This restaurant has an extensive menu full of dishes that I love. It was hard to decide with so many options. We started with the spicy cucumber salad, the woodear mushrooms crab Rangoon and hot and sour soup. The soup was that perfect mix of pepper and sour. It tasted like it had been cooking down for a while and was perfectly seasoned. I would recommend it for sure. I was glad it didn't have any meat in it. The cucumber salad ordered spicy was exactly that. Cucumbers and a spicy sauce. It was served cold. I really enjoyed the simple yet flavorful combination. The mushroom dish had a similar sauce and similar flavor. I would order them both again. My least favorite dish were the rangoons. They were pretty oily and so bland in comparison with everything else. My entree was ordered extra spicy. It had some heat, but was less than I was expecting. It came with a nice sized bowl of white rice The portion size of all of the food was good for the price. Our service was excellent. Engaging and friendly. I believe he said his name was Jack. One that was sort of off putting was the smell as you walked in. It was like musty standing water. I wonder if it's was from the large water feature. I went to Sichuan House because Yelp had them listed as 4 stars out of 5, but I beg to differ. For $36 we received 2 entrees and an order of egg rolls. The price wasn't bad, but the ordering/pick up was beyond weird. The cashier took our order in very broken English and I wasn't every sure the order was correct. She took the money and basically shut the order window and walked away. No receipt, not time frame, no "bye". We walked around the block while we waited and when we returned to the pick up area, we sat and waited, and waited, and waited. There was an order waiting for pick up when we arrived the first time that was still there when we left. Urg! The food was good, but not great and the egg rolls were more like spring rolls. The outside of this restaurant barely gives you a glimpse of what awaits you inside. We are always looking for another great hidden gem in each town we visit, and this is one of those places. They have a large menu to choose from, which can be a bit overwhelming. However, anything you choose, I am sure will be very flavorful. My wife got the chicken fried rice and chicken and broccoli. She said it was the best she had ever had. I had the pork stir-fried Lo Mein, again one of the best I have had. I also ordered the fried wonton, and it was good. Our kids also raved over what they had. One ate Beef fried rice, while the other had crab rangoons and regular stir-fried Lo Mein. I have never seen them eat so much. read more

Over this whole COVID-19 period, we've done multiple deliveries/curbside pick-ups from Sichuan House. I haven't had a chance to try out many other Chinese food places in Lafayette/West Lafayette, except for Peppercorns Kitchen, so I don't have a lot to compare with locally. Their service is prompt and only on one occasion did they get our order wrong. Portions are good sized and prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, most of their takeaway dishes come in plastic containers. Hope they'll make changes to that soon. Food is good. The reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because certain dishes have turned out differently to what I'm used to. For example, on two occasions the kung pao chicken had been deep fried. Traditionally (correct me if I'm wrong), kung pao chicken is not a deep fried dish. Their vegetarian mapo tofu is really yum - I'd definitely recommend that. My other major concern with their food is that they use a LOT of oil. I usually end up scooping out multiple tablespoons of oil before eating. Please, please cut back on how much oil you guys use. The owner is rude. We were driving to Ohio from Chicago. And stopped here for some greasy Chinese food. What we ended up getting was some amazing Singapore noodles and fried rice. The other problem was we didn't order fried rice. We ordered sesame chicken. My husband came back to the car with a small bag that had two entrees and the four veggie spring rolls. I would pass on the spring rolls. They were pretty hollow on the inside. When we realize we got the wrong order. And I placed the order so I know the owner just must not have understood me. We were thinking about going back inside but my husband had such a hard time getting sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls that we decided to roll with it. I say rude but he was just very frugal with his items. He handed my husband the bag after my husband paid. My husband wanted sweet and sour a fork and hot oil. My husband left with one of these items. Apparently they don't have forks, they had a hot oil at one point but a customer complained about it and so he stopped serving it. Now the sweet and sour we did get was only after the guy mumbled around to find words to say. Okay I'll get you some. Could tell he wanted to charge him for the item but even he knew that would be over the top seeing as how my husband paid and it was a small condiment. Anyways, the food was great. We found this little place while visiting Lafayette and wanted something different. It is a more traditional Chinese restaurant and less what I would call Americanized dishes. For example, crispy spicy pork intestines, ox tongue and tripe, pickled pepper bullfrog legs, you know, items you wouldn't likely see at your typical Chinese buffet restaurant. Food was mid, a little bit small portioned for the amount they charged, but tasted ok. Real problem is with the charges. My bowl of noodles was 12.95. They automatically charged 18% gratuity for service for one person, and an extra convenience charge that was high at 66 cents. The tax was also calculated based on additional charges from what I could see. Did not note anywhere that these charges were going to be applied to my bill, so definitely some sketchy robbery. Feeling really homesick for some good Chinese food, I ordered takeout from here - specifically mapo tofu and the braised bok choy with garlic and rice (it's my go-to order now) - and was so touched by the flavor and seasoning that I teared up. Paid about $80 bucks here for two appetizers and two entrees. There is an automatic tip of 18% even though the waitress came to our table just to take our order and drop off dishes. Be aware of the 12pt Times New Roman font "warning" on the front of the door that says the prices in the menu are incorrect. Dishes can be $2-$5 more! Flavors are good but the vibes were ruined by the poor service and inaccurate prices. Will come back to give it a another chance because I want to support Asian Businesses. read more

They explain theyy are not happy when customers come in late. i can still come if I want to...I was like ok and ended up getting something else Tuesday night I went there and ordered fried duck. They gave me a spicy cabbage free and I asked if I can have another one. I was told NO. He proceeded to explain there was a customer who requested that before and since then they made a rule that no one can have an extra cabbage..I was like fine Fried duck came very bland so I requested chilly oil for extra flavoring. At the end of the meal I requested a to go box and asked for a container for chilly oil. He told me he does not have a container for chilly oil The bill came and turned out to be $30 for a $20 duck ($1.50 extra rice if I am not mistaken)...Turned out they charged 18% mandatory tips. Wow. Absolutely amazing! If you want authentic Chinese, this is it! Very nice decor inside. The man serving us was most helpful. My husband didn't know what he wanted so the man asked what he liked and ordered for him. How fun! I ordered shredded pork with garlic. The same server suggested a type of edible fungus with it. Very delicious. It reminded me of cooked cabbage. I guess it's supposed to be super healthy for you. The portion sizes are very large. The egg drop soup came with enough to feed 3-4 people. My husbands dish, and mine definitely could've served 2 people as well. Unfortunately they weren't able to have one of their imported beer in stock due to the pandemic. I don't think they had a coke machine, but they had canned coke products and bottled tea. I just had water with my meal. I'm definitely coming back here. First time trying this place and I was pleased. I tired the Hunan Chicken and the Mapo Tofu for entrees and the spring rolls and scallion pancake as appetizers. Spring rolls were some of the best I've had. Worth it for sure. Scallion pancake was ok, but would be better in person. It was chewy after delivery. I get Grubhub delivery all the time. Never even been in the restaurant. So this is entirely based on food and it is *easily* the best Chinese food in town (real Chinese food, not American stuff). It's to the point where I randomly order new stuff each time and it's always always good. It's hard to believe they have that many delicious sauces and flavors. Not cheap Chinese food - go to the American style takeout for that. This stuff is excellent. Today it was twice cooked pork (with garlic bolt), Moo Shoo Vegetable, Dry Braised Beef & Eggplant with chili garlic sauce. Only thing I ever had before was eggplant and every one of these meals was perfect. Ok, maybe the green pepper in the beef dish could been smaller so they actually got cooked. Sichuan House is previously Ichiban I believe. They remodeled everything and the restaurant decor is really nice now. I only tried one dish (Twice cooked pork) so this isn't a though review, but my first impression is that I would go back again. Overall I would give the quality of the dish 9/10. It was almost perfect but some of the veggies were not thoroughly cooked so there was a bit of raw vegetable taste (mainly in the onion, I think they threw in the peppers and onions at the same time but onions take longer to cook). It was a little pricy at $13, but that was reflected in the quality of the ingredients (Fresh vegetables and good quality pork). They gave me a random 10% discount, but charge 18% tip reguardless. read more
