kept on stepping on nails after the new carpeting and had to hammer down the nails ourselves. Since we take our shoes off before entering our apartment, it would have been nice to have had a softer landing. Two pieces of furniture were also broken during the move but we were able to glue them ourselves. Overall, we are happy with the new look of our apartment and would work with Interstate Hawaii again. I would highly recommend Interstate Hawaii Restoration. These guys are awesome. Great group of people to work with, especially when there's water damage. Joe B. and George P. came out and set up the humidifier and fan. They were very knowledgeable and patient with my many questions and concerns. Joe came out to the house every day for a week (including Saturday and Sunday) to check up on things. It was pouring rain all weekend so the ceiling and floors didn't dry as quickly as we expected. Marlone came out the same day the humidifier and fan were picked up. He was great at explaining the next steps and got in conact with our insurance company right away. Marlone responded to his emails right away. Once our insurance company approved bid for repairs with Intestate Hawaii Joe G. came by with his crew Edwardo and Tony N. to work on the ceiling. It looks great. Joe responded to text and phone calls right away and was knowledgeable about the process. Seems to have a great rapport with his crew. Edwardo came by the next day with Chris and Mike to install the new floors. Great group of guys. They provided quality workmanship, have great dispositions and easy to work with. Very satisfied with the job Eduardo did on my son's ceiling repair. He was on time as scheduled and did a professional job. He was concerned about matching paint color so he cut a sample to buy a color to match. Dry wall repair is undetectable and looks like original. I called Hawaii DKI as a suggestion from my coworker to do water damage extraction. After telling them my situation and how they were the second Company I contacted, they were very upfront and honest and said that I should just go with the first Company since they had come out to survey the damage and had left me with a hepafilter for my home.
