This is a small and cozy establishment in a busy street with lots of other cool shops. We made a reservation online for 2 at 630 on a Saturday. Tables were all full when we arrived so I recommend making a resy if possible. Got seated quickly and ordered ramen, gyoza, eagle rock roll, and a sashimi plate. Food arrived quickly too. Sushi and fish were incredibly fresh. So delicious!! The ramen was 11/10- the broth was so rich and tasty without being overly fatty. Great veggies in there, too. Ask for extra noodles it makes all the difference!! The Gyoza were some of my fav (up there with the ones I've had in Japan). This is a great spot, will be back!!

Wow, what an incredible place. First of all, it was so packed on a Wednesday night. Second, the fish was the freshest I've tasted in a long time. Third, I think this place hits it out of the park for the best sushi in all of Eagle Rock, Glendale, and Pasadena. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures because I was too focused on how incredible the flavors were. Definitely begin with the spicy garlic edamame. Then, order the yellowtail sashimi (the one with yuzu), a couple of rolls or nigiri, and get your main plate as something cooked. The juxtaposition of raw and cooked is a great flavor-cleansing palate cleanser. As for the main plate, do not sleep on the Chicken Katsu, Garlic noodles, and Curry dish.

Saw good Yelp rating and had high hopes, but was disappointed. I thought the food was just okay. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't very busy. My daughter loves salmon ikura bowls so we wanted to try theirs. It's tiny and unfortunately the ikura was very fishy. They do have lunch specials. We also ordered the tempura lunch special with spicy tuna roll. It's a small mom and pop restaurant. Parking was tough in the area. We parked on the street a few blocks away. Based on my experience I wouldn't come back again, but keeping an open mind maybe we went on an off day.

Fish on Rice is the cutest local sushi spot in Eagle Rock, and it's always packed with families, couples, and friends on the evenings that we have gone. The servers are nice but busy, and the inside of the restaurant has cool edgy club vibes because it's somewhat dark and intimate towards the back sitting areas. I highly recommend the eel bowl!!! The eel is lightly crispy and has the perfect amount of sweet eel sauce on top. I love the tamago (egg) that comes with it too, and it's served in the most beautiful bowl atop some warm white rice. The rest of the sushi is decent and fresh, but I will always come back for and dream about the eel bowl.

Absolutely amazing place! Excellent food and cozy atmosphere!!! My highest recommendation!

    Tuna hand roll

I feel like I got finessed. Looking at other reviews they played in my face. I ordered a tuna hand roll for something light and fresh but instead the hand roll was something I'd get at a grocery store, actually the tuna cuts at a grocery store are better. The hand roll was made with the tuna scraps, not like another yelper depicted, also the rice was not sushi rice, it was long grain rice. As an avid sushi eater this was a disgrace, I'm not sure if the quality had several gone down but the prices remain high. I say save ur money and go to a grocery store if you want mediocre fish cuts and the wrong kind of rice used at a SUSHI restaurant. The first pic is what I received vs what someone else received and reviewed a year ago. I should get a refund smh this was not worth $8 a hand roll, more like $3!!

Exterior/ Interior: They are located on a main road. There is only street parking (that you need to pay for until certain hours). The inside is narrow and has wooden interior designs (benches and bar seating). There's approximately 4 seats for bar seating. Depending on your party size, you may or may not have trouble finding seats. I came from 4:30-5:30PM on a Saturday. It was not busy at all. This would be a perfect place to eat for a party of 2. Service: They've been efficient and nice. This place has created an environment where it's easy to order for pick-up and the quality remains the same. They're usually ready by the time they give you. Food: Though some may differ on the price of the items, the quality is nice for what they offer. I've ordered a variety of their appetizers and consistently order their hand rolls. A simple, fresh option goes a long way. I would recommend the Salmon Hand Roll (5/5) for the soft, tiny pieces that's easy to bite into and the fresh flavor. The Brussel Sprouts and Chicken Kaarage would be nice choices to balance the textures.

Uni and toro specials were EXCELLENT!

I had been here a few times before. Good service and a charming, casual atmosphere. Always good enough to return but not run back often. I know I had ordered ankimo sashimi before but this time it was quite awful. The texture was firm, crumbly, and dry and the taste was lacking. It looked like it was processed and packaged like a sausage. I would not order this again. The FOR Sushi Combo was fine. That said, the toro and uni specials were fantastic and I'm coming back tomorrow just to order them again!

Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Was super hungry and accidentally stumbled upon this place and super happy about that. Fish was super fresh the roll I ordered was done exactly how I had asked for. The rice on the spicy tune was perfectly crispy just the way it needs to be the baked crab handroll was full of meat they for sure don't go cheap with the fish quantity or quality. Will definitely be back here to try more things.

Love this place! I ordered from a couple of times on DoorDash before actually coming in to the restaurant. Their sushi was delicious and fresh through DoorDash so I knew the food was going to be even better at the restaurant - and it was! My go-to is the F.O.R. Sushi combo. The fish is fresh and portions are big and filling. We tried their tom yum tonkotsu and that broth is to die for. Service is quick and friendly every time we go. It's a small restaurant so it can feel a little bit cramped, but it's not terrible. Have to find street parking here!

I've been here twice already and really satisfied with the food quality and the service here! Parking can be a hassle on busy days but there are street parking and a metered parking lot on Colorado and Caspar. The restaurant itself isn't too big, and there's also 2 tables outside in the front where you can dine if you have pets as well. They have a pretty good size menu that includes, lunch specials, sushi, as well as ramen and udon. The staff here are super friendly! I came here for lunch twice and here's what I tried: Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Special 4/5 - It comes with rice, salad and miso soup and your choice of either a California roll, Spicy Tuna Roll or Gyoza. I really enjoyed the bento box, food portions were great and I actually had extra to take home! Agedashi Tofu 3/5 - This was ok, I didn't really enjoy it very much. Chicken Karagge 5/5 - Order this! The chicken was really juicy and the sauce pairs perfectly with it Baked Scallop Roll and Salmon Roll - 5/5 - Portion sizes were great and the rolls were super delish! Will definitely be back in the near future. Enjoy!

Very high quality sushi restaurant. Nice quiet setting. Street parking is a little difficult to find. Fair prices. Decent portions. Great for a nicer lunch. Would recommend and would come back

I'm a huge fan of Chirashi bowls (donburi) and I always judge a sushi restaurant by the quality of their fish and the quality of their sushi rice in a chirashi bowl. My partner and I came for lunch and we were seated immediately. There were only two parties other than us, but otherwise it's a small restaurant with very few staff. The decor is very cute and the servers were very pleasant. We got the premium sushi (I think that's what it was) and the chirashi bowl and some other roll that my partner wanted. Chirashi bowl 5/5: fresh, large chunks of sashimi on top of sushi rice. Can't complain, there was nothing I would've changed about it. Premium Sushi 5/5: Just like the chirashi bowl the sushi was excellent. To me, it seemed like very similar dishes, just the chirashi bowl much more deconstructed and the nigiri was prepared for us. I forgot how the roll was, but I generally don't like rolls in general. Overall nice place!

The fried rice was also a standout and paired perfectly with the meal. Service was great from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving despite how busy it was. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. If you're in LA and in the mood for ramen, this is a spot you should absolutely check out.

I remember going here during their grand opening ages ago, did their, back then, super cheap deal with unlimited noodle refill (even further discounted due to the special event day) and eating to the point of barely being able to sit up in the car without throwing up. I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
