We requested a table for two, the hostess walked away and came back to tell us there was a 30 minute wait. We asked why since so many tables were open and were told they were all taken. Stamford really needed this place, a terrific restaurant for fish. I sensed a good meal would follow the tasty crusty bread on the table. I started with delicious mussels in a coconut curry broth that was tasty and different. The menu offers a number of good choices for fish and various preparations. I had blackened scallops that were perfectly prepared. My wife wasn't in the mood for fish and had the chicken pailiard with salad. She loved it and gave me a bite. My husband and I went here for dinner recently with another couple. I had been here for dinner once with some girlfriends a couple of years ago but don't remember wanting to run back. I am glad I did return! Service was absolutely amazing - very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Food was delicious - appetizer portions were big. I always thought lobster mac 'n cheese was an abomination and waste of perfectly good lobster but F.I.S.H changed my mind! Entree portions were yummy, seafood was well cooked but very small portions and expensive for what you got. I would have liked more food or slightly lower prices for the entrees. I had dinner here tonight and it was simply amazing! The food was delicious and beautifully presented - I had the Naked Fish George Banks Scallops with rice pilaf and red coconut curry signature sauce. The ambience and decor are both very chill and airy, and the indoor to outdoor dining area flows rather seamlessly given the retractable floor to ceiling windowed doors. Our waitress, Nina, was super sweet and very attentive. Based on my interactions with Jared, the general manager, you can tell he is highly engaged and dedicated to creating a wonderful dining experience for you. My wife and I have dined at FISH three times and the food has always been great. The service has been good and the prices reasonable. The only complaint I have is the noise level inside. Why do restaurants think that a high decibel level adds to the dining experience. Eating outside is quieter. read more

I have finally figured out why this place has a terrible reputation in Fairfield County, the lack of customer service... PERIOD. We were sitting at the bar on the stools behind the bar and ordered oysters. They brought the oysters to us and put them on a chair because they did not fit on the table. Yes, they put them on a chair and expected us to eat off the chair. We asked to sit a table and were told the tables were for dinner customers only, mind you the restaurant was empty. So they serve you food you cannot eat unless you're scooping it off a chair, but you're not allowed to sit at table in the empty restaurant to eat the food they serve. It was the strangest experience of amateur management I've ever witnessed in a restaurant. The manger finally "allowed" us to sit at one of the 40 empty tables to eat our oysters. It was shocking to say the least. You would get better service and customer care at the McDonald's down the street. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! Lugano's has tastier oysters with stellar service. Such a disappointment! BTW, the manger on duty was Dennis, and the owner, Jared, was just as disrespectful and dismissive as Dennis when I called in to inform him what happened. read more

Delicious meal and delightful service. We all ordered the scallops and loved them, my husband and I tried different sauces and both agreed that mine was better than his. I got the seared scallops with lemon chive sauce and he ordered the lobster one with the up charge. Brussels sprouts were delicious too. I came here last Sunday with my boyfriend and his daughter at about 7:00pm. No wait and not very busy. It has a nice, open layout and a separate bar area. Simple decor, with only 2 pictures in the entire restaurant. Our waiter was polite, friendly, and efficient. The menu had tasty and interesting options, but when the bread came out and was super bland, I got a little nervous. However, the meal itself turned out to be fantastic. I ordered the Georges Bank Scallops with the capers and lemon and boy did that simple, elegant, and deliciously citrus sauce taste fantastic with the tender scallops. The mashed potatoes that came with it were creamy and buttery and were also well complimented by the sauce. I tried a taste of the Ricotta Gnocchi with lobster that my boyfriend's daughter got and while very fishy tasting, was absolutely delicious. We didn't order any alcohol. Not inexpensive, but I definitely left there feeling very satisfied with my meal and would come back again. read more

When I initially walked by I though this would be too fancy for a family with messy preschoolers for brunch, but I was totally wrong. The manger welcomed us, gave us crayons and coloring sheets for the kids, and a great kids menu. Our experience at FISH (first time there) was mixed. Our waiter was asked to give us a few more minutes to select our wines and took a very long time to return. Appetizers were very good. For my entree, I ordered scallops prepared with a sesame seed crust (one of the "naked fish" options) after first checking with the waiter to be sure this option was doable with scallops, and I asked for one of the sauces on the side. My order came with an entirely different preparation and no sauce. I called over the waiter, who explained that the kitchen had told him that the scallops couldn't be prepared that way, so he decided to bring me something else (!!!) I explained that he should have checked with me first, as I didn''t care for his choice and should have been given the opportunity to pick my own alternative entree. The waiter just kept apologizing and smiling, so I asked for the manager, who grabbed my plate and assured me he'd bring me exactly what I ordered. My companion was almost done eating by the time my food came, and while the scallops were prepared as I asked, the manager had for some reason selected his own side sauce rather than what I had requested. At this point I just sighed and ate. The entree was fine, not outstanding, with brussels sprouts that were a trifle undercooked for my taste. It took the staff a long time to clear the table. While I was eating the waiter offered me another glass of wine on the house, which I turned down (I was driving), and he seemed distressed at my response, saying that his boss was going to be angry at him. When we got our bill, I handed money to the waiter, and noticed a small conference occurring at the register. The manager then returned with my change, noting he had comped our wines, which I thought was the right thing to do, but should have happened before the bill was presented, not after. So, we had a waiter who wasn't up to snuff, a manager who was a little rocky, some good food, and a large bill--the place is pricey within the Stamford context--including very big mark-ups on wine by the glass, which of course we didn't have to pay. Will I be back? Not sure. I'm rather underwhelmed. read more

This is by far our favorite place to eat in Stamford! The food is fantastic and the service is attentive. We love the naked fish options where you can pair your choice of fish, sauce and type of cook (seared, blackened, etc.) The fish is incredibly fresh and flavorful. My favorite restaurant in Stamford. It was the first restaurant my husband and I dined at when we moved to the area over 3 years ago and we still go frequently because it's that good! The seafood is always fresh and delicious. The mussels with curry sauce is my favorite appetizer. For an entree, I love the concept that you can choose from an assortment of fish, cooking style, sauce and side dish so each meal is customized to your liking. The stuffed shrimp is also a favorite. The staff is friendly and attentive. We love Crystal one of the waitresses. The old manager was always there when we were and you could tell he loved his job and customers. He always came to the table to make sure you're satisfied. They recently hired a new manager, Max who is exactly the same. It makes going back so often easy when the food and staff are exceptional. Something that is not always easy to come by in the hospitality industry. Definitely try Fish out - you won't be disappointed! read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time last night with my family, and it was amazing! Definitely recommend. It was a Manhattan-quality restaurant with a slightly cheaper price, with a great atmosphere and creative interior decor. The restaurant uses high-quality seafood, and cooks for original, fresh flavoring. I highly recommend the octopus dish in the appetizer menu; it is very light and tangy due to the black olives, without overwhelming the tongue. I also ordered the stuffed shrimp, which features a crab-cake-like filling between shrimps on top of spinach and mashed potatoes. This was a great, well-thought dish, and even the potatoes were fluffy and delicious. Despite being a seafood restaurant, FISH also surprisingly had great desserts. I LOVED the walnut tart! It was sweet, and had a very generous layer of walnuts, topped with a perfectly complementing maple walnut ice cream. I'd go to this restaurant even just for this tart. Overall, this was a great restaurant, perfect for special nights out. read more

Don't waste you're time. Portions were small and overpriced. Nothing special about the food. Calamari appetizer was a small hand full not worth the price. Fish taxs were small but tasted ok. Octopus was a bit dry and also very small portion.clams Casio a little salty, clams were smaller than l have normally seen. Its the start of restaurant week and this is one of the first places I hit up. The inside of the place is lovely and a service was really good. But the food was just okay...I got the shaved brussel sprouts starter which was very dry and also raw which should be mentioned in the description. Not to been gross but eating raw sprouts will give you extreme gas...look it up! Ive had this type of salad before but it usually tastes better if the sprouts have been cooked a little and then chilled (also better on your digestive system!). However...if they were going to keep it raw then it needed to be dressed more. Completely dry and I couldnt finish. I also got the bass for main course. The flavors were very good and the fish was cooked well but the green beans that came with the dish still had the pointy ends on them. They needed to be trimmed before being cooked and served. Maybe readers will assume I am picky but if you do spend a solid 50 bucks + on an entree and starter these things should be not be overlooked. Small attention to detail is important if you charge for finer dining. read more

Had dinner @ FISH last evening. Since I have to watch my carbohydrate intake I have to fill up on the other two, protein & fat. So many seafood restaurants serve a small portion of seafood on top of an elaborabe preparion of vegetables, grains, etc. I have been looking for a restaurant that serves generous portions of excellent seafood, simply prepared like an old school fish house. This restaurnt comes close. The food is excellent but five medium sea scallops over sauteed spinach wasn't enough food for me. I realize that good seafood is expensive but I would have like more scallops. I had an oyster sampler that was good and my wife had a seafood chowder that, once she added salt & pepper, was very tasty. This is an upscale joint and @ 7:30 on a Friday night both the bar and dining room were filled and a tad too noisy. We had to lean forward to talk/hear the person accross the table. I don't know why so many trendy restaurants use all hard surfaces. They need to adress the noise issue. If I was judging food alone I would give FISH four stars. read more

We tried this restaurant and unbeknownst to us it was restaurant week in Stamford. Needless to say the restaurant was very crowded. We had reservations, but had to wait a little bit for our table. However, the manager Jarod, was excellent in keeping us informed on the wait time to be seated. To be honest I've never seen a host/manager so pleasant and informative. The food was delicious! I ordered off the "restaurant week" menu, the mahi mahi lettuce wraps were excellent, as was my main entree pasta with shrimp. It originally came with pesto sauce, which I don't like, and they were able to accommodate my change in sauce. It was cooked perfectly, with plenty of shrimp. We also ordered tuna in a lemon caper sauce, which was delicious. The portions are also quite generous. Our waiter Connor was very courteous and it always helps make the dining experience enjoyable when your waiter is attentive, as he was. We had a very pleasant dinner at this restaurant and I encourage everybody to try it. It just might be our new favorite place in Stamford to dine. read more

Fish Restaurant + Bar was really better than I expected. I chose this restaurant purely from the already posted reviews because my husband and I had no specific plans and we were looking for somewhere to go outside of NYC to celebrate our anniversary with a simple dinner for two. Even though it was a snowy day, we went about mid-afternoon; there were only two people there and they were seated at the bar. We had our choice of seating. The hostess was very pleasant and most accommodating. No pressure from any of the staff we were at total leisure, never lacking any service. The food was excellent; many of the menu selections I wasn't familiar with so we guessed and asked the hostess for a few explanations and she did without a bother....Nice!...I fell in Love Instantly!.......Everything fit perfectly together. The decor is beautifully done in a sleek modern style yet with a warm and inviting appeal. I Love this restaurant and will definitely come again. I give it a *4-Star* only because it's my first time.....but, will try again when it's more crowded. read more
