Ed and Steve, from Fisch Brothers, drilled a well for one of my client in Napa County, Calistoga, early 2024 in pouring rain! They did a great job. They drilled exactly where I wanted them to drill, got 60gpm +/-, at a decent depth. They were very careful with the run offs with good communication and they left the place very clean. Sure we had to wait in line to get started, like everybody else, but a lot of the wait was waiting for the Napa county permit. No surprise in the price, we got charged what we were told. Fisch Brothers destroyed our family KOI and swim pond. They dumped 30,000 gallons of drilling process waste material into the pond and down into Sonoma Creek. We can no longer swim in the pond. Hundreds of fish are at risk. I don't think anything will live in the muck that they pushed into the waterways. When I asked Ed for help cleaning up the mess around and in the pond - he refused and drove off. The sad thing is that I spent $5000 making a road and trench for them to use. I have never been yelled at the way both Ed and his driller Steve yelled. I has been an unbelievable and cruel experience. We once had a well dug for irrigation in the southeast. It cost $800 for them to drill a few hundred feet. That was our only experience with having a well dug. Enter Sonoma and our need to have a well. A local pump company recommended we contact Fisch Bros. We did. The guy shows up and we discuss location, process, price, etc. I had relayed to him our concerns of the well costing $30k as we'd heard stories from folks in the area that it is difficult to get water in our location. And in one instance we were told folks down the road had paid $30k - he scoffed at the suggestion and said those companies aren't to be trusted. He further went on to explain he's been doing this for decades and knows our area well - we're in the "volcanics" and he always gets water and he is confident we'd have water at 200, 300 feet. I asked what that cost would be and the all-in range was $10k-$12k. My first warning should've been when I asked him for properties nearby where he has drilled and he couldn't readily provide any. We talked further and he sold me on his experience and confidence and the fact he was recommended by a reliable pump company. Just as he was getting into his truck he called me back over and motioned to some paperwork. He said he needed to have it for the office and for the county. He suggested if we didn't have something on paper they wouldn't process the permit. So he wrote the basics on the paper form and I saw a couple of things I questioned. One of them was a price per foot - I flinched at it and he said "...no, that's after we dig the first few hundred feet you pay $5k and then after that you pay per foot..... but we will have water within the first two or three hundred...". I then reiterated to him that 'worst case' we should be around $12k all-in for the well dig...? He confirmed. I signed the form - contract - and he left. Said he'd be back to dig as soon as the permit is approved. Similar to the review below and some other reviews on other sites - nothing for months. I finally called one day and he said he needed to come out to review the site again. He came out and we discussed location again. He said he was currently on a job elsewhere and ours would be next as the permit "...was just approved yesterday...". This was in fact false. I checked the county site online and it wasn't "yesterday". Second warning. He called me that evening and said the fires in the work area pushed them off a site and they could dig our well tomorrow. Otherwise we'd be waiting months again. So I confirmed. They dug the well. They got to 300' and no water... the guy onsite requested if ok to go further and we confirmed. (Pay attention here...). They got water around 500' and finished. They left. It took us by total surprise and shock the mess of mud, muck, piles of sand/rock/gravel. What was most upsetting is the $3k we had spent a month earlier on the gravel parking area where they dug only to have it ruined by their truck, muck, trench, etc. This was never clearly explained to us. Never. But had I read the contract it would've been right there in the fine print - they leave a mess and you clean it up. But, nothing hit worse than getting a $24k invoice in the mail from them. Yes. $24,000. We had been verbally advised we'd pay $5k for first few hundred feet then $40/foot afterward. But the contract didn't say that. And we were fully mistaken, remiss and at fault for not making the contract match what we were told. We should've read the fine print. I called Ed that evening and left a message which he returned the next morning. I began by asking how did we go from $12k to $24k...??? He claimed we never had those conversations and suggested he never said any of those things. I told him at that point there is nothing we could do but rest assured we'd never recommend him to anybody. He'd get his money but never would be speak kindly about his company. Further told him it should be obvious to him my shock at his invoice is confirmation my expectations weren't properly set. And as an experienced business person he might consider in the future making sure his non-experienced customer fully understands expectations. He dug deeper and said I was making this all up. I closed the call reminding him again he did a poor job setting expectations and clearly gave me bad information. I again said nothing to be done but pay his invoice and learn a hard lesson. After the call we traded a few emails. He continued denying any of the conversation. I never once suggested we wouldn't pay the invoice. In fact, I confirmed we'd be paying invoice since we had no other choice. A few days later we received a threatening letter from his strip mall lawyer that we'd be in court since we were refusing to pay his invoice. It hadn't even been thirty days since the invoice was issued. And never once did I refuse to pay the invoice. We did pay. We never received a confirmation of payment or a paid in full receipt. read more

If I could leave zero stars it would paint a more accurate picture of this operation. We had Fisch out back in January to give an estimate . Estimate received and agreed upon. They told us it would be March before they could get out. Every two weeks I'd call to check on their estimated start time frames and it was "probably 2 weeks out". Yesterday they tell me they have 90 jobs on the board and we are still a few weeks out. Today I get a return call and they say they are at least 2 months out. Seems they moved other jobs in front of us. Not concerned with their excuse that people are sick and are off for awhile. They could have communicated that to me months ago and I could have found another driller. As it stands now I'll have to find another driller and start at the end back if their line. So instead of a new well in March I'll be lucky to have one by Thanksgiving. Stay away from this group. read more

Ed Fisch drilled the well at our house, no fuss and he did a great job. Our old well failed back in 2005 and needed a new well. Fisch Bothers did the job and because my septic is in the back yard, they needed to drill the well in the front. This added to the complication as they needed to setup the containment in my driveway. They did this without major incident, on-time and in a professional mater. It is hard to find local companies who stand behind their work, and my well has been flowing great ever since. The pressure is more then we need and the quality is drink out of the tap pure. What led me to write this review is my well controller went out a month ago. For anyone living in the country, you know what it feels like when you realize you have no water. Even though the control equipment was not installed by Ed, when I called him at 6:30 am, he picked up the phone and referred me to Jerry and Don Yager pump service. My controller was fixed and water was flowing by 8:00 am. Fisch Brothers is a first class organization who drills great wells, is professional, has integrity and always with a great attitude. And they have provided me with a great reference when I needed it most. I would recommend these guys to anyone. read more

Ed has helped me out so much. Above and beyond any of the other drillers in town. I was rebuilding a portable well drilling rig to take to Burkina Faso in West Africa deep in the bush. He was my mentor and guide and even gave us supplies to take with us. The rest of the drilling community offered us no help. I also know people who have used Fisch Bros. I think it is about time that I give them the rating they deserve. Over the years I have spoken with Ed Fisch about a well in the hills above West Dry Creek outside Healdsburg. He has drilled a few in the area with various degrees of success. My late family had always felt there was nothing worth pursuing and relied upon springs which are drying up with climate change. It is well known that ground water in the area it is "hit and miss". And, my road is 4x4 at best. Last December 2017 I was able to have Ed do a site visit....and his reply was "you probably have a 80% chance of hitting something being you are on the uprising easterly side of the fault line". So, I went ahead with a County permit....That took three months. And, then they only approved after lodging a complaint with my District Supervisor. In any event.....as soon as the weather dried out I received "The Call". I met with the Rig Foreman (Steve) the night before with his personal truck. His comment was "I'll have water here by Noon tomorrow". True to form he snaked his way up my road....set his rig up....raised his tower up through the tree tops and..... "down we went". On literally the only spot on my place flat enough for equipment of that size. At 80 feet the ground changed to gray chert stone. Steve changed the bit to carbide and off again. Moisture at 100 feet...... At 140 feet --- 10 gallons a minute (gpm)...Steve said "Fractured Greenstone....Keep Going"...and we did. Gathering more water all the way from small layers of fractured greenstone. At 360 feet he held up a sign 40+ gpm. I said "one more length and that's it". I knew at 380 feet the well bottom would be approximately the same level as the bottom of Lake Sonoma less than 3 miles westerly. About half way into that last 20 foot length the drill stem shook a bit and up shot a muddy / rocky geyser. Steve continued going the full 380 feet pulling up chunks of rock from whatever had erupted down there...... And, today my static level of water is just 95 feet from the surface....with a 3 HP pump set at 360 feet (265 feet of water atop it - and right above "the eruption cavern at 370 feet"). I am certain more water is available than I will ever need, nor use. The pump company who installed the submersible and surface pumps also attempted a yield test. They said it is one of the top 2 or 3 wells in the entire West Dry Creek Area. I'm now pumping a steady 35 gallons a minute...constantly with probably more than double that still available. I CANNOT recommend them enough. read more
