We've stayed here twice now. When we visited in 2024, the rooms were run down and didn't match the photos online. Brendan, in particular, handled the situation wonderfully. He explained that renovations were in progress and that the rooms shouldn't have been released in that condition. He called me personally and was incredibly kind throughout the conversation. Because of him, we decided to give it another shot this year and we were so impressed! We stayed in a newly renovated room, and the experience was much better. The room was clean, with a very new bathroom, and it's clear the hotel has made significant improvements. The location is fantastic, just a block from Grand Central, making the subway incredibly convenient. The hotel is beautifully decorated during the holidays, and the bar downstairs is always lively, with live music on Fridays. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, and overall, this stay exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to come back and would recommend this hotel! This hotel was a good location near a lot of areas in New York. Staff was very friendly, check-in and out was simple and quick. We stayed in a deluxe queen room, there wasn't a very nice view but the room was good for the 3 day stay. The noise level was great actually, people always say they hear all the street noise but we actually didn't, we probably were also just very tired. They don't have ice in the hallways, the have a restaurant downstairs you can eat at, not included, and there is a bar outside next door too. Overall, nice stay I would stay here again. :) read more

Great location, great staff, super clean! I took the train into Grand Central and the hotel was a very easy 5-10 minute walk even with a roller abd backpack. Checkin was SUPER quick and staff was very welcoming. Staff was super friendly and very attentive. Huge difference between a boutique hotel like this and the big chains from that perspective. Rooms are on the small size like most in NYC, but I e been in smaller. Bathroom was renovated recently and I appreciate that. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Nice area too! The Wheeltapper pub is 2 doors down but interestingly has an entrance right from hotel lobby. Loud Irish pub and restaurant with good energy if that's your thing. I went out early for coffee (restaurant not open yet) and asked gentleman at front desk if he'd like coffee. He said he doesn't drink it but then called me over to his desk and handed me a Dunkin Donuts gift card - and that's exactly where I was going to go! 5 stars for that alone! :) The maid left me slippers and a couple bottles of water. I had one night stay with a king bed, located on the second floor. There are both a cafe and an Irish Pub all connected to the hotel. The room size is fairly small but it's all you need when most time is spent out and about, more than two could be quite cramped. What I didn't expect is to not have a full set of bath towels for two, missing everything but one towel was provided. When I tried to call I realized our fancy cordless phone was dead, so I had to get dressed to head down stairs to make the request. Also had a dead lamp in the room which required engineering to come up and change a lightbulb. What a pain to start my stay after a very long day. Room was okay on noise as 44th is not too busy, it's a bit dated for the price but was clean. After making my frustrations known the next morning to the staff, the only offer for recovery was a business card so sad to say I will not be back. As a hotelier, the basics were missed and should have been treated as more of a serious offense Than a small oversight. read more

When in NY I generally stay in the Grand Central area and have tried most of the hotels between 40th and 48th. This was a last minute reservation as my go to was over $350. Got a room at Fitzpatrick on Priceline for ~ $200. What I liked is they didn't have any unreasonable pop up fees. Total tax / fees were ~ $20. Glad I tried the Fitzy. Nice lobby. Nice welcoming staff. Hot cocoa on arrival. Free coffee in the morning. Pub off lobby looked popular. They were having a party and it was loud up to fourth floor but it stopped at 9:30pm. Room was small even but acceptable. Bathroom was new. Both were Hilton / Marriott clean. Bed was really comfortable. Overall solid stay and would stay again. read more

Stayed overnight with a friend who was only staying for 2 nights in the city & wanted to stay close to grand central. The room we stayed in was pretty barebones (no fridge which i thought was super weird) and a lot of it didnt work (including a lamp, a light switch, & the shower drain, and the heat/ac unit worked but didnt work too well). As I was in their room, finding 1 problem after the other, I asked my friend if maybe we should go down to get another room, but they declinrd as THIS WAS ALREADY THE 2ND ROOM. Apparently the first room they were placed had no heating & the shower wasnt really working... My friend being the non-confrontational person they are didnt want to bother considering they were leaving the next morning. Overall I cant recommend staying - especially knowing that my friend stayed in 2 different rooms on 2 different nights, and even then, the rooms werent right. The only reason Im giving 2/5 instead of 1/5 is that it is very close to grand central. read more

I expected more than we got but it was ok. The bed was far too soft. The shower was decent. Seemed to be a shortage of lighting in the room. Same goes for plugs. WiFi is not free which I find astonishing these days but my 4g worked fine. I didn't mind using that thanks to the plan I'm on but for others travelling it's not ideal. This was not my first visit to NYC, and in past visits I've stayed in other NYC hotel room which were smaller than "shoeboxes". I was quite pleased with Fitzpatrick, which I would classify as a Euro Boutique hotel. The rooms were not gigantic, by any means, but in NYC standards, it was quite large. Meaning, at least I could walk around my bed, and even walk to the bathroom. There was plenty of storage space, plenty of closet space, and even had a safe for your belongings. The room also had a coffee maker and a desk. The bathroom was quite spacious, and had a tub and shower. The downside was the water pressure wasn't the best, and while taking a shower, the water would go cool, and then hot. I wasn't pleased with the toiletries provided, and should have brought my own shampoo and shower gel. But then, that's my preference. The toiletries were some unknown brand made in China, and provided no lather. If you're picky, I'd suggest BYO. My dad found this on Priceline, so I'm sure we didn't pay full price. Its located off East 44th/ Lexington, and is close to the Chrysler Building, 2 minutes from the Grand Central Terminal, and about 15 minutes walk to Radio City/ Rockefeller. I would stay here again. I just had a wonderful stay at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central as part of a weekend getaway to NYC! The trip was decided upon somewhat last minute, so I was nervous that I wouldn't find a decent hotel in Manhattan. Fortunately, there were still rooms available at the FGC and I was able to snag one at a favorable rate. You cannot beat the location of this hotel. It is right across the street from Grand Central and not far from Duane Reade, Dunkin Donuts, and Starbucks. Upon arriving, you will probably be met at the door by a smiling doorman who will help you carry your bags in. The staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. We experienced no problems during our stay and found that everyone was willing to help us carry bags, find our airport shuttle, and get a reservation at a great restaurant. Most of them sounded Irish, which was a charming touch of authenticity in the middle of NYC. The lobby is small compared to an American chain, but it felt very welcoming and European to me. The size of the rooms was more than adequate, and I never once heard my neighbors or hall noise during our stay. Both the lobby and the rooms were tastefully decorated and made me feel right at home. If you need a quick bite or drink, check out the Wheeltapper attached to the hotel. We found the food to be decent, the service fast, and a table was easy to grab. All in all, two thumbs up for this place . . . I already can't wait to go back! read more

I recently stayed here for two nights. The room was okay, the bathroom was the best part, large for nyc. The interior is very traditional and old school. The room I stayed in had very old looking furnishings, so if you're into that style it's a plus. From photos I saw online I thought there was a rooftop/deck area, although I was not able to find that... The location of this hotel is great. Close to many good restaurants and grand central station. Staff was nice. My room didn't come with a tv remote or ice bucket, so I had to call for those items, they were brought within ten minutes. Updated bathrooms and clean. Staff does a great job. No added or hidden fees by hotel. Great prices. We did the Parking, Parks and Perks Package...complimentary valet parking fir each night, welcome adult beverage, guide to central park, complimentary wifi, complimentary health safety kit and bottle water upon departure. Disappointing...especially after written email confirmation on parking. Upon arrival there was no doorman/valet/porter to assist with luggage or to valet park vehicle. Was informed it was self park at the garage. Desk staff confirmed we had the package and say the manager who assisted me was let go. We never were offered drinks, the guide, safety kit or bottled water. We enjoyed our stay with the exception of desk staff and misrepresented perks. This could just have been the staff member, so I would recommend asking for clarification. read more

My son and I had a great weekend in New York recently. We searched for reasonably priced hotels and with some trepidation (no experience), booked the Fitzpatrick Grand Central sight unseen. It turned out to be a jewel. It is small, which was appealing, the staff were all delightful, the room were excellent, and the locations was just right (there are two more Fitzpatrick Hotels in Manhattan in other locations). My son's room had an air conditioning problem, and within fifteen minutes, they moved him to another room....totally no hassle. I enthusiastically recommend this place as a great value for a very pleasant stay in New York City. read more

Bar food is good but you are also central to many other restaurants in the area. I have noticed others mentioned regarding a charge for WiFi, I believe and hope this is now resolved and you can get free WiFi. Can't wait to return in a December although I will try for a higher room so as not to be near an office at the front that get trash removal each morning, that was disappointing last year, but not the hotels fault! If I could give 0 stars I would ( RACIST HOTEL ) ** Ive been hesitant on reviewing this for a full week ** from a Irish women who is married to a man of color this seem to offend me in many way. For starters, we've visited the Manhattan location before and we've never experienced such a disgusting experience like this. The wheel tapper is a beautiful pub, close to home. I was so honored in bringing my husband to just feel the Irish spirit. But when I pass by the hotel I was so embarrassed to know this was the same Irish owner hotel, the staff we're so unprofessional, no one greeted us In fact, we even sat down to have some drinks behind the elevator where we could over hear staff speaking about relationships/ special vips ? Laughing very loud and being on their phone, looking down at their desk like if it was school for them. I've never visited a hotel who only accommodates people of their OWN ethnicity the best rooms. When me and my husband over heard this I went into the bathroom just before we left where there was tissues on the floor and toilets had pee on the seat. We got so disgusted we left the drinks at the table, What's more embarrassing is this behavior was done by Irish folks, my own people. 0/10 ! DO NO WASTE YOUR TIME. If i could give an accurate star rating I'd say 3.5. I know that in NY you just have to just accept certain quirks. Still, I'm more puzzled by my negative experience than anything else. Let's start with the pros. Location: good for midtown east business. But then so are most hotels here. Size: the rooms are actually a good size for NY. There's ample room around the bed to walk around! Bathroom: updated Cons These are a combo of bad luck, and then more structural issues. The first room i was given smelled of mold and must. The second room had green/yellow water. I ran water for a bath and came back to see it this color. The engineer came up (unmasked !?) And told me I needed to let it just run for a while longer. It did clear up but i didn't want to linger too long under the water so i didn't do a bath in the end. Heater: each room has a window unit that's loud. This might be more common here in the city than central but just a heads up bc it's pretty noisy. Paid wifi! This one really surprised me. Who in 2021 charges daily wifi rates in guest rooms? So bizarre! For my next trip I'd definitely try to find something else before coming back but it's a mixed experience. Not horrible but not great. read more

We had stayed here at a room with king sized bed, and it was great. We returned a few years later and stayed at a room with queen sized bed instead. Not too great. A/C made a rattling noise that made it harder to sleep. Bed was comfy and bathroom was nice. It's conveniently located and has the parking garage nearby that makes it very easy if you drive into the city. In the room, the carpet was sticky and I didn't feel good walking barefoot in. We stayed for 2 nights, and when we returned after a long day of walking around, we found out they hadn't cleaned our room. Bummer! I don't think we'll be staying here again. read more

We stayed at the Fitzpatrick this past weekend and it was SO lovely. First of all, I wasn't aware of this when booking, but this hotel boasts of its Irish charm, and it was VERY charmingly Irish indeed. There was a copy of Irish American magazine in our rooms, a shelf full of books penned by Irish authors in the hallway in front of the elevators, etc. We felt immediately welcomed upon check-in. Smiles abound, the staff was extremely courteous, and we were even offered lemonade to drink. (It was delicious, thank you again!) Speaking on the Irish charm of the hotel, there were a few Irish employees - whether they were truly Irish or not, I guess I'll never know - and it did add a little something to our experience of the Fitzpatrick. (Although my boyfriend has a bit of trouble understanding the Irish brogue. ^^;) The staff was really extremely kind and accommodating, and I felt so incredibly taken care of and welcome at the hotel. They held our bags the day we checked out while we explored a bit more before going back home. Our room was quite nice. It had more than enough room for me, a little mini-fridge for storing any leftovers you may bring back from your foodie adventures out, a TV, a large desk that had enough room to work but wasn't so big that it took up much of the room. The bathroom was also large and comfortable. The room WAS rather warm our first night, as I've seen some reviews mention, and there aren't thermostats within the room, but it wasn't an issue the next day. Of course, the location is excellent, as well. A stone's throw from Grand Central Terminal. While the wi-fi isn't free, we seemed to be located on an AT&T hotspot, so I was able to use the internet on my phone without a hitch. And while I did hear a door close a few times, it was really nice and quiet. read more

Also, I was given a voucher to cover breakfast and at the end of my meal when I handed the waiter my voucher I was told what I ate wasn't covered by the voucher and charged $20. The system is intentionally opaque to trick you into spending money. I will never stay here again! read more

Stayed here while attending a work conference in the city. The hotel is nice, the rooms are clean, but for $400 a night, I thought there was a lot to be desired. For starters, there's no mini fridge or water, or anything in the room. I came back from dinner and it was pretty late, called the front desk and room service and nobody picked up. I had to go to the lobby and the gentleman told me that if I wanted water I had to go to the bar (seriously???). You think $400 a night gets you free wifi? Think again. My wife and I booked a one-night getaway for December 26, 2019, which we were unable to utilize due to a family emergency. I would like to emphasize that this one-star review is not being given for the Fitzpatrick's failure to offer us a refund, partial refund or credit, but for their lack of communication with regards to that failure. As a result of a family emergency, our booking had to be cancelled. I knew that a refund or partial refund was unlikely, but figured I would call and ask, and maybe if they couldn't (or wouldn't) offer a refund, they'd offer a credit or partial credit toward a future stay. So, with that in mind, I called guest relations and explained the situation. Guest relations told me that they were the wrong department to speak to and that I should be speaking to reservations, and so I was connected to reservations. Once on the phone with reservations, I was told that for cancellations so close to the actual booking time (this was, in fact, last minute), the reservations staff did not have the authority to offer refunds or credits, but that the hotel management did, that doing so was in their discretion, and that exceptions for family medical issues were not uncommon. I was told to write an email and given an email address. I was told I would receive a response shortly after. I did just that, but never received a response. Once I knew I would be unable to use this booking, I was disappointed to say the least, but certainly I hoped the hotel would meet us half-way and allow us to reschedule for a later date. I then got my hopes up when the reservations desk informed me that that exact remedy was well within management's discretion, and was not uncommon. To then receive no response at all from management felt as if the hotel was literally saying "we have his money, what do we care," which is not the impression I'd like from a business I'd attempted to patronize, and was still attempting to patronize. It's true, the Fitzpatrick did get my money. They might also have gotten my recommendations to friends and family. Instead, they have an unhappy customer, and it's unquestionably the last time they will get my money. When friends and family come to New York, I'll simply advise them to stay at any one of the hundreds of other hotels. A few hundred dollars for a satisfied customer is a pretty good investment, and one the Fitzpatrick was foolish not to make. The Fitzpatrick dropped the ball here. A little communication and some good customer service goes a long way. read more

I was in the city for the weekend for work and they put me up in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central. My room was decent, but as I spent my first night in it, I began to notice a number of issues including a window that leaked when it rained, a stained shower curtain, and some mold in the shower grout. I passed my concerns along to the front desk and they were more than accommodating. They put me in a different room with an upgrade, gave me tickets for a free drink and breakfast, and gave me complimentary wifi. The rest of my stay was great, but I do think this hotel could use a deep refresh and the fact that they charge you almost $15 per day for wifi is a bit ridiculous. That said, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Update: Upon checkout I left my bags with the front desk and picked them up three hours later. At that time, I noticed my umbrella was missing from my backpack and they went and found it in the luggage room. However, right after I left the hotel and was on my way to the airport, I also noticed that my expensive S'well bottle had a large dent in it. I called multiple times throughout the week and was told I'd be called back, but never was. Eventually, someone got back to me and although I was originally told they were finding a way to reimburse me for my damaged item, they changed their minds and said there's nothing they can do. I understand that leaving your bags with the front desk does not make them liable (as they made sure they told me when changing their minds), but this entire process has been very frustrating. With so many hotels in NYC, I can't say I'd recommend this one. read more

I'm currently staying here for three nights while spending some time working out of our New York offices. I'm actually enjoying the place quite a bit since it's meeting my three basic room requirements plus a few great extras. Those three are of course a comfortable bed with nice linens, cleanliness overall and a great, hot shower. I also like the fact that I'm on the 5th floor in the back of the hotel, which faces the backs of some other office buildings, and the room is so QUIET. I mean, I can't remember the last time I said that about any hotel room in Manhattan. Ever. Things I see that need improvement: they've tried really hard and failed miserably with the lobby. I think it's supposed to be some kind of Irish library or something with faux shelves of books and little uncomfortable-looking sitting areas, but it's just not cutting it. The lobby entrance and surrounding areas are awkward and stark, with all flourescent lighting and bright green carpeting. It's kind of unsettling. The whole lobby needs an overhaul big time with the addition of some good lighting and some comfortable overstuffed furniture or something. The whole place makes me just rush through it and make a mad dash for the elevator to get up to my room. Speaking of which, my room is also quite dark, which I actually like. I don't have to worry about bright, stark sunlight in the morning, especially since I'm still on West Coast time. I'd highly recommend this place for business or pleasure travel, since the rooms are on the smaller size, but well-appointed and even comes with a nice robe. Haven't had any opportunity to interact with the staff except at check-in, and that was adequate, but my housekeeping seems to be totally on it. I'll definitely stay here again. read more

On a solo trip to NY, I was having trouble finding a reasonably priced room that wasn't scary. I wanted to stay at the same hotel I had stayed at a couple of months before, but their prices had doubled. The Fitzpatrick had good reviews, so I booked it, but I never felt great about it. The pictures make it look really dated, especially the lobby area. In fact, I had a freak out moment the night before and tried to cancel my visit; they wouldn't let me. I arrived at the hotel after the most hellacious travel experience. It was late, I was hot, stressed, cranky, tired, but the guy behind the front desk (guy working the night of September 30th), was so freaking awesome. With one line he made me laugh, and he completely turned my night around. Because of him I not only had a better night but felt more optimistic about my room. My room (618) was adorable. It was clean and cozy. From the pictures I was worried that the door wouldn't have a deadbolt, it did. I was also worried about the bathroom window not being covered, it was. Finally, I was worried about the tiny looking TVs; mine was an adequate size. I slept great. My bed was comfortable, the room cooled quickly, and it was so lovely in the morning to wake up to sun streaming into the room and the bathroom. My complaints are short. 1. The water pressure sucks. 2. I didn't like that they wouldn't let me cancel my stay, though I'm glad they didn't. 3. The toiletries look cool, but they're actually from China and of poor quality. I would stay here again. It's a comfy room for 1 person. I'm not a huge fan of the location. Personally, I prefer to walk so being near Grand Central is more of a con than a pro. It's close to Bryant Park, and I also walked to Central Park from the room. In theory, I think you could walk everywhere, but it's not as convenient as Time Square. read more

I stayed in one of the Junior Suites, and it was bordering on palatial. The lobby and common areas were your standard upscale hotel fare: clean floors, polished brass, etc. The staff downstairs were friendly and attentive, and just as importantly they all sported authentic Irish accents. But it was the suite that really stood out. Given the location, the room was huge. I wouldn't have known what to do with a larger space. Being a suite, it had a little sitting room separated by a columned gateway - hilarious and completely unnecessary. It was designed that way so that they could call it a suite, but really it was just a larger-than-average room, which is what I wanted in the first place. The bathroom, too, was fantastic. A poor bathroom can break an otherwise outstanding room, but this one was up to snuff. Large bathtub, plenty of water pressure, and all of the fancy-smelling samples my girlfriend could ask for. This hotel is Irish, and they don't want you to forget it. That is fantastic - rare is the American who doesn't claim some sliver of Irish ancestry. Just beware of the green. Oh, the green. The photographs on the website show a beautifully decorated room but my suite was decked out in shocking shades. I felt like I was sleeping in an emerald. It was an assault on the senses, but I came to like it. And skip the attached "Wheeltapper Pub". New York has much more to offer. You might grab a beer (a properly poured Guinness, for instance) and eavesdrop on some Irish-accented conversation, but don't bother eating there. It's nothing special. read more

Like I said, next time I'm in town I'll stay here again. I was so I did. Although I downgraded the rating to 4 stars I have to say that the hotel is still pretty good. There were just a few differences this time from the last. Here are a few points: - The drain didn't drain very well so my feet were in water while I showered - The room (standard king) was good, but didn't feel as comfortable as last time. One wall was completely bare, no artwork or anything. + Staff is very friendly and accommodating. + Excellent location (still). You're right next to Grand Central and within walking distance to Times Square, the UN, the subway, and the Empire State Building. I paid about $138 for the room before taxes and an additional $60 for one day of valet parking. For this price you really can't beat this hotel. It's clean, warm, friendly, and will be my go-to hotel in New York from now on. read more

I never wanted to get out bed -- I've stayed in a lot of Heavenly Bed- and Sweet Sleeper-equipped hotel rooms and none of them holds a candle to the cloud-like softness of our sheets and comforter. The room was also a lot larger than I expected, especially for the NYC-reasonable price of $289/night. The staff was nice and professional, and the bartender makes an excellent Irish coffee. The only flaw was the 45 minutes it took the bellman to find us a cab when we were ready to go to the airport. read more

I went to New York with my girlfriend to propose. We stayed for about a week. The rooms are small, but you can expect that for the price of this hotel since it is in Manhattan. It is less than a block to get to the subway, and therefor all of New York. The staff were helpful, and room service prompt. The internet cost money, which was unfortunate because I only planned half of the stay, the other half I left open to chance. Fortunately my phone got great reception, so I was able to use yelp and open table. I would stay here again because the price and location are right. read more

The hotel and staff were wonderful. I called prior to our stay to let them know it was an anniversary and to see if we could get a bottle of wine to the room. When we arrived they were so kind and upgraded our room and gave us a bottle of champagne. The room was beautiful and among one of the most spacious in New York that I've stayed at. The staff at the restaurant bar were also awesome. Definitely won't stay anywhere else and would recommend to anyone. read more

My only complaint is that they denied my required to check out late (around 2 hours after the usual check out time). This was on the grounds that the room had been "sold". I am skeptical of that since the hotel did not look anywhere close to busy enough during my stay for it to be full. Otherwise, the wifi was pricey ($14 per 24 hours), and the hotel noisy and the room was small. Standard New York experience, I suppose. read more
