I truly believe this is the place you come to be the best dancer you can be. But not only that, it's also where children learn hard work, dedication, love for your craft and your instrument, and self discipline. All of which will take them so far in life despite their chosen paths. The teachers treat the children as their own. We always refer to the teachers as our kid's second, third, and fourth (and so on) mom! They absolutely look out for their best interest. The director is amazing. Her knowledge of ballet and her expertise is not something you'd expect to get here, and if so, definitely not at the prices she charges. It's so affordable and there are no costume purchases or crazy fees! You will not find anything like this elsewhere! She also loves and cares for her students so very much. This place is a rare diamond that Arlington is blessed to have. It truly is an honor to be a part of this dance family. I can't imagine our life without Art Ballet Academy, and I know many families and students can agree. The proof is at the end of the night, when it's time to go, and every kid in that lobby is doing everything they can to delay leaving. If they could sleep there, they wouldn't think twice about it! They love their home away from home...

Pros: Conveniently located--right off the service road and very close to restaurants, grocery stores, and a dance shop. Affordable--tuition is much less than other studios in the area. Very good technique--teachers are extremely knowledgeable. This is a great place to advance skills and prepare for a career in ballet. This studio is for serious dancers. Cons: Toxic--students are clique-ish, teachers are condescending, and moms are snooty. I can't stress enough the frigidity of this place. They only encourage a career in ballet, not love of dance. If your child isn't serious about ballet, consider going elsewhere. They are very obvious with who their favorite students are. Every time you walk through their door, be prepared to get snubbed by teachers and/or parents. Cheap--tuition may be low, but they will nickel and dime you for every little thing. Those things may be optional, but you will stick out like a sore thumb and be made to feel like an outcast. Also, there are kids who run around acting like they live there, bringing in fast food and stinking up the place. (Contradicting right? How dare you snub people but bring in fast food?)

We decided to change to this studio as they had a class time that worked perfectly with our work…read moreschedule. However, we are now planning to return to our old studio. They provide misleading info to parents. Their main webpage states the following things: "Performance Opportunities - All of our classes perform several times throughout the year at community performances!" - this is incorrect. Our daughter's class was not scheduled to be in any community performances this year. Unless they mean the end of the year recital which I will discuss below. "We also offer Parent Observation the last week of each month in every class. You can come to the last 10 minutes of your child's class and see what they have been working on!" - incorrect. Our daughter has been there since August and we have only been allowed to watch her class one time. The studio is small and grungy. There is limited room in the lobby and folding chairs to sit on. There is one parent there each week who is constantly yelling and cussing at her kids in the lobby which makes everyone uncomfortable. They have a tiny screen on the wall which shows your child's class, but it is too small to see anything clearly. When I signed my daughter up for classes online, I made sure that I did not check the box allowing for automatic withdrawal payments each month. I paid her first months tuition at the front desk. Curiously, after this happened, her tuition began getting automatically withdrawn from my checking account each month. I never provided consent for this. The "winter recital" is not a recital. We were charged $35 for her to participate. We assumed it would be at a theatre or stage. We found out later it is merely a show at the studio. The parents sit in the studio and the kids do their dance. Why were we charged $35 for us to watch our kids dance in their classroom? Isn't this the "parent observation?" We were under the impression our daughter's class would be doing both a ballet and tap dance at the end year recital. Last week we paid her costume fee. Other parents were also paying the fee and it was asked if this would be for both the ballet and tap costumes. The fee was $90. The front desk person looked confused and had to go ask a teacher. We were then informed that the $90 fee was for ONE costume and her class would only be doing one dance at the end of year recital. Nothing had been said about her class only doing one dance. It is a tap/ballet combo class, so we all just assumed they would be doing both a tap and a ballet number at the recital. Tuition at this studio is $70 a month for one class, which is much higher than other studios in the area. So you are paying $70 a month and a $90 costume fee the entire year for your child to get onstage and do one dance. Most dance studios in this area (including the one we came from) allows each class to do both a ballet and tap dance at the end of year recital and the tuition is a lot less. When we addressed our concerns with the studio they told us they have done it this way for 15 years and it helps keep the recital length down. Most studios break the recital into two seperate recitals if recital length is a concern. That way the classes are allowed to perform both dances and show what they have learned that year. We never would have signed our daughter up at this studio if it had been made clear ahead of time that she would only be doing one recital dance for the entire year. This is very misleading and unfair. We decided that night to pull our daughter from the studio and sent an email informing them she would not be back. We asked if we could please have the costume fee refunded to us since we had literally just paid it a few hours ago, and the studio had not informed us ahead of time that she would only be preforming one dance at the recital. We have heard Nothing back. I checked her account online and she is still enrolled, so I can assume my account will probably get charged for the next months tuition even though we never gave consent for automatic payments.
