The boxes look cool and the portions are generous. Sadly, I think this is the first time I've struggled to finish some salmon sashimi because some pieces had harder/firmer texture, almost like chicken. I usually don't like chewing sashimi like that, so it's definitely not melt-in-your-mouth fresh type of fish. Order is nicely packed, ordered via doordash.
the summer bliss bowl is such an easy and worthy takeout option if you want to have some super fresh and yummy fish. decent portions and generous use of fish. hard to beat for value and simplicity of just having this for takeout
Ordered delivery on DoorDash and I don't know if this is the regular serving size or it's because I placed my order just 10 minutes before they closed but wow generous serving size and delicious fish - great high quality ahhh!! Fish in the box (lite) for $38. Great value imo
My hubby did well for Mothers Day this year, he ordered from Fish In The Box and we had a picnic at GGP. The quality of the fish was excellent and the presentation was very camera friendly. He ordered online and we did a quick pick up since the place is pretty small. Great sashimi fish box with fresh, high-quality fish and delicious flavors. I really like the variety they include (Ikura, Hokkaido Scallops, Blue Fin Negi Toro, Amaebi, Real Crab, Salmon Toro Over Rice). The deluxe box ($53) is definitely enough to share, so it feels worth the price even though it's high. When I visited around 12pm on a Saturday, quite a few items were already sold out, so it's a good idea to come earlier for the full selection. The shop itself is tucked into a small corner with limited seating and parking, so it's better suited for takeout.

The lite box serves 1 person and includes Ikura, Hokkaido Scallops with truffle oil, Negi Toro, Amaebi, Real Crab, Salmon Toro Over Rice. I would definitely order from Fish In The Box again.

Fish In The Box is the best place to go to when you're craving sushi + matcha combo! We stumbled upon this place one Friday evening and we were lucky to find street parking right in front! The inside is honestly super small with only about 3-4 tables but it seems like a lot of people get their food to-go from the amount of people coming in to pick up! As you enter, you order through an iPad kiosk and so we decided to get the Deluxe Box ($52) and Uji Matcha with Blueberry ($7.50). I was honestly super surprised that BOTH the sushi and matcha tasted high-quality and crazily delicious! I didn't really like the blueberry in my drink since I felt like it took away from the matcha flavor, but the matcha itself was the real star of the drink! It was very umami and I loved that the matcha wasn't grainy at all! As for the sushi box, I normally don't finish them but I ate every single bit of the Deluxe Box! I love that the presentation is of the sushi is pretty and that there wasn't too much rice either! I also think that their pricing is very reasonable because I've seen other places that are more expensive, but not as high quality as Fish In The Box! If you're not interested in something as big as the deluxe box, they have miniature box options as well as sushi rolls! Fish In The Box has genuinely been one of my fave SF finds this year and I'm looking forward to the next time I come back!

The unagi nigiri was the size of a nickel; the Ikura nigiri had 10 fish eggs; the California Roll had a sliver of avocado. Let's say the only tasty thing was the ginger. Poor quantity and no respect for their customers sending food out like this. As you can tell they didn't even bother showing my photos. I reached out to Uber Eats, and they informed me that they don't offer refunds. Wow! So restaurants don't have any accountability for what they serve their customers. I will walk into Fish In The Box to demand a refund.

We also ordered the salmon zuke box, and it came with fresh salmon over rice and on the side they put the egg yolk that you put over it. Everything paired really well together and tasted so fresh. Overall, everything was so delicious, fresh and well prepared. We'll definitely be back!

Haven't been back since they rebranded or changed from Amitis a few years ago. Recently tried Fish In The Box. The sushi was yummy. Especially like the Mini Kaisen. Pretty to look at and very tasty. Definitely trying more items in the near future. Located on Masonic and Hayes. read more

Got two boxes for delivery and the packaging was very nice and sturdy. The branding is cute and I love the presentation. Didn't realize one of the boxes is heavy on truffle flavor (I'm not a fan of truffle). The other box was great though and I loved the crab, scallop, and huge salmon pieces in it. The salmon is one of the best cuts of salmon I've ever had. The portion is quite big and I was very full halfway through eating it. Love the tiny squeeze bottles of soy sauce! It's quite pricey but a nice treat for a special occasion :) read more

The truffle harmony bowl was So Good!! Truffle flavor didn't overwhelm the fish and the salmon was so Juicy Tuna Sunset was a little too overpowered by the sauce but I still enjoyed it. def wanna come back for the boxes read more

4.5 I am always looking for good fish boxes and matcha, and this place caught my attention. I ordered from the kiosk and sat at a table. I believe there were QR codes at the tables as well, but its ok. The workers knew where I was anyways :) Items came out pretty quickly and they were friendly! I got the strawberry milk with matcha cream top, deluxe box (for 1), Toro Toro Roll, and Bonky Roll. I was pleasantly surprised with how good and creamy the matcha was!! The deluxe box was really good, and presented nicely! I loved everything in the box, all the flavors complimented each other. The toro toro roll was good as well. My least favorite was the bonky roll, but it's more of a me thing as I am not a fan of spicy tuna, but my bf enjoyed everything, so more for him! They have a few tables inside, can fill up quick when it gets busy/might have to wait. read more
SOOOOOOO good! Ordered off Doordash, and it was so good i ordered it two days in a row. i ordered the deluxe box lite which comes with a row of crab, ikura, scallop, salmon belly, and negitoro. The fish is great quality, and there is a good variety and value. it came with special sauce and wasabi. delivery was quick so i didn't get to experience the service nor the restaurant interior, but if im in the area to try i will definitely stop in. will definitely be ordering AT LEAST ONCE per visit from now on when i am in the area! read more
I came right when they opened for the day and was first in line. I got the ultimate box that has a little bit of everything-shrimp, scallops, crab meat, salmon, tuna, roe and caviar. All of this for $55 which I think it's such a good deal. It feed the 2 of us and I was full. The quality was good and the fish were fresh which is why I was impressed. I also had their strawberry matcha which I thought it tasted ok. Strawberry jam was a little too tart for my liking. The matcha was a creamy matcha and it tastes like a normal grade matcha powder. Overall, I don't really care for their matcha latte. What I didn't like what, although I was the first in line, my order took 30 mins to be ready. I also tipped and this place ended up to be one of those place you clean up after yourself. If you live there, it's best to bring it to go. Kept seeing this place pop up on DoorDash so I decided to order for pick up on their website. I ordered the deluxe box and a blueberry matcha. Deluxe box- (2/5) this consisted of one amaebi, scallops, seared salmon belly, ikura, Kani and negi toro. The highlight of this box is the kani which was creamy and really delicious. The negi toro did not taste fresh and tasted fishy. I typically really like seared salmon belly but they did not sear the salmon enough and the pieces of fish were cut really thick which personally I didn't like. Blueberry matcha (4/5)- I liked the flavor of blueberry with the matcha and it was balanced. The matcha was not too sweet and you could still taste the earthiness through the blueberry. I would get this again. Overall, I would only come back to this spot for their drinks and skip the fish boxes. read more
Came here on Valentine's Day at 5 PM since they opened at 4:30 and by then they were already sold out of their 2 most popular items. Most of the people were ordering from DoorDash or online, but we were one of the only parties there that were planning dine in which definitely helped speed up how fast our order came. After 30 minutes, the food came out and it was SO worth the wait. I have to say, their fish quality is top tier, especially the Salmon Zuke Box, which I would have to give almost a 10/10. I think it came with Soy Sauce, Wasabi, and some sort of Egg Yoke dip (first time trying it and absolutely delicious!) I could definitely see the reason why there were so many people ordering online for this place, the 30 minute wait was so worth it. OMG guys, wow this place is soo good, literal chefs kiss! The place is soo cute, clean, but with limited seating. First, the workers were soo sweet and the food came out fast. I ordered the Deluxe Box, Alani Roll, and Truffle Harmony Bowl and guys, it did not disappoint!! Ordered takeout from Fish in the Box and overall it was really good. The fish tasted super fresh and high quality. The truffle flavor stood out the most and was honestly my favorite part, it added so much depth without being overpowering. The mango was also a great touch and paired really well with the fish. This dish was priced at $48 which seems valuable for the quality and I think it fits the description and could be split into 2 meals. A couple things held it back from being amazing though. The rice was a little sweeter than I prefer, and the cuts and sizes of the fish were kind of inconsistent. The space itself is very small with only a few tables, and even picking up my order felt a bit tight, so it's definitely more of a takeout spot than somewhere you'd sit and eat. read more

Ordered Fish in The Box on DoorDash and wow! I'd give the food a solid 5/5! It's a great spot to order to-go especially if you're craving good quality sushi without compromising the quality of fresh fish. The strawberry matcha is some of the best I've tried in the city. Reminded me of matcha from Japan. Pricy at $8.95 (DoorDash) but if you feel like splurging, I think it's worth the money. Salmon Zuke box: This was probably my fave thing along with the Toro Toro Roll! Both are chefs kiss. You just have to try and then you'll understand :) Alani Roll: I would get this again. Seared Salmon and fried shallots on top? Say less! Great contrast; you get the buttery softness of the salmon with the shallots - yum. Truffle Harmony: This was good as well. The food and drinks at this place are very good... However, you will wait a long time to get it. I've only ordered in person so I'm not sure if that also translates when you get food delivered. In my last experience I ordered an Earl grey matcha and 2 strawberry matchas. I waited almost 30 minutes for that alone. I can understand if I also ordered food but just for the drinks?! That's crazy. Speaking of the food, let's talk about it. The dark dragon roll is one of my favorites. If you're a fan of eel/unagi, you won't be disappointed. The Toro Toro roll was also delicious. The strawberry matcha is one of the best in the city, while the earl grey is an honorable mention of you don't like your matcha too sweet. My first time trying this cute hole in the wall restaurant. We ordered from a kiosk and received our order within 10 minutes. One poke bowl and one Bonky roll. The fish was very fresh and the sauce just as tasty. I enjoyed every bite. I give 5 stars because for the price of the bowl, $16.50, they allowed two proteins and gave generous portions of their delicious fresh fish. I will definitely be coming back. read more
Finally managed to order the Deluxe Box (lite) and omg days later I am still thinking about this. Every single bite was fresh and phenomenal, and the presentation was fantastic, even with it being a delivery order. The lite box comes with fatty tuna with green onions, a fresh crab salad (not your typical california roll imitation crab), ikura, scallops, salmon toro, and sweet shrimp on a bed of rice. It also comes with two soy sauce droppers and a delicious kizami wasabi (marinated, finely chopped wasabi?) that I demolished even though I don't normally eat wasabi. The website says that this box serves one, and at first I felt like it could easily serve two because of how generous the portion size was, but after trying it, I realize that it's something I'd have a hard time wanting to share lol :- ) read more
My husband ordered 2 deluxe boxes + an earl gray matcha & black sesame matcha for delivery directly on their website. The delivery was handled by DoorDash and unfortunately the courier spilled some of our drinks. We called to let them know and they refunded us for the two drinks immediately which was really kind of them! The parts of the drink that didn't spill were delicious, the matcha was very strong & smooth. The two deluxe boxes were so beautifully presented and tasted just as great as they looked! The portion was really generous, I made so many hand rolls using the included packet of nori. My favorite toppings were the real crab, toro, and ikura. It was so fresh! Seating was very quick. The inside is nice and cozy, but very limited, so if it is crowded it could be hard to find a spot. The fish is sashimi grade and tastes very fresh! Everything was served in disposable bento boxes. In the bluefin tuna box, I loved the caramelized egg side dish stored in the disposable side. They ask for what sauce you want on the side and store it in these suction plastic pipette(s) that I have never seen. Definitely would come again! read more

Originally, I wanted to order this boxes to go and eat it at a park but daylight savings would've only captured the darkness and my pearly whites. We opted to dine in and I just had to request for them to plate it in the box as well. The boxes looks way bigger in pictures. The size of the boxes are probably similar to a kindle or iPad. Nonetheless, the quality of the fish and other ingredients were Fresh with a capital F. I probably should've ordered one sushi and one meat plate but all good, we managed to finish everything. read more

If you plan to visit, I highly recommend coming during off-hours or ordering ahead -- this place clearly gets busy for good reason. Service was very kind and would definitely go back! 5/5 - Salmon Zuke Box - Great portions of salmon that we got on a bed of white rice. Fish tasted fresh and was complemented well by the egg yolk and wasabi/soy sauce. Fantastic option if you need your fix of sashimi! 5/5 - Truffle Harmony - Similar to the Zuke box in portion but is 1/2 and 1/2 with hamachi. More side complements that make the dish work well! 5/5 - Salmon in Yogurt Sea - Also similar to the Zuke box but is mixed with a creamy savory sauce. Yum! No wonder so many people come here: tasty! Got the salmon in yogurt sea, half salad, half rice. I LOVE how they stacked the fish, then salad, then lastly rice. The salad acts like a barrier so the rice doesn't get instantly soggy from the yogurt. Came here on Saturday right before closing. A little hard to give a seat indoors. I didn't expect so much pickled daikon. Kanikama salad is also imitation crab salad, which was actually more tasty than many other places. Delicious. Would come back! read more

Did Fish in the Box remove the chicken katsu curry and all sushi burritos from the menu? These were my two most ordered items.
They did removed the chicken katsu curry. However, they didn't completely remove sushi burritos, it's just appeared to be a different form. Now they cut them into 8 pieces and renamed name them as "futomaki"
Did this place used to be called amitis? If so, any reason for the name change that can given? Just curious.
Hello tomo san. Yes we did change our store name. We also add some new items to the menu. The new name is more relevant to the menu. We are still under same ownership and we still serving most of the item that we used to serve. Thank you for asking
