I treated myself to a leather jacket here. Not something I would typically buy for myself, but they had such a beautiful selection. I just couldn't resist. Such friendly and knowledgeable, staff and owners. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to make a nice other purchase. I ended up enjoying one of their pieces so much that I ended up thinking about it the entire night... and I'm so glad I picked up her business card. Elsie was quick to help out and even mentioned that shipping was free if we wanted it shipped to our home address. While I was hesitant on the pricing, I thought about it for days and eventually sniped what was the LAST size on the product I wanted. I want to praise the store owner and Elise, the sale staff that help us with our purchases and the educational product knowledge that encouraged us to buy. From the beginning of greeting us to insisting us with the product knowledge help my brother and I to purchased. She explained the quality of my vest and shoes and how to upkeep to maintain it classy looks. She continues to help with our questions and sizing and did not leave until we where satisfied with her answers. I am a very detail person and she help me find the color and correct size. She helped me norrow down the color of my vest that looks best on me. She has demonstrated a concern for her customers to be satisfied. She helped me pick my vest and shoes as well as helping my brother. My brother and I brought two shoes and a vest. That's what we think about this store products with the excellent help of Elise. It takes more than a store to be successful to have good products, which this store has, but you need a sale staff that cares and helpful and make you feel like you belong here. My rule is good products with EXCELLENT customer service will make this store a success. I've owned multiple business and I am hardcore to excellent customer service. However, I am writing to express my outrage and deep disappointment regarding a racist incident I experienced in your store during a recent visit. As a Hispanic gay entrepreneur and resident of Solvang, I was appalled by the offensive remark I overheard. An older saleswoman, wearing a hat, make a shockingly derogatory comment. She stated, "I don't go to Santa Maria because of all the beaners." This remark was made in front of two of her coworkers. One coworker, a redheaded woman, promptly went into the back room, and the other, wearing a ponytail, walked away. Disturbingly, neither of them made any attempt to challenge or address this inappropriate racist white trash comment. This business has lost its class. I went into First Street Leather with my Dad on a busy Saturday afternoon. Elise was working in the shoe department. My dad was looking at Remy jackets. Dad finally was able to get Elise's attention. She'd been with the same shoe customers for 25 minutes. The other man and woman employees were playing on their phones at the cash register. When we got Elise's attention she politely explained to the shoe customer's that she would be back. Elise thought my Dad who was standing where the Remy jackets were was choking. Luckily, he was just laughing too hard. I told him he'd find a new wife wearing a Remy and he lost it!!! Anyway, nurse Elise ran to his side. Solvang has a lot of little specialty shops, and this little gem is special indeed! I didn't know how much I NEEDED a new purse and a sexy leather jacket till I walked in the door. Being pregnant in wine country is hard-- but it makes it a lot easier to take on larger purchases for quality items without pushback from your spouse. LOL - IMO, that is. Though the shop may be small, it is quite well stocked with a wonderfully surprising selection of wallets, belts, bags, hats, jackets, shoes, bolo ties and more. Things I've never seen elsewhere. Things you can't find at a mall. Prices were not cheap- but in this case, I feel, you really do get what you pay for. (I get so many compliments on my jacket!) My family and I came in for a nice look around. After coming in and picking a nice hat for myself to purchase, one of the employees, a yellow haired white woman, made it a point to make a beeline straight for my family, treating us as if we were going to steal. After having that profiling done, I of course left the store not purchasing anything. Great little shop with large selection of shoes, boots, hats, and wallets. I purchased a testesterone man's boot from here 6-7 months ago. When the bottom sole started coming apart, I emailed the store. They said it was still under warranty and sent me a replacement. The return process was a breeze and customer service has been very helpful. Unfortunately the replacement boot got damaged on the first day I wore it. So I reached out to them again, they were super helpful - again. I ended up sending the replacement one back to First Street Leather, and they tried repairing it. Couple days later, I was told they repaired it but it wasnt to their satisfaction. So they gave me an option to either get a full refund or choose another boot. They have a great selection, so I picked one and we confirmed the delivery date. Waiting for my new boots to arrive in a couple of days. Big thank you to Jena for making this process a breeze! My husband asked the sales lady if they carried a leather pocket pen protector. She wasn't sure but went to ask someone in the back. I stumbled across First Street Leather while I was visiting Solvang on a weekend trip. I ended up falling in love with a jacket there, which I ended up buying a week later online Bc I couldn't take my mind off of it. About a month later, an evil man child spilt some hand sanitizer on it causing some cosmetic issues. I was devastated. I reached out to the store to see if they had any recommendations on repair. The owner Philip reached out to me directly and asked me to send the jacket in, so he could see what he could do. He went above and beyond to resolve the issue and was a pleasure to do business with. Both Philip and the manager Travis are the definition of superb customer service, which are words I don't think I have ever used for any store before. While strolling thru town we visited this shop. My wife fell in love with a beaver jacket. It is well made and looked great on her. We have purchased clothing in their "sister" store in Solvang and I know they don't carry schlock. My mother worked in the New York garment industry all her life and I know good stitching from the times I would visit the various textile converters she worked at. From what I could see (wallets, purses, clothing and textiles) they sell quality merchandise. A great present for my wife on our 39th wedding anniversary. read more

Wow! What a beautiful selection of leather coats, furs, belts, purses, hats, shoes... everything! The smell of leather and the super friendly staff make a look in this shop worth the time. And their amazing products are priced very reasonably - the Remy coat that I looked at was $100 less than the same coat at Nordstrom! I had been on the lookout for a brown moto jacket for a while and found First Street Leather during a Solvang trip. Travis, the general manager, was very professional, honest, and helpful in finding me the correct size. When they didn't have the style and size I needed in stock, he called the rep with the manufacturer to order one for me. Travis kept me in the loop until the jacket arrived, which took longer than usual due to customs and shipping, so he discounted the jacket for me and covered the shipping, which I thought was very generous. The jacket arrived within two business days. Travis was very knowledgeable about leather maintenance, attentive, and sets a high standard for good business practices. Walked in today to take a peek at the leather goods advertised on the Hotel Santa Ynez Valley station - this place was featured, so I figured I'd check it out in person. The staff was friendly and attentive and *most importantly* didn't BUG THE HELL out of you with "can I help you.. can I help you.. let me know if I can help you.. looking for something in particular.. can I help you" ARGH! Stop asking me again and again! OK, so this place has a lot of leather goods.. I do mean A LOT. Jackets, hats, gloves, purses, shoes.. they have it all. Their prices seem competitive to other leather good stores that exist in 'touristy' areas. I found a brand here called Hobo Bags (the staff told me they were an American design but manuf in China.. he wanted to point out that I look at the stitching and leather quality to see that although manu if China, it was *very* well made). It seems everything these days is made in China :S What do you do? The Hobo bags are SO nice and SO elegant and very unique in leather colors and styles. I really, really, really wanted to buy one. But I have officially put all purchases of purses and bags and wallets on hold.. I simply have more than enough and don't 'need' anymore, so I will use what I got until they break or tear. waaaaaaa! If I didn't have this limitation, I would've bought a Hobo bag.. beautiful colors, styles and this place carried a lot of their work. They also had this whole trendy Brighton jewelry too..
