We came during lunch and it wasn't very crowded. The restaurant is decorated with multi-colored coy fish in three different arrangements on one side off the wall and the other wall is covered with birch wallpaper. I ordered the three hand rolls that came with miso soup and edamame as an appetizer. They were all delicious and very fresh! My husband ordered the sesame chicken and thought it was pretty good. read more

Portions are generous and the lunch specials offer good value. My favorites are the Laker Roll and Alaska Roll Excellent service and staff is friendly and willing to accommodate special requests.Parking is easy and free for a limited time in the structure across the street. Our go to sushi spot. Everything tastes fresh and they are consistent. Every time we go they never let us down. They also listen with modifications like we love the rock shrimp amazing super crispy and they get it done to perfection. I go here often with my boyfriend the staff already know us since how frequently we go. Honestly no sushi spot can beat Kumadori. I love their customer service, their friendliness, cleanness, and just how wonderful the sushi always tastes. It is always fresh and I have never EVER had a bad tasting fish. I have been coming here for years and I have been trying to hide the spot so it doesn't get busy but I have to praise this restaurant because it always puts a smile on my face not only by the food but also because that work here. read more

Look. I've been to Japan. I've been to Nobu, Sugarfish and experienced high end sushi places. But, the sushi I carve Is KUMADORI. It's always fresh, exciting and perfect. Phoebe is always coming up with fresh new recipes. But for those who like what they like, the original rolls have always been consistently amazing with thick cuts of sashimi. Where other places skimp, at Kumadori, the chef has so much pride in her art that she would never compromise the experience of having world class sushi. My wife and I go to Kumadori every other week as our designated treat ourselves:date night hangout. We've tried half the rolls on the menu and they're all great. Super flavorful, great sized portions. The owner Phoebe is so cool and fun and all of the wait staff are excellent, especially Anna. Definitely try the Hawaiian Roll (never had anything like it at any other sushi place). Jazz Roll, Lemon Citrus Roll, and Lakers Mango Salmon roll are some of our favorites. read more

Wow, this place is shockingly overpriced. I feel like if anyone is familiar with sushi prices they will be left wondering why they just paid double or even triple for their sushi. Neither of us could recall how long it's been since Ichiban left, but we were amazed that neither of us have tried this replacement since it opened sometime around the pandemic. We both loved to support local businesses in our old neighborhood, so we were excited to see what the new restaurant did to the place. Was it a blissful evening filled with sake, sushi, and stories, or was this place a bit far off from what we happily remembered it to be!? PURCHASE(S) Sapporo Breweries Sapporo Premium Beer 4.9% ABV 22floz Bottle ($9.00 x2): Rich amber color, malty sweet aroma, low body, light malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and light malty sweet aftertaste. Always a favor with sushi! Deep Fried Shishito Peppers ($9.50): Butter sautéed shishito peppers with ponzu sauce, these slightly spicy tasty treats were fun to nibble on between sushi rolls! One thing I appreciated was the inclusion of several health-conscious "rolls" that don't contain rice, which is a nice option for anyone looking to cut back on carbs or who simply isn't a fan of rice. Ordering was a little different than most sushi restaurants. Instead of ordering directly from the server, they give you a paper menu where you either check off or write the quantity of each item you'd like. It was simple and made it easy for our group to keep track of everything we ordered. There were four of us dining together. My partner ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, which came with miso soup, a small salad, eight pieces of a California roll, mixed tempura, rice, and the chicken teriyaki. Our group averaged about $30 per person, depending on what everyone ordered, which I thought was fair for the quality and freshness of the food. As a bonus, Handel's Homemade Ice Cream is right next door, making it the perfect place to grab dessert after dinner. One final thing I really appreciated: the food looked exactly like the photos the restaurant advertises. I live about 20 minutes away, so driving back would have put me there after closing. I even offered to send a picture of the incorrect order, but was told they couldn't access the email. What made this even more frustrating was how unaccommodating the employee was. Knowing there was no realistic way for me to drive 20 minutes back to the restaurant before closing, I expected at least some effort to find a reasonable solution. Instead, I felt like I was simply being told there was nothing they could do. When I said I would contact upper management for a resolution via email, the employee even seemed relieved, rather than concerned about resolving the issue. I understand mistakes happen, but the restaurant made the mistake--not me. The least they could have done was offer a refund for an overpriced burrito that I didn't even order. It's now past midnight, and I have to drive way out of my way just to find somewhere that's still open to get food. Very disappointing customer service, and unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again.

Where to start..the ONLY reason I came here was because they "stated" they were open until 11. I've been here a few times and always left unsatisfied..but I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt and decided to try it out again. When the waitress sat us she mentioned its last call so let me know what you want to order...... I'm sorry but I haven't even looked at the menu AND ITS 10:02!! When we ordered our food I specifically mentioned all rolls on soy paper. I don't like the taste of seaweed so I make sure I mention it multiple times. When the food came it was with seaweed. I told the waitress i had ordered with soy paper. She didn't say a word, took the plate and came back and said..we made it so you have to pay for it..... Ummmm WHAT?? so I said..ya NO I'm not gna pay for something I'm not eating. She just left.. 20 min our second roll came (shrimp tempura) ..ALL RICE.. I couldn't believe it.. The rolls looked massive but don't let that deceive you. No refills..waitress never came back to check up and just dropped the check off. Everything we had ordered was a different price on the menu. Be careful bcuz prices do not match. I paid the check and left. BTW by 10:12 they had put all the chairs on the table except for ours and another table. I thought they closed at 11:00?! Do not order the baked mussles! They always burn the baked mussles and they will still serve it to you. Poor quality of food. Poor customer service. This restaurant does not practicw social distancing. Their tables are next to each other and not following strict Publi Health Guidelines about tables 8 feet apart even with barrier. The server wears gloves but does not change the gloves. Disgusting, spreading more viruses at every customers that arrives. They dont know what cross contamination is. They just care about your money but not customer's safety. Also, their pick up area is next to the customer' dining area, in other words, you will be exposed to virus cause no social distancing with the customer dining in and pick up customers. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at Kumadori Japanese Restaurant. During our meal, a server brought us a chicken wrap we didn't order. When I asked about it, they told me it was a Chef's Kitchen Special and said it was on the house. I appreciated the gesture--until I checked the receipt after we left and saw we were charged $17.95 for it. This is incredibly unprofessional. If something is presented as complimentary, it should not end up on the bill. It felt misleading and dishonest, and it completely soured the experience. This is hands down my favorite sushi place. The prices are really good, the service is amazing and the quality of the sushi is excellent. My husband and I eat at Sushi Kai at least once a week, we have tried a lot of the things in the menu and everything is extremely good. I have not been disappointed! I love anything with spicy tuna in it. You gotta try the 50/50 hand roll, the crunchy roll and the spicy tuna roll... They are to die for. How sad to wake up to an over charge of your favorite restaurant. I always order pick up of the same thing. I know the total by memory and always make sure to add a zero with a line across on the tip section in hopes of things like this not happening. When I first came to the Americana location, I didn't even realize it was the same chain until I sat down, and I was expecting a similar experience. Thankfully, I was wrong. I've now been here twice this week for lunch, and I've really enjoyed both visits. It's not the best hand roll spot in Los Angeles, but it's fresh, consistently good, and one of the better options in the Valley. The location is a huge plus. I usually don't love the food options at the Americana, so this has become my go to when I'm shopping or running errands. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with lots of natural light, and the service has been quick and efficient both times. My favorites are the spicy tuna donburi because it's the perfect size to enjoy alongside a couple of hand rolls, the spicy scallop hand roll, the salmon truffle hand roll, and the cucumber sunomono. We also tried the toro uni donburi and the Wagyu donburi. I would probably skip the Wagyu next time. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't stand out the way the other dishes did. Overall, the quality is great, the prices are fair, and I'll definitely be back.

The restaurant was surprisingly empty, and we were seated promptly. We ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen ($18) which was excellent. Rich, creamy broth, fully immersed noodles, and the accompanying egg and two pork chashu pieces, which were especially fatty. The broth for this Tonkotsu was above average for the many versions I've encountered over the years. Accompanying it we got the Salmon teriyaki bowl ($16), which included a quite massive piece of salmon (see photo), cooked perfectly above a bed of rice and a few vegetables on the side. I got the spider roll ($14) a tempura shrimp roll which nicely balanced the texture of the crispy shrimp with the softness of the other parts. It was sadly small at five pieces but quite good and each piece was fairly large. The interior is cozy, clean, and compact, consistent with the corner title, welcoming, and unpretentious. The ambiance seems a slight step up from your typical strip mall sushi place, no doubt utilizing the three walls with windows to maximize light and warmth. The food was prompt, and service friendly, attending to our many needs and requests - pointing out when I forgot my to-go bag, taking dishes and cleaning after my messy children, answering my kid's (polite, but frequent) requests, and even supplying us with a small dish of sprinkles with these adorable little imported packaged Hokkaido soft service ice cream cones ($5). I am especially impressed when such great service comes from someone whose native language is clearly not English - this type of warmth from a traditionally reserved culture is palpable and real. Probably some of the best service I've received at a restaurant like this in some time. Unpretentious, warm, friendly, and with good food, Sushi corner is a local gem that stands above its peers, and highly recommended for anyone looking for Japanese in the area.
