I dropped my wife off at a medical appointment in the neighborhood and wandered in for my first visit to a First Watch in over a decade and my first ever visit to this location. My tremus of coffee was delivered quickly and I ordered the biscuit and gravy with fried potatoes and two eggs fried hard. The speed of my order being delivered to my table seemed unreal, I've never cooked an egg that quick in my life. No issues with service or quality and the value wasn't out of line for today's standards. The only thing that I could complain about was the obnoxious smell upon entering the men's room before leaving. It seemed clean, yet an overwhelming urine smell permeated the room. It seemed unusual to see a First Watch not very busy around lunchtime on a weekend, but maybe our experience helps explain it. I ordered the smoked salmon Eggs Benedict, with fresh greens in a lemon-vinegar dressing. The greens were very pretty because they don't cut them up at all before plating, but that makes it difficult to cut them into bite-sized pieces on a small plate. The Eggs Benedict were lukewarm at best, which may be because the salmon and tomato are cold, but that didn't do much for somewhat bitter and off-taste. They brought me a second batch, which was pretty much the same lukewarm temp. The eggs are served on toasted focaccia bread that is too tough to cut with their small worn-out serrated knives, so half of the yolk-and-hollandaise-covered ingredients went flying across the table! I'm not a fan of having to work with my food a whole lot before eating it, JUST in order to be ABLE to eat it. My first ever experience with Salmon Eggs Benedict was in Alaska, with fresh salmon, and it was heavenly! So it's probably not fair to compare. My friend had turkey sausage gravy and biscuits with eggs, but there was't enough gravy to get her through it. I was surprised to learn that if one person orders coffee but both people have some from one carafe of it, they charge double, or at least that's how the cashier explained it. Hello again-It has been one year since I posted my review on this place which is only a four minute walk from my home in Westwood. A friend ask me to breakfast Saturday Sept 12th and wanted to meet there. OH BOY-but well it had been a long time so why not give it a shot (I thought)-We ordered coffee and ice-water which delivered AGAIN (like last year) had NO ICE (when will they get this right?). I use ice from my ice-water to cool my coffee down everyplace I go. So I asked her for a glass of ice. She said OK and returned to our area with food for other patrons. Then she stopped at out table to take our order. NO ICE YET. My friend ordered bacon and scrambled eggs only because of dietary restrictions. Cool. I too have dietary restrictions due to two (2) serious hernia surgeries in the last three months. I cannot eat anything uncooked fully or meat not nearly burned at this point, Doctors Orders. I took the time to explain this to the server and ordered potatoes and bacon only-emphasizing that the bacon had to be very very well done and the potatoes had to almost burned-really well done and CRISPY. I also ask for onions with the spuds and toast with butter and a side of butter (I love butter). I asked her if she understood and she politely said "yes". STILL NO ICE so I reminded her to which she said "I will bring it with your food. I guess people at this place go DEAF when you ask for ice in your water. So my friend and I sat and visited for a bit, he drinking coffee while I waited on ice so I could drink mine. About 10 minutes later our food arrived. The potatoes were wrong and many of them were a bit crunchy (to me not fully cooked) and certainly NOT what I ask for, not dark (but maybe I should have ordered them by the color I wanted them). The bacon was not crispy like I ask for. Two things they got right: The onions and the toast however there was NO butter on the side...oh and still NO ICE. I asked again. So the long and short of it I never got any ice, or butter, or potatoes as I ask for or bacon as I ordered it...so I drank no coffee but I did pay for it-heck of a deal right? Oh Yeah. I really do not understand what the problem is. Maybe I am the problem?......for wanting my food the way I want my food. That's great. I wonder why every time I try this place if the servers write down what I ask and if they do, do the cooks not comply? Or is it just sloppiness on the part of the server to not check if the food is right before bringing it to the table. .....and then a tip? For what-not doing your job? I may be 71 years old but I am awake enough to remember what I ordered. In closing, neighbors on both sides of me a two across the street all agree on the lackluster service and dismissive attitude of the help as well as the delivery of food usually not like they ordered and consistently having to hound the servers for what they want. All of us could walk there but no one does. I know nothing about leadership in this business but something is systemically wrong with the concept of this place. ...Alas......I am certain that I will receive the same A I created apology from last year thanking me for my concerns. Birthday mode activated I'm grabbing brunch with friends on Sunday morning, but honestly, I'm not sure why we always forget to document it. Either way, our three hour conversation made up for it. I would suggest if you want to come to first watch and not have to wait in line between 8:00and 8:30 is your best choice. We all had the traditional eggs, bacon, hashbrowns toast , I had a mint Chocolate Chip iced coffee. I do have to say I passed by establishment multiple times not really knowing that it was a first watch. Service was good. The First Watch on Fairway has to be one of my favorite locations. The front reception attendee was very welcoming and there was ample space for waiting until the table was ready. Our server was attentive and kind. The food was delicious. Stopped in to this location for the first time in awhile. We were seated immediately but after waiting awhile at our table we had to ask the host who our server was. She came up about that time. She was friendly and our orders were correct. The food was consistently good as most First Watch locations. They got our orders correct. Went for some brunch today with some friends I hadn't seen in awhile. First Watch is always a go-to option for a good and fresh meal, but I had never been to this location until today. For coming in at about noon we were immediately seated which was fantastic! At most of the other locations we frequent, we typically wait anywhere up to an hour during the weekend. The server immediately took drink orders, and by the time he came back we all knew what we wanted to eat. The food came out fast and it was all delicious and just how we ordered it! I highly recommend trying one of the seasonal offerings when you go in, they've always got something great on there! My only complaint would be that the parking lot is super hard to find a space being the grocery store is right next door. read more

Also noticed an extra .50 added to the receipt for it, didn't question it but at $6.59 for one pancake plus the added .50 that's pretty damn pricey. I've grown up going to this First Watch. I've seen it go through many changes and have stuck it out and kept coming back! I have always been of the opinion that the food/drinks are a tad overpriced here. It just depends on what you get. The menu options are great and sometimes unique though! One thing that bugged me the last time around is that we put our names on the wait list, but got cut in front of at least four times from people who had checked in online. Now I know, so it won't be a problem next time, but I at least wish they would have let me know when we got there to do this or at least let me know how many people were ahead of me. This is a fan favorite breakfast restaurant for my family when I visit. I have been here a handful of times. I usually stick with the Sunrise Granola. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, so when I do go out for breakfast I try to keep it as simple as possible. This time I decided to get the Eggs Benedict-Florentine, however I'm allergic to Avocados, so I asked for it without Avocados. The waitress repeated this back to me, and all was well. My SIS and Mom ordered from their 'Spring Menu' the Salmon Toast. I have a bite of my mom's and it was delicious. My nephew got some eggs, toast, and bacon. I'd say he ate 90% of his meal, he enjoyed it, plus he is a growing boy. My Mom and SIS really like their Salmon toast. For my dish, I started with the arugula side salad that was included. It was yummy, and it was dressed evenly, and not overdone. The Eggs Benedict was a nice change of pace for me, I ate 1/2 and started to feel sick, I tried not to think about it, and powered through. As I cut into the other half, I noticed there was a piece of Avocado on the breading. I moved it off with the fork, and didn't eat the bread, egg, or spinach it touched. However, I was already feeling sick. My Mom and SIS could tell I was in pain and when my mother went to pay, she told them about the mishap, they discounted her a portion of my meal only. I had a drive home back to Minnesota after that, and it was the most uncomfortable 7 hours. Most people think an allergic reaction to food, is puffy, swelling, can't breathe, which is all true, however, when I ingest Avocados, I get very ill, sharp pains in my stomach, throwing up, sweating, etc. Like I said, most uncomfortable 7-hour drive back to MN. I was later talking with my mother and blamed myself for trying something new, at a restaurant my whole family enjoys. My mother pointed out however, that it isn't my fault, and frankly they should have compensated my whole meal. I am not going to dock this review a star because I know in the past I haven't had a problem, and the staff has always been very friendly. Maybe I should have stated I'm allergic, but I didn't. I now know for the future. I mostly feel horrible my mother ended up paying for my meal. read more

The Fairway, KS location is my local restaurant. The wait is usually less than other locations. The food is wonderful and fresh. My favorite is the A.M. Superfoods Bowl with a Kale Tonic. If having an alcohol included brunch, and you have a sweet tooth, I recommend the Cereal Milk drink. The seasonal specials are always worth a try. My favorite waitress is Shirley. The managers are very responsive and during busy times they chip in and help. Their humility and kindness are admirable. The music level is sometimes loud, but they have turned it down for us during slower times of the day. The best seat to avoid the noise is the 2 seat table on the upper level in the back next to the kitchen wall. read more

The marketing folks at First Watch have been busy studying up on the trends with their recent rebranding. Distressed, farm house interior? Check. The word fresh in nearly every description? Check. Doing away with the Florida retirement home vibe? Double check. As someone who's around restaurants and restaurant trends for my job, I have to say... well done. Even with though the vibe is on the nose for this popular chain, it worked on me and I had an enjoyable brunch here with my wife and occasionally screaming infant. The menu is totally revamped with more of a healthy, upscale vibe and the food is better than it was. It was mid-summer so I got an heirloom tomato and burrata covered toast with two eggs. Simple, fresh (TM) and delicious. My wife got some kind of fancy parfait that would be a snack for me but was a meal for her and she really liked it. Our server was endearing, likely high school age finding her way through and holding her own. OH I almost forgot, you can add yourself to their waitlist on Yelp which is pretty sweet. Say you're fifteen minutes away, just pop onto Yelp, hit "add to waitlist" and show the host(ess) and you'll be good to go. I'd give this location the nod over the often chaotic Westport location as you have the nice Fairway shops and neighborhoods surrounding it and ease of access of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Glad to rediscover this little joint for the occasional family brunch. read more

I have been patiently waiting for the day that I would be disappointed by the Belgium waffle at first watch - like somehow that amazing first bite I had months ago was a fluke or the byproduct of a new treat. I continue to wait for that day, because it refuses to come. I'm all for healthy food- if it tastes good. My biscuits and gravy were "meh" (made with turkey sausage which I'm sure produced little to no grease, which flavors biscuits and gravy properly). They say their biscuits are freshly baked in house, but mine tasted like two day-old frozen then microwaved biscuits. I need to stop trying to find good biscuits and gravy and start selling my own. I've yet to find good ones anywhere I've tried so far...I will say the bacon I had was delicious and perfectly cooked. My daughter thoroughly loved her plate-sized chocolate chip pancake, as I would hope for an expensive pancake. We ordered the kids meal and a side plate of biscuits and gravy with hot tea and it was still almost $20. That's just awfully expensive, especially for a place where I waited 40 minutes to be sat and 30 more for basic foods. That's appalling for breakfast. Was there only one cook? The place was clean and our server was super friendly (even with a bad knee going up and down wood stairs!) so I gave a star extra for that. I doubt anyone will convince me to overpay for a very long breakfast experience that just tasted 'ok' for "excellent" prices anytime soon. read more

This is definitely my favorite breakfast place ever! At first I thought it was "too healthy" haha! I imagined everyone had kale and spinach eggs with kale smoothies and avocado toast.. just everything green pretty much. Although there is avocado toast (and it's delicious) there is SO much more! My new favorite dish here (currently) is the Mexican corn hash but it's a summer item so sadly it won't be around forever. It has chorizo and you can get the eggs anyway you want them, I got over medium. It comes with lime and corn tortillas and tastes just like the perfect street taco brunch dish. I'm going to be sad to see this one go. So many people I know order pancakes and waffles here too. Not only are they soft and fluffy and yummy but you can get a lot of delicious fruit on top to make it even better. This place is good, try it!! Le Peep is still my favorite breakfast spot, but First Watch is really good, and has some good, healthier choices than Le Peep. Their coffee is delicious, and they have flavored creams available that you can add in, but they don't do espresso drinks- while Le Peep does have an espresso machine, and makes them amazingly well. I've tried lots of things on their menu and it's all good, although nothing is blow-my-socks-off incredible. The Tri-Athlete is good, as is the Floridian French Toast, and the Southwest Crepeggs. I'm not a pancake fan, but my family loves their pancakes. They have some new Quinoa bowls that are ok, but lacking some flavor. The Avocado Toast was underwhelming. I hope the other locations are getting the same updated decor treatment that the Fairway location has- it's very fresh and modern looking. Parking at the Fairway location can be a hassle, and expect a wait here in the mornings, especially on weekends. read more

I visited First Watch before heading to work. First Watch is never my first choice for breakfast food but it sounded tasty so I decided I would give it a chance. I got an omelette called "The Works" but I had them hold all the veggies. (Darn me, I'm picky). Anyway, my food came and the omelette was packed with meat. Which, normally I wouldn't mind but it was almost too much. There was hardly any egg to accompany all the sauce and bacon. There was also a boat load off cheese. Needless to say, I only ate about half. The breakfast potatoes were tasty, as was the toast. I also got an iced coffee but it tasted more like chocolate milk than coffee. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday at 12:30 so I would suggest visiting around that time. My waitress was sweet but once she brought my check and I hung around reading, she never really came back to see if I wanted more coffee or anything. read more

This is probably the nicest First Watch I've been to. It feels a little more farmhouse chic than the others (LOL). They also have a seat-yourself communal table. I think that's pretty neat! I brought two friends here because they had never been and they both ordered chocolate chip pancakes. Both agreed the pancakes were delicious. Everyone on staff seemed really approachable and we enjoyed the service and timing of our food. I'll admit that we all agreed the portioning of sides was a little underwhelming, but quality was terrific. My poached egg was closer to a hard boiled egg and I definitely wouldn't have said no to ONE more sausage link, but overall, this is a pretty decent place to grab breakfast or lunch. Pricing is a bit high for what you get, but quality really fills the gap for quantity. And that, folks, is about all I need to be satisfied with breakfast! read more

Good but wasn't Great. I recognized the name from another out of state location and decided to give it a shot. I order the BLT Benedict, my wife ordered the Chickichanga...chickichanga is the reason we have four instead of three stars. Thing is bomb and very well done breakfast fusion. We also split the lemon ricotta pancakes, wish there had been more lemon ricotta cream. Nothing particularly stood out in my Benedict. The hollandaise was rather bland but not gross. Fortunately they still have their Watermelon Sunrise, 10/10 would recommend. Since this is a franchise, this location may have just been off this morning, but nothing really to knock the brand as a whole. read more

The staff are warm and friendly, the layout of the restaurant is good, and the food is delicious. The coffee is expensive (unlimited refills but it's what I believe is drip coffee rather than espresso); the portions are on the small side; and there are too many menu items, which makes it feel like an applebees or something. My dining companion ordered the french toast with a side of million-dollar bacon (which serves two), but we were not aware that the french toast already comes with a side of bacon, and the server did not alert us to the fact that they were effectively ordering three portions of bacon. A moment to clarify that they were, indeed, after three orders of bacon would have been welcome. Instead we required a box for most of the bacon. I almost hate to admit how much I love this place. I'm addicted. First of all: the coffee. It's not your standard restaurant coffee, it's not just drinkable, but it can actually stand on it's own two feet. However, if you like creamer or flavorings they have plenty of half and half, vanilla creamer, and hazelnut creamer on the table. The best part? The fact that they give you an entire pot of coffee...none of this "by the mug full" nonsense or waiting for refills. Everyone has their ideal egg. I love poached, over easy, and occasionally scrambled. Every time, the eggs are fresh and cooked to perfection. Only one time did my poached egg come out with a solidified yolk. I informed the waitress, and within 60 seconds I had a new, perfectly poached egg. (They actually offered to remake the entire eggs benedict meal, but I'm not one to waste food). Speaking of the eggs benedict, it's the best I've ever had. Period. The first time I ordered it, I asked for the smoked turkey and avocado, and have never looked back. The combination of flavors is wonderful, and the portion is such that I can never eat the whole thing. Half order, anyone? Another favorite breakfast item of mine is the avocado, bacon, and tomato skillet. (Yes, I love avocados). A base of potatoes covered in melted cheese and the other ingredients mentioned is a true comfort food. I've also had their breakfast burrito, crepe eggs (sweet and thin), and fresh fruit crepes. All are wonderful, but I can't get over my love affair with the eggs benedict hollandaise sauce! There is no way I can say enough good things about the service or the management to even come close to how stellar they are. The entire waitstaff is friendly, and they have a sense of community and camaraderie that enhances their service to their patrons. Once you've been in a few times, the managers learn your name and the waitstaff remembers your drink order. I'm also the type of person who likes to take my time, and sometimes get some work done after breakfast. Everyone makes sure that you know you can take your sweet time, and leave anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours after you come in. As other reviewers have mentioned, they do get super busy on weekends. But even when they are busy, the wait is usually no more than 10-20 minutes, and the food and service are worth the wait. Overall, this place is a great way to start the day out.
