I wish this was closer to Portland. Then again, I don't wish that at all, as the snobby city-folk would probably destroy the charm of this place. It is a relaxed and unassuming vibe. Everyone seemed to be locals/regulars. The fish market is on the left side, and the dining area on the right. They let me know to just sit anywhere, and yes, they do table service. The haddock sandwich is outstanding. The fish was fresh, of quality, and still moist. The bun is nothing to scoff at, as they use quality bread from a proper bakery and not a factory. We ventured out in the cold to take Wayne's dad out for haddock. The menu options are quite extensive, and lots of combinations available. The fried haddock & shrimp were super fresh, lightly breaded and a generous portion. The fries were good, the onion rings and clam cake seemed like frozen - would probably not order again. On the way out we noticed the pre-packaged stuff - so will look more at that next time. Service was friendly & efficient. This was my first visit . It's a nice clean restaurant and seafood market that doesn't smell like one. The employees are friendly and helpful . Before visiting I did call because I was unsure if they had a place to eat in . My guest had coffee and they said it was great ! We both ordered combination plates of haddock and scallops with onion rings . We were served ice water when we were sat. That was nice . They had premium quality napkins and plastic cutlery . The haddock was amazing ! Along with the onion rings ! Perfect ! The scallops were huge ! But very wet so they were not crispy . I asked . So I was hoping to get bacon wrapped scallops or a lobster dinner which was not on the menu . They do sell live lobsters in tanks . Although the breading didn't have much flavor the oil they used tasted very clean . No after taste . We ordered a cup of seafood chowder to try but we're too full. Would liked to have seen more onion rings for the up charge as they were delish ! I will be back for sure ! Next time I'll try the steamed lobster dinner or the Maine man lobster roll ! Blueberry habanero sauce ! Yum ! Ps I'd prefer tartar sauce in individual cups instead of large squeeze bottles used over and over. On table room temp then in fridge then out and in . Mayo spoils . Super tasty, clean, and staffed with very pleasant people. Found this on our way north for a long weekend and enjoyed it so much we stopped again on the way back. The service was super friendly and the young ladies working the counter were so patient with my son who was being difficult about what to order. We ended up with 2 jumbo lobster rolls which were WELL worth the price of $35, a crab roll and the haddock chowder. The bun was perfectly grilled and buttered. Loved the lemon butter on the lobster. I stopped here this morning just after they opened and was greeted by 3 very nice women. I ordered an early lunch in the small dining room next to the fish market. 1. Lobster roll: the regular-sized, classic roll had large chunks of meat that tasted like it was in Casco Bay earlier that morning with just a tiny bit of mayo on a pretty hefty, perfectly toasted bun. I was born and raised in Maine and worked many a summer in the old Cap'n Newicks in South Portland and this was one of the better rolls I've had in a long time. Cost= $26. 2. Side of calamari: see above, I've cooked and eaten more seafood than probably 99.9% of the world's population, and this calamari was perfect. The rings were tender (no mean feat) and the tentacles were crispy and delicious. Cost= $10. My server was super pleasant. I remember wait staff back in the day at the old restaurant would almost always be cranky with the first customer of the day. Not here! I'll have to drive back up from Mass in the fall to try some fried clams. Thanks for a nice experience! read more

Figured I'd give the fishermens net a whirl. I've wanted to check this place out but never really had the excuse. My "go to" seafood joint is in Portland but I really didn't feel like making the trip. And what if this place turned out to be the bomb? Perfect excuse :) I looked at the menu online and noticed right away that you can pick and choose what you want in your seafood platter which is cool because the other joint I go to makes it clear, "No Substitutions". I called and ordered a seafood platter with haddock, scallops, and clams. I added onion rings instead of adding the usual french fries. Usually that just comes with the platter. Oh well. I ordered a lobster roll as well with butter, no mayo. She was very friendly on the phone. I was 10 minutes up the road. When I got there I could smell it cooking as soon as I opened my car door. Mmmmm. There is seating outside. Maybe 4 or 5 mini picnic tables up against the front of the store entrance. The food was done pretty much as soon as I walked in. Very friendly staff. Nice, clean place. Decent beer selection too. The lobster roll and seafood platter came to $43. I was a little surprised at first, but once I got it out of the bag it made sense. The thing was PACKED with lobster meat. All in all I wasn't sure how the pricing went and I wish I paid more attention just for future visits. My wife didn't care for it. I couldn't believe it. She loves lobster. She's a lobster fiend. She didn't like that it was cold meat and she wished she got it with mayo. I tried to tell her lobster rolls are usually served that way. I found nothing wrong with it at all. As far as the fishermens platter, it was... nice. About 6 good size scallops, an okay amount of medium to small size clams, and the haddock was good, 2 or 3 pieces but not much to them. The portions of fish were just a little too thin for me. I like nice meaty portions. But the batter was nice, crisp and light. The onion rings were okay too. Didn't come with Cole slaw FYI. And honestly, for the price, the portion was on the smaller side. In all, The Fishermens Net is a place that I'd like to explore a little more. I've had bigger, better, and tastier fried seafood that was priced slightly better, but I've also had a lot worse to just down right unacceptable at other spots just as well. I want to give them my business just because its a decent spot with friendly staff. The seafood is fresh and there's plenty more on their menu worth trying. I may just stop in for a 6 pack of local brew you won't be finding at Hannaford. I give them a respectable solid 3 stars. read more
