We just we had was pleasant but did notattend to our needs as fast as we needed her to. When I asked for spicy sauce, she said they didn't have any. After she said she will check and brought me a salad dressing which was not even close to spicy. After I insisted for a hot sauce and her telling me they don't have one she finally brought out a couple variations of hot sauce. Was she just lazy to get it? I will never know. The fish was pretty good although lobster sauce was very bland and had no taste. It seemed to lack spices. Their bread and butter is pretty good so make sure you try that. Good food, nice staff, bad service. Super loud in there once the dinner rush came in so we had to pretty much yell to hear each other. Drinks were good but nothing like the New Orleans ones that they were based off of. I'd recommend going if you don't mind waiting an hour for your drinks and appetizers. Our server got two orders wrong, one of which took another 30 minutes to make. During which time, the rest of us finished our food since we'd been waiting there for about 1.5 hours at that point. Ordered carryout over the phone. They make you provide your credit card number in order to place a carryout. Ok, fine. Ordered alligator voodoo, calamari, and crab cakes (they said a side came with it. I asked for beans and rice, they said okay). My husband picked up the order, we got home and discovered they charged $33 for the crab cakes meal. They were the tiniest 3 crab cakes I've ever seen!! The bill included a charge of $4 for the beans and rice. They made no mention of the extra charge on the phone. I've been there before, there's always some minor issue, but ordering carryout was the biggest disappointment as they do not communicate extra charges, and it's not as easy to send your food back to the kitchen as it would be dining in. read more

Witnessed bartender texting away while servers waited for drinks, and two other additional managers standing around. Food was brought out, had to ask for rolls. It's back! The Southfield location was closed for remodeling for several months. It's now back open and it's a good thing. They have a lot of new staff so it's a little disjointed but nothing huge. Love Fishbones but the manager at this location is seriously the rudest person I've ever come across. My family made 3 separate reservations to celebrate a birthday. Once we arrived and the manager realized we were all together he purposely tried to seat our tables on opposite sides of the restaurant even though there were tables available in the same area. We understand COVID and that there are special seating rules but he didn't even try. He was nasty as soon as we checked in. We ultimately left, and found another restaurant who accommodated us without issue as well as observing COVID standards. Also, This was not my first experience dealing with him. Anytime at Fishbones is a great time. The staff is always friendly and willing to give their advice on what to have. The food never disappoints either. Hubby and I shared a Crunch Roll.... made with Shrimp and Krab and we also had the famous Alligator Voodoo. For entrees, I had the crawfish etouffee and he had the pasta orleans. Both were very flavorful and seasoned just right. The only downside, if I had to have one, is that our waiter offered us bread while we waited and then never came back to bring it. But hey. For a Saturday night it did not seem crowded. The waitress was nice however not very attentive. There were no prices on the mixed drinks and she said they range from $7-15. Most restaurants short you on the wine glass and since it's all the rage now, party and drug store wines are extremely overpriced. Same here. With a large party we expected slow service and received it; only one ordered appetizer which was quickly shared. The table rolls were tasty, warm and soft. Everyone seemed to enjoy with only a few complaints but felt the prices are too high especially since the choice of soup or salad is not included with a $25 entree of mostly noodles. Terrible food. Terrivle service. Came in with 2 friends. The restaurant was very far from busy and there were tons of waitstaff. We were seated immediately but waited at least 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to even give us water. The food is nothing spectacular, barely even good. The best thing we had was the free bread. The gumbo is just okay. I had catfish etouffee (might not be the exact name, it was grilled catfish covered in crawfish etouffee). I hate to send food back but it was so bad that I sent it back. When I told the waitress she stated that she would need to talk to her manager to see if I could get something else. I saw her go over and talk to the manager who very obviously had an attitude about it. She came back over to the table and informed me that I had to order another entree or else they would still make me pay for the food. In what world is that how that works?? I have worked in food service and usually the manager is a least supposed to come to the table to talk to the guest. He walked past our table 4 times after that and never once addressed us or even looked in our direction. I order my replacement entree and she asks "have you ever had that before?". Just rude. Our main courses were plated nicely, and the portion sizes were quite generous(I'd rather have a bit more than leave wishing I had eaten more. Maybe this was an off day for this location. Maybe the line for a party of eight I reserved and confirmed an hour ago? Wait, don't go back into the kitchen where you'll never be heard from again for 20 minutes... Fishbone's downtown location may earn kudos, but the Southfield location is the poor, unmotivated younger brother or sister riding on the coat-tails and name of an ambitious sibling/parent. As one of the midscale restaurants near work, we occasionally spring for a group luncheon here or I end up mistakenly wandering in hoping for spicy pasta and decent service. Every single time I am disappointed. That crowds appear at lunch time should not be a great shock for anyone raised in the past 2300 years, but Fishbone's seems genuinely unprepared for more than two people to appear in their foyer at any given moment. The restaurant could be empty and staff outnumbering guests three to one, and still the host(ess) fails to come up and seat someone. I've been that third person in a restaurant mid-afternoon on a late lunch, waiting in plain sight for someone to guide me to a table. Inch towards an open booth or snatch a menu, though, and see if a wooden spoon isn't flying towards your hands! I'll illustrate the typical Fishbone's experience: A Christmas lunch party with reservation proved the utmost low point for Fishbones. Eight coworkers waited in a half-empty restaurant at lunch for 30 minutes, along with multiple parties from 2 to 7. Two waitresses circulated around, oblivious to the crowd forming in the foyer trying to keep out of the cold. We all exchanged pained looks. We considered seating ourselves in a sparsely populated area near the bar or the multiple open booths. For my coworkers, the big round table would have been perfect. The manager wandered by to inform us the wait would only be a little longer. 15 minutes passed, and a party of three Ladies Who Bit... Lunch came in from the parking lot and got immediately seated at said round table that fit 10. The rest of the hungry diners ought to have mutinied on the spot. When we were finally seated at uncomfortable bar tables and stools, our waitress introduced herself, took our drink orders, and ran out to have a manicure. In Grand Rapids. We looked over the lackluster menu with the vague pangs of hunger experienced by marathon runners, guerrilla soldiers, and crash survivors in the Sahara. We sat down 45 minutes after our reservation (and showing up 5-10 minutes early to make setting up the table easier). Fishbone's serves an eclectic array of seafood, as though it can't make up its mind to be a Cajun restaurant, a southern downhome restaurant, a sushi bar or an American seafood restaurant. Personality conflicts show up on the menu and I seriously doubted the value of the sushi when I didn't see a cleaning rag in sight around the sushi bar, and the chef back there was tooling around without a care. Raw fish is nothing to mess with. If cleanliness doesn't scare you away, the prices for sushi should. Sushi Ko on Orchard Lake is a short drive away, and Whole Foods' sushi case is bound to be fresher and prepared under better circumstances. The rest of the lunch specials barely quantify as specials with high prices. My group ordered jambalaya, pasta, shrimp, salmon, gumbo, and a salad. The salad was the best thing out there. The rest of us picked at our unseasoned food despite asking for medium or hot spices. My jambalaya was scared by a flame and mired in mushy glop resembling concrete mix instead of rice. It tasted like tomato paste. If there were shrimp, they were shriveled by embarrassment. Our manicured waitress returned once to refill our drinks, taking our half-full plates shoved to the end of the bar-counters as a sign we were satisfied and still eating. She then started planning her next vacation while we cooled our heels, flashed napkin semaphore at the manager/other underworked server for our bill, and pondered walking out. We should've walked out. 2.5 hours after our reservation, we got back to work and raided the fridge for yogurt, fruit, and anything else we brought to make up for the deficit. For the money, this restaurant is a terrible deal. Add up one of my coworkers ended up sick to his stomach from the gumbo and it just sealed the deal. When we came in the door he treated us like we were a inconvenience instead of 12 paying customers. We understood we could not sit together due to COVID restrictions, but to purposely sit us on opposite sides of the restaurant when there were empty tables near each other was ridiculous. He was nasty and insensitive. We ultimately left and went to another restaurant that give us quality customer service. I will never return to this fishbone location.
