I was working in the Terre Haute area and had a cold. One of my go to foods when I do is Chinese chicken noodle soup. So I ordered from here. It was ok. This is a delivery order so I can't comment on the restaurant. They don't have a hearty chicken broth based soup with lots of chicken and vegetables. This was sort of a weaker version of Cambell's soup with what I can only imagine are frozen chicken meat pieces thrown in. About all I enjoyed was that it was something hot to drink which is nice when you're working with a cold. I did additionally order the sesame beef for something hearty later in the shift. It too was ok. I can say the broccoli was fresh and crunchy. The pieces of beef were breaded and fried so sometimes a little dry on the inside, but the sauce was good despite my diminished sense of taste. Always loved 1st Wok until the older lady retired. Not they've got some smug kid taking orders and he messes your order up, I'd have to say, on purpose. I ask for a LARGE meal and he gave me a small. When I asked why he said that the "meal" is a small. Even though I had asked for a Large 3 times. But because I said the word meal after large he gave me a small. I've eaten at first wok many times over the years, but my most recent visit surprised me with the best orange chicken I've had at any Chinese establishment. The egg rolls, crab rangoon, general tso chicken and sweet and sour mixed meats were great as well. As always, the staff is attentive and friendly. This place is cash only, but with plenty of nearby atms, you won't have a problem. Dine in or carryout will be quick, clean and neat for a wonderful experience. read more

I have been visiting this restaurant for takeout for over 20 years without any issues in food quality, cleanliness, or customer service. I don't not recommend dine-in however due to a small seating area and bad drink selection. I recommend getting the lunch specials which have about 20 different entree options that all come with rice and either soup or crab rangoon. With great regret last night was our last time ordering from them. For years they were the go-to place for rake out Chinese. Around the Covid time they let the quality of their food go. I wrote it off as the place being skittish about serving people as shown by their sally port food transfer gizmo. Absolutely the best hot and sour soup that I have tasted in years. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the egg drop soup as well. The General tsos chicken left a little bit to be desired. We tried First Wok for the first time recently since the reviews weren't too bad. I doubt that we'll try it again. Ordering was fine, and although most of the "Vegetable" options (and all spring rolls and egg rolls) had some kind of meat in them, we were able to find some vegetarian dishes. Upon pickup, I found that they were a Cash Only business so I (as well as the gentleman in front of me) had to leave to go get cash. The food turned out to be serviceable and unexciting, however when I opened my Bean curd in garlic sauce, there was a big piece of meat staring at me. I called to let them know, and the woman on the phone was argumentative, saying that she was sure it was the bean curd because it can look like meat. I assured her that the bean curd was square chunks of tofu, and this was a piece of fried meat. My advice is to skip it. Royal Mandarin or Eastern House are probably a better bet. read more

Best chinese in town hands down. I wont eat anywhere else. They have been operating at the very least since I was in high school 15 years ago and Im sure much longer, and they have kept their consistent quality and SANITARY (important for an asian place like this, many are not clean) standards the whole time. Staff, a little rough around the edges but find me a place like this where they arent, lol. I think its charming. The lady behind the counter who took my order was very friendly, and even brought the food to my table. (The one star I'm giving is for her.) However, I was very disappointed in the quality of the food given the number of good reviews on here. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken (Chicken with Peanuts) and it was not as pictured on the menu. The veggies were all wrong for Kung Pao: baby corn, mushroom, shiitake mushroom, and celery. The dish was bland and not spicy. Perhaps the Kung Pao is not their best dish, but based on this visit I recommend that this hole in the wall be patched. read more

I've been enjoying this food since the early 90's and your order is always fast, fresh and consistently delicious. The fact they only accept cash can be an inconvenience at times however. The General Tzo's is the best around with lots of big, fresh broccoli heads, nice chunks of white meat chicken and a kick if you request extra spicy. I've preferred their PFR over all others in town for some reason; I mean it's just rice right? The brown sauce is spot-on as is the moo shu. Not on the menu? After craving Chinese food for a week, Friday was finally here and I was ready to chow down on some General Tso's chicken. We parked and walked to the door to find a long line and almost left because we didn't want to wait. In hindsight, it probably would have been better to go elsewhere. The chicken looked pale, as if there was no sauce. It ended up that there was enough sauce on the chicken but the presentation was not there. If you're expecting the chicken that is used in General Tso's to be the same as the chicken fingers used in sweet and sour chicken, this is the General Tso's for you. I, however, have never had that kind of chicken used in General Tso's. The chicken pieces seemed too large for the dish, I wish they would have at least been cut in half. I felt as though the sauce used in this dish was a little too spicy for my taste. The rice, however, was not that bad. For my dish though, I was expecting to get white rice and instead received pork fried rice. I'm not complaining though, I love pork fried rice! The rice was moist and flavorful, probably my favorite part. The atmosphere was that of a typical Chinese place. The service was quick even though there was a long line and the food was cheap. We got two orders of General Tso's and a large pork fried rice on the side for just barely over $20 dollars. I would not go back to this Chinese place unless I could find nothing better in Terre Haute. read more

Not sure how long this place has been around, but it's probably a good thing I didn't know about it in college. Was introduced to it in 2000. I've made trips from Indy for it & any road trip west has to include a stop! Can speak for the rest of the menu, but for the price I've not had better General's or Sesame chicken. The best part by far is that they only use breast meat. It's not much to look at from the inside or out, but there is seating enough for off hours. There are several Chinese/Asian restaurants in Terre Haute, but this one is our favorite. My family and I have literally come here for decades. In that time, we have sampled pretty much everything on the menu and have enjoyed it all. The prices are definitely affordable, and the daily lunch specials are even more so. They will also glady make a spicy dish mild for you, and a mild dish spicier, or as spicy as you want.
