My physical therapist (PT, outside of Orthosport) is very impressed with the progress I've made with Cassidy because she incorporates my PT's recommendations into my workouts and adjusts every session according to what my body needs that day. My balance (which was embarrassingly poor when I first started training with Cassidy in 2023) has improved significantly and my daily pain level has gone down drastically! With my unique medical needs, it has been challenging to find a gym and a fitness trainer I can trust fully, particularly because I experienced recurrent injuries caused by working out for many years. Even though every workout still kicks my butt, I always look forward to seeing Cassidy because I never have to worry about getting injured and I know I'll feel so much better after our sessions. A customer's experience with such personalized service usually banks on their relationship with their therapist. In this case, we are fortunate to be aligned with Summer. She's a pro - patient, clear in her exercise instructions, encouraging (yet firm), and flexible with some of our last minute scheduling issues (Niu Valley is quite a commute from Moanalua). The facility is right behind Jack in the Box on Kalanianaole Hwy; the light at the left turning lane can try your patience. Parking during lunch hour can be a little challenging; fortunately it is very large parking lot shared by other businesses. They do a nice job with scheduling/changing your appointments, and the email reminders really do help (as does the $50 penalty if you cancel in less than 24 hours). All in all, the experience of going through this form of PT along with the physical exertion without impact to your joints is definitely worthwhile!

Long story short I really have a bad taste in my mouth from certain providers. I found them to be condescending and to position themselves as the authority, rather than evoking and collaborating with my wisdom and expertise on my own body. Also I find that people who are naturally thin tend to make a lot of assumptions about women who aren't naturally thin in terms of how fit we are. Your assumptions were wrong. However for Tara, she made me feel very seen and heard and took a far more collaborative approach. Additionally she stayed curious about what was going on and made some really crucial observations which lead to me seeking further medical tests and learning that in contrast to PT's diagnoses, I actually have osteoarthritis and a totally shredded up hip joint with multiple tears and degenerative cartilage at the most severe level someone can have. I wish I'd sought more testing sooner as I might have been able to intervene before the damage got this bad but super grateful to Tara for her insight and suggestions. She was amazing start to finish. So overall, mixed bag. I hope the other providers can take a more humble approach, recognizing the strengths and wisdom of their clients.

When he asked me where would I like to have my pt, I was expecting him to refer me to the Queen's Healthcare Facility in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center but was taken back when he referred me to this place (located in the ground floor) of the building to the right of the Hi Kai 7-11/Boston Pizza building. My one hour long therapy was from 5-6pm 2x per week, then shortened to 1x week from early June to mid August. Martin, my therapist was very personable and knew his techniques and knew where my threshold of pain were and stopped before I screamed in pain. It came to a point in August where he told me that there was not much more he can do to relieve the pain, and said that I needed to go back to Dr. Morris. This was great in showing that their business wasn't trying to 'milk' the system for all they could, and I appreciate that ! Business hours were great to accommodate patients, as there was another person who had pt after mine ended at 6 pm. The reason for only 4 stars is that this office space is quite small, but looked larger than it was due to the numerous wall mounted mirrors. The waiting room is just a few feet to the room where pt is done, so whoever is waiting inside can hear the conversation going on, so what I usually did was just to wait outside until their session was pau. A consistent PT can track your progress, understand your limitations, and adjust your program the way true one-on-one training should. 2. When they ask, "Have you been doing your exercises?" Respond with: "Did you review my data and history before this session?" My experience was being passed between multiple trainers. Without getting into the weeds, no one consistently reviewed my charts before sessions. That matters. Without context, it's impossible to ask the right questions or receive targeted guidance. Each session, I was measured and data was recorded--but no one explained what it meant. I was never told how I was progressing, especially regarding range of motion or outcomes. Jaco uses a high-tech system that allows them to charge a $50 cancellation fee within 24 hours, yet trainers weren't consistently inputting or reviewing data to deliver informed sessions. At one point, the lead PT had to step in mid-session to guide the trainer I was working with on what I should actually be doing. After two months of this, I canceled my sessions and am now looking for another PT provider.
