The social worker explained there is nothing governing these places so it is important to go visit them in person before choosing. My brother and his wife live in Libertyville, IL. They had experience with Manor Care because his wife's mother had been a patient the year before. My Mother stayed at Manor Care aprox. 2 months. It was a wonderful experience. She was well cared for. The staff was incredible- caring, attentive, patient. The facility was well maintained. They offered simple but ever so important services like a hair salon. I can't say enough positive things about Manor Care in 2017. Flash forward to Manor Care 2021. My Mother had another fall and went there for 2 months. Nothing is the same. Mind you it's Covid Pandemic and I have taken that into consideration. But as of today I would not put my Mother back in Manor Care. This time around the staff was , let's just say that they need to hire people that have experience with old people. The current staff has no patience. They don't think helping a patient change their compression socks is part of their job.. My Mother weighs all of 96 lbs. She takes pride in her appearance. She's starting to get confused. They didn't care. They gave her too much miralax and she had an accident. They were not about to help her change. What made this so much worse was 1st the 2 week quarantine. My Mother was vaccinated as was my brother and myself. Even after the 2 week quarantine we were not allowed in person visits. We could go stand outside her window and talk to her on the phone.. The receptionist let my brother go inside in person one time. That was huge! I hope I don't get that person in trouble for writing this. But it made a big difference in my Mother's mental state. Due to covid there is no hair salon service, which to an older lady is so important... I cannot stress that enough. There is no Doctor for the patients or family to talk to . My Mother was in severe pain. NWC Hospital prescribed pain meds before they released her.. Manor Care said they didn't know about any meds and there is no Doctor there to handle this type of issue. My Mother takes a sleeping pill every night. Otherwise she cannot sleep, is up all night , has night terrors etc. Again, Manor Care didn't have any instructions to give her anything. Just trying to get ahold of my Mother's nurse(s) was next to impossible. I asked for a call back at their convenience, multiple times. I could not speak to anyone when I called no matter what time of the day. My Mother is not a big eater. She lost 13 lbs during this last stay. Four years ago Manor Care offered a Menu with choices for all 3 meals. Not anymore. My Mother can't afford a 13 lb weight loss. Manor Care is a family owned company. To the 2 brothers that run it: Please look into fixing these type of issues. My Mother just had another fall today and is in the hospital. It looks like she will need to be put in another aftercare. Manor Care is conveniently located 10 blocks from my brother's house. I dread the thought of my Mother going back there. Manor Care is very expensive. For the amount of money they get per patient - the level of care and service is absolutely terrible. I understand that Seniors can be difficult. Laws affect what the staff can and cannot do. I'm grateful my Mother made it home. I'm grateful she wasn't abused or hurt by the staff, which happens all the time in some of these places. They get away with it by paying off the families with a gag order settlement. It gets swept under the rug and the facilities aren't held accountable. Make sure you research any place before you choose one.

He was…read moreneglected, when asked for a bed pan, 30 minutes later no bed pan, i went up to the nurses desk & no one cared til i yelled, no one helped him eat as he couldn't on his own, they only did therapy for 15 minutes once a day, & forced to lay in a broken bed the rest of the time. my dad complained & they just released him. His doctor was irate. I would not sent my worst enemy here. PLEASE do not take your loved one here.

I needed someone to stay at the hospital during the procedure and then take me home after. I met with Ryan who took all my information and matched me with one of their care givers, Daria. Daria was fabulous. My procedure meant I needed to be at the hospital at 5:30am. Ugh. We left my home at 4:30am and Daria didn't bat an eye at the time. Afterward, Daria pulled the car up to the hospital door, helped me in and took me to Target to help me get the one lens from my glasses removed that corresponded with the eye that just had surgery. Unfortunately, I was in a tremendous amount of pain and Daria was there every step of the way. I have already requested her for my second cataract surgery. I cannot say enough praise for Comfort Keepers and especially for Daria.

Right At Home was entirely unlike this. A Josh Steiner came to our house to evaluate our home and get an overall idea on what services we required and which employees would best fit. Following this a gentleman named Zach Steiner came by with an employee to introduce and get started with us. As far as communication about employees and poss schedule change i have mostly dealt with Stephanie in the office who has always had a pleasant attitude and speaks very professionally on matters at hand. Some employees we have had for a weekly schedule but when needed they sent a fill in that was polite and able to meet our needs fittingly. All the employees helped us in all ways even when we have to leave the site for shopping or go on an appointment. I was both surprised and very pleased with the quality of nursing professionals at Northern Rose. The CEO is intensive care trained, as was the RN she sent to my home. Both were insightful, smart, and so helpful with suggestions regarding my plan of care. The physical therapists sent by Northern Rose were so very much more helpful than the physical therapists at the "rehab" center I was recently discharged from. I progressed more in just a few sessions with them, than I had during several weeks at the center.
