Might even go back again today! We were staying on a boat at Safe Harbor Yacht Haven and it was an easy walk. Here's what we tried: Clam Chowder - As thick as I've ever had and very good. Mussels - White wine broth and very good, but maybe a little sand in some of them. Are you Sure? Girl trip! 1st stop! They didnt open until noon on the day we went. So we had to wait 1hr 30mins ish. There was a event which is great but everyone seem preoccupied for the event. Perhaps they should have closed for the event. The patio was closed for event. This made us very sad...wish we could have just taken a pic. -French onion soup- was way too salty -Cali burger- small but delish. I think they use gauc and not just plain avocado. But it was excellent. -Steak sandwich...dry and flavorless and didnt look like what jungkook and jimin ate on the show. -Fries- wasnt hot and was mid. I feel like none of the food was hot though. We all understand prices have gone up but NO EXCUSE to rip off customers . If you would give out enough salad dressing on salads , enough sour cream on nachos and enough salsa nobody would have to ask for a 2nd ounce that you give out . and then charge 2.50 for an ounce of condiments . My search for the best lobster roll continues this summer. I am delighted to describe a particularly good one here. I cannot vouch to the ambience, etc. as I was at the nearby beach, West Haven relaxing while my friend walked over to order and returned it to me at the beach. I felt like a Queen eating a lobster roll on the beach and tried not to make a spectacle of myself as the butter dripped down my chin. The meat was tender, sweet with nice large chunks. The bun was lightly toasted and held up through the last bite. I like that in a bun otherwise it falls apart and becomes difficult to eat. More times than not you ditch the bun and just eat the lobster if it is not sturdy. In my opinion you need the bun to get the full lobster roll experience as well as the meal being substantial. That is why the bun is important to me. Not as important as the lobster itself but it is high up on the "bar." The roll was accompanied by Cole slaw and a pickle spear. The sizeable Cole slaw was certainly homemade given the cabbage and carrots looked hand cut. It was delicious with a generous amount. Having said all this the roll was pricey. At $35 it is the most expensive I have eaten to date. Was it worth it, heck yes because I did not pay, it was a treat. If you want a good lobster roll and do not mind spending the money treat yo self to it, you will not be disappointed. read more

We stopped by the beach which is just over a berm at the end of the street. This spot was close, quick and easy to get to. When we walked in, there was a crowd at the bar enjoying each other's company. One said 'oh look, customers' which got a chuckle from everyone. Guess this is a locals hot spot. It was lively and fun. The room is divided down the middle. As soon as you enter, you are at the end of the bar which runs the length of the room and has TV's. There is a half wall separating the room with high-tops on the other side. The half wall leaves the room open and everyone can see the TV. I didn't notice it on my way in, but passing through on our way out, post meal, I got the distinctive smell of sour beer inside. It wasn't excessive, but it's definitely there. As we were enjoying the day, we asked to sit outside on their patio and were given the go-ahead to sit where we like. We were the first of the lunch crowd, and really did have a pick of any table in the place. The restaurant is located in a neighborhood and you might not expect a restaurant to be here. Looks like a cute little beach cottage was converted. The patio is surrounded by a tall fence over which you can clearly see the top of the neighbors house. Several tables are clustered together with umbrellas and there is a small garden as well as outdoor decor. It's cute. Not fancy or intimate, but 'beach-y'. The menu is on cardboard stock printed front and back. They have a variety of beverages listed as well as breakfast items, soup, salad, sandwiches and entrees. Two of the group got french onion soup. They both said it was salty and one said it does not have that 'long simmered' robustness that they look for in a French onion. They said it 'wasn't bad', just not 'the best' they'd had. We ordered a goat cheese quesadilla. I like goat cheese and spinach but this concept fell flat. I think sticking to cheddar or other more 'melty' cheese if preferable for a quesadilla. The sour cream and salsa really did help the overall taste and texture profile of the dish. I ordered a 'create your own' salad. Bravo on this concept! I chose spinach as my base, added goat cheese, green pepper, red onion, broccoli and cucumber for the veg, topped it with cranberries and got a balsamic dressing which is served on the side. I also added a Crab cake to the salad which is not on their on-line menu, but was offered on the menu we were given. I was very happy to see the salad was not just a big pile of spinach with very few toppings. Oh no, instead it was loaded with veg. The green peppers were shaved on a mandolin and there were plenty. Goat cheese was a big slab placed on top, the broccoli florets were small enough to get in my mouth easily without being so small they end up at the bottom of the dish. And the crab cake was large and so good. There were a few shell pieces in it, but the cake itself is a nice combination of crab to other ingredients with actual lumps of crab throughout. It was a very filling, tasty salad and I am so glad they had this an a menu option. Once again my SO made the mistake of asking what beer was recommended without asking the price. Yeowza! He does like his craft beer. Just be sure to ask the price as the menu has none. There was one waitress working the restaurant and patio. She came and went a number of times and stopped by periodically to check on us. We weren't rushed to order and we had to ask for the check when ready to leave meaning even though we had finished our meal, and the dishes cleared away, it was fine to linger and visit. A very beach vibe. When we asked, the check was brought promptly and we cashed out in the time it took me to 'hit the head'. It seems like this place is trying to offer a variety of food items. You can get a NY Strip, a burger, Salmon, mushroom risotto, sandwich, salad or Littlenecks. Some dishes are standard fare; others are a bit more creative. It can't say the food was phenomenal. Hidden gem in Stamford. One of the best meals I've had since moving here. Everything was delicious. I'm a pretty picky eater, do if I like one dish I try, that's a win. I absolutely loved everything I tried which is almost unheard of for me. We had the sticky calamari which was excellent. The sauce was one of the top ten best things I've ever put in my mouth. For our entrees, I got the bang bang shrimp (app) and clam chowder and my husband the steak sandwich with fries. Again, I kind of wanted to take the sauce and bathe in it. The shrimp itself was also nicely seasoned and lightly fried. The clam chowder had a smokier flavor profile than I was expecting, and it was absolutely delicious. Probably the best clam chowder I've ever had. My husband loved his sandwich. I myself, give the side eye to steak fries, as overstepping their limits on the appropriate potato to coating ratio, but even I was forced to admit they were pretty good (of course I will have to deny this later). The prices were excellent too.. They were absolutely swamped but our server was amazing, although we regretfully didn't get her name. Despite how busy it was, she was very friendly and attentive. Fresh roll and plenty of sautéd mushrooms. The cheese was melted on top including the roll. Steak fries were fresh and hot. Disappointed in the $2 charge for side of ranch dressing for dipping the fries. I left off the onions and peppers from the steak and that should have been more than enough to cover 3 tablespoons of ranch dressing. For a pub, the food is pretty much what you'd expect but it's still good nonetheless. My favorite is the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and that's always a quality meal every time I get it. The service is always friendly and they check up often enough to make sure the food is alright and if you want anything else. For a small place that gets packed quickly, it's amazing how they do it. It's the perfect place to go to after spending time at the beach right literally right next door or maybe just to grab a quick bite and have a drink or two with friends. Our glasses were kept full with non-alcoholic soda. 2nd visit the table shared crab cake appetizer. The 3 cakes could be considered a full meal. Just enough lumps of crab mixed with back meat. The three of each had a different sandwich, a Brennan burger, chicken panini every thing was delicious They have a nice outdoor patio and with the nice weather it was real hard to go back to work. Stamford, CT's best kept secret! Please note that this is NOT your typical restaurant. Literally tucked away in a neighborhood, right at the end of a cul-de-sac surrounded by family homes. Regular Irish Pub, family owned, cozy booths, and even a cute secluded back-yard patio. The bartender has always been pleasent and very helpful for first timers that can't make a menu choice. Outside deck is clean with decent tables and umbrellas. HUGE thumbs up on the clean bathroom! Overall seems like a great joint for a rose, beer or soda. The food: last time I had a BLT which was great and a side salad which was fresh and simple. Today, i had the summer special of a lobster roll - (see photo) although was a pricey dish, it was fresh and buttery with the steak fries just cooked. They do NOT do free refills and I wouldnt say they knew what a white wine spritzer was. Unless i just have never had a spritzer with a sprite... However amazing place. Highly recommend! This place is worth hunting for! Tucked away at the end of a residential side street about 5 minutes south of the Stamford train station. The "Nickle" roast turkey sandwich is awesome, as are the generous sides. Potato salad and cole slaw were both fresh and tasty. Beer was good and cold, and the service was friendly and fast. I wish I could give this spot a better review, but my experience with the owner requires the lowest rating. I am a Stamford resident. I live in the cove neighborhood. I was at West beach on Sunday and ordered to go from Brennans. I called in my order of the spinach quesadilla and the little neck clams appetizer which was priced at $12.99 on their online menu. When i went to pick up my food my bill was higher than i anticipated, but the bartender had already run my credit card. I questioned why my check was higher, she told me the little neck clams are $20. That's $7 more than the advertised price, which is A LOT! I asked that they honor their advertised price, but she said she is only a manager and is not able to make decisions like that. I've been in the service industry for over ten years... managers are always empowered to make those decisions, which speaks volumes as to how the owner manages her business. The manager took my phone number and name and said i would have to wait for the owner to call me. The owner called me several hours later. I was very polite and explained what had happened. Mind you this is a small community and I support local business owners... this business owner doesn't care about her customers, nor the community in which her restaurant operates. She told me she would not honor her advertised price bc it is on their website. She said their menu says MP. I asked if she felt like it is her responsibility to update the pricing on her website and she agreed that it is her responsibility, but she would not honor the advertised price. This business owner would rather admittedly and wrongfully keep $7 in her pocket than service a customer. She's guilty of false advertising, but even worse, not having a care or concern for her customer's experience and the restaurants reputation in the community. Shame on you! read more
