My husband and I went to Fitz's on a September Friday evening to celebrate my birthday. We sat out on the patio which was nice. We both ordered the fish - deep fried haddock and broiled haddock. Service was slow and when the meal finally arrived, the fish was undercooked so I pushed that off to the side. I had to ask for butter for my baked potato (which was the only edible portion of the meal). My husband ordered the hash browns that arrived in a square slab with an unmelted slice of american cheese on top. It was an all you can eat fish fry and I noticed the table next to us ordered more fish and were still waiting for it 30 minutes later. One of the worst meals I've had in ages and it was a shame because Fitz's used to be a great place. read more

After a long day of skiing, me and my cohorts were famished. Fitz's nourished us back to health so that we could continue our long journey home. This is a very relaxed local bar type of place. The service was good and so was the fish fry. I tried the haddock and I wasn't disappointed. I was disappointed in the fried lobster bits, but I shoulda known that might happen. It was a high risk/high reward situation. Don't drop the $11 on making this a luxurious side item. Other than the lobster, I have no complaints and I'd like to try some of the fish they have to offer. The salad bar that is included with all entrees is a nice touch, as it was nice to eat some leafy G's before engorging myself with fried food. My family and I have been going to Fitz's for years. But the past year + they've gone down a lot. Food is hit and miss in regards to taste but definitely not as good as it once was. The other thing is they are WAY over priced for the quality of their food and the proportions esp for steaks & prime rib. Every time we go the lettuce on the salad bar is not fresh. In fact, nothing on the salad bar appears or taste real fresh. They serve a lot of tourist in the summer and every summer their prices go up. They need to pay closer attention to quality. read more

I went here with the grandparents for breakfast. The pancakes were AWESOME! I was pleasantly surprised and totally chowed down. You wouldn't have expected a decent pancake here especially when you consider that it is more bar than restaurant. Looks can be deceiving...especially in Wisconsin. We were there after Labor Day so it wasn't crowded at all, but during the summer season this place is pretty much constantly filled. As the name of the place suggests, it is on the lake...Lake Wisconsin. They have an eating area outside and several docks to allow customers to drive their boats instead of cars. They had a pretty basic selection revolving around the standards like hash browns, pig meat, and biscuits and gravy. I ordered hash browns, eggs, and bacon with 2 pancakes. During the summer they have a breakfast buffet during the weekends that I hear is very popular. I received a LOT of food. The pancakes were the size of the platter 9"-10" diameter and they were thick. They were the type of pancakes that soak up the syrup like a sponge. The eggs were just OK...I would have given them 2 stars, but they gave me 4 pieces of bacon. The people that ordered a sausage patty with their breakfast received two patties that were the size of 1/4 pound burgers. It was a lot of meat. I thought it was a little pricey, but they make up for it with the amount of food that they give you. I didn't have to eat for the rest of the day! I am definitely going back in the summer to check out their buffet, but I won't leave without some p'cakes. read more

I've been a fan of fitz's on the lake for a few years, and things are getting even better with the new owners! During the winter I love listening to the accordion musician at the bar with an excellent Korbel Old Fashioned, and their prime rib is the best in the area! Good fried fish. A canopy serving area outside with a view of the water when weather is nice. The brunch buffet was so-so to me but the others seemed to like it. I probably would not repeat that. I don't really like eating inside the restaurant; it is not bad, just a bit 'close'. But in the fresh air it is very nice. The serving staff were friendly and helpful. The prices were about average. The quality of the fish was pretty good. I will keep returning a few times each year. Worth the drive. read more

We used to love Fitz's. The service was always excellent and food was always very good. The beautiful location can't be beat. Things have definitely gone downhill since the new owners took over. They no longer include the salad bar with their nightly specials. The service is okay but not as good as before. The quality of the food is significantly worse. The last time we went was Mother's Day. Unfortunately, it wasn't until we were seated that we learned our only option was their buffet. We came to regret not leaving at that point. The buffet was horrendous. The stuff was either over cooked, tasteless, or both. Maybe the stuff that was in the empty pans that were never replenished was great. We'll never know. First let me say that I have been coming to Fitz's since it was called The Snack Bar so many years ago. It is hands down my favorite place to eat and I have so many fond memories of coming here with my grandparents as a child. I have brought so many friends and family members to dinner on the lake because I know I can count on a great experience. Ownership has changed many times over the years but the quality of the food and service has always been top notch. Until this year, that is. We gave it a shot three times this summer. The first time was the Fourth of July so I figured I could chalk up the poor service and less than satisfying food up to it being what is probably their busiest holiday. We went again a few days later and somehow, service was worse. We were seated pretty quickly, so I had high hopes. However, we then waited 45 minutes before anyone brought us a menu, even though the waitstaff had the time to stop by and let me know it would only be one more minute several times. We waited another 15 minutes after getting our menus to put in an order for drinks, which weren't brought to the table until after our food had come. Our food took an hour to be brought to us. The server comped the drinks, which was kind of her, but we watched her walking around aimlessly quite a bit while we waited for menus and drinks. I was sort of embarrassed because my husbands parents were with us and I had given them such a rave review of the place. We were able to make it to Okee one more time before the summer ends this past weekend with his parents, and we gave it another chance. We waited for 20 minutes without any acknowledgment whatsoever. We sat down, a waitress said hello, and that was the last we saw of any server. They all stayed out on the patio. Not a single employee entered the dining room once in 25 minutes. We left. We won't be coming back and that makes me very sad. read more

Went for lunch today. Nice place on Lake Wisconsin. I started with a Bloody Mary, which was nice good. Nice garnish! Waitress was very nice and efficient. Came on a Saturday for lunch with the wife and grandma. We did not have to wait and got a seat on the deck. Our service was really good, and the sandwiches we had were tasty too. I think they were a little understaffed, but our server did a great job nonetheless. I wouldn't hesitate to come back. You really can't beat the view and the location. read more

Sat out on the patio on a Monday afternoon. (senior day) Service was outstanding! Website said 1/2 priced drinks all day on Mondays-not the case only Happy Hour which is from 4-6. One had liver and onions which they stated was very good, another had the senior sirloin which about 1/3 was left because you could not cut it. no seasoning on the steak. But overall and probably because of the great service we really enjoyed ourselves. Next time we will order something else. read more

Came on a Sunday for lunch with my husband. It was full and the waitress was super helpful getting us a table by the water. Short wait for the people seated to pay and leave. Service was timely and pleasant. Atmosphere was unbeatable. Beautiful day and a nice breeze out on the deck. Reggae music gave it a nice feel. I felt like I was on vacation and not 12 miles from home. Food was great. I had the haddock sandwich and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich. He said it was the best he'd had. I have seen alot of very positive reviews of this place. So we stopped on our way home called ahead to put our name on the list so the wait was not as long. We had the haddock fried too dry and crust was to hard since it was all you could eat one of us tried it again much better. We also liked the coleslaw and the augratin potatoes. Not that busy but hard to get bartenders attention to get a cavktail they were too busy chatting with obvious "locals". Fianally get seated in dining room...so cold you had to wear your coat. Then took almost 15 minutes for wait staff to come over to the table. Then ordered fish and augratin potatoes....had 7 small (like size if a quarter) pieces of potato in them. This place once had one the best Fridays fish Fry's in Wisconsin. The owner and his daughter run the place and have been trying hard to sell the operation. My guess is they just don't care anymore. Grumpy old men have nothing on the demeanor of the daughter. She is semi-atractive but as rude and hateful as a super model. I take that back, it's not fair to super models. In one or two years, the once hand breaded, high quality fish was gone. First the quantity of the servring went down from 2to 3 average size pieces of fish to fish nuggets, then they gave up on had breading. Basically, it's from the Sysco truck to to the deep fryer, then to your table. I would have to say there is no reason to go, low quality, tasteless food. If you want to punish yourself go for McD's they may have a better product and the teenager behind the counter will treat you better and with more respect. read more

I would have given this a 5 Star but the service was horrible. Went there on a Friday night for the fish fry. Seated very quickly. Once the food came out is was a catastrophe. Ordered 3 fish fry's. The waitress dropped the food off at the table. Didn't ask if we needed anything else. Literally ran from the table. Did not return so I had to ask the next table for ketchup. He seemed a little perturbed. I guess people in Wisconsin do not like to share their ketchup. For better service your waitress should have asked if there was anything else we needed. We took our kids here for dinner on a Sunday night. I really wanted the broasted chicken!! There was a little wait, but we were willing to sit inside, so that drastically shortened the wait! Our little girls always enjoy the big fish tank while we wait! The drinks were good, brandy old fashioned - done correctly! I eat at Fitz's on the Lake often. Most recently, I was there on a Tuesday. As I usually do when I'm there on Tuesday I ordered the beer battered Haddock special. Which was very good. They also serve the beer battered Haddock during their Friday fish fry. On other nights they have Blue Gill, Perch, and grilled Salmon. My favorite soup is the roasted red pepper tomato soup. I'm occassionally in there for lunch on Saturday afternoons. My favorite lunch special is the barbequed pork sandwich, which is cubed pork rather than pulled pork.. I like both actually, but I like Fitz's version the best. I've only been in there once in recent years for the Friday fish fry. They get BUSY so take that into account in your planning. Fitz's has a nice little bar, but it's LITTLE so it's hard to find a place to sit unless you go during the week and maybe not then. read more
