We were a little hesitant based on the appearance, but once we got inside and saw the restaurant was bursting at the seams with college students, we knew we'd found a new spot. I love the bento boxes and they have a great sushi menu. The ramen can be customized and they load it with protein. When this restaurant first opened the food was a good American adaptation of Japanese food. I really enjoy good hibachi food. Originally the food was very flavorful. I need to be honest I do not eat the sushi or the ramen which looks like it might be pretty good. The last two times I have had the filet and shrimp hibachi dinner it has been really underwhelming. The meat and the shrimp had no flavor. None. I lived in Japan for three years so I have an idea of how Japanese food should taste. The people that work at the restaurant are very nice. However, the cook seems like he was pulled off the street in Naha, given 15 minutes of cooking instruction and was named chef. The intricate dedication to the craft of cooking true Japanese chefs display, is woefully missing. What started out as an excellent example of Japanese cuisine in rural Indiana has turned into a bland knock off playing off of the anticipation the Name Tokyo steakhouse implies. I really want this restaurant to be successful and I really want them to move toward higher quality Japanese cuisine. At least more flavorful. read more

I had been interested in coming here for a long time, yes I know it's a recycled Long John Silvers but you can't let that be a deciding factor. The decor and feel when you walk in was what you would expect, it was nice and I enjoyed just looking around the room. Service was very pleasant, it was a Monday so it was a bit slower but to be expected. The menu is very nice, decently priced, and accommodating to many, my wife has the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner, I decided to try The Monster Roll. Both were fantastic, you could taste the freshness of both plates. I will definitely be back, I feel like I just discovered a hidden gem in Greencastle, IN. read more

I moved to Greencastle a little over a year ago from Indy area and miss so many good food options, but Tokyo is one spot that makes that a little bit better! The food and service is always amazing. This ramen was so good and the pork was flavorful and tender! If you are thinking about going spicy go for it! It's just the right amount of heat without being insane. When I first drove past this place I passed it up since it's in an old Long John Silvers, but man am I glad I gave it another chance as the food is so authentic and super delicious. We ordered delivery via door dash and it was overall disappointing. My friend liked her teriyaki salmon, but my udon noodles were very bland. The chicken with it was okay. Located in an old Long John Silvers, we were a little wary of rural sushi - but we had poke bowls. Everyone was able to customize their meal choosing protein, veggies and sauces. My favorite things in my bowl were the pickled veggies and tofu. I'm not a big sashimi fan and didn't order any but the rolls looked good. I liked my bowl and would eat here again. Good sushi in Greencastle! We are a family who all enjoy sushi. We ate here not expecting much (and I was already thinking about where we might go in Indy or Terre Haute next time). We got some General Tso, cal Imari and a few sushi rolls. The calimari was just ok. Not worth the appetizer $ and we'll pass next time. The Tso was very good. Much better than some local buffet, crisp, hot and great sauce. The sushi was the best part. We only had one specialty roll (Godzilla) along with some shrimp tempura and a few inexpensive rolls to keep the cost reasonable. We were not disappointed. The service was fast, accurate and friendly. We will definitely be back and highly recommend trying Tokyo if you love sushi! read more

We went for a family birthday. We ordered sashimi and rolls and others ordered ramen, teriyaki and udon, so we had pretty much the range of what they offer. It was all acceptable, but in no way delightful. The sashimi was limited to the Big 4 (salmon, maguro tuna, white tune and yellow tail). It was about what you'd get for grocery store sushi. Smallish pieces (but at same time, price was only $5, so it was fair), not particularly fresh or select, but what do you expect in a small Indiana town? The rolls were acceptable, but not more. The ramen was good, the udon was fair, the teriyaki was competent. Given the lack of any meaningful alternatives for a quality dining experience in Greencastle, we'll be back I suppose. But it feels like eating in a Howard Johnson. One unmitigated negative is the bathroom, it is in need of a thorough cleaning. read more

I've only had sushi here and it is the best sushi. I'm comparing to to Hirosaki, Tin House, Ichiban, and Kabutos. This place wins hand down. One time they did make me mad because I ordered the three sushi rolls lunch special but because I didn't specify it was a lunch special they charged me full price. I sent them a couple Facebook messages and they gave me a coupon to cover the difference. I never used the coupon but they did "rectify" the situation though I would have preferred the money go back on my card. Stopped going for a while after that but I've gone recently and have had nothing but great experiences. read more

Great food, funky vibe, lovely staff. The sushi is exemplary, the Hibachi a bit of a monochrome flavor, but still tasty.

I'm not a Japanese connoisseur, but I had filet and vegetable diner. My wife had teriyaki chicken with California rolls. My plate was very good. Not a lot of steak to be had in it though. Her California rolls were excellent but the chicken was all dark meat. The steak was good but not much of it. Some items were good enough that we may try it again. read more

My boyfriend and I came in for lunch. We ordered an appetizer that we had ordered before and it was nasty this time. We told our server and she refused to take it off of our bill. A few bites into my fried rice I found a hair in my food. The waitress put her fingers in my food and told me that the hair didn't come from them. Again they refused to do anything about it. If you enjoy sushi, PLEASE avoid this place. The sushi tasted like it was spoiled. When our waitress asked how everything was, I expressed to her how the fish tasted off and she chose to argue with me instead. Upon receiving my bill, I was charged for the roll. I was not offered to have my order swapped out for something else or refunded for that matter. Extremely poor food and customer service. The portions are good sized, the sushi is good! They use to much fish sauce in the miso soup, the salad is just lettuce that has ginger dressing that is thinned to much with water. Service is always good, they are a fairly new restaurant and just need to tweak a few things!!! read more
